Can we talk about how this movie was such shit?
Aside from the animation, of course.
Didn't come out before the manga was finished?
Also what's so shitty about it?
Cool thread bro
Otomo didn't know what the fuck he was doing.
How was it shit.
The story was just too all over the place. It sounds good on paper, but it was just poorly executed in my opinion. Nothing was really explained in the beginning and by the time things are explained I felt so detached from the whole thing and the characters that I just stopped caring about the plot.
Basically, poor and scatterbrained storytelling. I understand the central theme being about the dangers of power taking over your head, but besides that, there wasn't much to it, for me.
Sounds more like you're just threatened by anything that doesn't stick to conventional storytelling schematics, and you entirely missed the point the movie was making, which is pretty hard to do considering how much they reiterate it. It's about hubris and the myopic, self-serving lens that human beings acquire when they accrue too much power, and the way such petty grasping ultimately destroys humanity. It's about humans trying to wield power they are not meant to have.
How about we talk about how retarded you are for not being able to recognize a good film instead?
Did you not read my post? I said that I understand the message the movie was trying to convey. I just thought the whole plot was messy and sort of distracted from the whole theme of the movie.
Basically, it gave a false impression of what the movie was gonna be about in the beginning, then it adds a bunch of elements into the movie without explaining much of it until later (the background of the kids, why the government is doing what they're doing, what the government is planning, wtf Kei and Ryu are trying to do, what relationship Ryu has with the kids, etc.). That is where I see it fail. All of this distracts from the main theme of the movie.
To have the plot develop and have certain things found out is one thing, but to have the characters talk about and reference a lot of things constantly that you know nothing about, and probably won't ever find out about, kind of detaches me from the experience.
Tell me more about your sheep-like qualities.
Basically this. I came to the same consensus. After the movie I could tell exactly what the point was, but the story-boarding was just all over the fucking place.
There's something to be said about a Tarantino style "disjointed" story-board, but Akira was really just... well, in my opinion, alot of progression of the plot with no real reason to progress. I almost feel like you needed an outside source material to completely understand the story and the motives of the characters.
Other than that, great animation; just wish the plot progression was more coherent.
Tell me more on how you dont understand how a story works.
Even if those points applied I can't see how the movie was shit. I know that's /a/speak for not 10/10, but really, the movie was atleast good
Basically. Hit the nail right on the head.
I do. I just don't think whoever made Akira, does.
Naw, I was exaggerating. It was shit, but it wasn't 10/10 SUPER GLORIOUS AMAZING either.
*It wasn't shit...
Loved the movie, loved the themes, loved that sweet-ass ride.
Best sequence motherfuckas
Magical Girl Akira when?
holy shit, is it just me or is the song singing KANEDA TETSUO?

It's not just you

YOUR SACRIFICE COMPLETES MY SANCTUARY OF 1000 TESTICLES
Yes the movie is vague and yet you can still understand the theme perfectly, I wont say despite it being vague because the vagueness of it is almost intentional or at least helps to communicate the total impotence of man and its constructs, the entire movie is about that and the city's apocalypse (or the end of social constructs and a new beginning)
You'd have a fucking aneurism watching Jodorowsky's stuff
It is a shit movie, I've heard the manga is infinitely better.
>Can we talk about how this movie was such shit?
>Nah, it wasn't shit.
Get your shit together for fuck's sake.
Also learn where to draw the middle line, it's not either "shit", "not shit" or "10/10"
Can we talk about how you're an imbecile from /v/ who should stay in his comfortable little shit-hole instead of wandering elsewhere?
The movie is almost completely different from the manga but keeps the themes. You'll appreciate the Akira universe more if you read the manga.
I'm basically saying it was ok.
Also, we're on /a/. We're notorious exaggerators.
Go kill yourself.
They really should have made the thing after the manga finished. It might not be fluidly animated or have a soundtrack, but it blows the anime out of the water. Shame we'll never see an adaptation do it justice.
Oh, excuse me. I meant to say "us".
