since gianex or whatever went under does that mean we won't get any dubs of the eva remake movies?
>>
Gainax didn't go under. There was speculation and cancelled releases from ADV but apparently they're not letting anything on. I didn't think they licensed EVA 1.0 anyway soooooooooo.
>>
Gainax tanked and they aren't releasing any more gurren lagann episodes.
>>
>since gianex or whatever went under

lmao, geneon. and adv does eva. and why does it matter if we get a dub anyway?
>>
>>10035312
I thought all the episodes were done and adv was doing the dub?
>>
wait, what went under (slowpoke?) and what is affected by this?
>>
>>10035522
geneon usa
dubs and american releases like "when they cry" and hellsing ova.
>>
>gainax went under

YES!
>>
lol GAINAX, riiiiight
>>
>>10035542
really? aww but I was loving the hellsing ova...
>>
>>10035314

If ADV can't even timely release the most sought after anime of 2007 to people WHO HATE BUYING ANIME, then they're definitely finished.
>>
Jesus fucking christ
>>
I hear that alot of production companies are going under because people won't dish out the money to buy anime dvds and instead pirates them. so in like 30 years time do you think anime will be dead cause people won't buy the dvds?
>>
>>10035664
JUST SHUT THE FUCK UP ALREADY
>>
>>10035664
0/10
>>
>>10035664

In 30 years we won't give a shit. Why do most of us watch anime? Because it's a free hobby.
>>
>>10035664

maybe in different languages but im sure anime in general wont die at all...i mean their made for a certain country, they just get a bonus income when they get licensed and released in other languages, i hope they dont plan on it
>>
>>10035664
Well, if broadband would become more affordable and they set reasonable release schedules and allowed people to stream/download for a fee, then they can certianly survive.

Also remember that alot of money is made of PUSHING PRODUCT. So a show can get rave reviews and still end up not doing too much profit because it doesn't push the product
>>
GAINAX has so many royalties in the EVA franchise alone, they're good for another 10 years.
>>
i don't give a fuck if all the american companies go under. it just ensures i won't ever get v& for torrenting everything. it's not like japan makes anime for us(with a few shitty exceptions).
>>
>>10035708

I hate digital distribution. I hate the idea of paying per episode. When or if that shit happens, we'll still be able to pirate.
>>
>>10035697
I like anime not because it's free, but because it's enjoyable. I'd hate to see animation as a medium die because people can't pay $24 for a dvd
>>
>>10035732
Well, i'd rather Digital Distribution than having to wait on some company to dick around with pressing enough disks and possibly completely underestimating demand.
>>
>>10035664
I hear these production companies are charging more than a niche market is willing to pay for and pulling out the ethics card in a failure attempt at marketing to try and get some pity sales.
>>
>>10035735

I like it because it's enjoyable as well. But it certainly helps that I don't have spend as much on it as I do food or rent.
>>
>>10035755

You still won't own anything, and what's more, it will be full of DRM. That makes it far less desirable than fansubs.
>>
you know i have yet to watch eva...should i bother now? cause im sure i cant find downloads anywhere at this day and age
>>
>>10035763
I'm just a fan of animation in general. what with all the cg and flash animation shows here in the states it's like classic animation is a dying breed. I like anime cause it's about the only good classic animation left
>>
>>10035664
The sales of DVDs in America don't affect the industry in Japan at all.
>>
>>gianex or whatever went under
Wut
>>
this is the most retarded thread i have read since being back from b&
>>
>>10035790

That too. And even more on that, there's still hundreds upon hundreds of older shows, movies, and ovas that we haven't seen. Going even further into the classic-ness. Anime might be moving to digital animation, but yes, I love that it retains the same feel as real animation. And people hate CG generally, look at Appleseed.
>>
>>10035826
welcome back lol :D
>>
>>10035290
8/10, You need more practice, NEVER GIVE IT UP!
>>
>>10035735
if you're not buying japanese dvds it doesn't really matter. and it's not like all the revenue for a show comes from dvd sales.
>>
>>10035792
Completely wrong. Most shows can't even get finished unless they're licensed.
>>
>>10035792

That's bullshit and you know it.

A licensing deal earns the studio a lot of money. However if licensers in the US are unwilling to invest, or in the worst case folding like Geneon, the studios are not going to be making as much.

Are US DVD sales what the Japanese anime market hinges on? Of course not. Do they affect the market? Yes, of course.
>>
To save the NA Industry I say the solution may not lie in DVD prices or any of that, but primarily exposure. Anime needs way fucking more exposure, obviously. It needs to be a cable channel too, not a subscribe to one.
>>
>>10035874

i smell bullshit!
>>
Almost completely unrelated,

There are no torrents of Rebuild available yet yes?
>>
>>10035942

dude doesnt adult swim do a good enough job at that?
>>
>>10035942
you'd think with all the ranting otakus and crazy anime tweens that anime would be bigger here
>>
>>10035971
MAYBE WHEN THE DVD IS OUT!
>>
isn't manga in america extremely successful?
>>
>>10035999

eh i barely buy video games, their shit out of luck if they think im going to buy a dvd ill watch maybe once
>>
>>10035942
But almost anything on N.A. tv would be a dub. Needs either optional audio/sub tracks on cable/satellite (is this currently available?) or an overall increase in dub quality.

Or just straight-up subs.
>>
>>10036022

Yes, but manga has a lot more sales going on than anime dvds.
>>
>>10035775
lol watermarking
>>
>>10036036

Maybe mix it up depending on the show or time of day.
>>
>>10036036

ohh i see what you mean, yeah thats not going to happen cause americans are lazy and wouldnt want to have to read subs to enjoy a show
>>
>>10035996
AS is giving up on its anime slowly but surely.
>>
didn't they digitally distribute death note subbed? was that successful at all?
>>
>>10036022

yeah man, you can get manga in your local school libraries from what i hear
>>
>>10036062

I'm in favor of dubs when it applies to the right show. Qualifications for a dub must be things like:

1. Not based in Japan, no Japanese characters, no Japanese influence. Every dub fucks some name or something up here or there and we gripe and bitch either way.

2. Better voice actors. Using the same tired pool of mediocre actors really makes shows boring.
>>
ANSWERMAN
>>
soooo dubbed anime is slowly doomed... and manga is ok? is this what this whole thread boils down to?
>>
maybe americans are getting smarter and realizing that manga is the superior medium and most anime aren't worth owning on dvd.
>>
>>10036102

holy fuck you are the worst tripfag in the history of /a/, kill yourself
>>
Lol, Geneon, newfag. Geneon.

The entire economy of Japan could crash and all other countries ban Japanese animation and Gainax would still be making tons of money, endlessly, from Evangelion and now the Gurren Lagann brand. They'll never "go under" - unless a group breaks off like with Sunrise and forms their own, superior studio.
>>
>>10036118

Well manga only has one possible way for us to enjoy it unless we speak moon.
>>
>>10036139

Yeah yeah, DUBS ARE ALL EVIL BAAAWWW

I've heard good dubs.
>>
>>10036157

>1. Not based in Japan

have you watched anime?
>>
i only watch an anime if it comes dubbed in the language spoken in the setting!
>>
>>10035874
Bullshit!

>>10035971
There's been torrents out for months, it's just that they're shitty camrips because THE DVD ISN'T OUT YET

>>10035942
Anime's got plenty of exposure. The reason anime DVDs don't sell is because the Japanese are willing to pay twice as much as Americans for an anime DVD. It helps that we don't HAVE to buy the DVD to see the show - if a company releases a DVD that we feel isn't worth the thirty bucks, we can download fansubs which are free and usually equal or better quality anyway. A DVD with just two episodes on it sells for four thousand yen in Japan, which comes out to around forty bucks for around fifty minutes, which is WAY out of most American fans' acceptable price ranges, and it can't be made THAT much cheaper for foreign releases.
>>
Lol, Geneon, newfag. Geneon.

same shit, different day
>>
>>10036102
>Qualifications for a dub must be things like:
