What did /a/ think of Dennou Coil? I recently finished it but rarely see it mentioned.
One of the best. /a/ mourns for its loss, how insensitive of you to bring it up.
God Tier anime.
Too bad it laid the foundation for google glass and other NSA shit.
I really need to find time to finish this.
If it's held in such high regard then why is it never discussed? Was it just not that memorable? Personally I found a lot of the characters unlikeable until the very end but I'm glad I decided to finish it.
A sci-fi show which was consistently great and enjoyable throughout. Nicely carried a meaningful message in relation to technology as well which is actually pertinent to us now.
google glass and the like were always going to happen. They are part of the progression toward computer integration into human neural and physical systems.
>then why is it never discussed?
It aired many years ago and didn't really generate that many 'meme' tier gags which the fanbase could latch on to thus perpetuating threads and keeping a momentum. Notice that anime which still gets discussed nowadays despite airing however many years ago usually have some 'meme' to spur the thread which gets repeatedly brought up.
It's been discussed to death literally and no-one wants to cover old ground.
It's a damn solid show though and worthy of the awards it won.
The manga was better.
Stubbly lolis never became a thing
When everyone agrees on something, there isn't much point in debating it. In addition to the overall quality, there were not many things on which the audience was split in this show.
I never find the appeal in this show, outside of the setting it was pretty bland.
So it's worth reading then? I can't seem to find many scans.
Someone needs to make a game when our technology gets this advanced that is basically civilization, but the game map is each others faces.
Wish the creator would come back to anime or at least make a manga. In fact I'd rather he do manga.
Good but not exciting. People don't get worked up about it
The cast was pretty great, having a young teen social network and narrative largely divorced from the fact they were school kids was pretty cool. Even the 'filler' eps which fleshed out the world but didn't necessarily contribute to pushing the plot forward were great. On a technical level it was praiseworthy as well, smooth animation, a pleasant colour palette, fitting VAs etc.
it was a fun little series but there was nothing rage inducing/retarded in it to drum up discussion 7 years later on. beard episode still best episode.
>If it's held in such high regard then why is it never discussed?
Honestly, the show largely speaks for itself.
There's precious little that needs to be said about it except that "it is good and you should watch it."
Eleven years old
Started watching it a while ago, my download kept bugging up, funnily enough, when there was bugs in the show.
I really should get back around to watching it.
Sorry, >>100542489 is pretty much the one meme that this show actually DOES have.
Way back when it was airing somebody made a "What does /a/ think of Dennou Coil" thread and "the manga was better" was one of the first replies, the joke of course being that it was an anime original, and there was no manga.
not the guy you're responding too but maybe?
the manga was better was something that i remember being spammed in the Dennou Coil threads before there was even a manga to compare it too.
I looked it up and found some shoujo thing with only two chapters scanned so I wasn't sure.
Because it had an actual ending, there was nothing ambiguous and everything was eventually tied nicely together.
Unless someone decides to come and say something contrary just for the sake of being contrary, there are no points to debate. Threads aren't much fun when all you can say is "yes I agree".
Just go look in the threads of old shows. The only ones that pop up regularly are the ones that lend themselves to inane posts such as "first for striped pantsu", "shana is best grill" or the amazing "elf girl wat do". The girls just aren't cute enough in Dennou Coil to have lasting appeal.
The setting is really far and away the shining star of the series. Really what Dennou Coil does, and does really well, is take an already hypothesized piece of technology, and paints a picture of a world where its already become the norm.
So many pieces of speculative fiction, and speculative tech people in general, like to hype up their advancements and lay it on too think when trying to present it.
But Dennou Coil manages to do it in a way that so incredibly casual; children in the future play with AR the way children in the past play with toy cars or whatever. The fact that it manages to do it so nonchalantly though is where it's really brilliant.
Think about how Dennou Coil will look to children watching it ten or fifteen years from now. It could just be a regular cartoon about their everyday lives at that point.
No one talks about it because it was boring
Anyone has that cap still? It has been years since I last saw it.
>nuclear war in people's beards
That was the best episode ever.
Interfacial nuclear war waged by cyberbeards.
Simpsons did it and better
>Yasako looks like from Yumeiro pattisiere.
>Isako looks like female Detective Conan.
There was a thread like 14 hours ago
Dennou coil is..
It had good old fashioned onee-chan-otouto relations unlike this incest crap we have nowadays.
