Which children's books would you watch if they had an anime?
Dark Lord of Darkholm > Crestomancy chronicles.
I don't think I'd watch a Lemony Snicket anime.
It would need a western style for it to work.
I own all the hardback copies along with the Unauthorized Autobiography. I had a boner for the series when I was younger.
I actually would enjoy to watch an anime based off of Lemony Snicket's book "series of unfortunate events"
The premise sounds so stupid that I haven't been able to read the books. It's kind of odd since I've read almost all her other work.
I'd totally watch A Series of Unfortunate Events as long as it was loyal to Snicket's books.
She wrote the one about the HMS Victory right?
That one was good, and Dark Lord was one of the best. I didn't like Crestomacy quite as much because it seemed aimed at a younger audience.
Diana Wynne Jones
Talking about Crestomancy and The Dark Lord of Derkholm.
It would make a lovely short series.
Sorry, I thought you had replied to the guy above you. I'm retarded apparently.
The His Dark Materials trilogy would probably adapt really well.
The Little Prince: The Movie
directed by Yuasa
I know there is a series from the 70s, is it worth watching?
wind in the willows
>She wrote the one about the HMS Victory right?
If she did I didn't read it, or if I read it I forgot. Crestomany, Dalemark, and Howl are the ones that stick out in my mind.
Would pick up in a heartbeat
Animated by Shaft?
>It would need a western style for it to work.
Really? I can already see a SHAFT adaptation going full shinbo, with poyoyon rock designs.
Fuck that book
Boy in Striped Pajamas
The movie adaptions were a goddamn disaster, but as an animation it might actually be working.
His Dark Materials or Hornblower.
His Dark Materials or The Chronicles of Narnia
>The Chronicles of Narnia
Fuck that; it is everything wrong with Christianity and I have hated it since they made me read it in grade school.
Chronicles of Prydain.
Not necessarily a childrens book but Lord of the Rings, as standard a reply as that is.
Its better than Christianity. In Narnia, Jesus is a motherfucking lion that smacks the shit out of things. I loved it as a kid.
Ms.Honey was my childhood waifu
Is this drawn by that guy who made the comic about the blonde feral boy raised into a girl?
man I'm good
>Lord of the Rings
Fuck yes. And after it has aired we get a prequel anime of the Silmarillion.
And then the Lion says 'Give up all this amazing wealth, land, and prestige you have won and go back to hell in war torn Europe.' Yes, Jesus, we obey.
Should have fucked killed that mother fucker and spammed sac cor.
Where The Wild Things Are, animated by the guys who did Mononoke or maybe even SHAFT + inu Curry.
Dr. Seuss by SHAFT
This, except the mouse is a loli
>live long lives as king and queens
>get to reset it and go back to being kids
I thought that was neat. Two lives for the price of one. Imagine all that life experience in the bodies of children.
Anyways, they get to go back so its all good.
I'm pretty sure SHAFT + Inu Curry should be the ones to animate over half of western children's books. One guy said that they were almost as if out of a fairy tale which I agree completely
Doctor Seuss animated by SHAFT. But they would be have to be fifteen minutes an episode. Especially if they can pull off the scenery porn that they tend to do so well. Just imagine the interior in any of the houses in the books done by SHAFT. It will be glorious.
fuck you captcha
Percy Jackson & The Olympians.
And unlike the movies, no nigger Grover and it's more accurate to the mythos the series is based on.
>mfw fire-breathing hydra
I can see Dr Seuss being more of a Yuasa thing.
Buncha goddamn younguns in here.
That series by Alexander Lloyd, the one that was about Welsh legend, where Tartan wanderer was one of the titles. Also a String in the Harp and The Theif trilogy.
Babar the Elephant
The japanese devils could draw all kind of parallels between the westernization of the elephant kingdom and the westernization of Japan during the Meiji period and after the second world war. Yes, I know the japanese were involved in creating the existing cartoon.
>SHAFT does the Harry Potter series
Man, will I see a whole lot of fucking head tilts from Malfoy.
IYGMM is waaaay better than IYGMC.
No it's not! It teaches mindless obedience.
I'd be okay with this. Until Japan being Japan kicks in, and Bilbo ends up being a girl.
Then I'd still be okay with it.
My fucking nigga. Nix makes some of the best worlds, even if he isn't a very prolific writer. Slade's Children would make for a good movie/OVA series.
I want Goosebumps done by P.A. Works.
>cute little girl
>surrounded by 14 burly dorfs
I can see the doujins from here.
Imagine this one animated.
Fuck all his formulaic sports trilogys.
>5 kids climbing mount everest and something goes wrong and they have to improvize
>5 kids scuba diving and something goes wrong and they find pirate treasure
There were like 10 series he did like that, fuck that.
>that fem Bilbo
The Foundling's Tale would be wonderful. It's practically made for japan. You've got Europe the kuudere, Threnody the tsun, and Rossamund the beta mc.
Jesus fucking Christ Japan is trying to kill me.
>that bit n the Hobbit when Bilbo escapes the Goblin Caves and has to squeeze through the gap in the door, ripping off all his waistcoat buttons in the process
>female Bilbo doing this
Stop it boner. Stop it.
I want to be not ok with this.
Safira can turn into a loli.
Nice trips. And I never bothered reading those, because sports fiction is generally pretty shitty. Especially children's sports fiction.
Look me in the face and tell me that Keys to the Kingdom wouldn't make a fun anime.
50 Shades of Grey
No. No no no. The first book was Episode IV but in high-fantasy form, and it just went downwards from there.
The ending of the fourth was so fucking stupid.
You are thinking of a completely different dude Gordon Korman.
Wait, what? I checked his bibliography, and I can't seem to find what you're looking for.
His Dark Materials.
Imagine it now
>lightly tsun and energetic Lyra
>Pan being a fucking cute polecat most of the time
>Will being badass
>Iorek Byrnison and that fuckawesome polarbear fight
>The implied sex that Lyra and Will have at the end
>getting a footjob from FemBillbo
>getting hair all over your dick
>she licks it off
Embrace it, anon.
Garth Nix wrote The Seventh Tower series, The Keys to the Kingdom series, and the Old Kingdom series. The man is a god.
Percy Jackson, anyone?
Little Red Riding Hood got a nice adaptation
Animorphs would be pretty cool animated.
Just no 3DCG transformation sequences.
As long as it followed the book and kept it's art style, I'd watch the fuck out of Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs.
Brains Base would do wonders with it.
The 3D movie done by Hollywood was so fucking terrible it was the first movie, ever, that was literally so terrible I couldn't finish it.
CS Lewis's Hornblower series, but with everyone as lolis. Lolis in British naval combat.
And then they go and kill God
I know that, I was telling the dude that he was thinking of the wrong author.
Read the apocrypha. Jesus is a little kid and smacks the shit out of a town by cursing it to death.
The little engine that could.
Oh wait that's already the plot of 2/3 of all anime
Why is Britain so fucking based when it comes to giving us God tier fantasy novels?
Fucking A. They should have animated it from the get-go instead of making a live-action series that they clearly didn't have the budget for, it could've been a hit.
I'd give a kidney for anything Discworld related.
My only concern would be how well the off-beat Terry Pratchett humor translates into Japanese.
I'd watch the Silmarillion.
To see it come to life would be magical.
Too bad it's too "lore-y" to be made into a movie, because I enjoyed that book the most.
Oh wait it already happened
I would kill for a moe tombs of Atuan adaptions though.
Mortal Engines would make for an amazing series.
Hester is mai waifu
Everything that Neil Gaiman wrote, especially the one that was a collab with Terry Pratchet.
also the movie was fun and all but Howl should've been an OAV series that adhered to the book's plot more closely, and kept the humor in.
Anything made by T. A. Barron. The Lost Years of Merlin was fantastic to read as a child. It's what got me into Arthurian legend.
How are these children's books
Silmarillion anime would work quite well as its probably the most "high fantasy" out of Tolkeins works.
I liked it more then Lord of the Rings, but not quite as much as The Hobbit. That said it very well could be made into a movie with all the money they are raking in from those things.
>because I enjoyed that book the most.
How? It's like reading some religious text.
DUNE, of course the sequels weren't childrens books but the first one was.
Keep in mind that most people on this site are autistic and have been reading Dan Simmons since the cradle.
>can't even spell the main dragon's name correctly
Thus is the average intelligence of an Eragon fan.
Coraline anime would be the shit. Protagonists are a loli and a cat already, no need to change anything.
I'd love to see The Golden Compass done by the Seirei no Moribito people.
I read Dune when I was 9, took all the wrong messages from it, and totally fucked myself up until well into my 20s. It is not a children's book.
You mean sequel. Everything after that is not canon.
A lot of these other series would be tough to do but Discworld you can just see it as an anime when you read it.
the seventh tower, because fighting with light would be baller as shit animated
Saga of Darren Shan or the Demonata series would be nicely animated.
Hell, SoDS has a manga adaption.
>I'd love to see The Golden Compass
You mean The Northern Lights?
Boku no Pico already exists.
The Goosebumps novels.
Admittedly, it wouldn't be as scary animated compared to the movies, but them being animated would be pretty sweet
Ax was moe as fuck.
Why has no one said
Each book could be its own series of 12 episodes and there are a million of them
You telling me you didn't like the Shota sex wars? Because THAT shit would make a good anime.
KyoAni could make this, it'd be a huge hit with the fujoshi audience that Free! gained them.
Gregor the Overlander.
Also it's authors other book series.
Yes indeed. However there is something quite fundamentally "British" about it. I hope that it would translate over but I have some doubts.
Also, best fucking King/Emperor/Ruler/Patrician ever
food porn mandatory.
Literally the only reason i read those books.
I was just stating it wouldn't do well here as a movie.
I mean, it COULD be done, but I don't think people would enjoy it.
I think it would transfer to animation brilliantly though.
This was... awful.
Which books would you want to see the most?
A Harry Potter universe anime not focusing on harry/hogwarts would be pretty cool. Like an SoL all-girls witchcraft school show.
Also, a Nancy Drew anime would be tops. (My mom got me Hardy Boys, but I liked Nancy Drew a lot more; having an Onee-san was pretty cool sometimes)
Did anyone here read "The Keys to the Kingdom" series by Garth Nix?
>Gregor the Overlander.
Fucking. Thank you. Gregor, rage-inducing ending aside, was such a series than Hunger Games. Ripred alone was a better character than every HG character rolled together.
>Si non confectus, non reficiat
>translates to "If it aint broke, dont fix it"
I fucking love Pratchett.
I am so fucking sad that he has dementia. Its a fucking cruel thing to happen to a man with an imagination as amazing as his.
House of the Scorpion.
Pic related looks like Jesus from Big Lebouski
Maybe you aren't remembering what those were actually like.
A thousand times yes, and a thousand more after.
Yes. I've been saying Nix Nix Nix the whole thread. The guy knows how to make interesting worlds.
It has brilliant world building.
I admittedly place more worth in that than I probably should, but it is easily my favorite things about reading books.
They were pretty scary when I was a kid.
Elric as a cute loli being maltreated by Arioch.
I only read the first 3 books but it was good at the time
which studio would do it though?
The Hungry Caterpillar or whatever it's called would be a great OVA or short.
Sorry, haven't read the thread.
Suzy Blue was my childhood waifu.
Fucking this. They need to find a replacement for Crayon Shin-chan sooner or later.
It has an anime, called OreLmo.
Already have seen it.
Haha right? I really want to have shrimp an' hotroot soup and the mole's savory-ass pie thing
with a flagon of strawberry ale
Tolkein is the fucking godfather of creating entire worlds with immense lore and history.
For me, nothing has ever come close to the world he created accross Hobbit/LoTR/Silmarillion.
Surprisingly for me, I think the Nasuverse is my second favourite fictional world/universe.
It was good up until Time Paradox, then Colfer ran out of good ideas.
The Underland Chronicles. I want to see Ripred ripping out throats like it ain't no thing.
Also only read the first 3, but I would totally watch Butler kick the shit out of a troll. Definitely this
That one as well as the cuckoo clock of doom and deep in the jungle of doom
>18 Artemis Fowl books
JESUS FUCKING CHRIST.
I never read past the 3rd one as that was the latest one out for me when I was younger. Never fucking knew that 15 more were made after it, holy fuck.
House of the Scorpion.
Opium cloning and microchips in the brain, great book.
It's already stupid popular in Japan, too. I could not walk into a stationary store or a Daiso without either seeing Very Hungry Caterpillar stuff for sale or else running into girls or OLs with caterpillar phone straps. Japanese people fucking love the caterpillar.
They'd end up making a bunch of gay jokes with Captain Underpants, unfortunately.
>that one fansite with the character sheets, settings, storyboards and animations
Always made it that much more painful knowing it'd never happen.
You realize that most of those are alternative covers, yes?
The dummy movies were scary, I was afraid of them before I watched the movies of it and still was till I was like 22
I enjoyed The Supernaturalist.
Also the MC from The Wishlist was pretty cute.
This one, but make the MC an otaku loser
On closer inspection, yes now I do. And I feel silly.
Hance why I deleted my post
>The Amazing Maurice
It'd be amazing.
[Cluny a shit]
Oh god, poor Fili
that airplane scene goddamn.
Blood-C levels of gore.
>rager Gregor smiling as he slaughters shit
>Gregor learning how to echo-locate
>Luxa being a fantastic tsundere
The only thing that'd make me upset is the ending.
>oh, you want to have a lovely time in underland?
>TOO BAD WE'RE MOVING FOREVER
It's my personal headcanon that Gregor came back when he was grown up.
The Odyssey complete with 500-800 episodes of action, ecchi, and filler.
Keep the character designs too, elephants have never looked so good.
I could see it end up as a G-rated PSG
His other works are great as well. It's just he began writing AF for money instead of fun.
>The Colour of Magic
>Run Rincewind Run!
>The Amazing Maurice
So much fucking potential. Pratchett is so fucking based.
Holy shit yes
From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler
It's about a couple of kids who run away from home and live in a museum. It's fanserviceable and the story is awfully cute.
Has he killed himself yet?
But I loved the ending.
Also, Ripred is glorious.
>Implying he can stay away from Luxa forever
Not yet. He is still making books, except he now does so by using speech regogniton software and tidying up the end result at the end.
Its surprisingly ok. His last few books have been great. Though in the blurb of his latest one, there is a bit of a telling comment about his dementia.
>"After falling out with my keyboard I have now started to talk to my computer in order to create the story"
>"Sometimes, the computer speaks back to me..."
I want to see Going Postal by SHAFT. All that headtilting would fit perfectly.
A spell for chameleon could work the MC is already a useless guy who has bullshit plot armor, and he hangs around a girl who goes from being ugly/smart/bro, to being super hot moe blob, and his best friend is an evil wizard who transforms shit for laughs
I'm surprised no one has mentioned a Jules Verne novel yet.
I think Journey to the Center of the Earth would be a really fun watch.
Watching a group of cute girls discovering ancient civilizations and running from dinosaurs would make my day.
>Captain Underpants is voiced by Wakamoto
Secrets of Droon > Magic Treehouse
Secrets of Droon deserves an anime over Magic Treehouse tenfold.
What about the Beatrice Letters, Notorious Notations, and the paperbacks with the S'poily Brats?
I had a hardER-on
All right. Which one of you faggots thought that there were 18 Artemis Fowl books? Confess up, there is no use resisting. You may have deleted your post but I have screencapped it.
nigga fuck you Magic Treehouse was GOAT
I would like to see an animu of this.
Oh man, that's depressing. I really do wish he could do either a last Lancre or Rincewind book before he goes. Just one last hurrah.
What about an Anime Catch-22?
It was me. I have already admitted to it.
In my defense, a brief glance at that image would give the appearance of 18 books. I realised as soon as I posted that I fucked up
>the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler
My god, Anon.
I think I might love you.
Everyone would. The scene where Kvothe earns his pipes may be my favorite single scene in all of literature. Shit was intense.
His latest one is a Moist von Lipwig one if that is any consolation. And the one before that was a Sam Grimes one.
They are my two favourite MCs anyways so I was happy.
She was the reason why my favorite pie is lemon meringue.
I liked The Supernaturalist, and I loved Airman, even though looking back on Airman it wasn't really anything special.
Catch-22 is my all time favorite book, but I don't think it would transfer to anime very well. The humor styles just seem too different. The book draws a lot of humor out of things that you generally wouldn't see people do, like a military officer sneaking out of a window to avoid someone, but that wouldn't be as funny in anime since people flying out of windows happens all the time there.
Probably the origin of my corruption fetish.
I don't even remember the niceties of Airman. Just that it reminded me of Count of Monte Cristo a bit.
Famous Five and Secret Seven anime when?
Don't worry, you did the right thing anon. Everyone slips sooner or later. I'll definitely delete the screencap and will not engage in a blackmailing operation of any sorts in the near future.
You are my greatest ally.
Magic Treehouse already has an anime
>Mfw I imagined Arty as Lelouche the entire time.
It's a real shame that the Darren Shan series shit the bed so hard around book 10 or 11, whichever one had the lake of souls or some shit. I really need to get back into the Demonata series some day though. Think I only read Lord Loss and whichever one was immediately after that.
its not a children's book but i read it as a child
That's why I said it deserves it more than it.
>>Mfw I imagined Arty as Lelouche the entire time.
>reading AF after having watched CG
How about no.
My favorites are Esme (who is also mai waifu) and Rincewind. I liked Snuff and I really like Moist, but I want a Rincewind/Lancre book. Especially since it's been quite some time since a book that focused on the three witches.
The chance someone has read this is so slim.
Here goes nothing.
well it technically was a book series first
Obligatory Dan Simmons post.
Hyperion is so good.
Yeah, pretty much. I loved it when I first read it, but when I re-read it really was nothing special.
Also, fuck these fucking captcha.
Edge motherfucking chronicles.
if they can somehow keep the artstyle from the illustrations
>wacky, educational adventures with lolis
The Boxcar children series animated by a studio that makes something easy on the eyes.
The Trial, but with all the characters from SZS.
Only if they keep the god-tier OP.
One episode for each child.
Always wanted to read it.
Is it worth it or way to edgy?
1st row > 2nd row > shit > 3rd row
That was the first time that a book actually made me feel the same degree of stage fright that I do as a performer. Really, Rothfuss is just a fantastic writer.
I thought just as much, and I really haven't seen any anime that did (semi)-believable historic fiction well. Not that there isn't, but most anime historic fiction is easily recognizable as anime and thus has modern elements to it.
My niggas. Deep Secret is still the best, though. Rupert is moe as fuck.
I want a remake of The Moomins. The old series is nice and was pretty much made by the Japanese anyway, but they could pretty it up a bit and sell even more merch than they already do.
Snufkin is best girl.
It was still a pretty good series, I re read the bookd recently and still enjoyed it
The movie based of the firs and second book or whatever, was pretty good and that made me want another one or an anime
I'd watch it for Carlos-kun
I could dig it.
And the christmas cake sensei.
Who is also a genki.
It was also my favorite moment of both books that are out. The only comparable other moments I can think of are when Kvothe was having sex with Felurian the first time and when Kvothe killed fucking everyone in the woods near the end of the second book. Excuse me, I'm going to go read.
>The Giver will never get an anime adaptation
I would agree, but then a part of me says no because the original animation was actually really well done so I don't want to see it tainted.
Wayside School series.
The cartoon was a fucking abomination.
And it turns into The Adventures of Super Handsome Human Boy Onsokumaru in His Tightie Whities.
I'd preorder every BD.
The only thing I dislike about the series is that there's only one more book. The series is just so cohesive. I can't remember where the first book ends and the second begins. Those two parts are also thug as hell. Kvothe as a sexomancer was so much fun
Why does that image exist?
I think this is probably one that needs to be untouched.
>Secrets of Droon
My mother used to read them with me before bed. I don't remember what they are about, but I know I loved them.
Almost as much as Magic Treehouse.
Babby's first dystopia
Tale of Despereaux
Fuck that shitty movie.
You should read the Ilium books. A valvrave-level trainwreck in book form if there ever was one.
Good book, but it's one of those where I can't see anyone doing it justice.
But then I also thought that about Life of Pi but that turned out good.
Christ if I know, I saved it back in 08 and almost forgot I had it.
But I also found this while looking, so I consider it a give and take.
I don't know if it's a children's book, but the Dragonlance series would make a fucking amazing anime. It's also the only book series that almost made me cry, and give a shit about the characters. Since it's in a fantasy realm, it would easily fit into anime as well.
Of course, it's a children's novel. I remember reading it in 6th grade.
Agreed. I have no idea how you could make a good adaptation of it into any visual medium since it's such a big reveal moment and plot point that their world is monochrome.
I could only see it working as a radio play.
This one, it's so underrated.
>Snufkin is best girl.
I'll fight you nigger
What about Poppy?
SSY is really close enough to the Giver imo. It delivers on basically all the same things, plus some stuff from the Rats of Nihm, and like a few other of the caldecatt award winning books.
It would be the best webseries.
That book series was so fun. I think I still have Wayside School is Falling Down.
There's like the perfect amount of stories for a little over two cours too.
Imagine the gifs, Japan and food porn go hand in hand.
I think Abarat would be a good one if it had a really creative director. Hesse books would also make good short series or films.
>Tfw read 80% of the Dragonlance series
I love them so much. I wish I had time and motivation to continue reading them. My internet name I typically use for virtually everything was a main character in one of those books.
would be an awesome anime. holy shit
Good point. I actually forgot about that.
How to train your dragon.
Am I just fangasming over my childhood, or would an anime based off of Eoin Colfer's Artemis Fowl series be absolutely awesome (tbh those books kinda use a lot of anime tropes anyway)
Aw shit nigga, that's one of the first books I voluntarily read.
Holy shit I never thought about that, but you're absolutely right!
The main difference is that the setting is distinctly Japanese rather than creepily a-cultural and, you know, the whole super powers thing. But the Giver wasn't without its sci-fi-turned-supernatural elements either, so I guess it's actually really appropriate.
Wayside Gets A Little Strangers was easily my favorite, just for Louis the Janitor alone.
That moment when you get to the final chapter, and realize the entire name of the book is a pun.
A lot of good choices in here but very few of you are actually choosing which studio you'd want to do it.
And on a side note, the ones that do, too many of you are choosing SHAFT.
My choice is Fahrenheit 451 by Madhouse. They did Texhnolyze so I can almost see it being done in the same fashion.
>his last blow to the dragon is a glancing slash
strum had ONE job
It's not a children's book, but god what I wouldn't give for a Codex Alera anime. It's got some of my favorite scenes in any book ever.
Also, Kitai best tsundere
underrated? I even heard of it, it is more like obscure.
It would be until Colfer decided to turn Artemis into an insufferable treehugging liberal piece of shit. I hate when authors insert their own views into a story.
1984 or Brave New World anime fucking when?
To be fair, the eco-slant was there from book one. It just didn't get awful until Time Paradox.
>in charge of politics or philosophy
Neither please. Those would make terrible anime.
Mistborn would be too freakin awesome for words.
You just have to keep japan's influence as far from it as possible.
That way we don't get...Vin was just your typical high school girl...when one day MISTBORN TRANSFER STUDENT! Walks in on her in the bathroom and is a BAKAHENTAIECCHI forever!
Don Quixote reimagined as a highschool boy who watched too much anime.
>Not wanting Onii-Chan to watch you
>Onii-Chan is depicted as a loli
This. These books are great. Generation-spanning stories are wonderful.
Loved these books as a kid. I was completely shocked when I finished the last one. I think it was the first time I experienced a protagonist dying.
Due to the retarded situation that happened with those books In Australia, I read up to the Opal Koboi Deception, and didn't know there were any more until all of the other books were released at once over here.
because of that, I haven't actually read them, so I guess my childlike wonder of those books is still intact.
Lemme rephrase mine then; an anime on Artemis Fowl up until Opal Koboi Deception.
Dark Tower series done by either Shaft or Madhouse.
>Louis and Ms. Nogard at the end
>Louis' mustache tickle
Also, I had no idea it received an animated series but it looks whack.
It was fine when you have it set in a fantasy setting where magic comes from trees and nature and shit but when Colfer decided to sidetrack the entire story to write a whole book about artemis saving a FUCKING MONKEY I dropped it and never looked back.
I agree that the whole 'Humans ruining the planet thing' was there all along, but at least Eoin did it subtly and not in an insufferable way until Time Paradox.
All I want is an anime of Lolita.
you weren't expecting anything else to be under that spoiler, come on
I would watch this if they incorporated the footnotes in some way.
cant remember the name.
Its about this boy who wakes up one day and he is permanently invisible.
Eventually he meets this blindgirl and he start hanging out with her because she is the only one would would treat him as normal (because she doesnt know hes invisble, being blind and all)
anyways she eventually finds out his invisible and they work together to try to find away to reverse the invisibility
It's wack as hell.
It has jack shit to do with the books. It was almost insulting to name call it "Wayside", just because it practically gauranteed that it would never get proper treatment.
Bridge to Terrabithia anime fucking when?
Lord of the Flies. We watch as a group of girls descend into madness on an uninhabited island.
Things not seen
This would be fun if only to so that I could hear Barty brag. Sugita pls.
It's a modern classic, read the first two.
Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell.
With every footnote read by Wakamoto.
I was going to say Deltora Quest but that already received an anime. Anyone watch it? How was the anime adaptation? Because I remember the books being rad.
I'm almost tempted to watch it to see how offended I'll be and then read the books again to be reminded of how great they are. It honestly looks terrible.
I'll be that person.
I would love to see a Hunger Games anime. Or just an adaption of Battle Royal. It will be hated and called edgy because of its theme, but so be it.
It would be borng and melodramatic, just like the original. Seriously would you want 12 eps of a faggot crying over his underage tsun?
Simon was best girl.
Suffering, I like it.
Infinite Ryvius reminded me of Lord of the Flies in space.
Golden Compass is a better title because it fits in with the other books in the series. Even the author agrees.
Probably mentioned already. Harry Potter.
Oh god, what the hell have they done? Those titles are whack. "The Poet's Journey"? "To Holy Island"? "The Crown on the Border of Time"? The Spellcoats is the only one with any kind of accuracy. Jesus.
I can see this being a decent anime, maybe even good
There's almost no way to make something that good into something that good
If you liked Hunger Games, go read Gregor the Overlander. It's better is most every way.
Please, if we're going epics, Faerie Queen or bust. Spenser was on to 3DPD a good 400 years before /a/.
I make an exception for that, considering he was fucking floored when he found out who the Blue Lady was. He had a fucking kid with Kitiara. Imagine if your lover and baby momma came riding out of the sky on a blue dragon trying to murder everyone you've ever loved. I think we can forgive him for only getting a glancing blow under those conditions.
It's such a pity that the latter books got so shitty. I think it was pretty solid up until Will went into the desert. Nihon-Ja, Halt's Peril, and the rest were garbage.
I'd just like to repeat what this>>100391624 guy said. The Underland Chronicles is much, much better.
>Oh everyone is going to be my slaves? Screw saving the Earth.
That ending was hilarious.
Yes. The ending pays off.
Calvin and Hobbes as 4 minute shorts. Animated by TYO Animations.
Best part of Gregor was the "prophecy" reveal. Goddamn, that shit blew my mind. That was the first book I ever read where prophecies were stated directly to not come true.
Only if David Tennant voices Toothless in the dub. That pathetic little voice he does is just perfect.
Oh please, like Vin wasn't like that half the time anyways. Her romance with Elend in the second book until they get married was pretty shitty romcom tier.
ohhh hell the fuck yes
Is it set in Appalachia? Because the only reason I read Hunger Games is because it was described to me as post apocalyptic Appalachia with a plucky young girl.
This, by shaft. The whole series really. Would be crazy.
I was suspecting that in book 3, really. My suspicions were just fed in book 4 when some random nursery rhyme suddenly became a prophecy.
And yet they are making a movie. Also I feel like no one knows that there are three sequels to it.
OK, so when I was a kid I read a book and I can't remember the name of of it. It was generic sword and sorcery but it was still tight as hell. The only distinctive things I can remember about it is that there was a pig that could show visions of the future or something. Anyone know what I'm talking about?
Frog and Toad, of course.
How about Alex Rider?
It would be a neat action series.
Soundtrack by Taku Iwasaki, animated by White Fox with fake film grain.
hmmm maybe East by Edith Pattou ?
Chronicles of Prydain mothafucka.
>the otaku reaction to Lyra and Will near the end of The Amber Spyglass
It makes me laugh because the Japanese Chrestomanci books have such strangely specific and accurate covers from what I've seen, and then they get Dalemark and go 'nobody is blonde or ginger here, nope'.
this fucker was literally 2spooky4me
There was a cartoon but that looked horrible.
Oh shit, I loved John Bellairs when I was a kid. But he had this weird thing of making the MC's best friend an old person.
Thanks for ruining it
I'd like to see some Alice in Wonderland.
oh god yes. I would laugh forever.
all water painted
All those orgies
They got a problem with underage sex?
>buy the BDs
Yeah, they messed that one up pretty bad, clearly. Not to mention everyone is the same skin color.
There was already an anime, but a remake wouldn't be bad
his talent was plot armor all along
They didn't they make an anime for Cirque du freak?
Was there serious hints that they had sex? I read it when I was pretty young so if there were any it probably would have gotten past me. I just assumed they spent the day kissing and shit.
I don't know what's the name of the book or if it's even real, but i see the pics being posted sometime
It's a book that shows a kid being molested by his uncle and then he snitches him and he's gay when he grows up
Darren Shan's series if they didn't get filled with billions of razor sharp edges.
Or the Spiderwick Chronicles.
Phantom Tollbooth might be cool.
Bionicle needs an animated feature that's legit good and not watered down
Well of course there were no direct hints. But I mean, teenagers full on hormone all by themselves and in addition this whole adam and eve metaphor. I know I would have.
Would any of the wordplay work at all, though?
>not Tenkai Knights
That's a good point. Shit.
Almost 7 years, and I'm still waiting
>Every line of dialogue has a Japanese translator's note in the original video
Pleb taste coming through
Wouldn't mind the Percy Jackson series being animated. They really fucked up with the movies.
I came here to say this. Cute orphans doing cute Holmes things.
Well that's a bust. Artemis Fowl would be cool though.
It didn't shit the bed persay, the author just decided to end it there for some reason rather than continue. He said the story could've been twice as long and explore the lost future world...what could have been, man. The manga for it was really good and the fucking Saga of Larten Crepsley made me sad it ended when it did. I wanted to see Crepsley's POV through the series events and everything that happened. I wanted to see his experience throughout...damn, man. I wish.
Does Tenkai Knights have a villain as badass as Makuta Teridax?
oh hell no
TL: Plan means keikaku
When the fuck are they making that movie?
I can already see /a/ bitching about Opal though.
>hurr bitch cunt ojou-sama, worse than Nui
I think the Bartimaeus Trilogy has the potential to be AOTYAY, if the right studio does them.
That could work. Wonder if they'd keep Holly brown-skinned?
Manga. Pretty good one, too.
The Leviathan-Behemoth-Goliath trilogy by Scott Westerfield would have some great steampunk design opportunities. Ghibli could probably do well with it
There a graphic novel going on I think? I'd be satisfied with that. Greek gods would indeed be interesting though. We lack greek gods in our animu
I can see the shipping wars now.
Artemis and Butler OTP.
I want to rape you with a fucking pitchfork. 7 fucking years and barely half of the anime has been subbed. I'm still so fucking mad, the character designs were really good even if the animation was nonexistent.
Someone say Redwall?
Fujoshit pls go
Let me guess, you probably prefer this
Fuck. Now I'm depressed because that doesn't exist.
This book. I think the cinematography would be amazing if it was in anime form.
Of course. They'd be repressing the urge to have her raped, but brown eleves are a total thing.
Butler had an imouto, didn't he?
The one with the teeth was more spooky.
I heard a movie is being made.
Jesus christ. Redwall series a shit. The show an even bigger shit.
>end up liking a vermin character
>s/he gets killed because bullshit
>that horribly gross art in the graphic novels
Man, I just finally read the Last Guardian this week too. Not as satisfying an end as I would've hoped. Really frustrating too, considering the high point. I consider The Lost Colony as a great cap-point for the series but then it just kept going...
hollly shit. I loved these stories. fug man, that was so long ago. Back when I read books. Damn, I haven't read a book in more than a year. Since the last Wheel of Time book came out.
Same as with H2G2, ten years after Colfer dies.
If you can tolerate them, entire series has been dubbed, but it hasn't aired in quite a while, and I don't think there's been an official release.
And the dub itself felt like something you'd find in the Kids WB era.
These books were shit. Those fucking terrible puns.
YOU LOVE IT!
YOU NEED IT!
>yfw we get legit brown-skinned elves in a non-doujin setting kicking ass
Never met anyone else who read this series, it was fucking sick reading it as a kid, I re-read it a year or two a go, and you lose some of the magic through shitty plotholes and writing, but the concept is baller.
I watched like one episode ages ago. It seemed pretty good, for a kid's show. I was stunned that I knew exactly where they were in the story after like two minutes though.
I mean imagine all the Healing
Light brown-skinned Jasmine is the best thing ever.
You can buy the series in Australia (dubbed only, of course)).
Fuck that, who Keys to the Kingdom here? Suzy Blue best girl, Leaf can eat shit.
I know a movie came out but it was pretty much shit and the brother wasn't even all the evil.
>I haven't read a book in more than a year.
Sometimes I wonder whether people like you actually exist without reading a single book once in a while. Then I remember my brother has only ever read Alchemist (the one by Michael Scott) and has never read anything after that.
It just boggles my mind sometimes.
Sorry, can't hear you over how boss Mogget is.
I cannot stomach that dub, no. Fuck no. Never no fuck.
Madeline a la Non non byori.
My thoughts exactly
who mogget here
Suzy is very the best.
As long as they keep the character design I would watch the shit out of this
Madeline best daughteru
Sup son. That reveal.
This thread reminded me of my dream of becoming a young adult fiction author. I had some many ideas as a kid.
I'd a Mogget.
>Trunchbull is voiced by Sugita acting the girl
I know right? I've read two books today already, granted they were diskworld books which you can chew through in a few hours.
Don't give anon. At least maybe you can help purge the world of twilight-esque novel.
Mallory was my first waifu
It's hard to believe Madeline is 75 years old
She may be very small, but inside she's tall
HanaKana for Ms. Honey
It's not an adaptation when they completely butcher the material.
I'd love a faithful remake of the books, though.
They're definitely in my reread list.
I have that black complete edition hard bound and that malory face close up was a real inspiration to my drawfaggotry when I was kid.
Perhaps you should try doing it on the side (if you have time or your career allows it)?
They already made a movie and an anime of Cloudy with a Chance of meat balls
Matilda is Maaya Uchida
This. Fuck Goro.
I guess it was partly LeGuin's fault for not knowing Miyazaki when he first approached her, but then again, seeing how he butchered Howl's Moving Castle that wouldn't have worked either.
She's absolutely gorgeous. I bought the book just to look at her face and the wonderful dress that she was in.
How's animatrix received on /a/ anyway? Never really see it discussed so I assumed it's shunned for being western?
I remember liking that one with the missing cat and abandoned building.
I'd rather have that little Hedgehog who didn't know who shit on his head.
the cartoon was good enough
I've seen it discussed a few times, usually in a positive light. It was an interesting film.
That's not World Record.
because america was busy banging whores and doing productive things.
Ukkers were banging whores and writing.
Pic related was my favorite book in early high school. Anime might have to use liberal CG or require Ghibli, but I'd watch it.
there actually already is an anime, haven't seen it though
>No War of the Worlds.
You people had grim childhoods.
I would love to see a proper adaptation of this in any form.
Is that the one with the foot race guy going too fast?
Too underground, but I agree that it could be a great franchise.
For the love of God, did anyone else ever read this?
If you ask me, CS Lewis was too damn preachy.
And besides, Scandinavia is where it's at.
How about the Earthsea series? I'm just a leGuinfag, but you could have bisshie mages doing bisshie magic on Roke. Half the first book is even at a school, so it's right in Japan's court.
left hand of darkness anime pls Somehow, I think it's too degenerate for Japan though.
Clifford the Big Red Dog and Warriors (The fuckin cats books).
The only ones I can think of.
say what now?
I see someone scooped me on the suggestion and Japan already ruined it.
No but I'm suddenly reminded of this.
I remember being a bit terrified by the art style. That was th greater though among the rest, indeed.
Goro Miyazaki fucked it up.
This. The movie was shit though.
Oh god, Ocean at the End of the Lane anime... That was the only story I've ever read that really made me feel despair.
my first book I ever read on my own
They aren't childrens books, but the Crobuzon trilogy by Mieville.
I knew it looked familiar but I couldn't place it.
The setting and atmosphere of the whole movie was very unsettling. The animation styles did a good job in making the viewer feel that.
Fuck yes. Or Wolves in the Walls. Or Neverwhere, it's basically Spirited Away but underground London.
Is pretty legit. Also, complete fuck-up as MC.
but with horrifying antagonists. How about Sandman?
This is impossible.
>Elric as a loli
Nigga please. Elric was the original dark and brooding prettyboy swordsman. It's already anime as fuck; you wouldn't need to change a thing.
While we're on it, I'd really like to see 1Q84 to be animated.
No one has read this, pretty sure. I'd love to watch the adventures of a qt shota and his cranky sensei and monsters and then watch the shota basically turn into Yuno towards the end of the series. Yanderes are Japan's thing, right?[spoiler/]
I'd like to see Discworld animated, since it would probably translate well into animation being as crazy as it is, but the humor might not get across well.
I've seen it a lot of times in our local bookstore but I was too much of a poorfag back in college to buy it.
What, no love?
Best idea so far.
No seriously, please do tell
I'd love to see the mecha from the second book animated.
Oh man those would actually be amazing.
>The Seventh Tower
Oh man, the fucking Shadowgames, the other world, vikings on Iceboats with giant skates and worms for light. That shit would be AMAZING as an anime.
That's sad to hear, I just got up the Arabian one.
Does the shota go yandere for the sensei? Cause that's a bit weird even for Japan.
whats this about?
I want to watch Thw Shadow over Innsmouth as an anime.
Except the protagonist transfers into an innsmouth school and it's modeled heavily after Higurashi
In fact it's pretty much just Higurashi with fishpeople instead of parasites.
I can already imagine him brandishing his sword over his head while screaming "STORUMUUUBURIINGAAAAAAAA" with eyes flashing red.
And then he collapses because he can't do shit without taking drugs or absorbing souls.
Yeah Japan would love that kind of stuff.
I would absolutely watch the shit out of it.
I feel like it would be a much longer Baccano
>Female hair color
>Not knowing Professor Charles M. Church
Harry Potter by Trigger
Whats your point?
Just making sure you're aware of that little contradiction.
Learn French you shitfucker
I really want to see that TV show from the U.S., called "Cops" get an anime adaption, but all the cops and criminals are cute little girls.
Play it straight, the exact same show, but anime and little girls.
Something with vampires and multiple love interests.
you mean kami-sama
I've got just the book for you, the main character is even a loli.
How would you like a book about a bisexual loli vampire with a harem?
Not that anon but I'm interested.
It's not some shit like twilight right?
That is extremely relevant to my interests.
It's got the whole pussy worthless male protagonist meets up with a capable strong girl and he somehow ends up overtaking her thing
Maybe a bit of tsundere too. I never finished it
That looks verry gay, I dont see how it could interest anyone but the fujoshi crowd
I believe there's a male and a female on that book cover.
that's childrens books, not fantasy
ending is pretty japan-tier, you know how the shit can end up
that is chuu2
the right one is suposed to be a female? thigs sure change in six or so decades
please tell me I'm not the only one who was sad when Darren stopped being a shota all of a sudden when he went and re-met his old girlfriend.
But he did get his hair back so idk
Snufkin is probably one of my favorite characters ever since I was a kid.
Whenever I hear "Demonata", I can't help but think of soda.
It would be done Wizard of Oz style.
It would be pretty visually stunning I think
That'd be great. It'd be like one-piece but you lose a lot of characters as time goes on.
>That 7 year Calypso arc
>gender-swapped cyclops who lusts for man meat instead of sheep
no fuck you it will be an anime full of shotas and come Comiket we will have amazing doujins for it
Or is that the joke.
Oh come on, no one read that as a child
anon, you can still go for it. I'm actually going to school for it right now. Besides, middle grade books are amazing. It's the YA industry that's pretty shit at the moment.
Literary agents are more receptive of manuscripts during the winter months.
>not wanting a entire episode of ayn rand opinions
Make it a harem with the protagonist as only male. It'd be a perfect way to fuck with otaku because the after a bit of harem antics, the girl with the whole palsy-moe will get fucked up by the genki girls and things will just go downhill from there.
An animu so dull it would make texhnolyze look exciting.
HOLY FUCKING SHIT I REMEMBER THIS
The flying segments would be pretty sweet too. Imagine a first person view of them racing down the canyons near Waterfall City.
Not only would it be pretty fucking sad.
It could appeal to mothercons too.
pls dont cocktease anon
AND loli sized
i would say where the red fern grows, but its pretty murikan and wouldnt taken to nip style very well.
However touching spirit bear would probably lend itself very well.
