Just finished this show, your thoughts?
I felt it was a pretty heavy hitting series that was way darker than I had expected. Pretty similar to psycho pass, but the world was much more fleshed out.
>>
Similar to Psycho-Pass in terms of bland characters, however the "villain" in Shinsekai Yori was actually good.
>>
>>100495453
>Pretty similar to psycho pass
That shit was garbage
>>
>>100495521
>"villain"
Queerat sympathiser detected.
>>
>>100495521
Yeah, I'd say the characters were not as well developed as their world, but still moved the story along well enough
>>
Psycho-Pass was much more interesting and had better pacing. The only real similarity between the shows is the forced 2deep4u commentary.
>>
>>100495660
Psycho-Pass was much more interesting
No, it was shit.
>>
>>100495660
If I recall though, psycho pass spent a good early half of the show with them pursuing a bunch of small time puppet criminals. I marathoned Shinsekai though, so perhaps I didn't feel the pacing problems as much, but it seemed okay apart from maybe the snow arc
>>
>>100495521
They are pretty similar now that I think about it. Strange that PP sold so well and SSY bombed terribly.
>>
>>100495660
>Psycho-Pass was much more interesting and had better pacing.
Thanks for the laugh
>>
>>100496223
>Strange that PP sold so well and SSY bombed terribly.
Fujoshi
>>
>>100496435

>implying SSY didn't have fujoshi hook as well
>>
>>100496435
SSYs characters were all bi and theres that infamous ep 8
>>
>>100495660
Both had shit pacing if you ask me.
>>
SSY bombed so hard because the story and the music/audio direction in general were the only things that were good. There was lots of QUALITY and people were always complaining about pacing and shit like that.
Don't get me wrong, I really liked it, but I feel like reading the novel would have been way better, especially considering that the world's much more fleshed out.
>>
>>100496494
>>100496555
No, fujoshi don't like actual gay characters they like ambiguously gay ones so they can ship
>>
Where the fuck are the BDs
>>
>>100495453
Another one of those shows that I wanted to like, but I got bored by a few episodes in, and put into the deep backlog.
>>
>>100495660
>forced 2deep4u commentary.
>Psycho-Pass was much more interesting

I'm guessing you liked it because because it looked pretty and had action scenes. Comparing the literary value of Psycho-Pass to SSY is like comparing Twilight to Shakespeare (not that SSY was a master piece of literature or comparable to Shakespeare, its just that the difference between the two is that large)
>>
I loved PP, so I decided to give this a try since people wouln't stop comparing them. What I got was a boring first episode, absolutely no cyberpunk elements (quite the contrary actually) and bland as fuck characters. It left such a bad taste in my mouth I didn't even bother with the rest
>>
It is good and almost qualifies for masterpiece after the last episode.

I wish there was more shows like this.

They both tried to tackle the same areas with their social commentary aspect, but I feel SSY pulled it off better than Psycho Pass.
>>
>>100496701

It isn't though, because shitsekai is full of super-bland characters, info-dumps as big reveals and hamfisted "morality lessons". It fails at being an entertaining show, too. Psycho Pass didn't.
>>
>>100496835
>no cyberpunk elements listed as a negative
Retard.
>>
>>100496701
A better comparison would be Psycho Pass to Ergo Proxy (something that's incredibly dumb but has an air of maturity that attracts retards) and SSY to Tehnolyxe (something that's slow and not for everyone but incredibly rewarding)
>>
>>100496701
>Comparing the literary value of Psycho-Pass to SSY is like comparing Twilight to Shakespeare (not that SSY was a master piece of literature or comparable to Shakespeare, its just that the difference between the two is that large)
I don't think so, it'd be more like comparing Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings. Neither show really has anything interesting to say that tons of sci-fi/dystopia works haven't already covered.
>>
>>100496947
>There are actually people out the that like Oberstein

Opinion discarded
>>
>>100496988
>Psycho Pass didn't.
Pfffahahahaahaahahaahahaahaahahaha
>>
>>100497091
>There are actually people out the that like
Your average Psycho Piss drinker
>>
Nothing against more people watching SSY but... is this a daily thread now?

Waiting for the obligatory "how did the fiend kill all of kiroumaru's army" comment
>>
>>100496988
I don't feel like SSY did too much info dumping actually. The show gives you bits and pieces before telling you outright, which was integral to the world building
>>
Does anyone know if the BDs fixed any of the unfortunate QUALITY issues?
>>
Great Art
Great animation
Great story
Great soundtrack
Great villain
Great maincharacters
>>
>>100497286
>Great art
>Great animation

I fucking love SSY but you're full of shit
>>
>>100496701

Both shows had shit stories, bad pacing, generic grey-morality lessons, and boring characters. At least Psycho-Pass had a funny gun that blew people up, plus pretty backgrounds.
>>
PP promised nothing other than urobuchi script work and designs by Akira Amano. We got what they promised and sometimes it was ridiculous. It was fun and easy to watch.

SSY was OH YEAH ARE YOU READY FOR DEEP SHIT LOOK HOW FUCKING DEEP THIS IS YEAH THAT'S A BOY KISSING A BOY and then the actual plot started happening I guess. SSY tried too fucking hard and also love triangles are trash writing
>>
>>100497367
Trolls really stopped trying nowadays
>>
>>100497193
Sorry, I've been out of /a/ for almost a year, but I finally took the time to watch this show yesterday and was curious as to what you guys thought.
On another note though, has there been anything worth watching of recent? I feel like this must have been one of the best shows of 2013, if not the best, but I'll be glad to check out other stuff to see otherwise
>>
>>100497367
>PP promised shit and we got shit so that made it good.
>>
>>100497459

Yeah, just look at your post.
>>
>>100497367

this, PP didn't try too hard to be deep (until some parts near the end), SSY was much more pretentious. Comparing PP to SSY is like comparing Kino no Tabi to Mushishi.
>>
>>100497367
LOL IN YOUR FACE SSY
>>
>All these people calling SSY 2deep4u

Holy shit, what was so pretentious about it? Everything in the story was carefully explained and very little was left up to interpretation. The ending wrapped up everything perfectly. Seriously, what was so "DEEP" about SSY? It seemed like a really interesting speculative story to me.
>>
>>100497510
I'm not saying it's god's gift to the world but like when I go to McDonald's I don't fucking expect a culinary masterpiece. I expect the same, shitty mcdouble I wanted when I walked in the door.
>>
>>100497588
It's trolls and butthurt PPfags
>>
>>100497558
>didn't try to be deep
>villain is literally 2deep4u, edgy, crawling in my skin
>>
>>100497772
It's like /a/ doesn't know what pretentious means
>>
>>100497802
it's like /a/ doesn't just throw around buzzwords to make their "arguments"
>>
Psycho-Pass is a pile of fucking shit compared to this show, holy shit OP.
>>
Lets all agree to never mention Psycho Pass in an SSY thread again.
>>
>>100498054
so does this happen often?
>>
>>100498104
This is first time
>>
>>100498260
ah okay
>>
People wouldn't hate on SSY as much if it wasn't the go-to anime for psuedo-intellectuals. Outside of /a/, SSY fans are unbearable faggots who think they deserve a trophy for watching an anime.
>>
>>100498594
>going outside of /a/
For what purpose?
>>
>>100498594
that's because so many shows these days are just moeblobs or mecha/fantasy action that anything with a vague hint of an underlying moral or philosophy is considered 2deep4u
>>
>>100498594
>>100499605
example: >>100497772
>>
>>100498594
>Outside of /a/
Why would you even do this? Of course people are going to be insufferable faggots out of /a/.
>>
>>100499739
>out of /a/
>
>>
Why do people bang on about psycho-pass being badly written? Is it just because people hate Urobutched?
>>
>>100498594
But it was much clever than most anime in the past years. Especially fucking Psycho-Pass, which was mediocre at best.
>>
>anything with somewhat challenging themes is "2DEEP4U"
>these are probably the same people that say that every anime has shit writing
>>
>>100500209
Because the world is incoherent, the characters have no emotions beside yelling, the setting is more than unbelievable and basically every major plotpoint comes out of nowhere.
>>
>>100500393
That's /a/ for you.
Even MAL has better threads about those animes.
No really, look it up. This board has the greatest shittaste of all of 4chan.
>>
>>100497344
>implying the art was bad
>implying the animation was shit too.
>>
>>100500755
I'll admit that there were a few moments of pretty spectacular animation but 85 percent of the time it was bland and badly drawn. Doesn't take away from the great story and amazing music.
>>
>>100495453
Nothing wowed me aside from the last episode. Cruel lack of budget everywhere. Amateurish directing from time to time. Great world building. Crap pacing. Fucking annoying characters suffering from drama overdose. Squealer is the hero we need but not the one we deserve. Strange fascination for the gay from the creators.
