>character says the exact same thing twice in a row
>subs give two different lines with the same meaning

Fansubs editors, stop this shit.

You don't need to make these lines more interesting.
You don't need to demostrate the richness of the English language.
You don't need to try this hard to find ways to justify your existence in your fansub group.

Repetition serves to underline and emphasize a phrase. On top of that it's not just about meaning, it's also about flow. There's never any good reason to change this.

And while I'm here

>scanlation editors adding their personal commentary in the spaces between panels

This shit needs to stop too. I'm not talking about TL notes. I mean shit like "Now this I can fap to!" or "Kenichi knows tfw no gf ;_;".

That happens so little now that you actually have to look for scanlator groups that still do this. You were probably reading manga chapters from 2 years ago or before. Kisu KMS is one of the worst offenders of that right now though.

What anime is that?

Oh God, exactly this. To whoever is translating Kingyozaka Noboru, fuck you for doing pic related and fuck your typesetting.

I agree, but really you're coming off as a whiny bitch. Plus, do you really think making a thread on /a/ is going to magically make any subgroups or scanlation editors that browse /a/ go 'oh shit anon called me out, time to get my shit together'?
>>
Translator here, I agree with you OP, that's bad practice.
>>
If you can understand what the person is saying then it doesn't matter, fansubbers will always be retarded, you don't have to always read the subs.
>>
>This shit needs to stop too.
I don't really see personal comments in TL notes anymore. The only time that happens is when I'm watching something older, from the days when there was worse shit happening, like hardcoded subs and watermarks in an attempt to get you to join their IRC channel or give you a morality lesson about how their work is not for resale or rent.

He's talking about manga.
>>
>>100386511
So was I, but I sorta drifted off into anime at the same time, since it happens in both and it's more annoying there.
>>
Duly noted. I'll inform the fansub mafia about your problem, anon.
>>
>>100386879
So say the cartel so say we all.
>>
>>100385126
Instead of complaining about substandard quality why not show us how it's done and become a fansubber?
>>
It always amuses me to see people who can't understand anime without somebody else translating it for them to be full of so many ideas on how to properly translate.

Do you run around telling other people whose jobs you aren't qualified to do how they should work, or is it just translators?

Generally when the audience of a product sees a flaw in the product, they let the producer know about the flaw. Even if the product is free.
>>
>characters say "he reads manga and watches anime"
>fansubs read "he reads comics and watches cartoon"
>>
>>100387836
Translating is very very different from just understanding a language. Deal with it.
>>
>>100388866
You're saying that like they're completely exclusive from each other.
>>
>>100389359
No. Translating includes understanding, but there's quite a bit more to it than just that. And that's where most people make their complaints and suggestions.
>>
>>100387012
you dont have to design a product to give criticize the product

Japanese refer to western animation as "anime" too.
