ITT experimental/unique/beautiful anime. Suggestions / recommendations.
Are there torrents/rapidshit of Genius Party out already?
Try to track down all the Osamu Tezuka shorts he did in the 60's, that shit is solid gold.
I know a couple of those were subbed; they were listed on animesuki...but that was ages ago. Were any more ever worked on?
I dunno. I saw it in a theater with Q&A by Watanabe, lol.
Most of them are instrumental, kinda like Fantasia on crack so you don't have to worry about subs, just finding them is hard enough.
Tekkon Kinkreet. The visuals are similar to Mind Game.
Revolutionary Girl Utena and the movie Adolescence of Utena (watch the series first. It'll make slightly more sense that way... though not much)
Memories: Magnetic Rose
WHAT! ahhghghgh that better not of been in Chicago, or the universe is going to be destroyed.
You've probably seen all of those.
Superflat Monogram, best 5 minute Louis Vuitton commercial
Noiseman Sound Insect is great as well
The Diary of Tortov Roddle
If we're talking about shorts: Kigeki
Anything by Studio 4°C, most of which has already been listen but take a good look at their shorts, fantastic.
A must watch for any anime fan.
Mononoke expiremented with that paper stylnig thing and that turned out great.
I want to rape you.
If you're gonna mention Mononoke then I've gotta bring up SZS and Gankutsuo.
>kinda like Fantasia
That reminds me.
>better not of been
for fuck's sake
Kaiba's coming out soon. Keep an eye open for that.
I rs'd a couple a whle ago and there's a torrent for a couple more I'll track down.
--Tales of a Street Corner
Looks like the guy who did One Piece movie 6.
>gotta bring up SZS
Now you`re just trying to make me sage this thread. Knock it off.
I already have all the subbed ones.
I don't even know how many of the others there are.
This, THIS RIGHT FUCKING HERE. This anime is something else. It's an acid trip every time you watch.
nope, it's masaaki yuasa (Mind Game, Kemonozume)
Mamoru Hosoda made One Piece Movie 6, Superflat Monogram and Tokikake
Forgot to add this caveat--resolution sucks.
--Broken Down Film
Trava: Fist Planet
You also might want to check out Makoto Shinkai's Other Worlds. It's what he did before he got famous. Same style, lots of train, only a 1:30 runnnig time.
>>ITT experimental/unique/beautiful anime
1. Experimental - SZS' non sequiturs, strange and almost nonexistent storytelling and parodies ranging from weird in-jokes to walls of text is nothing if not experimental
2. Unique - name another show that does what SZS does
3. Beautiful - pic related
I don't even like the show that much but it's still worth mentioning.
OP here, oddly enough I've seen most of the anime in this thread. I would only add anything by Miyazaki and Yoshitoshi Abe, their work isn't necessarily experimental, but really beautiful.
Fuck off. If you don`t actually know anything about art, then don`t participate in threads about it. There`s a reason why SZS did not get any recognition for its art.
Thanks for awesome Wallpaper!
Shinkai should stick to the short films. He's better with 1 - 20 min films than full movies. I also recommend She and Her Cat - another quick Shinkai film.
Full-length movie, plz.
Give me a fucking break. >>10077408 was talking about that paper cutout look so I brought up SZS. No, the art doesn't stop me in my tracks but the visual style is unique.
THIS THIS THIS.
Global Astroliner. Definitely among the coolest 7mins of animation I've seen.
You can find it on Youtube though the quality doesn't do it much justice.
That and Kung Fu Love. It was part of the same 4c anthology.
Ah yes, I remember this.
4C needs to start making more series'.
Katushio Otomo did a short music video for the Japanese techno artist Ken Ishii in the 90's. Would've made a beautiful full length film.
JR subs do all this stuff. Here's 7 gigs of it. All studio4c shorts and stuff like that.
Kino no Tabi
Youtube? What's that bullshit?
**sorry, Koji Morimoto did the Ken Ishii video.
You! YOU! I FUCKING LOVE YOU!!!!
Comedy is a good Studio 4C short.
Directed by the guy that did Samurai Champloo character design.
win thread is win
If we're going mainstream, what about ef ~atom~? Best showcase of SHAFT style, for which I am gay.
Hijikata Toshizo - Shiro no Kiseki OVA
Mezame no Hakobune - Mamoru Oshii
Noiseman Sound Insect
The Diary of Tortov Roddle
Trava - Fist Planet
Thanks for that. I'd never heard of it before and that was fucking awesome. If only they'd turn that into a full series I'd watch it.
Hal&Bons isn't "experimental", it's stupid.
But in a good way. animated improv lol
Ghost Slide maybe.
Serial Experiments Lain
Niea under 7
FLAG's pretty unique, the pulled a Cloverfeild type dealy where nearly everything is shot through some sort of camera lense, but FLAG doesn't suck like Cloverfeild did. It's a realistic mech series if that turns anyone off.
Fucking seconded,also did i see G.A.R.?
Studio 4C is fucking awesome. They actually do something different rather than just being "anime".
They did a series called Mahou Shoujo Tai, but the writing doesn't do justice to the awesome art direction.
For God`s sake. Get your shaft bullshit out of an art thread.
I did not know this
neo tokyo, mindgame, cat soup, glassy ocean
Totally underrated in my opinion. My anime club despised it!
Also seconding or thirding Noiseman Sound Insect.
>Mahou Shoujo Tai Arusu
Or just Tweeny Witches.
Otherwise known as one of the worst english titles out there.
The Cockpit takes a look at WWII, which is rare in Jap society and it does a damn good job of it too.
Media Blasters licensed it, too.
I'm not sure if they're going to call it "Tweeny Witches" or not.
It's actually pretty awful.
Yeah, everything *except* for the 4°C animation and voice acting is bad. Story, storyboarding, plotholes, morality -- it's bad.
It ain't no fun when she eats your funds
