Recently done manga that I felt like sharing with /a/. If you'd rather have a dl link: https://mega.co.nz/#!J0FyQJbT!Dh4W1FkDd3OiOjhTPv39Y3f1Vv4SW6t16Pj_K3Ui8NU
Cheers for translating it. It does remind me that I haven't read Karakuri Circus or Ushio to Tora still. Although I suppose Karakuri never did get fully translated.
Thanks. Karakuri has some really... weird twists later on that I wasn't fond of.
Springald is good, I have the localized volume.
It was my first Fujita, Karakuri will be the second one when it will hit the comic store one of these months. I love Fujita's art.
If you know italian you can buy that edition, it's coming out soon, I'm already excited.
Hox, why haven't you tried rallying /a/ to mass email moot to change post timers?
What's the time limit now? A minute? It's not so bad, is it?
It should be 30 secs, /co/ has 30 seconds. So should /a/.
As a fan of Ping Pong, what do you think of the announcement?
I really can't muster the strength to dump anything anymore. I feel like I need to buy a pass, but seems like a waste.
I just found out thanks to you. Motherfucking Yuasa on a Matsumoto Taiyou manga? Could it get any better?
I had a feeling you didn't know. Holy fuck indeed.
That being said, I do have some hesitations. The manga itself is only 4 volumes long. I'm worried it might feel dragged out for a 12 or 13 episode series. The live-action movie (which was as good as a live-action adaptation a manga could get, really) felt fine telling the story in just 2 hours, for instance.
Still, I guess I'll trust Yuasa for now. His style is pretty much perfect for any Matsumoto stuff. I don't know why people always mention Yuasa for Asano Inio stuff like Punpun.
>ANN comments on the ping pong announcement
It's my fault for reading, really, but fuck. Almost as bad as youtube comments.
I think I've always thought that there isn't really anyone who could really do Asano justice. I guess I'd kind of a imagine a patchwork live action. In a way, Mind Game touches on it.
I was surprised that /a/ was even capable of making a 100+ post thread for it.
The problem with Asano is that he does way too many boring black panels as a lazy way to inject narrative. I'd be okay with it if he did it for just one or two manga, but he's used it in just about every series he's written. In any case, Asano has a rather wordy style because of it, which goes against Yuasa, whose style is much more subtle along the same line as Matsumoto Taiyou.
Despite what anyone says about /a/, it's still the best place on the internet to talk about anime/manga.
Then again, Tatami Galaxy did turn out alright, and that was a pretty wordy material that Yuasa had to adapt. Still, I'm just saying he's not "made" for it.
I don't know, a black screen with minutes of dialogue would be pretty amusing.
Oh my god, Springald got translated. Thanks, Hox.
By SHAFT/Shinbo of course.
I never knew the Black Museum was a real thing before translating this manga. Too bad it's closed to the general public, however.
These extra-notes section by Jinka Katsuo were interesting but I quite disliked translating it because his writing style was all over the place. It was more like reading a blog post than something by an actual author. Didn't feel professional at all.
I can't say I love reading actual walls of text in the middle of a manga. They can be pretty interesting, but it's a little jarring.
Yeah, I know what you mean. Personally, if I were the guest author, I would have had a short preface section where I briefly summarize Victorian society unto which urban legends like Spring-Heeled Jack were born and the early state of British Met police, and then an afterword section where I talk about the historical suspect for Spring-Heeled Jack.
That Fujita and his love for mechanic dolls.
Thanks a bunch, Hox.
>ANN comments on the ping pong announcement
Oh my god
Damn you Hox for making me curious.
I'm so sorry, anon.
I wonder if Kouta Hirano was influenced by Fujita.
I kind of have to wonder how well Ping Pong is going to sell. It was pretty popular in its heyday wasn't it? Regardless, look at even Arakawa. Well it does have ping pong, so that's got to count for something.
I think its kinda evident, for the shading and male characters at least
It's not gonna sell. I'm 95% sure. The manga, though good, wasn't a "popular" manga by any means, as is the rest of Matsumoto Taiyou's library. Ping Pong's a subtle character-study and those kinds of stories never sell well. It's not your average sports manga full of TEAMWORK or TRAINING ARCS where becoming #1 or going to the Koushien is what matters.
Parasyte, however, might have a chance to fare somewhat decently if the adaptation is good.
sure it have potential, but non one is going to bet on it.
too risky, too damn old
I've wondered that as well. Early Hirano art was more similar linework to Fujita's, as they were both very "scrappy." However, Hirano's since developed distinctively defined bold lines and he makes far heavier use of screentones for shading whereas Fujita doesn't do as much shading, and just gets by with doing compact straight lines bunched together most of the time. So it's hard to call them similar by their current styles.
Yeah, I wouldn't bet on it either, but I think it has better chances of selling well.
I'm honestly pretty curious as to how it's going to stack up. It would be great if they could be bold with it. Deviating from the manga would be interesting.
By it, I mean Parasyte.
I'm somewhat worried about Parasite. I wish they would reveal the staff soon. It might tun out to be another Blade of the Immortal.
This Fujita guy needs more recognition though. nobody ever talks about his stuff; for example, I completely forgot his existence until thirthy minutes ago. I guess we are in coffin a shouler Kuro territory...
Oh god, you've mentioned the BotI anime. Now you've jinxed it for sure!
>nobody ever talks about his stuff
That's not exactly true. He comes up a bunch of time when people are looking for translations, although that's really about it.
>dem eyelashes and hair rolls
What, got a problem with having a buttbuddy?
I'm sure it will. probably they're just making the animation to fullfill author-editor deals or something, so they're focused in burning the little money possible with total disregard for the quality
>Continue on, rabid mongrel.
This guy is amazing.
Well he only has like... Ushio to Tora for a fully translated work in English. And hardly anybody on /a/ reads old shounen. He'd be a lot more popular if anybody ever picked up Moonlight Act. Come on /a/, I know there's gotta be a translator somewhere around here that wouldn't mind picking it up!
>I know there's gotta be a translator somewhere
you are really a dick
Too busy with other stuff to pick up a long project, sorry.
>Welcome to the exposition exposition exposition.
>You must be exposition exposition. I'm the exposition lady.
>So, this is the exposition exposition place?
fucking drop it!
you will only do my bidding from now on
TRANSLATE ONLY WHAT I LIKE
>Coffin a shoulder Kuro
Man, I love that artist's work on Yggdra Union. I keep forgetting to read his manga
There's even a tumblr page or something about it.
grabbed on the last Kuro thread
I hate him already
He barely appears at all. Like, 5 pages total, or something like that.
>everyone have a mouthful of perfect teeth
Thanks for the link, even if I'm not a fan of Tumblr
Didn't know /a/ had Kuro threads, I mostly know Kiduyuki for his work on STING games
Hey hox, when will we get punpun?
That was the first one I saw in, say, four years.
Trying to get it done by end of the month, though I am rather busy these days.
>As for Punpun, the poll seems to be pretty clear. Full volume on January 31. Don't bother me until then about it.
He flew with Gundam!
Hmm, the poll's gotten rather close... Might have to change plans if it does overturn.
Don't tell me...
With you abstaining yourself, you should have added a proper maybe option.
>Yuasa on a Matsumoto Taiyou manga
A match made in heaven.
shekelpasses are indispensable
Why? He seems charming.
Just read this, and the epilogue/side-story was boring and unnecessary. Otherwise it's good.
I thought it was kind of cute. But yeah, it didn't really need it.
museum curator is maximum waifu tier
Really? I quite enjoyed the side-story. Perhaps a tad long, but still a fun read.
I love those face.
We got more of The Count. It was great.
Technically a Marquess.
Hox has so much on his plate already, cut him some slack heh.
I don't know why you are excited about this ping pong manga. I've got to say, its amazing how tying a well known name to a boring as hell looking Ping Pong manga can make people excited. If all you care are about realistic sports, why not just watch the sports themselves? Its far more suspenseful then if you already know who will win (typically the main character loses to the rival at the beginning, needs to get stronger, beats the "Chumps" along the way before his rival, etc). At least if it has super powers or good character designs it'll make it a bit more interesting along the way.
>If all you care are about realistic sports, why not just watch the sports themselves?
Please, no more ANN comments.
That doesn't even make sense as a thought, it's just the expression of your taste.
Later I'm gonna go home, grab my copy of Springald and reread it.
I remembet asking you to ttanslate this way back
Yeah, it usually takes me quite a long while to get to people's requests, since my to-translate list's rather long.
HOX YOU WONDERFUL MAN
I REMEMBER YOU SAYIG YOU'D DO THIS IF YOU EVER HAD TIME LIKE FUCKING YEARS AGO
Junji Ito face...
why it looks so good evenif its so messy
It's called style.
I knew it was him...
I did sort of imply it by typesetting all but one of Rockenfield's lines with another font (lafayette). The original, of course, has no such font variations.
You begin entertaining the thought when you get part of the story only Walter knew.
No, you're just 14. She is annoying and unnecessary.
One more page after this and I'm done. There's the side-story after this, but I'm kind of tired and would like to play some vidya so I'll stop it at here. I hope you guys enjoyed the story and wasn't bothered by my rather feeble attempt at Victorian-era English and cockney slang.
Whoa maximum edge there kiddo
And this is the point where an episodic series called "Black Museum" got approved
Fujita says in the afterword he'd like to revisit the Black Museum sometime in the future.
And so, he was happily back to ripping young women's clothes, grabbing their tits and mentally scarring them for life as they thought they were gonna get raped on the street by a maniac.
What edge? Just jerk off before you read something.
Welp, had this downloaded, guess I'll read through it right now. Also downloaded Ping Pong to read it before the anime, I'm pretty hyped for it. Thanks Hoxxy.
If you have the prequel oneshot downloaded as well, read it after you read the regular series.
No. He's going around doing that to men. He dun't want no girl anymore.
This fucking nigga there
are all brits like this? I may move in bongland soon, and I'm building up a lot of expectations reading this
What the fuck is this pong ping thing everyone is talking about I don't see anything
And the manga is very good, thank for dumping it
Go read it.
Also the Jojo soundtrack goes well with reading it
Its like a indoor version of tennis, where you play with small rackets on a table instead than a whole field
The title isn't great to search on the internet
Very funny, faggot
Yeah, it is a rather generic title.
It's pretty different than Tennis tho.
lies. I never won a match at it, just like tennis
therefore, they are the same.
Thank you op. I'v enjoyed Black Museum a lot, and I am quite thankfull you took some time to share it.
Have a fantastic day.
I see what people were saying about his and Hirano's styles being similar, especially that top right face.
