Why the lack of quality space operas over the past 10 or so years /a/? The last great one that I know of is Crest/Banner of the Stars.

Is there just no interest in the genre anymore? Is dead?

I've only been watching anime over the past 8 or so months, and it's by far my favorite genre. It just looks like there is a painful gap between releases.
>>
Only good one to come out in recent years is yamato and thats just a remake of an older show. The genre is kind of dead at the moment due to the fact japanese interest is elsewhere.
>>
Which Abh would you fuck?

shameless self bump while I head to class

Spoor is the only correct answer

Lafiel is for nothing but the purest love, and only when self-inserting as Jinto.

Spoor is for intense, earth-shaking fucking.

Towards the Terra was pretty good.

Space opera is dead.

That ship sailed long ago.

Oh, Crest/Banner of the Stars thread? To be honest, I used to consider this one of the gratest shows ever, but...
- season III and IV is nowhere near the orginal two
- the shoving into the face how Abh is future Japan
- cats love. Fuck it.
- and the worst of the worst: Abh are SO perfect, precise, beautiful and shit, while humans are just a bunch of incompetent cowards
At least I still like the main cast.

WW2 generation died.

But the genius play on words have been entirely lost in translation.
I can't understand how somebody could enjoy the crest of the stars series without knowing some japanese.
>>
From what I understand most of the light novels were published in English, has anyone ever read them? I would imagine they're very hard to come across nowadays.

inb4 someone says lesbian pirates

Yeah OP, but that has to be expect, we can't even get a decent sci-fi show these days without high-school bullshit (SSY was one of the few expetions and it bombed hard despite being quite interesting) let alone a freacking space opera.

I gave up on anime long ago in that regard and started reading books, the Foundation and Hyperion are quite nice.

I don't think there's a lot wrong with attitude, I think it's a healthier way for Japan to look at itself than we do here in the West. I would prefer for us to represent ourselves in our fiction as aggressively reinventing and reinvigorating our societies with careful breeding and advancing technology rather than the whole, "please cuddle my autistic transgendered son and fuck my wife for my racist sins President Obama".

Fuck I'm retarded, THAT attitude I'd meant to say.

Subjective, but I agree with you

>the shoving into the face how Abh is future Japan

Never really noticed

>cats love. Fuck it.

Eh, it is what it is

>and the worst of the worst: Abh are SO perfect, precise, beautiful and shit, while humans are just a bunch of incompetent cowards

Well yeah, the story primarily focuses on the abh, and that's pretty much what they think of themselves. However, it's left to the audience make assumptions about them and humanity. I never felt like it forced the thought that they were perfect on you.

Really?
>>
>>100301479

Well, with the subs I watched it still made for a compelling story. I think whatever was lost in translation was more than made up for.
>>
>>100297116
I wouldn't call it "just a remake", half of the show is brand new and even old parts were slightly changed.

I agree, I think they did a pretty good job of comparing Abh and human value systems. There are plenty of instances in which Jinto and Lafiel argue to try and force their opinions on one another without the writing favoring one or the other.

The only thing the Abh were guilty of were establishing a space empire without the political nonsense that representative government brings. And thats good for them because when your empire encompasses over a hundred star systems and almost represents 1 trillion citizens, galactic peace and stability > self interests.

A lot of people deride the Abh for being genetically enhanced Japanese elves that can do no wrong. But they are also a mutated humankind who are damned to the task of being the only command structure, the only political force, and the only line of defense that stand between the Abh Empire and a galaxy engulfed in chaos. It is the damnable fate of all Abh to serve the greater good even when most of humankind disregards it, and it is the damnable fate of humankind to recognize that it would be a species driven mostly by rage, fears, and self-serving interests without the Abh Empire or a uniting force as effective as the Abh Empire.
