I still can't figure out if Lain is really insane (schizophrenia, paranoia, god delusions, etc.) or not.

Then again, you'd have to not take everything the show presents at face value and assume a good chunk of the show is told straight from how Lain would perceive it.

that's where i stoped for the second time.
The first time i FELL into a dark hole, which led to an entire new layout with darker grey corridors. After about 3 minuts of exploration I found a ramp going up, with very bright light, I obviously followed the light and when i reached it it took me out of a computer, I found myself stuck in a room.
So i restarted and this time I appeared in that massive dark room, and alt f4 instantly. The music is so creepy.

It isn't scary but it's a good read.
To be fair I read it durring vacation in a 5 day period where i'd take mdma or shrooms or get drunk every night. Eventually something bad happened on shrooms and remembering house of leaves I had a bad trip about it, it pretty much brought back my childish fear of the dark or of very big and empty spaces. Can't remember everything about the bad trip but it was seriously horrible, I was convinced creatures could materialize themselves in the dark, or places you couldn't clearly see, and where specifically after ME. each time i blinked I imagined all of them appearing for a split second, so I tried to scotch my eyes to stop blinking and carried a torchlight with me for the duration of the bad trip. Friends tried to help but ultimately when things go wrong theres not much you can do.
Aaaand that's why i stoped doing drugs

ever notice the claw marks where truant picked up the manuscript?
how about the small tick in one pages corner, tying to where johnnies mother said his next letter sent would be ticked? Implying the whole thing has been cross-examined by his ma? How about the secret patterns in the lists of names? Or even the pun of the title? Or how it's printed pages are wider than the cover on some editions as well as printed on thin paper (bigger on the inside)?

It's a very fun book, and your scenario does indeed sound scary as hell, but to me it was always a funhouse.
>>
>>100899518
>Or how it's printed pages are wider than the cover on some editions as well as printed on thin paper (bigger on the inside)?

yeah i had the colored edition, and noticed that instantly before even reading it, which messed with my OCD like crazy. Then about halfway in the book I suddenly realized it was done on purpose. Pretty ingenious.

But yeah, outside of my specific situation, I wouldn't really categorize it as a specifically scary or horror book, I still love it though. Was thinking of giving Only Revolutions a try (the other book of the same author) but kinda scared to be disappointed after House of Leaves.

>look up

>try to walk around more
>teleported to my room

This game is amazing
>>
forcing myself through Wired_64bit, I'm expecting something to happen but nothing does. I got out of the computer again, stuck in the room again. Still haven't found the big dark room since last time, can you actually finish the game? Will I ever actually need to "shoot", in the controls there are bindings for 3 different types of fire, implying i'll get weapons or something later.
>>
>>100899790
no one likes that book, like at all, i havent read it but your almost certainly going to be dissapoint.

If you liked house of leaves try arno-schmidt for crazyfun experimental writing or david foster wallace for academic satire/puzzly literature.
>>
>>100899869
So that's what was in the big dark room? have you found something to do in your room? I actually managed to get out of the Wire manualy, in the first layout of corridors I eventually found a tiny hole and let myself fall down, then followed a grey corridors until I climbed out of the computer by jumping into a white wall with static.

The website is from where the game comes from, you can download it in the DL section as "scenario 1". Or download the Wired file from the mediafire compilation post.
On the website you will notice Scenario 2 as well, it's another game called Cyberia, I've barely played it but it's pretty scary too.
As for the compatibility issues, i've got no clue,
>>
>>100900038

What? where is it? is it on the first level? So far the two ways i've found of getting out is the big dark room and falling into another layout and climbing up some kind of ramp until you find a wall of light. both lead in the room.
Is the room considered the ending? or is there more to that?

Right so I got to that hole again, but instead of falling into it i jumped over and kept exploring the first level, ended up in front of the blackroom twice but kept turning arround to see if theres not something else. Eventually some moonspeak but not a scream, like just someone talking, female voice. Found blackroom again, got fed up and tried to explore it but accidently bumpbed int othe wall of hands and got out of the computer.

this coding for a login allows no possible answer. It will always give you back this same webpage. This " hystory.go(0)" part means you will get back to the current page you are in, setting it to -1 will go back one page and so on. the "users online" is randomly generated through a script, in the page there are flash scripts which aren't shown at all. They are:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/20004444/Fauux/Lain_fauux.swf

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/20004444/Fauux/Login.swf
and

>>

That explains why WebScarab wasn't intercepting anything. Well done.
>>

The first part is correct, but the last part in caps is from the song playing in the background. It's about walking the path of Jesus. Sorry for bad English
>>
>>100911447
big help, I knew something would be lost in an automatic translation. Is there anything else worth of mention?
>>
>>100911643
It's a joke, if that helps. The whole post he made that is. It's all bout finding jesus
>>
>>100911426

We could always try and find who running the site. Although the mods would frown on that
>>
>>100911820
It's pretty much found already for me, it's some norwegian bro who studies as a game dev and loves the fucking shit out of lain.
i'm just gonna hope he keeps making new content and cool stuff.
I'm still curious though... trying to cheat the system. That implies there is something to cheat for, y'know what I mean? I should probably just move on but I can't help but think theres something to it, even though the coding for a login allows no possible answer.
>>
>>100912067
I'm also Norwegian and love Lain, maybe I should find him and Fuck his but
>>
It was a good ride.
>>
Is it true that the NA release of the BD has banding issues?
>>
>>100911820
One time I emailed the guy and he responded. He hinted that there was is in fact something hidden on the site. I didn't get any clues though.
>>
>>100913886
can you post the actual reply.

Also the fuck are we supposed to be doing in cyberia?
>>
>>100914145
I looked through my email but I couldn't find it, so I must have deleted it. As for cyberia, I always thought there wasn't really anything to it. The guy had some other game on his site that was just music from lily chouchou and pretty backgrounds, so I thought it was something like that. Not sure though. There could be stuff hidden anywhere.
>>
>>100896565
There would be a Disk 2 if I could find an ISO of it. Sadly it doesn't exist anywhere. The game is mainly there for curiosity's sake since there's no actual gameplay, just a bunch of diary entries and cutscenes that will never be translated.

If anyone finds Disk 2 I can add it to the folder.
>>
You guys are starting to creep me out.
Escpecially since for the second time on alt tab lain was watching me.
Out of 707 files I've only got maybe 4 lain wallpapers.
>>
>>100915308
I walked everywhere. It seems completely desolate, and not even a 1:1 of Cyberia as far as I can tell. Shame since the dungeon crawler was actually cool

Well, everything get explained. There's no real plot holes or mysteries left by the time the series is over. Aside from the Alien stuff but that's one big red herring.

This guy offers a clear interpretation of what goes down in the series, but word of god is that every interpretation is equally as valid.

Robots Ghosts and Wired dreams is pretty good for anime history in general.
It also has a nice section on Patlabor 2 and hyperreality.
