>most popular girl has got best grades

Only in Japan
>>
They value intelligence.
>>

>Grades
>intelligence
I'm not some kind of underachiever faggot, but japanese people mostly just like passive and pensive girls cause they are the type to get shit done in the household
>>
>>100794720
If you are Japanese who don't like to read you are seen as retarded by society.
>>
>>100794797
There is a reasonably good correlation between grades and IQ.
>>
>Japanese most popular girl = best grades
>American most popular girl = School jizz jar
>>
>>100794517
Really? My old high school was like this too.

and IQ only measures one form of intelligence, it has been proved as an obsolete way to measure intelligence overall. i'll also point out that the correlation between grades and IQ is not that good, a bunch of people with very high IQ were actually terrible at school in general, had the worst grades etc. Although it's probably for different reasons like they just didn't give two shits or turned out to only be good in one particular discipline, you get the point.
>>
It's because every author is a geekboy and popular people always have best grades to fulfill his fantasy of being popular in a high school
>>
>tfw you realize popularity and who you know ultimately triumphs intelligence and hard work in the real world
>>
>>100794517
the most popular kids in my school were the most popular because they had the highest grades. But they were also really charimastic and great people.

>>

>it has been proved as an obsolete way to measure intelligence overall
Now you're just going overboard with shitty definitions of intelligence.
IQ mesures memorization and logic, that's not everything, it's just really fucking important.
>>
Bad grades means you'll live in the street.
>>
>>100795274
You should add that you are from Japan.

Pic hardly unrelated, just cute.

>>
>>100794930
>people who "don't like reading"

I'll never fucking get that. Ever. I'v had a friend like that, never read books, or even comics for that matter, and when asked why he'd just say "I don't know, I just don't like reading". How can you fucking dislike reading exactly? I'd get that you only had shitty experiences with litterature for example, hence the fact that you have a premade idea on books - and still, you should try to actually find books you enjoy then - but DISLIKING reading in itself sounds so dumb.

It would be like refusing to watch movies or shows in general because you dislike watching videos or something.
>>
Smart/dynamic people are beautiful.
Beautiful people are popular.

>>
>>100795601
keep telling yourself that
>>
I don't know how it is around your high schools, but in the schools I've been to in Canada, you had to be pulling A's to be really popular.

I mean, the smartest kid with the best grades was always some short thick-glassed asian and they were never popular, but the most popular kids always did a sport, held a student government position, and got straight A's.
>>

>>
>>100795546
Yeah it most definitly is, but it's not all there is to intelligence either. IQ is mostly logical-mathematical intelligence, and there is so much than this.
What i'm getting at is that even though it's important, if you are only capable of that form of intelligence you'll just be a retard unable to function properly at all, basically a retard. Sure a very logical retard, but still a retard.
You really think saying that is going overboard? You'd have to be fucking stupid to still think intelligence is just about logic. There is so much more to it.
>>
>>100795830
Traps from thailand are the best looking.
>>
>>100795717
It depends on what kind of high school you go to obviously.

If you go to some ghetto-ass school, of course the kids that don't do well are the most popular.

However, if you go to some preppy, upper-middle class school, the kids with good grades are popular.
>>
Girls are inferior creature with the only purpose to procreate.

Good grade only means they sleep with teachers.
>>
>>100796023
>IQ mesures memorization and logic
If IQ tests favored memorization then they would automatically favor kids coming from rich, educated households. Oh, wait.
>>

You just need to google it. Intelligence is the best predictor of academic performance that there is.

>>100795410
Howard Gardner's multiple intelligences theory was disproved. It is not taken seriously by those in the field of intelligence.
Also, you apparently don't know what "g" is. Educate yourself, instead of just repeating some feel good history on the media.
Critical thinking is important.

Good grades = obedience and regurgitating the rote learning emphasized in most schools (in this case, the Japanese especially stress rote learning and teaching to the test, with no real-world application or critical problem-solving skills).
>>
>>100798231
Did you look at the data? I guess not. Because if you did, you wouldn't post this.

And the Japanese are doing pretty fine.

What data?

You mean the fact that the whole Japanese education system is focused on taking tests to get into the next level and rote memorization? The fact that they spend months or years cramming for those monolithic entrance exams (something that is well documented to be a terrible means of learning anything)?

Do you ever wonder why, despite teaching English for many years in school, they can't speak it worth a damn (pic related)?
>>
>>100799112
is not like learning english is that important
>>
In the end, they are smarter than average murrican.
>>

>>
>>100799348
There's no excuse with JET programs and plenty of weeaboo murricans.
>>
>>100799348

My point exactly, they don't actually learn anything so those who go on to become teachers just perpetuate the cycle of futile and flawed education.
>>
>>100794517

From what I've heard from firsthand experiences in the JET program, the schools are very strict about keeping the American teachers to the pre-established curriculum. Those who do not adhere to the textbooks and lesson plans can quickly lose their job and lose their visa.
>>
>>100799365
>>100799416
that's because they're 3D piggu
>>
>>100799462
The problem with JET is that it kicks out educators after six years. No matter how good they are at teaching English, after six years the teachers are "too naturalized" and must leave.
>>
>>100799592
>Japan telling native English speakers how to teach English
Figures.

And yes- people in Japan can't speak English worth shit. I think that was what surprised me the most when I went there.
>>
>>100799674
The sounds Japanese requires are totally different from English. Take coreans for example; their language, while structured differently, uses nearly the same sounds
>>
>>100799784
Is that really so different from someone who only speaks English learning to pronounce Finnish or German correctly? Part of learning to speak a language is learning to make the sounds it uses.

Of course, Japan isn't so hot on the written side of English either, so pronunciation is a symptom rather than a cause.
>>
>mandatory language learning classes

These will always be ineffectual for the majority of learners.

You can't teach someone a foreign language unless they really want to learn it and are willing to pour tons of time and energy into it, barring extreme circumstances like outright banning their preferred language.
>>
I always wondered about English lessons in japan. In every anime/movie or whatever when they show them during English class, it is always like pre-fabricated sentences they need to repeat, or just plain vocabulary. Do they learn grammar at all or they just copy and paste everything?

I also realized how they know a lot of words and their meanings in English, but they don't have any idea how to use them correctly in any way. Just check any jap at /int/ or even in some anime and visual novels, they know some weird English words but they can't create a simple sentence.
>>
>>100799935
Funny to bring finnish into this.
Because finnish is really hard to learn do to its nature and origin.
Germanic languages are very close to each other and this makes it easier to learn another germanic language.
Finnish being Uralic makes it really foreign to other european languages.
>>
>>100800237

>Just check any jap at /int/

Most of the Japanese in the Japanese threads have gotten pretty decent.

There are a fair number of them that seem to be using the board to improve their English, too.
>>
>>100800237

>I also realized how they know a lot of words and their meanings in English

That's partly because they had to adopt Western words into their language. For example: bread is "pan."

The Japanese never had bread until the Portugese came over, bringing both the concept and the word.

Other examples are: "Takushi/Taxi," "Rajio/Radio," "Terubi/TV."

It's really weird. In America a lot of the smartest males are the most popular, but not one of the smartest females were. This is just based on my own experience in highschool mind you, but it does show an interesting trend.

Likewise in a lot of anime it seems like the smartest male is never the MC, and is usually looked down upon him by him.
>>
>>100800843
Most languages can into Japanese. The reverse isn't so true.

Same reason why the MC is a Gary Stu that the girls like unconditionally for no reason in particular, anon.

Wishful thinking.
>>
>>100800867
In my school the dumbest kids were popular with the average kids, and the smartest kids were popular with the smart kids
As a part of the latter, it was hilarious when a bunch of smart ass popular girls tried took Honors Algebra 2 in an attempt to look "NURDY" and got around a 30 for an average for the year.
>>
>>100801064
They obviously bullied some geeks into doing their homework etc.
>>
>>100800867
In general the smartest people in my class weren't incredibly popular, though I think this was just because they were bad at talking with people and talked amongst themselves instead
>>
>>100795830

Koreans are the best looking period, you are absolutely wrong.
>>
>>100800867
Popularity is dependent upon what the popular person provides to their followers. Shared wealth, social status, and protection are common benefits of being a social groupie. Wealth and social status tend to influence academic performance, either directly or by providing extracurricular benefits. Thus, a person can be popular and have top grades, but not be popular because they have top grades.

See >>100800948 for how things go down without those non-academic influences. More time studying means less time socializing, means less social connections, means less popularity.

>>100801065
Less true than you'd think. It may be the case in private schools - though this is probably due to the aforementioned wealth/status link - but public schools in San Jose, Mountain View, Saratoga, etc, form "jock and nerd" cliques readily. Jocks aren't as superstar as in more rural areas, but they're idols within the student body.
>>
>>100801064
>>100801191
At my school the football team was fine, and some of my friends were benched on it, as I said earlier, all the assholes were these rich kids who could get away with anything, fuck any girl they wanted, and brag about it gratuitously in front of teachers who just awkwardly look at their shows when they'd write anyone else up.

Sports and Physical fitness are not bad things, they just have a bad culture.
>>
>>100801064
In my school the top 2 took easy classes and ended up doing drugs in a community college while my best friend, 3rd place, took 2 science and math classes a year and got accepted to Princeton.
In the current education system, at least in America, rankings can be inaccurate.
>>
>>100800867

Being a smart is bonus, but it's not the single dominant factor.

Another factor to consider is how balanced you are. Just getting excellent grades in a classroom environment doesn't make you hotshit in my opinion.

The ability to regurgitate data and lectures is borderline useless without problem-solving skills, interpersonal skills, and the self-discipline to work hard without external pressure.

A lot of the self-proclaimed smartest people don't possess these skill sets, and they wonder why people don't think they are all that.
>>
>>100801181
Yeah I say it's more like this. There are too many various groups in american highschool to compare them. A lot of the time smart students are sectioned off from average ones in honors and AP classes so they often form separate groups. The other groups were kids who drink and do lots of drugs and party, and of course those who play sports and shit, mine also had the lesser groups of "emos" and rednecks who one day every year rode their tractors to school.

The "most popular" girl in my school was an athlete, an honors and AP student, and she was pretty and a fairly nice girl. Whereas the "most popular" guy was just really good at sports and that's pretty much it. He was a pretty huge faggot a lot of times and had a lot of people hating on him because he also dated the "most popular" girl.

Then of course there's the last group of people people who remain amicable to everybody but mostly don't try to join any group and maintain status as loners that nobody has any idea what they do or who they hangout with.aka me and probably others on 4chan
