Also started with Dragon Ball, as well as pokeymans.
NarutoI was a teenager, I was trying to impress a qt weeb girl who liked it, forced myself to pretend to like it but there were elements that I did actually like, sought out, and found, in much higher quantities, in other, better shows like Inuyasha
I don't really have a favorite but I started marathoning Soul Eater because it's been a long damn time since I had this much fun with a shonen.
I've literally only named entry-level, plebeian anime in this post.
>>
First anime I watched was probably Dragonball. The first that got me into anime was actually Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne, though I forget how I discovered that one.
Favorite recent anime would be Log Horizon.

>First Anime
Motherfucking Superbook... I'm not even kidding.
>Series that got me into anime
Robotech, it was the first one I was aware was based on a show from Japan and was the first show I ever heard the term anime used about. Came on one of the cable channels at my grandparent's house... because they were the only people in our family that was in range for cable service then.

Fuck it, nothing has ever managed to unseat Macross. I'm currently working on a damn $120 VF-1S model. Sometimes the classics hold up.

I saw all the anime on TV in the 90s but wasn't really interested. Then I started watching One Piece and Trigun with my sister. Also read some manga I found at the library.

>>
My first anime was probably Astro Boy or some other older dubbed crap that aired on the TV, but the anime that got me into it was JoJo's bizarre adventures, thankfully I read the entire manga before and learnt the value of Lurking more, and was friends with other anons and have managed to avoid being a massive shitter, but had been into VNs for about a year before that. I don't really have an overall favourite anime so far though, there were a bunch I really enjoyed, but all of them had their own downsides to them, and I can't decide on what I found to be the best of them.

Probably DBZ or Pokémon in the later 90s. Watched them on YTV. I don't remember a time from my early childhood to while I was growing up that I didn't like anime. To me, it was cartoons that had serious action, drama, heroism, and plot progression. I loved watching characters develop and getting answers to a running story

Currently, my favorite series right now (completed) would have to be TTGL. It had everything I loved about anime, pushed to a hotblooded extreme with a style that I like. I think that Kill la Kill has a chance of surpassing it, but for different reasons.
>>
I have a Japanese Grandma. So i grew up watching anime mostly miyazaki movies, Pokemon ,and DBZ in Japanese. I grew out of it but I made friends with people who were full
blown weebs In high school .One day I had the flu and saw a advisement for Full Metal alchemist and Wanting to know what all the fuss was about I watched It.

I didn't like it too much but hearing Japanese made me feel like a kid. After watching maybe 3 shows in a year I watched Evangelion and I have no life anymore.

Not him, but I never watched any tv as a child, since we didn't have any sort of service. I spent my whole childhood reading instead of wasting my life watching television. Now I waste my life watching shitty anime instead of doing anything productive.
>>
Kind of a long story. 2002, I first noticed my mom reading (what I thought at the time was porn) Love Hina when I went to Barnes and Noble for textbooks. Later that year, I found my brother reading Love Hina manga on our computer, and decided to take a peek, being a teenager interested in sex and all. I was completely a sports normalfag until I discovered this manga, then immediately looked up Love Hina anime (which I fucking loathe) then went straight into Kanon 2002 with Jay Leno, then into Key's Kanon eroge.

Been playing eroge since, at the age of 14, a seiyuu otaku, and an eroge consumer. I watch anime purely depending on the seiyuu I follow (jolno, mizuhashi kaori, etc) or if it looks cute. I'm also 2 months short from being a christmas cake.

While my first anime was probably either Sailor Moon or Speed Racer, I didn't get into it till Dragon Ball Z and Pokemon.

At a certain point though, I grew a distaste for it, probably I wanted to watch new things and I ended up following the crowed.

Pokemon/yugioh. If that doesn't count, Cowboy Bebop. I watched it on a whim one day in my early college days, because I'd heard a lot of good things about it. I liked it. About a year later couple of friends, one of whom was a major league, daki-humping weeaboo, marathoned Nichibros and Code Geass, and I watched a good portion of both of those with them and loved them both. Eventually I started looking for my own shit to watch, and then ended up here after I started following the new seasons. I've seen less than 50 series total. I'll break it soon enough, I just broke 40. Can you forgive me.
>>
I'm part jap. My parents enrolled me in a moonrune immersion program through the public school system K-8. I grew up watching Doraemon and Anpanman in kindergarten. Have been hooked ever since except for a 7 year break starting in highschool where I dropped the entire hobby after encountering weebs. /a/ rekindled my love of chinese cartoons when I ended up crashing here after /tg/ got its first mod.

Current favorite is Gunpla Boyfriends. Gundam was always a soft spot for me ever since 0079 and all the fanservice in it makes me feel warm and comfy.

I also read a lot of horror manga around the same time as Bebop without thinking of it as anything different than American comics. I don't really read anything other than horror as far as manga goes. For favorites, I'd say Nichibros, K-On, Spice and Wolf are my top 3. I tend to like plebby relaxing shit and romcoms, with giant robots and shonenshit interfering only occasionally.

I was never into DBZ or Pokemon, but I watched some Miyazaki movies as a kid and loved them. Years later my friend showed me Avatar: The Last Airbender. I liked so I looked around for more stuff like it and found Naruto, which I watched a few hundred episodes of. I didn't watch any more more anime for several years until my brother started watching Fullmetal Alchemist on Netflix and recommended it to me. Around the same time I saw a screenshot of that chick in Kokoro Connect telling the guy she masturbated to him or whatever, and decided I had to check that out. I started streaming airing anime and watching older stuff dubbed on netflix. I'd been on 4chan for a long time, so I decided to check out the anime board. Here I figured out what classic shows I really should watch, found charts for each season, and learned how to torrent fansubs. The rest is history.

Like a few others I was a student of Sci-Fi Channel's Saturday Anime back in the day. Very first Anime I was ever exposed to was Demon City Shinjuku (albeit a heavily edited made for TV version of it). As for series it was Tenchi Muyo. I had a dorky weeb friend in Middle School who let me borrow his VHS tapes. Dunno How the hell he got them.

Current favorites right now are Kill La Kill and Coppelion, even though that just ended.
>>
Started with DVD copies of Totoro and Spirited away when I was a kid. My mother lived in Japan for a couple years back before she married my dad, and she introduced us kids a bit to Japanese culture.
Never really got into anime series until very recently. Started by watching Girls Bravo on Netflix because the word 'Bravo' grabbed my attention (there's a taco place around here named Taco Bravo that my group of friends frequent and regard with a cult-like affection) and because it sounded kind of fun. I liked the characters and the offbeat humour, and the music was very good, so I kept looking for more anime's.

The series that really got me into anime was the next one I watched, Welcome to the N.H.K. (also on Netflix). I thought it was one of the greatest things I had ever seen and decided that anime was more enjoyable to me than western television.

I haven't seen too many anime's at this point, but I'm trying to branch out and try new things. As it stands, though, Welcome to the N.H.K is my favourite anime by far. Apparently I like the 'slice of life' stuff the most.

I have always been fascinated by cartoons (my first words were "beep beep"), but middle school threatened to ruin all that for me. I was really isolated and unhappy because all my friends moved to a different school, and I kept getting picked on for being a weirdo and a nerd. I was also at that sad age when I started to seriously worry about looking mature. No matter how much I liked Dexter's Lab and Courage the Cowardly Dog, cartoons were too kiddy.

Fortunately, I was introduced to anime by someone who would be my best friend all through middle school, who would also introduce me to a group of people who would be my only friends during that time. She was a really cool girl who gave no shits, and swore (that was something else she introduced me to, swearing).

I think the first anime I ever watched, besides stuff like Pokemon, was .hack//SIGN. And one of the first manga I ever read was Evangelion. When I looked at Tsukasa and Shinji, I learned to my amazement that I was not alone, that I could understand and connect with these characters. From then on, I couldn't get enough. I went through an intense weeaboo period, dreaming about going to Japan, believing the myth of "mature" Japanese comics and cartoons. Anime soothed my loneliness by giving me access to people, real and fictional, who I could understand and spend time with.

Etrian Odyssey 1 was announced and I wanted to play it, then IOSYS made their FOE video which got me into other IOSYS videos, assorted 2hu garbage and nico nico stuff, which led to me watching the nico nico douga suite, which contained the Busou Renkin OP, and then I wanted to watch Busou Renkin. Was history from there.

I dunno if I can even pick a favorite anime just like that. But I like Baccano, Jormungand, Hyouge Mono, and Kino's Journey a lot.

I always watched dubbed shit like DBZ, Pokemon, Yugioh, etc. But when I was in high school, I decided to watch Yugioh GX and I marathoned it in about a month. After that I saw Code Geass and Yu Yu Hakusho, then I started branching out and watching non-shounen. The rest is history (though I still enjoy both shounen and shoujo).

It started with pokemon, yugioh, and megaman when I was a kid. In middle school I liked Naruto like everyone else and started liking /h/ related stuff. Then one day I was browsing /h/ and someone insisted that I watch TTGL in a yoko thread. I had already seen an episode on sci-fi and thought it was good, so I gave it a shot. I regret it.

>first anime you watched
Ah, I can't really say. If memory serves me right, Digimon, Pokemon, and Dragonball were among the first Anime I watched as a child.
I also watched a number of Anime for some time after that, usually whatever was on Toonami.
And eventually it sort of just grew into something I regularly did online. So "first anime," was one of the three above.

>Series that got you into anime
There wasn't a "first anime that got me into anime," as it was pretty gradual, like I said above.

>he brought some dvd's with him: first 4 episodes of bleach, first 8 episodes of evangelion, voices of a distant star

I don't remember what order I watched them in, but I remember two things very clearly:

Firstly, Evengelion hooked me right from the start. Literally the first scene, where the tanks are positioned on the mountain road and the angel starts walking in through the harbor. I got this nostalgic dreamy feeling, as if I had seen this before, long ago, when things were better.

The second thing I remember clearly was Asuka. I liked absolutely everything about her, the way she carried herself, the way she treated Shinji, her voice. It was like all of my emotions and feelings got transferred from my ex gf into Asuka.

There was no internet at the cabin, but when I got home I remember marathoning the rest of Evangelion on youtube. Its still my favorite anime, and Asuka is still my waifu.
>>
If I count shows I saw ages ago before even knowing what anime was, then I'm not really sure what my first was. DBZ, Trigun, Yu Yu Hakusho, or Sailor Moon are the possibilities. But eventually I got out from under my rock and started watching anime with Ghost Hunt as my first. It's still one of my top 5 shows, but I would consider FMA Brotherhood my favorite right now with Fate/Zero close behind

First dedicated anime besides the customary DBZ or Pokemon answer would probably be Inuyasha back in 2003. Followed that shit on cable every Friday.

>First anime ever watched
Probably DragonBall.
I recall at those times the TV channels were airing a LOT of stuff (CardCaptor Sakura, Kurochan, Doraemon, YuYu, Ranma) so it might not have been the very first one.
But i literally grown up with BD all over the place.

>Show that got you into anime
I'd say NGE.
I know, it's the same for almost a whole generation, but that was the first anime leaving such a huge impression on me, and seeming something "more" than the simple entertainment.

>Favourite show
Hard to say, there have been a lot of shows that i really liked over the years. Having to name one, i'd say Cowboy Bebop, even if it's a taboo on /a/.

From current airing shows: Log Horizon had a slow start, but now it's probably the show i'm waiting the most every week.

Apart from some kiddie stuff like Heidi or Maya the Bee (if you can call that anime), Akira, I guess. Saw it maybe 20 years ago, hated it. It made me assume all anime was about angry assholes yelling at each other at the top of their lungs - so I shunned anime for at least 15 years.

It's weird because I found out I've been watching anime my entire life, right down to the first movie I ever owned on VHS - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thumbelina:_A_Magical_Story

I didn't realize it was anime at the time but I did like it more than all the other Thumbelina adaptations floating around the early 1990s.

I was also seriously addicted to Blockbuster and rented Dragonball: Curse of the Blood Rubies or whatever the dub was basically every weekend. So I was essentially doomed to be a weeaboo. I guess I first became aware of the distinction around the Pokemon boom.

And the thing that sealed the deal forever was Plastic Little.
