Why do you guys hate AoT so much?
I don't. the fanbase is nightmarish however.
Nah, I thought the first episode was really good, but it's kind of plateued since then.
Still a fine show, just the fans are pretty annoying
It's not terrible but I think the basic concept was wasted by having the MC be a Titan shifter and it being shounen action instead of apocalyptic horror
The main problem is a lot of casuals think it's the second coming of Christ
It's alright but not great. Shit fanbase. The SAO of 2013, but more tolerable. That's why
this. Titan shifting ruined the horror feal it had in the early episodes.
It would have been multiple times better if Eren didn't become a Titan.
Due to that, Mikasa is always crying about Eren instead of being the most interesting character in the series, Eren is the typical whiny MC that has the secret power, and the cool aspects such as the 3d gear and cool soldiers don't do shit without Eren turning into a Titan.
It's my opinion that the series headed in a bad direction from the onset.
Thought she was missing an arm for a second.
Because your mom likes it!
Because the main character turned into a titan.
It's for kids.
It's very similar to SAO, in the fact that there are other interesting characters involved, but the plot degenerates into people sucking the MC dick (or hating him) due to his super special power, so we never get to see the other characters get developed, the sense of horror at people dying doesn't really matter, and it's all just side stories until we get to see super MC break another tier of power, perpetually leaving his comrades behind while they worry about him, but they can't do jack shit.
It would've been better if Eren lost his arm and leg, got some typical anime style replacements, and became an elite soldier without becoming some stupid ass Titan himself. Mikasa's character devolved into "EREN! EREN!" even though she's pretty much the badass of the series.
The fanbase is huge, there are bound to be casuals and otherwise annoying people here and there, that doesn't mean the entire fanbase is like that.
MC and cast train to fight
Titans attack again
MC gets eaten
Turns out MC can turn into a titan
Humans doubtful of Titan-MC but realize they can use him
Humans try to move a rock using MC
Humans try to move a rock some more using MC
Humans reflect while trying to move a rock using MC
MC finally moves the rock
Turns out they still don't trust MC
Girl Titan attacks and kills a bunch of people
Humans chase the girl titan
Humans chase the girl titan some more
Humans chase the grill titan while having flashbacks
Girl titan kills a bunch of people
Remaining people and MC fight girl titan, hurt it and get away
Humans return to city
Humans figure who mysterious girl titan, and its one of their fellow soldiers
MC and friends confront her
Girl titan reveals herself
MC and friends fight Girl titan, MC startings burning for some reason
Humans beat girl titan
Girl titan turns into crystal, rendering most of this pointless
Walls are titans
There, I just saved you 10 hours.
Because it is popular.
Because the manga is better and the majority of the animefans are fucking annoying.
The first five or six episodes are phenomenally good. The animation was solid, music got your blood pumping, it was just really good. After that though, the text-heavy plot just didn't translate well to anime form.
Then Tumblr and fujoshi started putting all the characters on pedestals like they were way more interesting than they actually were. Then youtube LPers started making references to it, Isayama started merchandising the fuck out of it, and diehard fans mostly lost interest because the manga had been out for years and was way ahead of the anime, even after it ended.
It's also kind of weird that characters like Marco and Levi are insanely popular despite not being particularly interesting; hell, Marco wasn't even a main character. He was mostly just alive long enough to make his death upsetting, show off "the horrors of war" theme.
Why would you take out Eren's titan power? It was the only reason humans gained any ground against the Titans. Remember when Mikasa sees him and says 'it's as if humanity's rage had manifested' or something. It was supposed to be a glimmer of hope.
Plus anyone who didn't see it coming is fucking retarded, he dreams about being a Titan in the very first fucking scene.
I could do this for any show that /a/ considers "mandatory" to have good taste, like Eva or Madoka.
It's easy as fuck to boil a plot down to its most basic developments, that's not clever.
i don't hate it, i haven't even seen it. potato girl is best girl, and i have the feeling she dies. thus, not worth.
Ironically the shows you just listed are overrated trash also.
It's convoluted. It changed the entire pace of the story from horrific war against superior beings to typical MC dicksucking while the other characters are there just for the sake of being there. It reminds me of Bleach.
In all honesty, how many episodes do we need where everyone is waiting for Eren to recover, or gain composure inside of his Titan form, while the rest of the characters run around and distract things, or talk to each other about how Eren's a monster, or how they hope Eren is ok?
Why not have the major plot development involve learning how to damage the human titans with superior materials, or better tactics? Instead all we get is "titan is bad, we can't defeat it, let's use that kid, let's wait for that kid to do something, let's talk about that kid, let's show a flashback, ok the kid is ready, ok the kid got his ass beat, ok the kid recovered from titan form while we yelled helplessly, ok mission complete but there were many casualties"
It's just another "look how much cool my main character is, look how awesome he is compared to anyone else." just another SAO move along.
That's what the prequel manga is about, go read that if you want lots of boring exposition about 3DMG.
The cold truth is that humans are ineffective as fuck against Titans, because the Titans themselves were engineered to wipe out humans. There is no "better material", it took them like a hundred years just to figure out the one Titan weakness.
Imagine if the entire population of one world lived fenced inside a country roughly the size of Europe, and had been living there so long most never even wondered what life was like beyond that. Hell, the shitlords inside Wall Rose didn't even give a shit when Titans invaded Wall Maria.
Isayama made this manga to cope with some unresolved bullying issues from his youth, he didn't even do drafts of each manga chapter, he just shipped them out first draft.
Well I guess the major problem is that the main character isn't very interesting, and I really don't care about him turning into a Titan. He's not even that powerful as a Titan. He gets his ass kicked constantly.
>In all honesty, how many episodes do we need where everyone is waiting for Shinji to recover, or gain composure inside of his Eva unit, while the rest of the characters run around and distract things, or talk to each other about how Shinji's a loser, or how they hope Shinji is ok?
>Why not have the major plot development involve learning how to damage the Angels with superior materials, or better tactics? Instead all we get is "Angel is bad, we can't defeat it, let's use that kid, let's wait for that kid to do something, let's talk about that kid, let's show a flashback, ok the kid is ready, ok the kid got his ass beat, ok the kid recovered from emotional breakdown while we yelled helplessly, ok mission complete but there were many casualties"
But I didn't like Evangelion that much either.
no, but it means there's a large number of them on /a/
which makes the fanbase nightmarish
It doesn't matter he still got "I'm a special snowflake" powers.
because that makes it a boring story about how awesome the main character is
who was from what i saw nothing but a whiny babby
I don't like to label it as the spiritual successor of 'insert overrated anime/manga here' like most of the brain dead shitposters here, but because it is extremely cheesy, and melodramatic. Hajime Isayama draws like a twelve year-old with Parkinson's Disorder and has the writing talent of Stephanie Meyer. Eren is an impulsive self-insert and Mikasa is his dream waifu.
The characters are just there for nothing with zero character development while other characters get killed off for shock value that tries to sugarcoat the story with how "war is a never-ending slaughter house and nothing good comes from it" and I think showing people get devoured or crushed by a Titan is too explicit even for a shonen manga for the sake of getting the viewer's attention.
The whole 'last bastion of humanity' concept was cool and the story would've been decent if Eren didn't become a Titan and have the whole plot revolve around Eren being the chosen one. Most people that got into the anime probably expected something gory like Hellsing Ultimate or Elfen Lied and it got milked to Hell and back. Plus Isayama is throwing a bone at the audience and changing the ending to cater to the anime fans and is a massive sell out.
look you fucksticks
there's a difference between having side characters with actual human fucking traits, and having one dimensional playing cards whose only role in the show is to get injured and talk about the main character
your insistence that the same can be said about every show is asinine, because refusing to acknowledge an argument doesn't mean it's immediately defeated
Why the fuck do you keep calling Eren "whiny"? He was powered by pure rage, you faggots wouldn't last five seconds in their world.
If Eren could utilize Spiral Energy the series would be half as long.
me too, that was scary
>characters with actual human fucking traits
IN ORDER TO FIGHT TITANS YOU MUST BECOME THEM!!! DIRECTED BY MICHAEL BAY!! STARRING SHIA LABEOUF!! COMING 2015.
>Hajime Isayama draws like a twelve year-old with Parkinson's Disorder and has the writing talent of Stephanie Meyer.
Then where's your best-selling anime, bud? If Isayama is so shitty then obviously you could do better, right? Oh, you can't? Shocker.
I don't hate it, I just don't care about it but jesus christ, why the art is so fucking terrible? the characters looks like shit, the anatomy and perspective are worse than amateur leve, expressions are hilarious bad, the panels are terrible and is hard to tell what the fuck is going on. Why magazines allow this shit?
he just mentioned Stephanie Meyer, Twilight sells a lot too.
the main adult characters were characterized well
>The whole 'last bastion of humanity' concept was cool and the story would've been decent if Eren didn't become a Titan and have the whole plot revolve around Eren being the chosen one.
Apocalypse stories can be good, but not when they're written by a guy who thinks "and then humanity was oppressed" repeated ad nauseum is good exposition.
>if i post a reaction image and greentext facts about a show, it makes it look like it's ridiculous
you're obviously one of those faggots i was replying to
And yet for every person who pisses on her and the Twilight series, you don't see any of them going out and writing best-sellers either.
I like the artstyle, it's got a bit more flavor than the average anime.
Thing is, Mikasa would be a much better character if she didn't spend half of her lines crying about Eren. Or screaming about Eren. Or wondering if Eren was ok. Hell, Mikasa should have been the MC and Eren should have died in the first episode.
With the exceptions of smaller figures, he's gotten a lot better. The anatomy is decent now-good in the majority of panels. Perspectives are still messed up at times though.
didn't Stephen King said she was full of shit?
>the one panel where mikasa is completely unrecognizable
I assume you're talking about the manga, in which case the reason is because he started it when he was pretty young, and that was like five years ago.
If you're talking about the gorgeous anime art then you must be fucking blind, it looks polished as fuck.
If I wasn't so lazy, I'd probably aim straight for that 12-16 year old girl audience. It's the biggest cash cow imaginable. You got the girls, their parents, their boyfriends, and the outcast kids who want to be with the girls all in one fell swoop. It's major money. The girls at that age tend to have a gigantic sheep mentality, no matter what clique they are in, and you can essentially have every single clique buying your product, forcing their boyfriends to come to your shitty movies, and make their parents buy your shitty products. Best get rich scheme imaginable.
>saying SHE'S full of shit
he is shit too but is also a bestseller.
I don't know, I read a few Stephen King books and he can really paint some horrific pics.
Just because something is awfully written is successful doesn't mean it's good.
if you have no imagination
my target would be nerds and hipsters online
you can write/draw whatever the fuck you want and it will go viral
If it's stupid and it works, it ain't stupid.
>YOU CANT DO BETTER!
it's always an invalid argument regardless of truth
the people who use it would rather mention asinine irrelevant shit than actually talk about why their favourite show might not be perfect
every show has flaws, and acknowledging them doesn't make you a hater, it makes you a reasonable person with opinions and preferences
Why do they have so few cannons and such a simple ditch system? The gate is obviously the weakest part of the wall so why not dig a maze of ditches and overload it with cannons?
My favorite kind of posts are people asking obvious questions like these.
I loved that scene because they show all the painstaking effort they went to in fortifying the gate, and then five seconds later a Titan just fucking blasts it away. So ineffectual that it circles right around to comedic.
>more flavor than your average anime
What board did you come from /v/ you obvious don't browse here.
>Why don't they just kill the Titans with guns instead of swords?
because if it looks like a shitty defense, you have an excuse to have no titans die, break through the wall, and then get the main character to fight them and win the day
self inserts only work if you provide just enough flimsy justification for the main character to be necessary
making the humans any kind of competent would reduce the impact of the titans (which having eren transform does anyway, which is fucking contradictory) and mean that eren becomes a part of a team, instead of a special unique snowflake
I think people should appreciate this anime, purely on the grounds that they took a shitty artstyle and made it look slick as fuck.
You can argue about cliches and whatever the fuck but come on, there are shows that look a lot worse than this visually, airing right now.
Guns aren't strong enough to kill. They need specially made steel to cut deep enough to kill, and even then it puts a shitload of strain on the blades- except for Levi because GOTTA GO FAST
Wait so somebody has some common sense here? Shit I thought I was alone.
but is that enough to warrant watching the whole show?
Swords over guns makes sense in most other situations because of how mobile and durable the titans are. The problem is that this is the perfect situation to use them since they can prepare the terrain to slow the titans down and the bottleneck allows them to concentrate their fire into a narrow area.
I stopped liking it when it went to 50% recap, 50% new content. Did that change?
i liked it for the most part but the ending sucked... just like all the other shows for a while now... maybe its time to stop watching anime
Why couldn't this show be the Shadow of the colossus of anime?
There were some scenes that looked like it was from a high budget work, and some other scenes that just had quality printed all over the frame.
It was inconsistent at the very best
With those ellipses and grammar, yeah get out. You'll be sorely missed but it's for the best of all of us.
Because the manga was just another zombie plot from the start?
>Why do you hate SAO?
>Why do you hate SnK?
>Why do you hate Naruto?
How many threads until we get to the bottom of these vast mysteries?
all of you commenters are faggots, whining about Titan shifting and Eren being a whiny Shinji-type....well he does kick ass, and he does mean to wipe out all Titans......I'm just hoping this series doesn't go the way of Gantz (plot gets so convoluted even the author doesn't know where to go) or the route of HoTD ( half-decade hiatus almost anyone?)
>worried since eren can't get hard
Also plot twist after plot twist without any real substance.
I definitely wouldn't recommend it for the story, but the action is good when there is any.
Man, all of the hater-posters here are fucking retards....you guys do realize that MC isn't the only person with Titan powers, right? This MAJORLY decreases his god-tier, whilst making him even more important to the wall-humans in their struggle, since now they know their enemy has human intellect and titan powers. And the side-characters still play a part, because they CAN fight Titans as humans, evne though they're a lot more fragile, they're much more nimble and agile with their 3DMG than MOST of the titans they face. Man, you cocksuckers are the cancer killing 4chan, and I'd like to see every last one of you create a hype-ass, awasrd-winning anime...oh wait, you can't because you have Chris-chan's cock in your asses. STFU.
grammar nazi strikes again
>lel riting like a kid is kool XD kek
I'm sorry we have standards here /co/.
lel riting like i care what some grammar nazi thinks on an anonymous weeaboo board
Mikasa, despite obviously being capable of mass titan destruction, endlessly rides on Eren's dick, whom is oblivious to her completely.
Eren, despite being fueled by pure rage instead of being a whiny bitch MC, gets his ass whooped 24/7.
Everyone is either background characters or dead.
So, is it Levi or Rivaille?
levi could easily kill eren if he wanted, also annie beats him 1x1 easily, i don't read the manga but i'm pretty sure the colossal and armored titan also beat the shit out of him
