fuck the moe and fluff, lets have a 90's anime thread.
Post anything you think is classic, must-see, underrepresented and worth a watch.
just finished watching pic related, was ridiculous and cheesy and awesome. I'd give it a solid 7/10. Awesome characters and a good enough story to carry it along along with some of the coolest ship designs I've seen in an anime.
I'm sorry, but /a/ doesn't watch anime that came from 90's besides Cowboy Bebop and Eva.
Outlaw Star was shit.
Outlaw Star was great. Only other 90's anime that comes to mind other than the obvious is GTO.
Outlaw Star was actually great, I started watching it because it was aired right before Bebop where I lived years ago. I ended watching it on its own right. It stands even now as one of my all-time favorites, and THE favorite space cowboys genre Anime, actually having moved Bebop to a second place.
Basically, OP, you put the bar so high that you turned your thread into an Outlaw Star thread.
And last episode had me actually cheering at the screen. Did you, too?
Why was the 90's so edgy?
Outlaw Star isnt edgy at all
Such an overrated show.
Fuck off and take your shit taste with you.
That nose seems pretty edgy to me. Not escaflowne edgy though, that was pretty much the standard.
Here is another must see underrepresented classic.
This thread is going to be smaller than you think. Pretty much everything worth watching has been covered by /a/s recommendation image.
That and the fact that people old enough to have seen any of these don't discuss them, and the one young enough to not have seen them obviously can't discuss them.
The only 90s anime that is frequently discussed on /a/ is Evangelion because "muh 2 deep 4 u".
Outlaw Star was a pretty solid show. Not too long and not too short. Didn't really lose track of what it intended to be. A breath of fresh air in an era where writers didn't know how to finish a show without doing something completely retarded or edgy.
Would be cool if 4chan had a retro anime board.
And how americans missed most 90s anime that were actually good like Slayers, Blue Seed, Orphen, Those Who Hunt Elves, Soul Hunter, etc.
>Mfw it would be full of people claiming TTGL, Death Note ,Fruits Basket etc are retro because it was babbies first anime for them
>old enough to have seen any of these don't discuss them
The problem with being old enough is - we realize how ridiculous they were.
I tried rewatching GTO recently, I couldn't, it was too lame.
People do change with age. You just learn to accept the changes and move on to other modes of entertainment.
What a great way to start your thread, OP.
Lurk the fuck more.
It would be enough if the rest of /a/ didn't shitpost "manime"/'90s/"antimoe" threads on sight (see what happens to every single Cowboy Bebop thread).
my vote is in for a /ra/ board.
Also Excel Saga
Stuff you also need to watch
We rarely have those.
No one with half a brain is saying that and every time they do say it they get destroyed by facts.
If the 90s had a lot of action shows (most of them quite objectively shit) they also had a lot of fanservice shit.
Nostalgia crap honestly.
MUH PHALIC SYMBOL
Remember when anime had humans fighting Mecha?
TTGL had that one scene with Lordgenome punching the shit out of Lagann. I can't think of any other instances off the top of my head, though.
True 90s here
More 90s awesomeness
Escaflowne has magical mecha so it's only natural a magical human can fight them.
Made your bed
dat Aisha clan-clan
Please. Stay a while and listen.
Loved this during the 90s
This didn't age well at all
The best in the Slayers franchise.
Best kids show
He was so incredibly awesome. They should make a prequel of his younger days.
OVA and movies are way better.
LNs > Movies / OVAs > NEXT > Slayers > Try / Revolution / Evolution-R
In my opinion.
OVAs and movies were shit. All of them.
>not about danger in Mexico
My Little Sister Can't be This Dropped.
HI GUYS REMEMBER ME?!
Why just 90's specificaly? Let's go even further.
Basically anything that Miyazaki had done pre-2000 is the best thing you can imagine. he didn't rush crap and was full of cutting edge ideas.
Nausicaa manga >>>> Nausicaa movie
>OVAs and movies were shit
Which puts the TV shows at uber shit level.
>original manga > anime adaptation
No shit Sherlock.
>tfw the shittiest sister won the Carrot
He should have Chocolate and his brother, and left that whack bitch Tira on the curb where she belonged.
Outlaw Star is a show that build a nice little universe and had nothing to show for it with the characters already being the most powerful group and everyone else barely able to do anything.
That single part where one of the assassins just destroys the entire group only comes one and never is that feeling brought again as it becomes an easy sailing.
And then the ending is a fucking mess.
Other than Jean and the first few episodes, there isn't anything that spectacular in Outlaw Star. I'd honestly not even recommend this show to people because it just turns out to be overall meh the whole way.
Outlaw Star? Isn't that just a ripoff of Firefly?
The fact that you can't even get the main character's name right suggests you didn't watch it, or were blatantly too stupid for it. Either way, you have nothing of value to opine.
Holy shit, OP. My nostalgia is fucking diamonds right now.
>no mention of Rayearth and it's best girl
Anybody seen Tenshi no Tamago? It's 80's but notable. And retards on /a/ dare to say that all anime has over shitty 3d movies is moe. What a cancer.
I mean, what the hell. This movie has a rape innudendo and more christian symbolism than Eva.
Slayer was great. Lina is my waifu
The show is just incredibly shallow. Chaarcter are nothing but walking piles of cliches with little to no substance.
>no mention of Rayearth and it's best girl
Pic fiexed anon. Fuu is love!
At least, has Aisha.
90's also had moe.
What now faggot?
Too bad her speech was obnoxious.
Outlaw Star was just too short. They built the plot up to the point where it seemed like they had to get through an elite force of baddies, one by one. Nope, they killed them all off in one episode then ended it.
No, you fuck off with your cancer face that you just shoehorn into fucking everything like magic horses and use whenever the fuck ever.
Go home kid.
Did you try Naruto? You will like it.
Your waifu should have been born a boy with those flat titties.
>not liking it
What's wrong with you? GTO is golden.
but i am 21 and a big boy
Not him, but the animu was lacking compared to the mango.
What's the 90s version of Boku no Pico?
Ah Chacha, I saw it when I was a kid.
This is very, very sad.
/mu/ here. We love Lain.
Beside the same face, is Better than Saint Seiya?
What a great way to respond to the thread, anon.
Lurk the fuck more.
You probably love Ergo Proxy and Higashi no Eden there in /mu/ too, with all them Oasis and Radioheads flying around. Don't you?
same mangaka, its called something else.
ergo proxy is cool man
old femanon here, the 90s were all about rumiko takahashi stuff for me. so ...
Video Girl AI.
Sexy as fuck, even if the manga is much better.
Outlaw Star was great. Other 90s favorites(nostalgia~) of mine include Blue Gender, Bebop, Rurouni Kenshin, Tenchi Universe (Dat OP), Trigun, and Yuyu Hakusho.
>fuck the moe and fluff
Okay dude, if you want a 90s thread, why can't you just say "90s anime thread" without the rest of that crap?
Anyway, pic related. I'm sure me and one other guy on /m/ has seen it. Best OST of the 90s
And then the guy made Code Geass.
>fuck the moe and fluff, lets have a 90's anime thread.
What a horrible way to start one of these threads.
90's were moe as fuck artstyle and marketing just changed is all..
Nah. plenty of people on /m/ have seen Ryvius, it's just not monster-of-the-week enough for em. That show did melodrama right.
Escaflowne had a pretty god-tier soundtrack aswell. Just got finished rewatching it myself.
wtf is she wearing
Are we actually going to discuss any of these shows or are we just image dumping?
Fun fact: Miyazaki HAD to make a manga to get financed to make the movie. So the manga is actually an adaption.
>Not liking one of the best space operas ever
>Having taste this bad
>Best Space Opera
Not even close man. Outlaw Star had incredible world building and setting but the characters were all kinda flat. Space Opera's are character driven.
So what? That didn't happen immediately, and many of us like Code Geass too. It also has a pretty good OST as well.
I liked the music but here are folks who don't like the use of some hip-hop in Infinite Ryvius. The orchestral stuff is better.
>No moe in the 90's
laughing retro anime girls.jpg
>and many of us like Code Geass too
Are you hiding behind others?
>>and many of us like Code Geass too
>Are you hiding behind others?
Just giving you some perspective.
