ITT: Your first anime
Taro the dragon boy for me. I was like 6 when I watched it.
Bleach. I still love it don't you guys?
Gurren Lagan is so random xD
speed racer, I guess.
I am not sure whether it was Grendizer ,Getter Robot or Captain Tsubasa. They started broadcasting about the same time.
The Original Vampire Hunter D
technically DBZ. besides that... Dual! Parallel Trouble Adventure.
Superbook & Flying House
Captain fucking Tsubasa.
I miss so much those 5km long stadiums...
Grendizer and Sailor Moon
El-Hazard, Magic User's Club
Probably Sailor Moon, go swedish dub!
Fuck yeah I'm gonna supershot your supershot
my neighbor totoro or dragonball z, i am not sure which showed up first
Ranma 1/2. Akane smashing Ranma with a table was a clincher.
Probably DBZ or Pokemon.
If we're including Shit We Didn't Know Was Anime, probably Maya the Bee, the Noozles or one of those other Jap cartoons they showed on Nickelodeon in the 80s.
Moomin. But I didn't know it was anime at the time. My second was Akira.
Probably Totoro. First TV series I watched all the way through was Bebop.
tao tao. i didn't know that was anime...
then came moomins, and my sister made me watch silver fang when I was about 4. last episodes - and they weren't even uncut - traumatized me.
Like most people born in 1989, we matured to the point of watching TV stations with anime on them juuust about when Sailor Moon appeared on them. So, yes.
Maya the Bee was anime? Fuck.
Otherwise, knowingly, Cowboy Bebop.
You people are epic
I fapped wildly to Sailor Moon =D
pic is sadly unrelated
I have no idea. Something with space pirates, but I don't recall anything else since I was 5 or six at the time.
Then I moved from America to Thailand and almost every cartoon on TV was animu. Stuff that was on all the time were Doraemon and Ikkyusan. I think they still show those over there even now.
Are movies acceptable?
...and nothing's topped it since.
Zettai Muteki Raijin-Oh
I forget does 'The Top Striker' count as an anime? If not, the very first thing I ever saw that came outta Japan was 3x3 Eyes.
CAN YOU FEEL THE THUNDER INSIIIIIIIIIIDE?
Not exactly what I watched but its one of my firsts.
The other first was GITS.
It probably wasn't my very first, but the first I remember was the Guyver OVA. I was probably 4 at the time, and my brother was in high school and had awesome taste in anime.
Dragonball, or maybe macross, or thundercats? i dunno which came first.
This was the best fucking thing ever for a boy aged 6 or so. Yes I am old enough to remember it (early 1970's). I also had the hots for Neptina. :P
First one I watched: Speed Racer
First one I watch knowing it was anime: Black Jack OVA
First one I downloaded: Gun x Sword
LOL SAILOR MOON
The first anime I watched that I watched as a anime instead of a a cartoon would be Eva. The first anime I saw would be either pokemon or some old anime movie.
I'm 18 btw.
probably doromon or saint seiyaa however u spell it
I was probably about 8 when I watched Akira on late night SBS (Melbourne-fag here).
I remember certain scenes vividly...
First I downloaded was The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya iirc.
GIGANTO THE GIANT ROBOT!
Aw, I remember watching that as a kid on Nick Jr., too bad it suddenly disappeared one day. My favorite was the spoiled prince turned pauper turned hero episode.
Probably Sailormoon or DBZ, then got hooked to Wataru.
Serial Experiments Lain
Flame of Recca
AstroBoy, in the 60's, when anime was good.
anime was never good.
Starblazers. (star battleship yamato)
closely followed by tank police
Ginga Nagareboshi Gin, fucking made of win.
LOVE fuking HINA.
Or maybe Speed Racer. One of the two.
Speed "fuckin'" Racer
And then DBZ and Sailor Moon.
Mine was Jesus: The Anime
Jesus is GAR
Moses is comic relief
Mary is tsundere for Jesus
On the second thought, probably Speed Racer.
Like many people I grew up with, Pokemon.
That was my first porn search too.
Saint Seya (4 years old IIRC), then CCS and Sailor Moon.
After that it was DBZ, Rarouni Kenshin, Pokemon, InuYasha and Digimon (I was 7 at the time).
In that order. If I'm not wrong, I saw Patlabor ans Shaman King after the others, then tryed downloading Naruto when it was still new, and now I watch whatever /a/ says is win and/or fail.
I actually have no idea what it was fucking called. I saw it on the Sci-Fi channel when I was like 7, right after my family moved to the states. It involved a couple of chicks and maybe one dude stranded in space, or something? It was a movie or OVA, because I remember it being short. Its pretty vague in my mind, but I am certain that was my first, it kept me up late watching the Sci-Fi channel for anime after that.
The one that really hooked me in though was Macross, or the first portion of Robotech as it was aired on the original Toonami.
Robotech and Transformers
I love you.
Mum made me watch Grendizer when i was a kid. Then it was transformers with my brother then i think it was Pokemon a few years later.
Sailor Moon or something transfomer related, back when I was a little kid. But I didn't even realise it was anime. Then I watched some Miyazaki.
My first (relatively) non-mainstream anime was Hellsing by GONZO.
Samurai Pizza Cats.... really liked the show ^^
English dub wasn't actually bad.
Genmu Senki Leda.
pokemon or outlaw star
In regards to everyone referencing Samurai Pizza Cats, Voltron, Speed Racer, etc. I wonder how many people actually knew they were watching something Japanese when they saw these first. I sure didn't, and when I posted my first anime in this thread I didn't even think about those.
first that i watched as a cartoon - voltron, sabre riders, robotech. i knew they were from japan but aside from that they were just usual saturday morning fare.
first that i watched as anime - ghost in the shell (movie) closely followed by akira. first series would be serial experiements lain.
FUCK YEAH MOOMIN.
Dragonball or Sailormoon probably
LOVE & PEACE
Flame of Recca.
Best Fuko ever
no, the irony's not lost on me
Most people did not, then again cartoons wasn't serious business back when you were a kid, 20 years later on the other hand...
Porco Rosso or Moomin.
Your first anime was Girlfriend of Steel?
Something called "Life Melody". Basically "The Sound of Music" in animu form.
Starvengers - or its real name - Getter Robo.
nausicaa of the valley of the wind. First, and best
honestly the 1st anime i saw was La blue girl. and the second one i saw was legend of the overfeind. then gyver then i was hooked ever sence.
Voltron. Adventures of the Little Koala. Noozels. The Little Bits. Grimm's Fairy Tales. Samurai Pizza Cats. DBZ. Twilight of the Cockroaches. Gigantor. G-Force. Robot Carnival. Speed Racer. Vampire Hunter D. Sailor Moon. Akira. Demon City Shinjuku. Project Ako. Casshan Robot Hunter.
I still have the videotape somehow, but I don't think it'll work.
Either Maya the Bee or Heidi, followed by Captain Tsubasa and Versailles no Bara (screw the localized name, I can't be arsed to find the actual title as of now).
Damn it, just the thought that I've have been brought up with anime since I was practically in diapers makes me feel all funny.
I watched Astroboy and Mazinger Z reruns as a kid. Also, Starzinger.
Unico in the Island of Magic
That shit was scary.
Magical Princess Minky Momo, youngfags.
I actually cried like a... well, a little crybaby when I saw the last episode.
Mazinger Z, on tv. 1982
NGE is the first that counted when I was 12
before that was random stuff on TV (korean TV)
like Slayers, Sailormoonz, Grangjo, saint tail, etc. but I was like 7 years old
Live-eviL si actually subbing that at the moment, although they're only on ep 6 so far, seen it on TT every now and then
