Question to you guys.
Did you ever watch Sailor Moon back in the 90's?
I remember viewing it as a "girl's cartoon" when i was a kid, and i never really cared about it, but now when i think of it, it's like any anime ever.
So did you watch it?
Im thinking like, when it originally aired.
I really wanted to watch it but my dad wouldn't let me because it was a "girl's cartoon".
I'm a grill, I watched all the series in the 90s, but I hated it.
No, I watched it in the early 2000's.
Why would you watch a whole series if you hate it?
I tried once but It was just to stupid. Seams only fat ugly neckbeards like it.
I've watched a view episodes and realized it was utter garbage
No because it didn't air here.
I watched the SMC subs around 2003 when I got into anime.
Yes, I was 14 when it first aired. I jerked off every morning before school watching this show.
Yes, to be frank more boys watched it than girls.
Like once or twice, I think I liked it but it kind of had a stigma for being a girls show and being a child back then it wasn't cool to watch it.
Just noticed that the episodes of S that I have downloaded have the english dub.
>Usagi's voice is like really strange. I thought she was Luna going by the preview.
>Mako-chan sounds like Ash Ketchum.
>Rei and Minako sound alright I guess
>Ami is boring as I remember.
Never watched it cause the dub in my country was so terrible that I couldn't stand anything that was dubbed. Hell I even hated Dragon Ball and Ultraman thanks to the shit dub quality
When I was a kid I used to watch sakura cardcaptor and sailor moon, and I liked them a lot, homever, I was pretty embarrased about it and never told it to anyone
I think I still have a cardcaptor sakura movie in VHS
I'm a dude and I watched it in the 90s, it came on my local Fox station at like 5 in the morning. They showed about 3 seasons dubbed and then they showing reruns. I can't even watch it now because the dub is so fucking horrible.
Of course, it was aired in the time slot right before dragon ball z. My friend and I used to watch moon then dbz every day after school.
I was like 5 years old when shit aired in my country,I used to love watching the girls transform, just to see their bodies.
My sister had a VHS of it in english dub, it was pretty cool but I stopped myself from watching it because >girl's cartoon. I've loved girly shit since I was like 5 but never even accepted it until I was already 17 or 18. Why are kids so stupid?
I watched Sailor Moon, Ojamajo Doremi and Wedding Peach on German channel.
After rewatching them all Sailor Moon is alright but has huge quality changes between seasons, Wedding Peach is boring and Ojamajo is one of the best series ever made.
Doesn't prove anything, you could just have posted it in another browser/session.
I loved it. But my friends made fun of me.
...watch it subbed then?
It's not really the child's fault they are just pressured by other people, especially their parents
Didn't watch it much because Sailor Moon is for girls I can't be doin with this.
I did love Doremi though, watched that shit everyday.
Yeah, it's ridiculous how much people care about liking/doing "appropriate" things for your gender.
The sad part is that Sailor Moon is orders of magnitude more manly that the shows like K-on! we know and love today. If child me saw that future me was watching and enjoying that, he'd be livid.
I saw it on WB in the mornings. I knew it was a "girls show for girls", but it's the first daytime show I could think of that fetured girls with developed breasts. The Little Mermaid already introduced me to breasts so at this point I knew exactly why I was watching it.
In 2nd grade, I remember revealing to a few kids (not my best friends, just kids I sat with) that I watched it, and they were all "OOOH THAT SHOW WITH THE BOOBIES? HAHA ANON LIKES BOOBIES"
In retrospect, I'm not sure why that embarrassed me.
>Did you ever watch Sailor Moon back in the 90's?
I have never seen a single episode of SM, even though I've watched lots of other mahou shoujo shows.
same. thought it was a for girls never saw an episode. Now im actually interested in watching it but cant find any decent quality torrents of it subbed so gotta resort to streaming it..man this sucks
That was my first anime so of course I did. Not like I knew what the fuck anime is at the time, but I knew that this cartoon was japanese. I was something around 4 years old I think. I still hope to rewatch SM sometime.
It was on Fox kids in the UK and it ended after the arc where chibi moon grew up and turned evil or some shit. I fucking loved watching it at the time
it was the first anime I watched where I actually was aware it is a japanese cartoon. I could not get enough of it, I always hoped there are pantsu shots and nudity in the episode, Minako was my waifu
I've always had a really bizarre love/hate relationship with the series.
On one hand, it's simply the most epic thing on TV, you have a large cast of fascinating characters who you get to know and go though various sideplots, the ability to be 'girly' in a way the comes off as playful, sexy and intimate instead of obnoxious, an epic setup behind everything spanning large amounts of space and time, the potential for the lead to actually screw up and be tragically confronted with her faults, villains who can be shown sympathetically even when doing terrible things (though the dub screwed this up somewhat), a clever sense of irony and breathtaking atmosphere.
And yet, it somehow gets burdened with the stupidest monster of the week format to ever grace a cartoon and manages to be so downright shallow half the time that it completely shits all over all of its good qualities. Combine that with particular annoying ass characters who interrupt stuff at random and you get this most beautiful horror, a morning cartoon for girls that is capable of surpassing any other long running TV show I'd seen, and then makes you hate the fact that you are so fascinated by it.
As a kid, I ended up cursing the fact that I initially cared about it after the blocks it ran on simply re-ran the first syndicated episodes and it seemed like there would never be any actual substance to it once the Doom Tree fuckers took over from Beryl and all the princess stuff amounted to nothing. I never really got to follow the plot properly, as I didn't have the time to watch it as it aired before school and would be too embarrassed to tape it.
As an adult, I ended up returning to the series when I was learning Japanese and heard how different the Jap material was, and after watching it all, I regret nothing. I can only hope the reboot improves on its flaws.
Mars > Jupiter > Neptune > Moon > Mercury > Venus > Saturn > Uranus > Pluto > Chibimoon
Mars > Jupiter > Mercury > Uranus > Saturn > Pluto > Venus > Neptune > Moon > Chibi-usa
I never really got to see most of it until I was older. I didn't even have the "It's for girls" stigma. I just never got around to it.
On that note, I'm still stuck in SuperS. It's just really hard to get through
>And yet, it somehow gets burdened with the stupidest monster of the week format to ever grace a cartoon
Gotta sell those toys
Honestly, I find myself tossed up between Mars and Jupiter myself. Rei is just so perfect but then you have tomboy of the year all years right here
The answer is simple
Mars = Jupiter > rest
I wish Mars and Jupiter would give me a toss up
Yeah I did, though considered it a little girly. But also because you just knew everyone had a crush on one of them.
I also remember we rented out some VHS movies of it and downloaded games and shit when we first got the internet. All the shit that happens in later seasons was too off the wall for me back then.
Not really, I watched it more early 2000's when they aired it all the time on morning kids tv
Pretty sure I made it to the end, but I don't remember most of it. Had to re-watch the entire series when I got older to remember what happened.
Watched it all day erry day, OP. But then, the only other cartoons I'd experienced before was the Smurfs and Care Bears so can you blame me for wanting to watching something that amazing in comparison?
I watched it when I was younger, it was one of my favorite shows, but I can't recall too many other people at my school liking it. As far as I remember it was only me and another kid at my school. I don't really remember anything about the show though.
>It aired here in 1993, i was 8yo.
>Watched it since the first episode.
>First piece of media to ever make me cry.
>Cry again later because i was struggling with the idea that Sailor Moon couldn't be real.
>Have actual nightmares about the day when the show would eventually have a last episode.
>Record it all on VHS tapes for countless marathons.
>It was the show to make me realize all those favourite cartoons of mine with similar aesthetic feeling and funny looking letter, have always been Anime and all came from Japan.
>Turned me into a hopeless romantic.
>Can't wait for the new season.
>Why would you watch a whole series if you hate it?
Because I liked making fun of it while I watched it.
Now we like making fun of you, ironic right?
Wut? Anon, this is bullshit.
Well, I used to have the subbed version of VHS at the time it was imported.
I decided to watch the dub on it's airing and boy did the OP get Usagi's character completely wrong.
>never running from a real fight
>She is always there to defend,
>She is the one on whom we can depend
I loved the dubbed OP..
I studied in an all boys school, absolutely everybody watched it and SCC but no one was willing to admit it, it was just too much for a 7 year old's rep.
That's peer pressure and the fear of being judged in America for you.
Now look back on it, anyone I know practically obsesses over Sailor Moon.
I watched the dub.
Her name is Serena in my mind.
>I decided to watch the dub on it's airing and boy did the OP get Usagi's character completely wrong.
Umm, Serena is completely spot on and captures everything that makes her a quirky, flawed and interesting character.
I mean, you do get that the opening lyrics were completely phoned in and have nothing to do with how her character is portrayed in the actual show? I swear that so many people who criticise the dub don't bother watching the thing and assume it's all as stupid as its worst parts while ignoring all the dumb inconsistencies in the sub.
The guitar solo does make the whole thing worth it. There's no point in any of the original OPs that captures the epic aspects of the series as well.
I don't even remember how far I watched back when I saw it dubbed on TV. First I thought it was just the first season but upon rewatching I definitely remember Pluto and she isn't introduced until the end of R...
Sailor Moon is great for reaction images. Let's rate the senshi by how many funny faces they make, instead.
Because it was being aired in a local channel and i had no friends
Sailor Moon set me down the dark path of weeabooism that I tread now. I collected dolls and wall scrolls and VHS tapes and those light up lockets. That shit was a bitch to find before the internet was all proper like it is now.
Yes, all the time. It was a "girl cartoon" and this is 4chan, where we wish to be the little girl, so that was fine.
according to my parents it was my favourite show at one point
but I watched all of the anime shows. dbz, pokemon, digimon, yugioh, beyblade, etc.
Right, no one would watch through 200 long-ass episodes of something they hated only to make fun of it. Just admit that you liked it.
Yes. I still have some merchandise in boxes somewhere. I think I still have some VHS fansubs of random episodes too.
I wanted to watch it when I was a kid but I was afraid what my older brother might think of me watching it.
I missed out big time on my childhood.
I was this as well. The dolls, card game, scepter that lit up, videos, hell my mom even made me a dress based on usagi's. When I got older I watched stars and read the manga. I can't bear to watch the english dub now [except for select episodes and the movies] but I am really excite for the movie.
For all it's faults, it was the only girl anime I could watch as a kid [that showed on statrions we actually got] and it was the only anime my mom would watch with me. /blog/
*new series I mean
My family didn't have a TV until 2000.
If I remember correctly, there was a huge gap between R finishing and S airing in America. The old voice actor probably quit and they had to find a sound-alike. Unfortunately, this was super hard as the first actress had a very distinctive voice, so they just went with some old lady.
For some reason the dub version I watched didn't censor the relationship between Uranus and Neptune, but still made Zoisite female...
I didn't think too much of it back than. I've started rewatching and now and realize what a wonderful show it is.
It was my guilty pleasure when I was younger. I wouldn't be caught dead watching it but I touched my pp to it all the time.
Now I have a skirt fetish.
And one for red heels too, I hope.
Sailor Moon was my first anime.
My friends were watching DBZ while I watched Sailor Moon. Sailor Mercury was my waifu before I knew what a waifu was (my taste shifted her to Mars to Jupiter as time went on.) I took over the TV whenever it came on. And I played with dolls.
I started the faggotry real early. My dad was surprisingly cool with it for some reason.
I watched it after school every day.
I remember watching it dubbed, but I can't remember anything specific about it. Other than some masked faggot.
The only anime I watched as a kid was Pokemon. I always considered Sailor Moon to be the girl's equivalent to it.
I watched both Sailor Moon and Pokémon as they were on every morning during summer break.
I watched a few eps in the 90s but dismissed it as a girls show (though I did fantasise about the girls way back then).
I watched the first season a few years ago and thought it wasn't terrible but I really don't have the patience for 90s monster of the week type shows anymore so I gave up watching anymore.
>I think I liked it but it kind of had a stigma for being a girls show
That's because it was a girls show
Yes, that's why they look so amazed.
I wanted to but 6am was a bad time for TV so I only saw a few episodes.
Finally watched it all about 5 years ago and don't see what's so girly about it aside from the characters being girls and pic related. It's just pretty silly most of the time.
The series was OK until that little brat showed up.
I watched a bit from time to time and pretended I was Venus because I liked Astrology and she represented my sun sign's planet. My sister was Mars I think and my cousin was Moon.
Was your sister hot?
This is the one contest where Moon wins.
Consequently also winning the best girl one.
You do make a good point...
I wouldn't be here if it weren't for Sailor Moon. I loved it before I had any idea what anime was.
Best Sailor Moon lesibans. Uranus/Neptune fags come at me.
I know that feel. SuperS was when the lost Ikuhara, and man it shows. It's especially harsh because you go right from S, the pinnacle of the series, to the fucking Chibimoon Show. Worse still, it mostly ignores the most interesting group of characters (Outers) right after they were introduced.
It gets a little better when the Amazoness Quartet shows up, if you can make it that far.
Maybe I should quit before that shit then. She's bad enough in R...
Watched German dubs when it aired in television back then. Well, I was a kid back then, and didn't even knew the term anime.
As for "girls' cartoon", having two older sisters and playing with them and their toys, it came naturally that I also would watch girly stuff.
I definitely disagree with this. I went into SuperS expecting it to be horrible, but was surprised to find that the episodes were really well produced and that it initially does a ton of fun things with all the characters and picks up certain sub-plots that weren't developed since the first season.
You just have the accept that the villains are crazy pickup artists with no intricate plot.
Guess I will just keep watching and see for myself.
When i was a kid it was shit.
As an adult i really hope the new season is good.
No chance, the character design will be the standard modern moeblob look.
Watched it, taped it.
It wasn't a "girls" thing, it was just cool if anyone wanted to watch it.
Which they did.
I went into debt buying stuff and only over a year ago did I finish paying off that credit card.
You went into debt buying Sailor Moon stuff?
You bought sailor moon merch in the 90's and in doing so you went into so much debt that it took almost 20 years to pay it off?
KILL IT WITH FIRE!
Anyone have a link to the album preview that was posted the other day? Archive is down.
I watched it when I could. I liked to pretend I was Sailor Mars.
im a gboy
So has that remake happened yet?
No and it's taking forever.
I would love this.
>Waifuing Mercury and Venus
No. It's been delayed again, to July.
It's supposed to be a true adaptation of the manga, why wouldn't they use the manga designs?
Watched the first 3 seasons in the 90s, would always change the channel when I heard someone moving toward the room. Just now getting SuperS and the movies off my backlog.
Religiously, along with Card Captor Sakura, and Dragon Ball.
Dragon Ball and Sailor Moon were on early on the weekdays, and Sakura, on WB weekends.
Shit was pretty cash.
u wot m8?
She and Usagi had the best faces.
I'm excited for more fanart.
Dic dub was fun to watch.
But it's the entire frontpage and every thread up to page 8
Who said I watch those shows or like their design? I hate how modern anime looks.
Only show I can think of that has as many reaction faces is Kamichama Karin.
Nichijou has some, but doesn't churn them out the same way old mahou shoujo do.
I want her to stick that up my bum
Because they're old, so they'll have to be re-adapted to a modern look, apparently...
Great for you, but I don't care either way, I'd just love to see the reaction.
At least that's how everyone thinks, because to them it's impossible to enjoy older designs.
I'm convinced you guys have these threads just to show off Sailor Moon reaction images
More like OP starts a discussion and the only people that bump it tend to have giant folders of reaction images.
Join the fun!
/a/ just loves to share, just not what you ask them to share.
Nigga, I have a Sailor Moon folder for just such occasions
That's the spirit!
There are so many good ones.
Watched it. Was called a fag by everyone in my family but my dad. No regrets.
Of course. It's still my favorite show.
What's with the Mars love? She was not very outstanding and her design is just long, black hair.
Huh? Ikuhara directed SuperS. Director & Series Comp changed at Stars.
Anon. You're missing the point. She's hot.
I prefer my women to be dripping wet
What if we got them both together? Would it be steamy?
Who let you in here?
>her design is just long, black hair
Nigga, there are two fucking blondes on this show. TWO. Mars' long, silky black hair, combined with the killer legs and red high heels, can't be called anything but outstanding.
Nope. We even made fun of the kid that collected Sailor Moon trading cards.
Reminder that Haruna and Usagi's Mom are the only real choices
>/a/ will never play the Sailor Moon RPG
This show is really lewd.
The original manga designs are gabage, and there's nothing said about the adaptation being a 'true' version of the manga, just that it won't be the old anime.
wait until Ikuhara takes control
I heard it assumes you watched up to a certain point in the anime. I couldn't stomach much of the first season, so I never played the RPG.
I *did* play the arcade beat 'em up, though. It was within the past year, actually. Pic related; this was on the wall of their back room (I assume it's a party room, but they had machines in there as well. Didn't look like I was allowed in, though).
Cake is always the best.
I downloaded that with an emulator a few years ago. I never saw it when I was a kid and actually owned a Nintendo, but I liked the concept because I liked the anime. I kept getting lost because everything looks the same though. Is it actually worth picking it back up?
Fool. I speak of /tg/ matters and making your own magical girl and being rescued by your very own knight.
Haruna is an awesomely underrated character. She's even great in the dub. I want her to get some actual subplot in the new show.
Her design plus the fact that she was a bitch.
I was legitimately sad when she stopped showing up. She was a fun character that showed girls never really stop being goofy.
Didn't watch it. Read a lot of the doujins though.
Ooooohhhh. That sounds cool. Damn I keep saying I need to start lurking /tg/ but I never actually do it. I haven't played any "real" RPGs in too long.
I thought you were talking about pic related. That's my first save state. Apparently I didn't get very far because there are no others. Looks cute though. I'll probably try playing again just to get re-hyped for the new series.
I found out where that gif came from, do I win anything?
I remember that. I didn't grind or know where to buy items and got royally fucked by Mercury's boss.
Yes! Kind of like Yukari from Azumanga who's another great character.
I treat it as kind of sexual symbol more than anything. I've never seen it though, too long of a series.
I read a doujin a while ago where they were laughing at some teen girl for having sailor moon dvds and how it was crap for little girls. For some reason that turned me on.
Showed it non-non-biyori in a similar light. Again the same thoughts came up into my head.
I remember a band with all female members that I cannot remember the name of, they had some album with a pink cover and their bandcamp wallpaper was sailor moon. I liked that album more than I should have, wish I could remember it.
Point is it makes me think about teenage weeaboo girls that like sailor moon. Is this a weird fetish?
A slap to the face
>got royally fucked by Mercury's boss
That's the most bullshit part of the game, it just takes a long time to do that part because of the insane levelling curve the game has.
Exactly. They're great extensions of being true to yourself, which is a big theme in the Sailor Moon serieses. It showed there's all kinds of girls out there and you should just embrace whatever kind you are.
I've been working on grinding my party all the way to level 99 in FF9. I think I can handle a grindy game.
It was my first anime at 5 years old when it came on in the mornings
>Point is it makes me think about teenage weeaboo girls that like sailor moon. Is this a weird fetish?
Not at all. Girls who like Sailor Moon tend to be hotter and less weeb then most of the anime fanbase, while still being open minded, yet aware that they are into something that would be shunned by the actual mainstream.
Yep. Watched everything except Stars because what little I watched was fucking awful.
It's just that every other fight up to that point is faceroll easy THEN SUDDENLY you get rolled by your evil twin.
I thought it was one of those fights you were supposed to lose, that's how bad it was.
Well thats good.
Mercury is my waifu anyway.
Thanks for the warning
True, but I heard they kept the same actors for a few of them, Makoto in particular.
Yes, the dub very much is. Not that there's anything wrong with watching a girl's show unless its about plastic horsemonsters
The subbed version's much more enjoyable to a wider audience.
Visit the jewelry store for equipment
The dub actress had twins and had to quit. The new VA might not have sucked but she was stupidly trying to sound like the old VA and came off as retarded
I bought it.
Just to have a copy.
I have to play it on an emulator though.
I saw all 200 episodes and I liked it a lot. Of course the manga was much more on the serious side of things and they did change the ending quite a bit.
However, the show did something the manga never did much of, which was to flesh out some of the other sailors in filler episodes. For instance, how they showed the other scouts actually having lives outside of being around Moon or when they had the opportunity to actually have love interests and hobbies.
I guess, I always felt the manga was way WAY too centered around Sailor Moon and her lovelife and it was quite a detriment to all the other scouts (with the exception of Venous because of her manga).
Anyway, I hope that while the new show will be closer to the source material that she takes the opportunity to make the other sailors more well rounded characters who can have significant others and well developed personal lives.
And BTW Jupiter is best scoute.
>except Stars because what little I watched was fucking awful.
Jupiter is best senshi.
>The subbed version's much more enjoyable to a wider audience.
I actually think the sub is frequently every bit as girly. Having Moon Prism Power! instead of, Makeup! and so on makes the stock footage feel less, generically shoujo dubbed. The most girly-girl aspects of the dub are in the opening lyrics and Sailor Says segments, the stuff that occurs in the show proper is rarely worse then the original, it's just there is a much larger number of stupid characters which were far more intelligent in Japanese.
Maybe that's it.
My recollection of the dub is just fuzzy as all hell.
I watched the dub as a kid but rewatching it now I found that I prefer the sub which you might not expect given the power of nostalgia. I don't miss Sailor Says and I really don't miss the OP, even though it will still always be stuck in my head... It took me a little while to get used to Usagi's voice but there's no way I could go back to Serena now that it's grown on me.
I think it might be a good idea to refresh your memory then.
Feel free to watch the original episode after.
I'm a guy but my older sisters were obsessed with it, so I would watch it sometimes too. Don't remember much though, too young.
My sister used to watch it, and it was on before pokemon so I'd usually see the last 10 minutes.
I think she also bought all the dvds recently as well.
Oh god I forgot about girl Zoisite.
Makoto still has the raspy Ash Ketchum thing going on.
Okay, Serena doesn't sound so fucking strange in the old dub. But holy fuck the scene changes. Terrible.
Mamoru is an idiot for not tapping that
Mamoru only had it in his head for Dumpling Head snatch. Even if he was amnesiac.
Except for those weeks that Beryl brainwashed and probably raped him
Yeah that's probably true.
That way she's still ripe for the picking.
Although, it might not be rape if you completely rewrite someone's personality.
I was really shocked when I read the manga and they actually fucked.
>they actually fucked.
I don't remember this.
There wasn't explicit penetration on screen or anything. Lots of implications
Like he will ever attempt to tap that again Usagi has him on a leash
Well yea they have to bring Chibiusa to the world
Yeah, nothing explicit but I'm sure he stuck his penis in Usagi a few times.
No, I thought it was fucking stupid.
The theme song was grating, the characters were unbearable, and nothing was even arousing even to my pubertal mind.
Imagine how much time she spent drawing bubbles.
>So did you watch it?
Yeah, I watched it. Back then we used to get subtitled bootleg VHS tapes and then trade them around to our friends so we could all watch it, that's before they dubbed it, so I already knew Haruka and Michiru were gay and not 'cousins'. Was a big scandal when I let the other girls in middle school who only watched the dub know about that particular fact.
And we felt no shame because we were all girls
They're screentones, which are essentially patterned, transparent stickers that you cut to size.
My mom used to rent it for me at Blockbuster whenever I was sick.
>Oh god I forgot about girl Zoisite.
I fucking love girl Zoisite.
>Okay, Serena doesn't sound so fucking strange in the old dub.
That because in this episode, she's being voiced by Tracey Moore, who was the first actress/director the dub had. She ended up hating the higher ups at DiC and got dumped from the roll. They ended up replacing her with really screwy sounding VAs.
I'd be more okay with girl Zoisite if there was unhealthy amounts of r34 of "her".
I usually love homolust but Zoisite just seems to work better as a woman than a man. Maybe it's just because I saw the dub first as a kid but to this day, I still have to force myself to remember that she's actually a he.
Stars is actually the best season once it gets rolling.
Having an evil lady lieutenant worked well and mixed things up just a little
This is because Chibiusa goes away for a large chunk of it right?
Sailor Mercury was one of the first cartoon girls I ever beat my meat raw to.
I can't bring myself to fap to Jupiter. It just feels dirty.
I really don't get why mercury was considered so hot.
Mars and Venus maybe, but Mercury is just so plain.
no fapping, only pure loving.
Now her, on the other hand, she seems like she'd be down for breaking some furniture.
I believe it was the first anime that I set eyes upon. I only vaguely really recall a single shot though. I rewatched it a few years ago and found it to be absolute shit.
Venus seems practically insane.
In the best way
Sure did, OP. When I played with my friends I always called out first that I'd be Tuxedo Mask, so my (male) friends all had to play either one of the girls, or random villains.
I've no basis for truth, but it's entirely likely that Yukari is based off Haruna.
Years ago, Azuma made a pair of Sailor Moon doujinshi, and she used some of the jokes later in Azumanga Daioh.
That's because Venus IS insane. When she's next to Usagi, the effect multiplies.
>Your face when
>Venus hotel doujins
>not being Nephrite
>not being seduced by goodness by one of your friends offering you loving and parfait
Why am I posting Archie?
Oh Jughead. When will you stop being so wrong, yet so right?
Looks like they got those parfaits after all.
I only watched it because it came on around the same time as Dragonball and other shows I wanted to see.
It helped that she was easily the most competent villain in the dub.
Was Malachite? He was a murder machine.
Actually, yes. During the run of Stars, I actually went to the local Japanese grocer where the rented out videotapes of each week's episode (usually had about a 1-2 week delay due to shipping/customs times) and watched this, along with Slayers Next, Martian Successor Nadesico, and GeGeGe no Kitaro all on the same tape. All in raw format, obviously, so the only translations available were from people who posted translated scripts on online forums.
I was wondering what you were building up to but I guess Nephrite didn't die, he just got stuck in a really old american comic series.
He lost his edge when his boyfriend was killed and when Venus showed up. I forget which was first.
Saturn and Chibimoon figuarts when
Venus first. They happened back to back.
Who murdered who exactly?
Saturn is probably last.
Chibimoon never. She's awful.
But I want them together.
Shitty twin pack.
I bet that's all the remaining senshi that aren't the inners will get. Pluto gets paired with Tuxedo Mask.
Nah. They know S rangers have a huge following
He was easily the most powerful boss, but came in after Usagi was finishing up the crystal and achieving full power.
Of course, the Injustice Senshi did a better job than any of the lieutenants anyway
Which is why they'll put them together.
They're lesbians anyway, it'd work perfectly to keep them inseperable. And make a cool $90 per sale.
Of course and unlike the massive number of sexually insecure anons above me I loved every minute of it.
Thank fuck Naru wound up with anyone but Umino. Shame she had to change her name and move to another country. Must be witness protection.
I remember being teased by my family for watching it, but I already knew it was something glorious even though I didn't even know it was anime.
I thought current /a/ didn't have as much shitposting as /v/.
Time to leave again.
good leave, good riddence
I'm surprised the thread has lasted this long.
I watched the hell out of Sailor Moon when I was 13. This was when it was on the USA Action Extreme Team at like 8 in the morning. I set my VCR to record it every day. I got pissed as hell when the series cut off after like 60 eps in the middle of the Black Moon arc. I finally got to finish the entire series a few years ago subbed.
Venus would have been better if they hadn't turned her into such an Usagi clone
I don't mind this delay since I haven't finished rewatching the series yet.
i first started watching it dubbed to german.
but the channel i was watching stopped airing them around the circus episodes
after some time pokemon and sailor moon started airing in my native contry, so i watched the first seson before they stopped airing it here.
tried to watch it in subbed some years ago and couldent get past 10 episodes, feelt too repetitive
I heard the opening years ago and couldn't stop laughing when I heard "Moonstein."
I've played it, didn't get very far though. Will return to it after I've finished the anime.
the feel when this made me able to speak german when everyone else was trying to learn english
This is what I imagined when I heard the German Sailor Moon opening.
Chibi-Usa is my favorite Sailor Moon, she kawaii
Is this bitch serious?
fisheye a best trap
funny thing is i dont thing they dubbed the song when i watched, because i remember the song and i rembember i enjoyed it
looked up the german dubbed song...its not what i heard as a kid..
Zoisite was a trap in several meanings of the word.
A reverse reverse trap if you will...
Was that before 1999? Cartoon Network had the rest of R by that time.
i watched it every single day with my sisters
in fact it's the first anime i ever watched
I enjoyed seeing Usagi cry.
lmao I wasn't even born till '95!!!!!xD
But seriously, it was right after Dragonball, I'd watch the dubbed OP which I can sing to this day, and then get bored by the 1st scene and drop it every week.
What did she see?
no bully me or my preferences in Sailor Moons, thank you
I want to watch it so badly but it's like a million episodes.
Maybe Ami doesn't wear any underwear...
I have an image somewhere of Jupiters POV in that image. Gimme a bit to hunt it down.
This is what I think about your preferences.
>Maybe Ami doesn't wear any underwear...
They all wear leotards underneath
Jupiter a best
Way to spoil my fun, anon.
>implying leotards aren't more fun
Do you even fetish
Poor Mamoru, got so shafted in the original anime. Why did the writers HATE HIM SO MUCH? (It was like he wasn't even dating Usagi half the time, which how they treated each other) He is really likeable and useful and basically a main character along with Usagi most of the time in the manga.
I bet that's one of Naoko's biggest must haves for the new anime, keep Mamoru's role important. I'm pretty sure he was her favorite character back in the day.
He was only really well done in the first season. Even in SuperS, when he had a HUGE ROLE in the manga (and Ikuhara was gone by then) he was just fodder.
He didn't even get his Golden Crystal.
>tower of gray
>in a silent way
I never even watched the show, man
I'm a fat, hairy mexican nearing wizardhood
doujins like this make it so easy to self-insert
>That lingering stare
We actually received TV Tokyo on satellite back in the 90s (in bad quality tho) and were able to watch Stars.
I like garters...
Mercury is the worst senshi in my book. After the first season she only talks about studying and cram school. Boring as hell.
Pictured: Ami talking about studies again.
I watched a couple of episodes as a kid and I didn´t liked.
Years later I watched Utena and I found it awesome and after some research realized that its director was the same guy behind Sailor Moon anime.
Now I´m trying to find a proper torrent of the whole original series, fuck nowadays Toei
That's a front.
>fuck nowadays Toei
>there's original DVDs on torrents
I should get around to watching Utena one of these days...
That barely looks like Mercury. How about keeping her hair short but putting it in a different style.
>that's a front
I really want them to explain more about the relationship between Mamoru and Pluto that happened in the old moon kingdom.
They only briefly touched on it in the manga and you never really find out what happened or how far they went with each other. I can't even remember if it was one sided or not.
you what m8
>not liking Chibimoon
I haven't watched it yet. I'm planning to do so before the summer anime (if that is a thing), but all the fansubs have shit encodes. Why do they all have fucked up colours?
>Why do they all have fucked up colours?
Two reasons really
1) S1 has god awful transfer to begin with
2) Somehow people still think denoising film grain is at all a good idea, clueless fuckers
The SMC releases are painfully pink, but you get used to them after a while.
But it's Sailor Moon. Why is it the case that only SMC has bothered to do the whole series? You'd think somebody would have come along and done a better job.
She stops being a little bitch when she gets in her teen years anon and you have to love the age switch episode and the dark lady saga. Those were some of the best episodes.
Yeah there is some shit that eludes to them having something of a romantic relationship way in the past but that it never went anywhere.
I wouldn't mind a spin off series of pic related.
Pluto is disappointingly underrated. She was hot.
No, she's still a brat.
If the new anime is set in our time the cool gadgets the senshi get will have to be quite advanced since most people have a smart phone these days. Being able to communicate with each other anywhere like with these wristwatch devices isn't anything special anymore.
But we already had a modernization.
>Pluto is disappointingly underrated
That's because she's not really involved in shit. Guardians that stand around for all eternity ensuring reality doesn't paradox itself don't really have a chance to be pretty and kiss all the boys.
Doesn't look like Mercury at all.
Same with Mercury's computer.
Yeah, but what would they even need? They used their magic powers to get shit done and/or teleport. I can't imagine tech playing a bigger role other than giving them the means to communicate faster.
Why is there so much filler in the anime?
Because it's Power Rangers for girls.
You keep using that word
Compared to the manga, the pacing is ridiculous.
Also I only used the word once.
While it does flesh out the characters, you could cut swaths out and still tell the same story.
As far as I remember, Sailor Moon aired before DBZ so it was natural I'd catch glimpses of it. Eventually me and my DBZ buddies decided to extend DBZ time a little earlier and watch Sailor Moon.
Sure, in retrospect it was kind of terrible, but we were kids, we didn't give a shit. There were monsters and cute girls fighting them.
It's not about telling the story.
It's about weekly viewership and selling toys.
Enjoy your episodic hero show.
Muh nigga, check my post >>100472628
You are confirmed for having an awesome childhood
Nonsense! All magical girl need cutting edge technology gadgets to play with.
Better than the fast pace of the manga. It just skips from one part to the next without any chance for character development in-between.
Like what? Like sexy gadgets?
I guess, except that nothing actually develops except for more episodes.
I made fun of it for being a girl's cartoon
but I watched in secret
Kinda interesting, it proves I was into that weird stuff even as a a kid.
Sailor Moon was the anime that made me feel shame enough to hide the fact that I watched it. I really loved the show though, even now I'm a huge sucker for shoujo tropes.
Dunno. Mind reading shit, cloaking devices, that sort of stuff.
Only one of the most mainstream anime series ever.
Such weak and shameful behavior. I bet you'd turn your back on a friend.
>Jupiter reveals she's a futa
where I come from it was very weird for 8-10 year old boys to like sailor moon...
Like the sort of "friends" who only hang out with you in secret but then disown you because other people don't like you and approval means more to them than your friendship.
That doesn't change the fact that you are not one on whom we can depend.
That's supposed to be a sad smile.
No, I mean
are the kinds of "friends" who would do that, and they would turn on a friend for the reasons I stated.
Yup. Loved it. Imported the Japanese character books, had the UFO dolls, bought my little sister the toys; when they changed Usagi's English voice actor I flipped my shit and started downloading subbed episodes one at a time every night on my dailup connection. [ 130MB Real Media episodes from the translators FTP server ]
I've never watched a dub since.
I enjoyed the shit out of shows like this when I was a kid. This and Cardcaptor Sakura were some of my favourite shows growing up.
I still had to pretend I didn't though in order to earn that cool kid cred. Looking back on it, I'm sure the dubs were probably complete garbage.
>I still had to pretend I didn't though in order to earn that cool kid cred.
I never had this problem. One time. One time someone called me gay for liking Sailor Moon. I told him, "Well if it's gay to like a show where girls fight monsters in tiny miniskirts then I don't want to be straight."
He started watching Sailor Moon with me. I don't he even liked it, it just suddenly turned his homophobia back on him.
>130MB Real Media episodes from the translators FTP server
I just said I was into it for the miniskirts but I knew in my heart that wasn't true.
You still have them!!?
they're in a stack of CDs somewhere around here
Ah, fuck - that's some nostalgia right there.
It's always a front. Book worms are always freaks. ALWAYS.
Found it. I guess these aren't the same ones though, they're only 27mb each.
Deprived minds find themselves occupied with subjects more than they should be. Hell, Venus is probably less depraved than Ami.
I might be remembering wrong. I have a terrible memory.
If you have the entire show in 27mb episodes you should make a torrent somewhere, because I don't know why.
27 sounds more reasonable for dial up. I remember Ranma movies only being ~ 200
Mercury pls go
No on believes you're anything but a loser that will die alone.
But Venus already has the freak part covered.
I just remember being really really confused by all the strange symbols on the posters and signs. I couldn't fathom a writing system other than English at the time.
Also think I stopped watching it coz it was a 'girls cartoon'.
Oh shit. Thank you. I don't know why but this made my day.
I really wish there was more to Ami than "MUST STUDY", but nothing I've seen of her so far suggests that.
Yes, i did, but it was labeled as a "girls cartoon" so you had to be careful not to expose yourself, otherwise you were called a faggot. You may say "but anon you could just say fuck it, what the heck do i care about other people thinking" but you are talking about the 90's i didnt even know what puberty was.
>can't read English
I was around 13 when it first aired, and it had cute girls in it, so yeah. Not that I told anybody about it. It was also the first show I figured out was "anime".
I felt less weird about it when I entered high school and saw that other students liked it too. I still hid my own power level though.
She knows exactly what she's doing.
Hmm. Ami the master troll?
She had that boyfriend who could see into the future.
>She had that boyfriend
yea, for like a week
He came back in one of the later episodes to do a thing
yeah guess what isn't the focus of her time on the show.
This gif looks like one I just made recently.
Speed's the same, cuts off right when Jupiter opens her mouth.
Only difference is that its only the reaction to her extreme way to breaking the door down instead of the entire door breaking scene.
I'm down with that.
Yeah, he came back because the plot tried to bring him back.
And he's in the game too for a little bit.
Who was also into studying more than anything else... So your point is?
Who was then never seen again.
I never watched it because I didn't want my family to judge me. The funny thing is that everyone else seemed too, even the casuals. Bummer.
I finally got around to it in 2012 because I was watching it with a friend that grew up with it.
Many laughs were had at the hilarious dub
Ikuhara only directed Sailor Moon R though.
In the manga, it was a one way thing. Pluto was in love with him in the future version. When she dies she tells King Endymion how she felt and that was it. I'm pretty sure there was nothing more implied later when she was reincarnated.
Manga moves too quickly between plot points, anime has too much filler shit. Not sure which is worse...
Because it was made at the same time as the manga.
Moon has it rough.
Story of my life.
Doesn't Nico have a limit on the number of people who can watch one stream at the same time? I've only watched a few but I think I remember people complaining about getting kicked out and that having a premium account guarantees you'll have a spot.
There's nothing to explain, Pluto had the hots for him, but Mamoru was loyal to his waifu.
It does. I imagine the streams will be fairly packed considering it's SM.
Pluto and Queen Beryl both loved Mamoru.
Oh well. She shares a house with Haruka and Michiru, maybe she can get in on that.
Hah, Japanese websites love to make really basic feature premium, don't they?
I hope they aren't too true to the manga. The manga seriously felt like every scout was merely there to serve to support Usagi. All of this "for the moon princess" talk really irked me like they're secret service agents who are there just to take a bullet for her and not live their own lives.
>like they're secret service agents who are there just to take a bullet for her and not live their own lives.
Wasn't the basically the finale of season one?
But then they came back to life anyway so it ended up not mattering. In fact that seems to happen quite a bit in the series.
The reality would be that girls are just competitive for the role of moon princess, and if it comes out into the open that one girl thinks of others as merely their support to make her moon princess who gets to have the best guy, there's gonna be lots of cat fights. Yeah, this is just an anime and not supposed to be realistic, but the fatalism with the whole notion that the other scouts are merely there to live only for the moon princess is what actually scares me as if to say their own lives don't matter at all.
It's going to be just like ManaMana PreCure.
Ideally they would keep the more developed characterisation of the other characters while getting rid of the horrible Monster of the Week formula.
Does fapping to the transformation sequences while neglecting all the rest of the episode count as watching?
Hell, I remember I almost pulled apart my dick once.
THAT's the only thing you had available to use as porn? Just admit you watched it, anon.
But before that point they are developed as characters with their own lives, personalities and interests, unlike in the manga.
>they're secret service agents who are there just to take a bullet for her
That's literally what they are though. That's what their purpose was back during the Moon Kingdom times. They were to protect and watch over Princess Serenity (Venus bitched her out all the time for going to visit the Earth)
That's the whole theme of pretty much the entire manga for the rest of the scouts sans Usagi and Chibiusa. They come to terms that they are fine living their lives just for Usagi, they don't care about love lives, but they still have their own little dreams (Makoto wanting to own a flowershop, Rei wanting to take over the shrine)
Tha'ts the only thing I didn't like about the 90s anime, that they made ALL of them, boy crazy as if that added more to their characters.
but it is a "girls cartoon"
its aimed at girls
>Sailor Moon thread
Fuck, I didn't think it'd last this long. I watched bits and pieces of the dub. Didn't like it. Did research on it years ago. DiC/Cloverway fucked up immensely. At some points I think they outdid 4Kids. And I've wanted to do a fandub of Sailor Moon for ages now.
That's pretty easy to ignore, especially with how naturally shipping Ami and Makoto comes.
If this thread reaches bump limit I'll resist fapping for an entire week.
>only a week
>not doing Nofap 2014.
Weakling. I'm going strong so far.
People still do Nofap 20xx? I thought that was just a meme.
If this thread reaches bump I'll fap to nothing but black dog for a week
Most of them give in and lose early on, but I will will prevail!
So, does anyone think we will actually get the new anime this summer or will it be delayed again?
Why doesn't her last name follow the same pattern as the other Sailors?
Because she's too moe.
All senshi are best senshi.
If it comes out it's going to be utter shit. On the other hand, if it shows any sign of actually being good it's going to be cancelled.
>not helping this thread reach bump limit
IN THE NAME OF MARS, THIS THREAD WILL GET 500 REPLIES!
For what purpose?
I read about Sailormoon in that one issue of Protoculture Addicts and bought the first dub tape at Toys R Us. The dub was all I could find because I hadn't figured out how to contact fansub distros on my own yet. I always had to get my fansubs from somebody I knew. Then eventually I bought the DVD sets and tried to forget about the dub.
For great justice!
This is what I see when I watch the dub.
I started watching it because it reminded me of Jem (transforming girl, animooted by nips). It had a different art style than other cartoons and I thought Mercury and Jupiter were hot (to an 8 year old's refined tastes).
fuck that moon clone is hot
weren't nearly all anime for girls back then? Like that sad series with a girl getting abused in an orphanage or Heidi or that boring shit with a family in the industrial area and countless more.
Atleast in Germany we didn't really get any anime for boys besides Robin Hood and Saber Rider.
This is the show responsible for making me a weeaboo, resulting in me posting in Sailor Moon threads on /a/ at 3 in the morning.
Anime should be banned.
Yes, yes he is.
I'll never forgive Galaxia. She can put back all the star seeds and then go kill herself.
No, there was Dragonball, Yuuyuu Hakusho, City Hunter, Genji Tsuushin Agedama, Ghost Sweeper Mikami, Tenchi Muyou!, all those OVAs like Burn Up, Ah! Megami sama...
He turned really shitty in R when his whole purpose in the show was to run into Usagi and make her cry by telling her to sod off because he doesn't like her anymore.
Now there's a mangaka who can draw women.
>implying Makoto would cheat on Ami
Would Umino look as good without his glasses as that diamond Princess did?
theres a pixiv image of this but from the other angle, can someone find and post it?
His eyes would have the spirals. All this time it wasn't the glasses.
It was posted here:
But the princess wore the exact same glasses and she was pretty without 'em.
Why don't they make PGSM R? That's the part not finished. The anime and manga covered everything else.
That whole plot point made NO SENSE with King Endymion fucking around giving him weird dreams.
And it just ended up being an "lol test." Why would you do that to your past self and especially actively let him hurt your past wife? It totally negated the whole plot of their relationship to have Mamoru act like a dick over some stupid dreams.
PGSM is over and done. Usagi was pregnant with Chibusa already during the Final Act special episode anyway, so R season doesn't happen in PGSM-verse.
The only reason Ami is even in the show is because they needed a character to remind the kids to study.
Umino smokes crack
That looks like a perfectly loving and happy relationship to me.
(And guro is hot.)
Hell yeah, I watched in 6th grade in the mornings along with Samurai Pizza Cats.
And then they suddenly make up out of nowhere when Usagi has the same dream...
There's always someone threatening Earth in the manga and we still don't know anything about Queen Serenity. Is that Usagi or her past life mother?
The way Mamoru treated her (and generally the way he reacted to the situation) was stupid but Usagi making up with/forgiving him the way she did didn't really surprise me at all considering how borderline-obsessed with the guy she was.
Didn't Venus die? How can you have an R season with no V?
I'm not surprised she forgave him so easily, my problem with it is how they just suddenly reunited again one episode. It was too rushed.
She got better
Have you seen Special Act? When Usagi restored the Earth, it brought back Minako because she was no longer Venus (until they got the sword and then that was only temporary). All they have to do is find a way to make them their past selves again.
>Hanging on to Usagi's pigtail
That bitch, trying to steal Chibi-Chibi's shtick!
Chibi-chibi? Is there an even worse abomination than Chibi-usa?
Is that Araki?
Annnd thread has hit bump limit. Good night, /a/.
Have you watched Sailor Moon?
No, Chibi-Chibi's awesome.
She helped Moon out when Aluminum Siren knocked her moon stick out of her hands by leapfrogging over her.
Not that far into it, no. I've watched it until the end of S.
Great job guys now I can't fap for a week.
Oh, I see. Yes there's an even tinier one. She's cool though.
You'd better keep your promise.
I can't wait until these are all figuarts
This is some old shit.
Planet Pluto forever
Ami Pgsm >>>> Ami Pssm
>Sailor Moon thread
>no pic of Usagi's mind break in sight
I sporadically watched the Swedish dub. I couldn't have my parents or my little brother finding out after all.
I've got one.
I think they're about the same.
Sailor Quartet anime never.
Look for the one with the filename "mfw my friends die near me".
One of these days I need to get around actually watching the damn thing.
Galaxia is hot.
Yaten was best Starlight.
Wow, I never noticed how Matsumoto-esque she is in her "good" form before now.
kawaii desu ne
>tfw I'll never meet a tall girl and ask her to dance
When the fuck is it coming out?
This is a surprise. Normally Sailor Moon threads -- even remake news -- slip quietly off the board with only a handful of replies.
A terrible feel, that feel.
July, they're saying now,
Agh, I hate this pairing more then anything. The fact that Naoko came up with something so disgustingly stupid and that it occurs in more canon then any other set of relationships makes me want to vomit.
I agree with you. I save those images mostly because I'm fascinated anyone could think Zoisite and Kunzite are anything but flaming homos.
Why what's wrong with it?
And honestly, only the Venus x Kunzite was hinted to in the actual comic. The others were just made up for that one color spread.
