will there ever be another anime as good as Angel Beats?
/a/ largely hates Angel Beats.
Which is a shame because it's pretty unique, looks good, has distinctive music and good characters.
I don't even think the VN is going to be as good.
I thought the characters were fun, but developed at awkward paces. The ending also felt like forced sadness. Not the worst show in the world, not the best.
>will there ever be another anime as good as Angel Beats?
Angel beats was pretty bad, so to answer your question, yes.
I thought the ending was happy.
>I don't even think the VN is going to be as good.
Gotta disagree, I think the main weakness of Angel Beats was that it kind of set you up to expect character-arc episodes like the ones you got for Yui and Hinata, but then a bunch of other shit happened instead and you never got to figure out the story behind some of the more intriguing characters.
The VN is probably going to fix that.
i prefer kore wa zombie desu ka than angel beats, i bored watch it just 1 eps
This guy gets it. I think the show itself lends itself to a VN format.
I think there's more merit to this line of thinking than the idea that it had to meet some sort of length quota or they didn't answer every question about the world.
Key needs to stick to what they know
...I actually assumed this show was a VN adaption of some sort.
It's an adaption of a VN from the future.
I actually thought it worked the way they did it. With that many characters it would have dragged on far too long to give each character an episode. I think it was good giving Hinata and Yui an arc, because they were the most involved in the events that took place, as much as we all wanted to see what TK's problem was, he didn't have enough importance to deserve an episode in the 13 episode show.
But yeah, basically the VN will wrap up anything we didn't get the first time around. Although it's going to be dissappointing not having action scenes anymore
Angel Beats would have been fantastic if it was 26 episodes. I still cried like a bitch tho.
Every anime since Angel Beats.
I don't understand.
I liked the art but the characters were bland and shallow as fuck
The same can be said about kill la kill except the art in that is shit.
Why do so many people hate AB anyway? If you ignore the plot, which is what most people seem to hate it for, you still get some pretty good comedy with great music and cute girls.
this guy gets it. The show was good, but it had a lot more potential, and hopefully the VN will help fix it.
If VN sells well, hoping for a remake with 26 episodes as it was originally planned for so Key doesn't rush it and fuck it up. Concept/Music/Character Potential was all well done, execution was bad.
If they continue where they finished off, it'll ruin the whole open ending and make this rushed story worse.
How lewd is the VN going to be?
Can I make Yui NTR blue hair and destroy her purity?
yeah it was very sad, but that fucked up plot man, nothing made sense
There's nothing to support this theory.
This, and everyone tagging this made good points and I have almost nothing further to add. The love interest/relationshippy stuff would have had more of an effect on me if the series had more time to actually set those relationships up.
... How the fuck did whoever made that pass on "AnalBeads!"
It's all ages.
Key write shitty sex scenes. You aren't missing anything.
Yes, there have been many. Even more that are better but fewer have been worse.
No one's going to fap to it. I personally want to see them defiled.
Angel Beast was better
It had potential. And its humour was decent. But It certainly had its flaws.
>I don't even think the VN is going to be as good.
Sorry. Anyone who's ever played a Key VN would have to disagree with you. Maeda works much better without the restrictions he had to deal with for the Angel Beats anime. Even ONE is better fleshed out than the Angel Beats anime.
It'll be good if it gets a remake and then at least gains the status of the Kanon anime in terms of Key adaptations. /a/ rightfully considers it rushed shit, and I think it's the worst thing to come out of Key. (including Tactics works)
>tfw voting no and lots
Kill la kill is shit though
Because "AnalBeads" is not an anagram.
neither is AnalBeast.
Never. It was absolutely perfect, unmatched.
Bullshit. Tomoyo After is worse for one thing.
For another maeda can screw up and turning the whole thing into a harem sounds like the best way to make it shitty.
Then he'll probably pull the Key drama out and the game will be needlessly depressing. More than the anime.
With Maeda emphasizing the male cast more and more with each Key VN, I don't think it would turn out that way. "Needlessly depressing" is kind of a rough term. Usually people don't have issues with some parts of Key. They either consider is >90% needlessly melodrama or they enjoy the drama. I don't get how it's going to be that much more of a harem (or why that would necessarily be a bad thing) when it's an adaptation of the common route from the anime with changes, and when the male cast are also getting their own routes. The bros worked wonders for Little Busters (Kyousuke is more popular than his sister), so I would hope Maeda's wise enough to give them ample free time. He has always seemed to write some tomboyish characters to handle certain types of gags (girl who gets picked on, girl who beats shit up, girl who fights with MC), and now he has dedicated male characters to take on those roles, so I think the guys will carry some significant presence.
My biggest worry is Key's side writers. The ones they picked aren't too bad, but I don't find them to be great from what I've read from them. They haven't done enough to say much, though.
It's an interesting question. Will he work better under restrictions or under conditions where they're forcing more content than ever before out of him? I don't consider Angel Beats! bad and I've seen people do more amazing things when they are limited so I don't think the game will be better.
The only reason people would be hyped for the game is if they liked they characters right? Angel Beats! did an excellent job with 13 episodes.
Nah. Ep 1 was amazing. It only fell to shit when they swapped over to comedy/SoL.
Which says a lot about Japanese comedy/SoL.
We really need to wait until the game is actually released. At this point people worshipping the idea come off like those who believe R2 was going to be so much better if only they'd stayed "true" to their "original" "plan".
Unless you've seen what you're comparing it to, your mind is going to fill in the blanks to be 10x more awesome.
I liked the characters, but I'd like to see them be more than 1/10th as good as the ones from Key's other VNs, and not just be the same gags and be more well-rounded.
Maeda with years to work on Angel Beats to put out this amount of content isn't too bad, especially when he has two other side writers, the OST has already been composed for the most part, and there is critique from the anime to work off of. The "forcing more content" idea I guess comes from Baba's "6 volume" scheme, because Maeda seemed to have intended it as one super Angel Beats package to be released at once. And I mean, it's a long Little Busters-esque common route with each additional volume adding more character routes, and Maeda will likely be writing half of the routes at the most, and he has the anime and his scripts from production to construct the common route from.
My concern is the route quality, and how Maeda will change/fix/improve the overall story. For example, will he keep the same ending as the anime? Will Yui's route have more detail, buidup, believability? When Maeda throws in a 30,000 line common route and 5000+ line heroine route, buildup and character nuances can be better established.
Ultimately you're right, but I've never seen Maeda's work so horribly rushed before, and the best he could pull off wasn't even on par with some of Key's earlier heroine routes, and there was less buildup.
I wonder if Maeda's ideas for the story are actually being published right now through Heaven's Door.
I made it in MSPaint just for you
>not changing the kana
Aren't you a picky one.
Much appreciated. You are a cool anon.
Comedy was decent.
Drama was awful.
