Sorry there isn't a general or something I can post this in.
Basically, I have been watching this shit, and I really enjoyed it. Fucking awesome storyline, bomb-ass English voice actors (I am not kidding, they are actually better than the Japanese ones by a long shit), pretty art, great pacing (fuck the haters), 10/10 soundtrack, and pretty much everything else I want in an anime.
I am NOT going to ask for recommendation, because apparently people don't like that. All I am asking is what other animes in the .hack franchise are good. That's all.
Thank you for any and all responses. Even if they are shitposting.
For fucks sake. You know what I meant.
The anime ain't even that good dude.
Play the game.
Bu-but I liked it.
I am not a big fan of RPGs anyway. Especially the overtly Final Fantasy-influenced ones, like this looks a lot like.
I suggest Quantum.
>Wall of Text: The Anime
All they fucking do in .hack//Sign is talk and talk and then talk some more. It was terribly paced and how they told the story took forever to develop.
The games are better by far. Seriously go play the games. If you actually liked the anime then you will think the games are a masterpiece.
Legend of the Twilight is the best installment of .hack that is not a video game
Thanks. If nobody else responds, I will probably start downloading that.
Not necessary at all, but why exactly did you like it? Just curious.
1. I like talking. And again, the English dubs are fucking awesome, so there is no literal wall of text. Just a really slow storyline. But unlike most things I watch (in Evangelion and Gurren Lagan right now), this shit can be read into a bit. It actually has something to say most of the time. It doesn't just shoot the shit for 20 episodes.
2. I am not a big fan or RPGs, especially ones that look a LOT like Final Fantasy. How does it play in your opinion? And how exactly is it not Final Fantasy?
I have shitty bandwidth limits in Canada, so I can't just get both. And I don't have anything close to the time required for this shit.
Quantum had the same formula of slow paced dialogue sections interspersed with action scenes that made me enjoy .hack//Sign.
Google it, you retard.
Boom. Fucking perfect answer. If this was a test, you would be getting a 95 average without studying or showing up to class.
Downloading now. Thanks brah.
Legend of the Twilight has probably the most condensed story and has both a good anime original ending as well as a good manga ending (at least to my recollection the anime ending was good, been a long time since I saw it) and is a solid stand alone anime.
Also their are incestual undertones between the twin MCs so it automatically wins.
Wait, what do you mean by "condensed"
Do you mean more in a smaller volume or just less story overall?
Smaller volume, its 100% self contained unlike some other .hack// entries that pull from the games and other series. Its also in a very digestible size with only 3 volumes in the manga, I do not remember how long the anime was but I think its the same or shorter than Sign.
I guess I am getting both this and Quantum then. Thankfully I found a torrent with them both adding up to 1gb, so that's pretty cool.
Thanks to everyone for the advice.
The Legend of the Twilight anime was complete shit, and they changed the story and characters' personalities way too much. Shugo is a horrible protagonist and a disgrace to Kite.
I'd avoid it completely, and just read the manga to be honest.
Its been a long time since I saw it to be honest, only really remember the manga which is an old favorite of mine.
IMO (dot)Hack >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>SAO
Is it actually good though? People make references to it when talking about Sign. Not asking if it's better, just good.
>great pacing (fuck the haters)
Fuck you, it's obvious as fuck that they were on a shoestring budget and made the plot slow as fuck accordingly.
>I am NOT going to ask for recommendation
>All I am asking is what other animes in the .hack franchise are good.
What the fuck am I reading? Watch anime and find out for yourself. Everybody's opinions are different.
I agree with these anons,
Another thing I didn't like about it was the protagonist. Goddamn was Tsukasa annoying. I watched it subbed so maybe I would've like it more in english, but probably not. Honestly, it wasn't even the talking that turned me off so much. LotGH had a shit ton of talking, but it was enjoyable. The thing I really didn't like about Sign besides tsukasa being a bitch was the fact that nothing really seemed like it mattered. I was continuously reminded that it was a game, which really just made me feel like all of the characters were taking things a bit too seriously. Even tsukasa, who was trapped in the fucking thing, could die and do whatever without any apparent consequences.
The few parts where it seemed like shit was getting serious, like when Tsukasa started losing his mind, were actually interesting and gave me some hope, but overall it was just dissapointing. Especially that ending. There's so many unanswered questions I still had, and they end the show with everybody dancing for 10 fucking minutes. Fuck that ending.
But I'll agree with you on the OST OP, it was pretty good.
and that OVA about Mimiru was actually one of my favourite episodes. If they had more shit like that, I would've liked this show.
Did you even look at a single gameplay video?
People are just bitter about a new shitty anime being more popular than and old boring anime with similar premise. No, it's not that great. It's good, cool music, some interesting exchanges if you have the patience for it, but it's not great.
Sign, GU, and Quantum are. I dunno about LotTB, because it was clearly made with the intention of giving an adventure to kid fans of .Hack rather than appealing to a mature audience.
>Unlike most things I watch (Eva)
>This shit can be read into
You can read into .hack but NOT eva? You are literally retarded. Please take your entry tier thread to MAL.
The sign anime is pretty good - you guys do realize that the sign anime takes place before the main 4 games right? And then the final episode in the series, is the epilogue that takes place after the four games.
Oh man and those discs that the games came with that had these little 30 episode OVA's on them, I wish I kept those.
I mean if you watch the anime and have no plans to play the game, of fucking course you're not gonna like it.
I'd compare the gameplay to Tales more than FF, and there's no random encounters. All combat is real-time, but with a lot of menus which some might find tedious.
It's also mostly dungeon-crawling and towns with some open world exploring, as opposed to FF which is mostly open world with some dungeons and towns.
They're really unique games, and definitely worth trying.
They're easy enough to find on torrent trackers and emulate as well.
Are you fucking retarded?
>likes the .hack// anime
Oh, I guess that answers that. Fucking retard.
I am not even an /a/ veteran, and yet I know the best animes ever are made on the cash flow of a high school janitor. Same with music as well.
>Everybody's opinions are different
Most people can agree if one series is completely shit. If it has obvious flaws, anybody can pick them out. That is what I am watching out for.
>Goddamn was Tsukasa annoying
I can actually agree on that front. Not a very forward or interesting protag, but he played his part in the story, so I didn't hate him. The English voice actor was better than the Japanese one.
>continuously reminded that it was a game
This was lampshaded a couple of times. Really, the point isn't that the game changes, it's the personal relationships everybody has with each other. That's why there was all that talking. Nobody can actually die or whatever, but everybody likes everybody, and everybody wants everybody to be happy.
> and they end the show with everybody dancing for 10 fucking minutes
That was a bonus episode that I think you could access by playing a certain .hack game with the memory card data from another. The anime "actually" ends on episode 25.
Not really. Just from reading about gameplay mechanics and looking at screenshots.
Well, I have plenty of patience, obviously. Probably not going to watch it though.
I was asking about SAO, obviously I have seen Sign before.
But it's good.
Replies continued in another post, because char limi
>Well, I have plenty of patience, obviously. Probably not going to watch it though.
Oh wait, you're talking about SAO there. No, SAO is objectively shit, don't fucking watch it.
Eva has way too much shooting of the shit for me to like it. A retarded amount of fluff. .hack//sign, despite the reputation, gets to the point right away. It only has one episode in the main series that doesn't affect the storyline directly.
I (OP) liked the anime without the games. So yeah.
Alright, I MIGHT play it at some point. Not going to make any promises because I have historically found most RPGs to be boring, but I will keep an open mind if I eventually play it.
Wait why. What's wrong with it? I hear plenty of hate going on, but nobody has explained why it's shit.
>Wait why. What's wrong with it? I hear plenty of hate going on, but nobody has explained why it's shit.
Lurk more or use Google, you useless piece of shit.
>hasn't played the games
>thinks the anime are good
Is this by any chance your first non-Toonami anime or something? Genuine question.
Half of the appeal of the series is for fans of the games and the other half is for fans of MMORPGs (and you don't even like RPGs). I honestly can't see how anyone would appreciate the one-dimensional drama brought about by one-dimensional characters with poor animation quality. Please explain.
Name one episode.
Seems like you're just the type of person who can't handle any bit of story that's not thrown directly in your face.
I read the Wikipedia article and all I saw was some faggot from Kotaku complaining about feminism and damsels in distress. I have spent a good amount of time replying to 95% of posts in this thread, the least you can do is give me the cliff notes. Not asking for much here.
Back in my day we had Bionix. Good times.
Anyway, I don't care about this anime in the context of a video game. I care about it in the context of a kid who is not sure he even fucking exists. I think everything that goes on is pretty rad. And although the animation is bad, the environments are pretty sweet, along with the music, VAs, and other shit.
No EPISODES are filler, mind you, but a lot of what goes on is either slapstick, "fight" scenes, or tries to develop character incorrectly. Just my two cents
>I have spent a good amount of time replying to 95% of posts in this thread, the least you can do is give me the cliff notes. Not asking for much here.
Or you could fucking lurk instead of being a baby and asking everybody to spoonfeed you, when you already know that it's looked down upon.
The games will likely not interest you gameplay wise. I love the series to death but I can understand why people wouldn't like it nowadays. Gameplay is slow and littered with menus. Its grindy and you farm virus cores for hours.
But holy shit that worldbuilding, those characters, and that plot. I had fun just looking through the in-game forums and sending emails.
Don't sweat it if you dont like it. People here are just recommending it so hard because they love it so much.
Sign was shown on Toonami
>but a lot of what goes on is either slapstick, "fight" scenes, or tries to develop character incorrectly
This is hands down the most half-assed "I've never watched a single episode of Eva in my life" review I've had the disapleasure of reading.
I've decided to shitpost this thread until you leave /a/ now. Enjoy yourself.
>tries to develop character incorrectly
Why is someone who doesn't understand eva and who hasn't even finished it telling me this?
Less than 25% is actual fighting. It's supposed to be a mech show.
>Why is someone who ahsn't watched anime before .hack//Sign telling me this?
And because he's Reddit scum.
Except Redditors have actually seen Eva and would probably even know OP is a pleb who needs to get lynched.
.Hack// is legitamately even worse at characterization than SAO. That takes skill.
oh look a .hack thread. look's like /a/ isn't complete shit tonight.
Anyway op if you liked .hack//sign you must definetly check out .hack//infection,mutation,outbreak, and quarantine. I must admit it gets a little repetitive at times but the story is pretty good and will leave you wanting to wade through the many floors of dungeons just to advance.
>likes the dub
>i'm not asking for a recommendation
>proceeds to ask for a recommendation
You can fuck off OP.
>slapstick, "fight" scenes, or tries to develop character
None of this is remotely "filler". Please learn the meaning of words before you use them
>b-but I'm not interested in RPGs! I like low-budget one-dimensional anime more
I decided to emulate OPs reply for you and save him the trouble of taking his fingers out of his ass.
>No EPISODES are filler, mind you, but a lot of what goes on is either slapstick, "fight" scenes, or tries to develop character incorrectly.
>le epic anime maymay secret club
I am trying to be polite here man. I asked you for your opinions on things, you don't have to be a dick. I think I am being a pretty chill guy here, no meme-spouting, no calling other people faggots, nothing.
>doesn't understand eva and who hasn't even finished it
Both are incorrect by the way. I just think it wasn't done right.
And the mech shit is cool if you are into it. I am just, sort of, not. Sorry if that grinds your gears.
Guys pls. I just want to watch animes. I didn't mean to insult something you like. I just didn't like it that much myself. They didn't "objectively" poorly develop characters, and they didn't "objectively" fluff up the storyline, those are just things that I think.
Damn, some conflicting opinions. I liked it, so.... yeah.
As I said before, I might try the games at some point. I might not. Not a big fan of RPGs, so it isn't all that probable.
ok. I am not going to do that, but at least you posted. What's an anime discussion board that doesn't talk about anime! oh wait
It's not filler, I get it. It just feels like it to me, since I don't find enjoyment in these types of things.
You get some props for that shit, it's actually pretty funny. You are BY FAR the worst shitposter I have ever seen, and I am not sure if that's a compliment.
>What's an anime discussion board that doesn't talk about shitty anime
A good anime discussion board.
>not into mechs
>not into RPGs
>not into good anime
You might as well been born with a silver dick in your mouth.
This thread is a disaster
>Watching mecha shows when you're not into mecha
You're retarded. Leave.
>I think I am being a pretty chill guy here, no meme-spouting, no calling other people faggots, nothing.
And yet you still manage to shit up this board with your thread.
>implying he ACTUALLY watched Eva
Good joke anon.
It's embarrassing he out himself so many times. Absolute shit.
>You are BY FAR the worst shitposter I have ever seen
If that's the worst, then it's obvious you need to lurk more before posting again.
>They didn't "objectively" poorly develop characters, and they didn't "objectively" fluff up the storyline, those are just things that I think.
I'm more surpirsed by the fact people areamazed someone that practically announces he hasn't lurked is retarded.
You deserve this and the shithole /a/ has become.
I hate Friday nights.
Report, sage, and move on people.
I am completely serious. Replay the same scenes twice with the different language versions. The English voice actors have way more skill. Except for Crim. Fuck that VA.
I already did a bit, but basically I found that most of the first half did the anime equivalent of a western sitcom. It progressed a plot.... vaguely, but just sort of dicked around most of the time. Hey, if you are into that, by all means, but I don't find it very compelling.
I am not that sure man. I have had anime discussions with my friends, and they don't involve people throwing pictures of cute girls at each other. Although that would look hilarious.
What if I was and I never logged out? Think about that shit. Funny, The Matrix actually influenced the field of philosophy with thoughts as simple as that.
I'm sorry man. I tried.
Everybody said it's amazing, and that I am a faggot for not watching (including the type of people in this thread), so I did against my will. Gave it a fair shot, trust me.
I tried man. I just..... I had a dream. Of discussing anime on 4chan. I searched high and low, yet never found quality discussion. The very last place I decided to check was the /a/ board, and lo and behold, no discussion here either.
>le epic maymay secret club
I think there is one faction that posts these over and over. Maybe it's a bot. All I know is there is a Facebook page and weekly metups.
This is the kind of stupid fucks that consider telling people to lurk bad.
Anyone that doesn't lurk is retarded, since you have to actually think for a second instead of just regurgitating your shit into a board.
>The very last place I decided to check was the /a/ board, and lo and behold, no discussion here either.
Then just fuck off to one of the other thousands of anime websites out there where there's actually constructive discussion. Why the hell do you keep posting your shit here when it's clear that you're not wanted?
>le epic maymay
Back to /v/.
>I found that most of the first half did the anime equivalent of a western sitcom.
Haha oh wow. I want to see a multiple page review of how this trainwreck of a statement popped into your mind.
>le epic maymay secret club
It's stupid shit like this that proves the other posters right for telling you to leave.
How many times will you say this?
>the very last place for anime discussion I decided to check for on 4chan was the anime board
wow you might as well have just taken a picture of yourself sitting in a mental health clinic.
Stop replying to him.
If his only conversational mechanism to make himself seem like he isn't getting frustrated and flushed.
I am not saying it's bad. The issue is that people just copy-paste it instead of, you know, contributing to the thread.
1. Because you keep responding. Not a troll, but the same rules for dealing with trolls applies to "unwanted discussion", if discussion about anime is unwanted around here.
2. I don't have the time or patience. /a/ is one click away, and as you can see from the OP, I only had one small question.
/k/, /g/, /vr/, and /pol/ more like.
Ok. I guess people saw this thread bumped too many times and decided to collectively shitpost, because this thread suddenly got shit halfway through.
But that's the issue I have with it. Telling somebody to lurk more is one thing, but refusing to discuss things because somebody does not have the same background of information as you do is stupid.
What if there isn't another thread about this anime for the next three years? Lurking more will do nothing as I will still never get my answer.
I just type like that.
Well, yeah, I am getting frustrated. I can leave at any time, seeing as how the first half of the thread gave my all the information I need, but it baffles me how the thread became so terrible so fast. It can't be me, since I have been here the entire time. Through elimination, it must be you (and everybody else being a faggot)
It's a joke dude.
Are you the guy who said he is going to shitpost for the rest of the thread?
If you are, you are still doing a terrible job because that shit is actually really funny.
Okay, so instead of doing any work yourself, you decide it's better to shit up /a/ because you're a lazy fuck?
.hack game > log horizon > .hack > SAO
How am I shitting up /a/?
Look at the first 50 replies to this thread. Seems like some pretty cash anime discussion going on here. Not sure what kind of thread you would rather.
The thread immediately became shit once the first person said "lurk more". That became the war cry to shitpost. You have nobody to blame but yourself since, as I mentioned, I have been in the thread the entire time, and the "lurk moar" faggots came in RIGHT when it became shit. So who is in the wrong here?
Seriously? Nobody here has said .hack//Roots?
Roots is the closest to .hack//SIGN in every capacity that you've stated you liked about SIGN.
Additionally, while SIGN prepares you to play the first .hack PS2 series starring Kite, Roots prepares you to play the second .hack PS2 series starring Haseo.
It became shit because people were giving you a chance despite you being obviously new, but you kept on being fucking retarded, so everyone got fed up, me included. I honestly regret discussing shit with you.
You have good taste. Its pretty rare. Most people have ADD and would prefer something like SAO.
There isn't much else thats really the same. Most focus on DRAMA like SAO or .hack//roots, and Log Horizon is completely plot-oriented as opposed to character driven like Sign.
Sign is very high quality. You need patience and you need to be able to enjoy character development with little actiony plot. Its not something a lot of anime viewers can appreciate.
>Back in my day we had Bionix. Good times.
Fuck you YTV, you killed the block.
Read the thread, he's fucking retarded.
You're shitting /a/ by being a lazy retard posting questions which could've been answered by Google. Showjng everyone how much of a newfag you are, and even when spoonfed you continue to ask for more "Hurr but whyyy oh but I don't like this". What happens after this thread the next time you have another simple question after being spoonfed like this? You'll come back asking to be spoonfed again.
The problem is not so much the topic and how you've been helped. The problem is you. /a/ doesn't want to encourage lazy idiots like you who casually peruse the board.
>You have to read into
You have to read into Justine bieber's lyrics to make his songs good.
Wow, it took an hour, but the discussion actually came back.
I really hope you are right, since I am murdering these shitty Canadian bandwidth limits here. Fucking Quantum, Twilight Bracelet, GU, and NOW Roots? Shit. Not complaining though, since I should have a good time if these opinions are to be trusted.
ERRR. Wrong. It can't "become shit" because of me since I have been here the entire time. Try again, your logic is faulty.
Thanks. People say SAO is shit, so I might not bother with that. Roots sounds pretty baller, so I am DL that. Log Horizon seems like a bit much to add to my plate, since I have all this .hack shit along with other essentials.
I am pretty sure I don't even get YTV anymore. Feels bad man.
That's an opinion. And it has nothing to do with anime.
A bit rude, but this is actually quite a valid argument. I have only been to /a/ once in the past 2 years, so it's an incorrect argument, but I still get your point of view. Besides, I wasn't asking to be spoonfed really, more just getting peoples experiences about the different sub-plots of a rather large and obscure (read: un-googleable) series.
Sadly i wanted a hack thread too, but alas, OP has brain damage
.....man, what did I do.
I just wanted to talk about animes, why won't people let meeee....
Fuck. At least I have a full-bred weaboo faggot at my school that I practise fighting games with, maybe he can show me the way.
Just stop and do everyone a favor by never showing your face here ever again.
God dammit dude. Sign is not obscure by any means. All of the random ass offshots are. Or, at least you can't find googelable reviews, and they don't show up on IMDB for some reason.
This is why you always asume that if OP hasn't lurked he's retarded.
Who here has read AI buster? It was one of the highlights for the whole franchise for me.
I can't have any kind of serious discussion with that stupid fuck around, and neither should you.
It's one of the most popular multimedia franchises in the last decade. It's literally the only reason why you initially had favourable replies because people enjoyed it so much. You could easily find dozens of reviews on youtube or just read up on one of the in depth wikis available.
The fact that you know none of this nor are able to find this kind of information only goes to further show how much you don't belong here. Again please do everyone here a favour ( that includes yourself ) and gp somewhere else. Never come back. Why you are so intent on havong this discussion here of all places when it would be much more productive elsewhere I know not why.
Just go and stay go.
>"oh shit a .hack thread. Perfect cozy material before I go to sleep."
>this entire thread
This is worse than a /v/ .hack thread.
Yeah I feel the same I was actually hoping to discuss it a little bit because .hack threads are few and far between on /a/ and usually filled with shitposting.
>I refuse to discuss anime with somebody who wants to discuss nothing but anime
ok. have fun with that.
One of the most popular media franchises of the last decade is, like, Call of Duty or some shit. .hack GU is pretty fucking obscure for English googlers. Not saying that I belong here. Just saying you should stop being such an ignorant fuck.
I am actually considering having future threads like this on /v/. It might get 404'd in six minutes, but it will actually get amazing replies for that long. At least it had a pretty chill start.
I liked it when I watched it years ago for the first time, but ever since I recently rewatched it, I find that the only good thing about it is the soundtrack.
That fucking OP.
There's a world out there that exists outside of North America. Maybe you should try pulling your head out of your ass and do a little reading before calling others ignorant.
I'm baffeled that you would even try to call someone else ignorant when it's clear they have a better understanding of the subject matter than you do.
And please do go ahead and place your shit on /v/ the next time you think of posting. It's a perfect place for brain dead idiots like you. I hope the door hits you on the way out.
