You need to be logged in to nicovideo when using it.

The new update to nicovideo also included the ability for users on livedoor to see videos without logging on to nicovideo, but I don't know of the download sites take advantage of that yet - or if they can.

Signing up is easy. Also there's bugmenot and mailinator.

so it's recorded as 264, or nicovideo receibes 264 and transforms to flv ?
>>
>>10056884
FlashPlayer supports streaming h264, and has for a while. flv is a container. flv container w/ h264 is what streams.
>>
>>10056884
lol, the default downloader did it like mp4 instead flv
>>
>>10056884
It's actually streaming H.264 video. You have to encode and upload yourself.

If you upload raw HQ video, the resulting auto-encode is usually rather shitty.

Also H.264 is only for premium members for now. Still, you can make pretty damn good FLV encodes as the first video in OP shows.

then what's inside the flv of old nicovideo and youtube?

I remember when the first beta version of that was posted on /a/. We saged, raged and said it sucks. Now it's all grown up and making its way in the world, kicking ass and taking names. It makes me proud as a tough love /a/niki.
>>
>>10056789

Since r115*, which was a rather recent update (December 2007).

(* to be more precise, since the betas which were r6? IIRC, from August 2007)

Youtube uses FlashPlayer 7. FP7's FLV format supports uh.. h263 and VP6. I can't remember which Youtube uses.

Dunno about non-h264 nico videos. h263 or VP6.
>>
>>10056951
Usually Sorenson Spark (H.263), though Flash player 8 had support for Truemotion VP6 and nicovideo supports that too. Most videos used Sorenson though, because VP6 isn't that common in encoding software.
>>
>>10056894
>>10056922

FLV supports Sorenson, VP6 and H.264, yes.

Additionally, Flash supports ".mp4"(/".mov") files directly, with H.264 video and AAC audio.

Yes, this means it can play directly anything encoded in this format, including anime releases encoded with x264 and muxed with mp4box.

Of course, forget about MKV and softsubs, though it supports rather decent softsubs with the mp4 syntax (that nobody uses yet).

Flash Player 7 only supported Spark.

Flash 6 introduced Spark, but couldn't be used pro progressive stuff like YouTube. Hence, all of these sites require at least 7, as you said.

VP6 support was introduced with Flash 8. YouTube does not use it. YouTube encodes everything with mencoder/ffmpeg, which don't (directly) support encoding to VP6 anyway. YouTube uses the old codec, at about 240kbps, 320x240; and mono 22050hz MP3 at 64kbps.

Flash 9 Update 3 introduced support for H.264, AAC, and the MOV/MP4 container. It was released back in December as r115.

I noticed that it apparently also supports he-aac for the audio.
>>
>>10057092
>>10057012
This is correct. But is Nicovideo streaming straight MP4 or h.264 in a FLV container now? The nicowiki looks ambiguous at this point due to non-closed parenthesis.

It looks like it's actually pure MP4 streaming, and NOT FLV enclosed h.264.

Yes, the support is excellent. HE-AACv2 (both Spectral Band Replication and Parametric Stereo). For the video, High profile is fully supported, and I think they even support the crazy stuff like High-10 or whathever it was called. It can also decode interlaced stuff. The decoder comes from MainConcept and is actually decent speed-wise, and it supports multi-threading.

tl;dr: 48kbps doesn't sound like shit and it doesn't choke (or crash) with maxed-x264 encoded stuff, unlike that Apple garbage (QuickTime and friends).

I'm not sure but I think the standard in nicovideo was to upload directly in the format you wanted, with no transcoding in the server.

So it's possible it accepts both FLVs and MP4s now.
>>
>>10057363
If you don't hit the correct format, you get a shitty low-res encode.

There are other upload options beside smilevideo though, like photozou.jp, but I think you get no or very bad audio in that case.

On closer inspection, even one of the Elevens asks that in the video (image related) but I think we have a case of Anime Cliché Number 4583

By the way, somebody should upload Hold Me (Tutu) and Euphoria (RahXephon) in HQ now. Anyone here have a premium account?
