My copy of Shirley just arrived, so I'll be Storytiming Shirley and Shirley Madison by Kaoru Mori
I bought it used and it turns out the last page of the afterward is ripped out so I'm mad as fuck
Only now do I realize I should have started with this image
why the fuck did the author abandon this character
Or probably one, fuck
Also, now that I look at the image counts, I do not think I will be able to do Shirley Madison as well before going to bed today
I'll do it tomorrow then
>Buying used things ever
>Not supporting Kaoru Mori properly.
Well, techinically the sequel is still ongoing. Who the fuck knows when we'll get more cute meido though.
The localized version came out like a decade ago, it couldn't be helped. Same with my four volumes of Emma that I'm working on finishing. I bought Anything and Something and the Otoyomegatari volumes new though.
but the afterword is the best part
Sorry to hear that. Did you complain about it? Could you get a refund?
how is it?
I've only read emma so far
whoops turned off the autofire on accident
>how is it?
Fucking read it, it's short as fuck anyway.
>last page of the afterward is ripped out
These were thrown in by the scanlation group
I want a Shirley.
By the way, in the localized version, CMX has the doll's name as "Marie" instead of Molly
I would marry her
so if the last page is ripped out how do we know the proper ending
The proper ending to the afterword manga?
Learn moon, it's not translated
Though, I've copied out the translations from my localized version and will be posting that with the untranslated afterword that was included in this archive
Also, in this chapter it seems that Mr. Kemp was retiring, rather than them just.
Just switching stores.
In the localized version, I mean. It's interesting to see the differences.
This entire conversation is rather different in the localized version, actually. From the previous page:
"I wish I were a brunette..."
"This hairstyle only looks good on someone with your color hair. You're lucky to have such a fine shade.
"...... I would prefer to be a blonde."
"Really? I can't imagine why.
Women with brunette hair look more intellectual, sophisticated, elegant...
When I was a student, there was this one girl with beautiful ebony hair. She was envied by many, including me.
I'll never forget the scolding I got from my grandmother when I told her I wanted to dye my hair."
This is cute as hell.
Huh, localized actually sounds way better and makes more sense.
God damn, my heart.
I loved the Mary Banks chapter.
My heart can't take it
That's not irony.
Ever heard of pollution?
All those forges getting iron in the sky
＞it couldn't be helped
Was reading ahead, the salary chapter is so hnnng inducing goddamn.
Crap I keep forgetting the time period this is set in
This is far too cute. Thanks for posting, OP!
The localized version instead had her asking if the weather was being sarcastic. or Something, it's on the other end of the room.
Because Mori is the female Miura.
Both are lazy as fuck.
And both of them are amazingly overrated art wise.
Mori's not lazy. Otoyomegatari comes out consistently.
And consistently has hilarious detail disparity.
It's like she does 1/3 of the page and gets bored.
Bless this group's souls, but they didn't translate the afterword. Since I've got my copy on hand, I'll just write them out for you guys.
EXCEPT FOR THE PAGE THAT'S TORN OUT FUCK
Bear with me if this looks messy, It's my first time. Plus, the t
Silly Afterword [Bubble: & Excuses] Manga
The Ups and Downs of Life
Hello there, I'm Mori.
Do you like girls with dark, bobbed hair who are also maids?
[Small text] I love 'em!
Thank you very much for buying and/or reading this book?
When my early stories were collected for this volume, I looked them over!!
I was still learning here!! It was just an experiment!!
I'm sorry. I'm so ashamed! When I did those stories, I was still a greenhorn.
[Small text] Pillow
I'm sorry! I'm sorry! I'm sorry!
On the other hand, I was full of youthful exuberance at the time and gave the stories my all.
I did everything I wanted to do with them and nothing but, so I suppose they can be taken as an innocent, refreshing product from my past...
Anyway, I thought I'd give like a little commentary on each chapter and story.
[Scroll] Chapter One "The Beginning"
I didn't even know about different kinds of pens at this stage.
[Small] Drawing Manga in Chalk Era
Even "Cutting the layouts" was like from a foreign language to me.
Until then, my only image of a maaid was Mrs. Hudson from the "Sherlock Holmes" cartoon.
I thought the idea of having a young woman who was in charge of everything was great!!
Except at the time, I saw "Kiki's delivery service"...
[small] Making her skirt rustle up like this should be a crime.
A 13-year old maid!!
A strange switch turned on
And so, I worked feverishly to complete that story
To be honest, it was the thought of her twirling around the skirt that kept me going
[Scroll] Chapter Two "Little Marie"
I liked the results of the first chapter, so I thought I'd try one more
I had no plans at all to make this into a series or anything
"Chapter Two" is a simple story about the employer buying a doll for her maid...
...But I liked the cuteness of having the girl be secretly pleased with the doll...
...And having her be a maid made it even cuter.
That was my own wish embedded in there.
Benett-san was originally meant to be the daughter of a wealth[sic, good qc there cmx] family...
...Which is why she's got such an optimistic personality.
By the way, in this installment, I made this old man into a recurring character.
[Scroll] Chapter Three "Blonde and Corset"
Around this period, I finally learned the ins and outs of switching pens.
You can start to see the lines here.
[Small]The clay pot period of manga drawing
Whereas before, I used zip-a-tones willy-nilly ...
...Now I applied them with a lot of thinking beforehand.
As for the story, as soon as I thought of it, it took me no time at all to do...
I think you can guess the reason why.
By the way, the Husband at the flour shop was inspired by "The Blues Brothers" ...John Belushi.
And there actually is a corset that "Doesn't rust even if it gets wet."
[Small] The "Bone" was usually made of iron, which was a corset problem because it apparently rusts easily.
[small] From a Warner Company advertisement, circa late 19th century England
[Scroll] Chapter Four "Home"
This one is more about the lady of the house.
Um, this episode...
[small] At the time, out-of-work and semi-shut-in
...was about how nice it is to have a house. Er...
...And the message was delivered directly like that.
[small It just didn't work.
[Scroll] Chapter Five "Rain"
I see what I wanted to do here, but unfortunately, the way I put the story together was terrible.
Also, at the time, I couldn't draw an evil-ish character.
Actually, I just wanted Bennett-san to get angry at Shirley and make her cry in this one...
[Scroll] "Me and Nellie and One Afternoon"
An extremely cheap story about a boy and an animal (And a maid).
So this is how you meet a baby robin?
When I was a small child, too, I picked up baby birds, insects, and small animals.
I killed a lot of animals trying to raise them...
[Box] Murder files of my early days [The "Murder Files" bit overlaps the box. Sloppy typesetting, CMX]
[Small, clockwise from far right] Turtle, Carpenter Bee, Cicada, Mantis, Lizard, Grasshopper, Frog, Tit, Sparrow
They weren't bad experiences
[small] The model was Marilyn Monroe (Real name Norma Jean)
The home teacher who appeared in the first half of the story and then disappeared without a trace...
...was supposed to be in there more, but I dropped the ball.
[small]He had a lot of potential, but my brain couldn't handle two plotlines at once.
[small] Hey, clouds!
And our old man shows up again...
...Lacking a name.
[Scroll] "Mary Banks"
I couldn't wait to draw the scene where they're talking on the terrace and the last part between the maid and the steward...
[small] That's why I've gotta work on my layouts...
[small] ...and drawing backgrounds.
...But I had a devil of a time with the rest of it.
The maid in this one is cool, strong-willed, and has black hair.
[small]Has Matsumoto hairstyle
You can tell I was really into Yosuke Akahashi-san and Izumi Matsumoto-san at the time.
By the by, the model for Sir Burton was Sean Connery mixed with a little of the A-Team's Hannibal.
It's very clear where I got the pranks from. [i]I know, where's my imagination?
GUESS WHAT PAGE IS RIPPED OUT HOLY SHIT THOSE FUCKING TURBONIGGERS
And that's all folks
Thanks OP, it was great to go to sleep like this. Storytime is always nice.
Thank you very much.
You made my night OP.Thank you.
>Actually, I just wanted Bennett-san to get angry at Shirley and make her cry in this one...
I bought Anything and Something, all of Emma and Shirley, but for some reason I can't make myself interested in Otoyomegatari. Not enough maids I guess.
I got bored of Otoyomegatari's later chapters. Been finding it harder to motivate myself to catch up.
I also bought Anything and Something and dumped it the other day, holy shit those scans are giant
It's pretty great.
I can't seem to find the sketch collection, Scribbles, that was advertised in the back of the localized Otoyo vol 5.
Oh god I lost my shit at this page.
Every time I see Shirley posted, I HAVE to read it. It never gets old.
