Who else here is watching Space Dandy simply because Shinichiro Watanabe made this?
Well entertained by this, but also can't help that is kinda a letdown.
I kind of feel you, but I'm not watching this for Shinichiro. I'm mostly watching this because one of the screenwriters wrote for my favorite show.
Who? Please tell me Koshi Rikdo or Nabeshin wrote this
I gave it the three episode rule. Officially dropped.
Why dropping it?
I'm watching because it because Shingo Natsume made it. Can't say I'm impressed.
I honestly don't know why some of you guys hate it. Were you expecting a deep show? Or like some of my retard friends who think it's gonna be like Cowboy Bebop when it's clearly Lupin in Space.
I'm watching it because I give most everything a try, and it's been a fun show. I have no expectations about it based on Watanabe or Cowboy Bebop and am simply enjoying the show for what it is.
It's shit. The only good thing about it is the music.
What? It's no more Lupin than Fujiko was.
Are there any gifs of Meow batting his paw at the hologram?
Is the music by the Seatbelts, by any chance?
Same thing happened with this and Kill la Kill. Idiots on /a/ keep expecting new Gurren Lagann and new Cowboy Bebop and when they don't get it, they bitch and moan.
SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO FUCKING TERRIBBBBBBBBBBLEEEEEEEEE
>SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO FUCKING TERRIBBBBBBBBBBLEEEEEEEEE
I hope you're banned for spamming/flooding.
Its not bad enough for me to drop, but it gets maybe a laugh or two per episode. Its just so fucking underwhelming.
It's actually hundreds of different people telling you that space dandy is a steaming pile of turd shit. Not just 1 person posting over and over again
Everyone forgets that Bebop had plenty of mediocre-to-bad episodes. I'd even go so far as to say more than half of them aren't worth a rewatch. Imagine /a/ watching Stray Dog Strut, BWFS, or Ganymede Elegy for the first time and putting it under the microscope.
Prove it. Quote every single person in this thread saying it's shit and snip your results. Show me you aren't a samefag.
>Stray Dog Strut
But that's one of my favorite episodes next to SLAC, Pierrot LeFieu, Cowboy Funk and Sympathy for the Devil.
The difference Bebop had a strong start, so bad episodes were just a temporary dip. Having a weak start doesn't inspire confidence for future eps.
I can't think of a single episode that was disappointing. For the most part, they all had a purpose, or were interesting. I've been them all multiple times, as has any /a/tard.
>as has any /a/tard.
I've probably seen them all 2-3 because they aired on AS during my teens, but I didn't even think Cowboy Bebop was that good. I still don't.
I just came across this on one of my favorite commissioner's FA page. Most of these have less than 200 views so I assume that means none of you Meow faggots around here have seen it yet. So check this motherfucker's gallery out. It goes all the way into the next page on his gallery. He's /really/ fucking into Meow. I wish I had the money to commission art of him like this.
>Linking to furaffinity
>for any reason
Meowfags truly are cancer.
Meh. It's alright. A bit too random and silly for me to love it, but the animation looks great and it's something I watch with my little brother.
I don't give a fuck. I go where the Meow is. If some faggot wants to upload a gigabyte worth of images of him on FA, then I'm there bro.
I think the problem is that since Shinichiro Watanabe people are comparing it so in depth to Cowboy bebop, even though the shows are pretty different.
This is more comedy whereas bebop is mainly drama
what about Samurai Champloo?
I'd really hate to say this because I really fucking hated the comic relief that was constantly thrown in my face in cowboy bebop, I mean it's the reason I dislike the show.
but cowboy bebop was funnier.
even though it wasn't their intention.
This show is a fucking shitstack all around with some few exceptions.
I personally am only watching it for Meow.
If only he could have been in an anime that wasn't complete diarrhea.
I'm only watching this because of /a/ and that fucking pompadour.
I want to stroke it so bad.
We were told ahead of time that "if Cowboy Bebop was 20% comedy and 80% drama, then Space Dandy is 80% comedy and 20% drama." If people were expecting something like Cowboy Bebop, they weren't paying attention. Even still, I was expecting something with at least a coherent plot. I don't like how characters apparently die and then just suddenly they're still there next episode. It's just a little too silly for me to love it. I'm still watching it because bonding with little brother and appreciating the animation though.
we were told that is was like the mushroom episode but every week, except that episode is funnier thna anything in Space Dandy
I admit the show started off pretty slow but I thought episode three was pretty good. It gave me hope that Dandy isn't completely useless and can be badass once in awhile.
I really disliked the first episode, I didn't have strong feelings about the second, and I kinda liked the third one. So I'm not sure where I stand on this show. I'm going to give it a couple more episodes.
I think that comedy in general is a difficult genre to get right for any medium, due to senses of humour varying greatly between people. So just in general, majority would find this show a letdown
What're you doing? Your not making anyrealwords...
Who were you told that by?
That's probably true. Comedy is a lot more subjective than something like drama or action which have slightly more concrete metrics.
I watched ep 1 and was pretty bored. I had a few laughs and that's about it. I kind of get the appeal, but it's just not entertaining to me.
>i had a few laughs
I'm genuinely curious. Can you give me an example of something you found funny?
I smirk maybe three times an episode and I'm normally an easily entertained guy.
Watanabe bumped it up on my to-watch priority, but I was gonna check it out regardless because the premise seemed fun and it was done by Bones. I give everything by bones a shot because they have consistently good animation.
Not him but
>ep3, where he shoots laser beams in various poses and misses all of them
>ep3 where it turns put that the aliens were warning him all along, mostly because of the dub
>same ep where he abandons meow but turns back when it turns out he still got his boobies card
>Spass Landy preview>>100705439
I find boob jokes to be boring and tasteless, as well as the repetitive humour thing (tweeting -> getting caught -> tweeting -> getting caught etc) so overall the show's pretty disappointing but the silly pointless storylines such as finding a unique ramen kind of entertain me
I'm watching it because it's anime and I don't need a special reason to give it my attention, nor do I try to build up expectations which will always fall flat and hamper my enjoyment. I don't understand why you people do this to yourselves.
a-are you fucking serious?
... There's nickelodeon cartoons that have higher brow comedy than that.
I'd say Dandy looks cool as fuck when he does badass poses, he's like a combination of a greaser douchebag and a super exaggerated women's romance novel protag, but what kind of five year old would find the fact that he misses funny at all?
How did the TV airing get away with this?
It blurred the nipples.
I think that sometimes the Japanese confuse "Comedy" with "Lighthearted".
In particular that Japanese sense of humor and western sense of humor seem to be very incompatible.
There's definitely a big difference between Japanese humor and Western humor. I think Japanese humor tends to be a lot more subtle and they like wordplay a lot more than we do. Humor varies all around the world really. I mean compare the BBC to anything else on western TV.
On the first episode, after he misses, he does this spin thing and drops his gun, but the scene and Dandy play out as if it didn't happen and its completely ignored. I think that was the only time I laughed during the entire episode.
Even with low expectations its just not very funny. Most gags suck.
>knew absolutely nothing about it, hadn't seen any trailers or knew who was on the crew
>all I had to go based off of was this image
>still completely let down but continue to watch it anyway and browse these threads because of him
I expected nothing and I was still disappointed.
You forget that both Watanabe's previous shows had more success in the West than it did in Japan, particularly in the U.S because of the dubbed versions. So he and whatever team he works with can do comedy that branches that cultural barrier. And while Bebop was more of a drama than Champloo was, most of its jokes did hit the mark in terms of being relatable by American audiences. I even find Space Dandy entertaining and quite enjoy it, but it does have moments where the jokes seem to be aimed at a different audience than the jokes in his previous two shows.
No. Still stellar. the ED is composed/arranged by Yoko Kanno, however.
Flop of the year. Saving anime my ass.
Thanks got we still have Yamakan.
>he does this spin thing and drops his gun
That got me good, and to be honest I don't know if it was supposed to be all that funny. There must have been many people that missed it because it happened so fast, so it's like it wasn't intended to be a main joke of the episode.
I'm watching it for the animation
Nothing to be disappointed with so far
>both Watanabe's previous shows
Fucking newfags. Watanabe has more than two shows you know?
Does anyone have the gif of this? I know it exists, seen it posted before.
Than how come Bebop is more fun than Dandy, if Dandy supposed to have 4 times more comedy?
Why does everyone forget Apollon.
They forget because it didn't air on Cartoon Network.
Never mind, I found it here. I saved it on my desktop like a dumbass.
He was the original savior after all. He'll never abandon us.
I think it's lots of fun so far. It's just as good as Cowboy Bebop.
lupin seems competent, this dandy guys a total fuck up
Time for good taste
Lexx > Tripping the Rift > Futurama > Hitchhikers Guide > Russian space cartoons > Cowboy Bebop > Red Dwarf > Hyperdrive> shit > smelly shit > Battlestar galactica > Space Dandy
At least watch superior animation instead of wasting time on shit like SD
yeah, Cowboy Bebop is one of the few anime that actually makes me laugh, I think is because the drama made me care about the characters so when something happens to them, I'm invested and is funny, Space Dandy is joke after jokes without a moments that make me care about the characters
stopped reading there
As a jazz musician I have clear bias towards it, but it's definitely his superior work in my opinion. I think it's forgotten because it's so stylistically different.
One more week till full ED
>I think it's forgotten because it's so boring
Why does no one remember he worked on Macross Plus
>all those battlestar galactica fans buthurt
since SD has no fans
It's also an adaption where his other more known works are originals. It's much the same reason everyone forgets he did Mac Plus.
Different tastes for different people I guess
Needs Farscape and Firefly added.
I haven't seen 3/4ths of the retarded shit you just listed. I just want you to go back to facebook for actually enjoying Hitchhiker's guide and Futurama.
>no one understands each episode is so crazy/random because they're all parallel dimensions
The fucking ED even explains it.
Yes I am being serious. I dont know if its a culture thing, but I find these things hilarious especially in dub, and so does my officemates
>having an ED explain something is an excuse for everything being shitty and retarded!
More anime should use that technique then.
I am, But also because its an original and Bones is doing it.
Maybe I just don't get it but I don't find it funny at all, Bebop is superior in every way at the moment.
>no one cares that they're all parallel dimensions because each episode is so lazy/shit
Because about 50% of Bebop wasn't actually that good. People just remember things like mushrooms and lel fou and forget about things like feng shui and the old kid.
You will never enjoy anything ever again.
i wonder if it gets anywhere from episodic adventures
what irks me is appearantly the monkey knew about the alien on that planet from the book but it was somehow unregistered in alien database anyway
It`s been a while i seen a person as retarded as this.
>not enjoying Hitchhiker's Guide
You probably dropped the book for being 'random' and haven't even listened to the radio show it was based on.
>starts off with lexx
What a fucking shit guzzler. You're like the Humvee of poop.
Too deep for you?
That one action said more about his character than his silly tits speech. It's subtle stuff like this that's great
Yeah, it's kind of a letdown, but it's still quite fun, and pretty Western.
I'm still going to keep making my parents watch it with me, despite it's rather tasteless humor, as a continuing experiment.
I have the problem that I just can't really figure out what I'm watching. It feels like a series of vignettes rather than any sort of coherent story.
Episode 1: Alien Hunter beams down to planet with his new cat companion only to be completely overwhelmed by aliens. A giant mech appears and makes a Terminator 2 reference. Then everyone blows up.
Episode 2: The search for the ultimate ramen leads them to an alternative dimension inhabited by an old alien who became a chef after accidentally killing his girlfriend with his flame breath.
Episode 3: A transforming escape pod mech in a Hawaiian shirt fights a literal titty monster over a reward card for Space Hooters.
it's the same thing champloo and bebop did
crazy and episodic with minor amounts of character development snuck in periodically
dropped bebop twice. Enjoying this because its fresh bottle of water in an endless sea of harem and mecha/phantom shits.
Is it gonna keep the episodic structure?
Are the episodes even connected at all or is this some kind of reset after every episode anime?
It feels like a complete waste of time watching this.
> Why is Dandy so unlikeable?
> Why is Dandy such an asshole?
> Breast, 'booby' and horny humor?
> still laughing about that
> constantly broke trope lelelel we need to eat disgusting food because we are so poor
> The evil enemies are fucking idiots and get beaten by the even more idiotic Dandy with slapstick humor. So funny. Not.
It's basically a more cartoony, over-the-top Bebop
>Enjoying this because its fresh bottle of water in an endless sea of harem and mecha/phantom shits.
Pretty much. It's different enough to keep me watching. It just confuses the hell out of me.
but space hooters and dandy being a jerk are the best part of the show
Sure, Bebop was very episodic, but it never felt quite as disjointed.
I'm still enjoying it more than virtually everything else this season.
>The evil enemies are fucking idiots and get beaten by the even more idiotic Dandy with slapstick humor.
Except they also get themselves killed about as often or get their asses saved by someone else
Are you even watching the show?
Someone above 16 tell me why this show is funny?
No. None of the knee-jerk whining is coming from people who are.
I wish you people would stop with this meow corruption.
I just want to hug him and keep him as a pet, not fuck him.
Space dandy is pretty enjoyable.
We don't use that word.
People over 16 aren't allowed here, granny.
I'm enjoying, even the little nod to older 80's cartoons with the little music trail off at the beginning.
What I wanted: Space Adventures and tits.
What I got: Space Adventures, tits, ship fleets, crazy alien designs, references to ramen stadium, more tits, Hawaii themed mecha, and other assorted goodies with some really neat animation.
I am having a blast. Not sure what people are mad about.
I am, I like the music and meow is great, but overall it is underwhelming. I'll watch it till the end though, maybe it will pick up, most likely not though.
Honestly, Its not really that much better or worse than Cowboy Bebop so far. Its just people overrate that to fucking oblivion that they expected this to actually be god tier.
I'd say we were expecting someone that's not an incompetent prick to have screentime at some point, yes.
Yankee in a Hawaii shirt themed mecha*
How did they do that yankee part in the english version?
No, zany, trippy action sequences like in the second half of the first episode are the best part of the show.
Looks like team galaxy.
Space Dandy is what Cowboy Bebop would be if every episode was Toys in the Attic.
At this point, Watanabe could shit on a plate and feed it to /a/ and they will ask for more.
Oh wait, I didn't mean to start talking about Space Dandy.
This. I honestly don't know what people saw in Cowboy Bebop. It's good, but not to the point that you'd be easily disappointed with Space Dandy if you were expecting Cowboy Bebop 2.0.
I was expecting actual humour, not the most pathetic prepub gags ever.
We're talking about Space Dandy, not some cute girls SoL where every episode is the same joke.
So how come everyone compares it to cowboy bebop? Its the same director but it made me think of >>100711612 what I said earlier. and that is a really gaggy show. Maybe it'll pull a fast one, eh.
your taste is absolutely disgusting
Keep latching on that one funny moment.
That totally justifies the rest of the boring ass episodes, of course.
your life is pointless even by /a/ standards
Enjoy being a space turd
Sorry, should I have mentioned the cult episode? Because that was shit too.
CB was not a masterpiece show. CB had masterpiece episodes, but in no way was every episode amazing. People need to come to terms with this before attacking Dandy for not being 10/10.
Watanabe himself, you shit stain
>even by /a/ standards
Oh no. What will I do now.
>Go in expecting wacky space adventures
>get wacky space adventures
If you are disappointed you have only yourself to blame.
>Why is Dandy so unlikeable?
>Why is Dandy such an asshole?
He's already one of the most likable anime characters out there.
What the fuck is this...
i for one watch it because i think its fun.if you do anything else you are pretty much a fag
I watch it, because it's airing, like any other anime that does that.
get a life then nerd
