Well you're a really shitty /fit/izen then. You build muscle while doing cardio training. It's the repeated movements for long periods of time that build and tone lean muscle mass. Doing that almost exclusively helps your body move like an oiled machine while swimming. The only muscle training you need as a swimmer is basic stuff like crunches, bicep and leg curls, tricep dips, and shoulder press. And you only would have to do these maybe three times a week for about 1-1.5 hours. Almost all swimming training should be cardio via swimming and occasional weight training.

False. Almost all professional swimmers have a weight lifting regiment. I remember some stories about israel getting some amazing results from what had previously been mediocre athletes on an archaic program shifting over to a program with sqoots.
