I just got into anime around a week ago, and so far I have completed Oreimo, Angel Beats, first season of Date a Live, almost finished with Black Rock Shooter. I also watched a season of YuruYuri and some of Strawberry Marshmallow.

Try Boku no Pico, you'll love it.
>>
Have you watched Boku no Pico yet?

EDIT: Didn't see it was mentioned.
>>
I'll 3rd Boku no Pico. The writing is outstanding.
>>
You should try The Legend of the Blue Wolves, it's amazing.

Welcome to anime, newfriend!
Besides the obvious ones you'll see listed a million times like Evangelion, Cowboy Bebop, and Boku no Pico, you should try Master of Martial Hearts. It seems right up your alley.
Actually watch MoMH right after Boku. Those two are shorter, so do them before you move on to the others I listed.
