I'm in the mood for a Kawamori trainwreck so I'm thinking of watching Aquarion Evol.
Do I need to watch Sousei no Aquarion before to understand Evol or is it not necessary?
Nah, you don't need it. Actually, not watching it might make EVOL better.
If you watch the first opening to Sousei no Aquarion, you don't need to watch it first.
Why bother watching this crap when you have the superior porn?
>Actually, not watching it might make EVOL better.
The MC is actually the reincarnation of a magical dog. His master has been tricking him and everyone to sacrifice themselves during 24,000 years but he gets away with it in the end. The main girl wins and green loses for all eternity.
EVOL is love backwards.
Watch Sousei so we can do it together, Anon. I never finished it because the subs stalled a bit.
The reminder threads that pop up tell me that we missed a big shit storm.
>EVOL is love backwards.
>green loses for all eternity.
Is that supposed to be a spoiler?
Without watching Sousei, the whole dog/Fudo thing just becomes kind of stupid. Those twists are way, way worse in my opinion if you watched the original. At least that's the impression I've always gotten.
Characterization: Everyone are plot devices, MC suffers hard from Designated Protagonist Syndrome.
Storyline: They just seem to forget what happened in earlier episodes. Best example: "Oh, Zessica, you're alive!"
The main heroine gets a disproportionate amount of attention and importance that not even Amata, the fucking MC, gets. She's central to a story she doesn't contribute absolutely nothing to. By making everything about her and not developing her character in a positive way it drags an unnecessarily stupid and long love triangle that makes every fucking episode psychically painful to watch.
Side characters gets more development than main ones. Some of the main character (special mention to Zessica) doesn't even have a backstory to round their character.
They have no clue of what they're doing, characters suddenly act to the plot demands regardless of the way they were established in the beginning. Special mention: Pod!Kagura.
The villain is stupidly overpowered. He can do anything he wants, he has no obstacles. If he was so pissed off he could have killed everyone in a single blow if he wanted to.
Drama and portrayal of relationship is stupid as fuck. Obviously if the girl you like wets her panties for a hunk you must scream her name a thousand times and crawl on the floor so she'll notice you! Also, never do anything to earn someone's trust and affection, everyone will love you regardless of how stupid your actions are, that always works! And if you have green hair you're fucked.
The right way to fight destiny is going along with it. By Amata Sora.
The dog thing is brought up solely for the justification of the villain's existence, aside from that it it doesn't serve any purpose. It makes S1 full of plot holes and nonsensical shit, and makes Apollonius AKA Fudo look like a total asshole.
If your parents are a piece of shit and abandon you, it's always your fault. Now get up and clean their mess.
I didn't watched Sousei and I thought it was 200 different levels of retarded. Remembering how they tried to make it look serious and dramatic makes it even more stupid.
> will never be canon
Zessica deserved it for falling in love with a guy like Amata.
Anyways, these teenager crushes are beyond pathetic. Hurr durr I will wait 12,000 years. Fuck off, most people get over unrequited love in months.
Why would you do this to yourself OP
For me, it was a way more mild reaction than the ones I see here. It was more along the lines of "Uh, okay? That's pretty stupid, but whatever". I mean it's still retarded without Sousei's context, it just doesn't also ruin another series in the process. I had way bigger issues with the show's second half than that plot twist.
Also, the whole Fudo thing seems to be a lot worse with people who watched Sousei.
>Zessica deserved it for falling in love with a guy like Amata.
Not her fault, it's the obligatory teenage love triangle, brought to you by Kawamori. Why the fuck anyone would fall in love with a dude who's obsessed with his mom?
Fudou was only reason not to drop Sousei
>Why the fuck anyone would fall in love with a dude who's obsessed with his mom?
Yeah, it also seemed stupid to me but I couldn't join in all the buttmad threads about it. I was way more mad about the writers shitting all over the characters and the retarded drama than the stupid plot twists.
Second half of EVOL was a bit of a letdown, but basically all of /a/'s hate was due to buttmad shipping rather than the show's actual flaws.
The two are related, though. People wouldn't have been as butthurt about Zessica not winning had Mikono not been such a shitty character. But Mikono's character was easily the biggest problem in the second half.
Looks like EVOL was your first touch to Kawamori's work
>Second half of EVOL was a bit of a letdown
>a bit of a letdown
You must be new to anime.
>but basically all of /a/'s hate was due to buttmad shipping rather than the show's actual flaws.
The waifu wars took a large part of the rage, but it's not like there were people that didn't notice the flaws, both in the romance (duh) and the plot/characters. The romance was stupid by itself, but it was even more stupid how characters turned into mere shadows of their former selves just because drama and plot convenience.
Exactly. You can't have a good romance if you don't have a good characterization. If Mikono wasn't such a bland cunt with barely any redeemable features, people wouldn't be so mad about her winning. The same how Amata was hated because the entirety of his character had Mikono as the center of his universe. If you don't develop characters as individuals they become shallow love interests, which everyone were by the end. Even Zessica didn't had a very good reason to sacrifice herself repeatedly for Amata if Amata himself never seemed to care about her or do anything for her, by the end her whole fucking character was to crawl for Amata's attention.
> a bit of a letdown
> a bit
There's no need for modesty here, anon.
>due to buttmad shipping
Due to retarded shipping as an indicator of ridiculous character development in the protagonist. Jin-Yunoha were loved every moment they were on air. Andy-Mix worked just fine, and there were no qualms even when "that" happened. But Amata had a few solid reasons to not go with Mikono, and just as many to choose Zessica. The last two episodes threw out all the character development which happened over the course of the series so First Girl law would be supported.
Another chart that's not relevant anymore
Aquarion badly suffered from the "side characters are better than the main ones" syndrome. I mean outside of an accessory for Zessica to win did anyone care about Amata?
No? He was a faggot. I don't care that he chose Mikono those two losers deserve each other I just hate how Zessica suffered for naught.
Tipsy, fuck yes.
If I see that fucking cat one more time.
Don't bother. It's beyond the point of bad = entertaining.
