Best subs for Space Dandy? Does the dubbed version have a better translation?
Boobies are a miracle of the universe.
There was a tweet shortly after ep1 aired saying the dub changes the script and alters the overall story, and that the sub keeps better to the original script.
As far as I know, Commie is your best bet for subs, unless you want HS and their unparalleled banding.
I watch both. They have similar jokes, but the accent makes it funnier there or less funnier there. That's my reasoning for watching it twice.
Also, I found that 2nd ep was boring. Only good part was when they went to the other dimension and met the ramen old fag. And when Dandy took meow's phone, and throw it, making the bad guys teleport to the same place they already were.
they're actually an insult unto god mate.
>First word of the show is pppai
I like when Manyuu Hikenchou talk about breasts, it's consider the cancer killing anime and one of the worst anime of all time but when Space Dandy does it, it's 10/10 best new show, so innovative, sasuga Watanabe.
>How do they keep finding us?!
>I don't know, lucky guess?
I watched funimations dub and the streaming sub that funimation puts up for free on their site, and I prefer the dub, honestly.
It's funnier because the jokes are more relevant to our culture, and space dandy is VERY clearly making a LOT of US cultural references.
But that doesn't help you if you're not in a country that can get the funimation streaming or funimation dub.
The comment about the dub changing the plot that people talk about was actually an animator saying that the localized version of one line seemed out of character to him.
The dub is a localization rather than a literal translation but nothing about the story, characters or events happening are changed.
you should watch the dub
It's not like the overall story is going to matter.
>out of character
was it meow?
Meow seems like his character is a lot more subtle than we'd think
Been holding this off for a while, but the threads made me think it was gonna be complete shit.
Surprisingly had some laughs and an overall good time.
/a/ wrong once again.
It looks like it will, but I still don't think localization is inherently a bad thing. I watched both for the first episode and couldn't tell any story differences.
You should watch the PLOT
No, it was Honey guessing "Asteroid belt" when Dandy said his job started with an A. The original guess was something less stupid.
Most of /a/ just said the threads would be shit but the show itself could go either way. And they're still wrong, the threads are pretty decent after the 2nd episode aired.
Except this is bullshit. I've watched both the sub and the dub. The story and script are exactly the same. The only changes are to jokes that Americans wouldn't understand and vice-versa, also the dub throws in some funny dialogue or lines during times where there is nothing really important being said.
Don't watch the sub, the dub is just slightly better.
Buy the BDs
Some subtle thing probably got changed that he only noticed since he knows the plot and is an otaku sperglord. It could be something that was important foreshadowing or worldbuilding.
Watch both subbed and dubbed. Get double dose of Space Dandy all the while appreciating cultural differences that was put on the show.
Oh geez, I wonder who knows the show better, one of the creators or some random faggot on the internet.
>The original guess was something less stupid.
What's the matter bro? Are you gay? Also Manyuu Hikenchou was funny.
What if he's a Japanese living in US atm?
He has to watch both, double Dandy dose ain't bad!
apparently, in the original, her answers were insulting him, not feigning stupidity
He seems to have never actually been in a single thread about Manyuu Hikenchou and not realized it's universally loved and in fact less controversial than Dandy
watched both dub and sub, and sorry but the sub is bland as shit
There's no truth behind the tweet to begin with you dumb fuck! It's just some idiot making claims and misinterpreting something posted by one of the animators.
The dub is superior in every way except QT's voice.
I dunno, I thought the sub was funnier, but whatever.
It's kinda funny but most of the Space Dandy porn it's about Meow
The show only has two episodes and already he has a cult following. Both americans and japanese love him.
It was more me reacting to ANN and the general anime fandom opinion of both shows.
/a/ is really the only place where people stop and though for a moment and realize that it Manyuu Hikenchou was a pretty good show.
Commie are the only softsubs I found.
Commie it is.
Commie has dual audio too, don't they?
Yes. But other groups deliver the dub faster.
That's pretty funny if you think of her as insulting him. Also makes her look less stupid.
I suppose, but I don't see why people are getting so bent out of shape over a space-hooters waitress appearing stupid.
I can see it. One makes her somewhat sassy and just playing dumb to be cute, the other makes her legitimately retarded.
>so as someone who worked on the show, I would like to speak about this short dialogue between Honey and Dandy. This above is fair to original japanese version (she says "ujimushi" = "worm"in japanese not ass, but it’s still sarcastic, funny and insulting) , but in the english Toonami dub, the script was changed.
Instead, in the english script, she says “asteroid belt” which is neither funny, insulting nor sarcastic, and it is totally misleading, because this dialogue was an important hint to Honey’s real character.
>When she’s sarcastically calling him an ass, the story is trying to give small hints to the audience that this show is actually not set in a generic universe of stupid brainless boobies, and the female characters are not what they seem to be. Yes, we are in a bar called “BOOBIES”…..the girls are supposed to look generic and hot, but they are acting, getting paid for it, that’s not who they really are. The episode is supposed to be very fun and crazy, strange narrative, but with small important hints.
>I don’t understand why they would change the manner of the dialogue in the english Toonami version, making her character seem empty and generic, it makes you totally forget about her.
Toonami used "Asteroid belt", Commie used "Ass", Funi (Horrible) kept the "Maggot".
I vote for Funi.
It is, in the original she is is intentionally insulting him because she notices she is some sort of obnoxious Space Johnny Bravo.
In the dub they wanted to make her look clueless and stupid.
