Do you watch old anime?
Is Ranma old?
Of course. Because those are the anime that defined my childhood, I take great pleasure in rewatching them with a fresh mind. Old Ghiblis are awesome too.
Oh you ment good anime
You won't see any 90s babbies discussing it.
There are still good anime from 1996-2013 but I just like watching old anime sometimes.
HnK and SDF Macross are masterpieces.
I'm only 22.
CAN'T STOP! HE'S JUST A SOLDIER!
Lupin III, HnK, Urusei Yatsura, Ashita no Joe, Golgo 13... I love the old stuff.
We don't even get violent OVAs anymore. This shit sucks. It was just a fad I suppose.
You just reminded me to download the whole Golgo 13 anime. I've watched the movies already.
It's the definition of manly.
And he has sex ever 10 minutes.
ye i love jojo
same thing goes for non-anime i suppose, movies in general were a lot more violent in the 80's. personally i can't say i particularly miss them
I'm watching Gundam 0079 right now. Started pretty bad but I'm actually enjoying it now.
They were nice to watch when you want to take a break from TV anime.
Jesus Christ, old anime isn't only your boring mecha shit. This shit goes on /m/.
What im watching now
even tho it's 98
Whoa whoa whoa, calm down dude.
I'm watching Trigun right now.
It's old anime so let him discuss it.
>You just reminded me to download the whole Golgo 13 anime. I've watched the movies already.
dat CGI helicopter
I'm currently watching pic related, but it's not subbed so takes me forever since I have to rewatch certain parts a few times
does this count as old anime? it definitely feels older than most of the stuff i'v watched before. Although I like it.
Last thing was gunbuster . Pretty good . I plan to wacht Cobra but i just started Gintama.
Also where do i start gundamu ?
I've never watched the HnK anime but I loved the manga.
I'm currently watching LOTGH, I plan on watching Urusei Yatsura after.
It was only 12 years ago.
is lotgh possible to marathon? admitting that i'm a huge neet and got infinite free time so the length wouldn't be a problem, would it turn out too boring or what?
I prefer to marathon things when I can.
I just watched this mecha called Code Geass in fact
Only LotGH, which I'm watching now. It makes me want to try some others after I'm done though.
oh, so that's not even before 2000. yet when you say 12 years ago it still feels old, god damnit. Anyway it felt older to me - i think i'm too used to recent animation.
i certainly don't think it would be too boring, but it would be one long ass marathon
Someone will fall for this bait.
If can stand the poor animation and QUALITY, watch the first Gundam I guess.
On the whole I like anime made before 1990 better than more recent stuff.
I've been watching it since last week and I am currently on episode 86. If you plan watching it, start with the first two movies, and marathon until they change the Op.
But Cutey Honey is bad.
I like how in one of the early chapters, Kenshiro waits for the night to come, because according to him, his martial arts are those of the stealthy assassins. That logic obviously goes straight out of the window after that. Still makes me laugh thinking about it.
A few of them.
Fist of the North Star
>where do i start gundamu ?
At the beginning.
Did you like it?
YYH is pretty old and I still enjoy watching it. Nothing else comes to mind that I actively revisit.
Unless you strictly watch action-packed shounen then you should be able to enjoy binge watching it.
It's not a high quality anime by any means, but it is deliciously campy, a very entertaining cartoon if you like that sort of thing.
When you're invincible there's little need for stealth.
I'm happy to watch old anime as long as the story is good like LotGH or is well-made like Akira. I've been looking for some well animated and directed shows of old, Gosenzosama Banbanzai is on my backlog at the moment.
Sounds like a huge waste of time. Time that would be better spent actually watching interesting anime or reading interesting manga if you want to educate yourself. Gundamns were glorified commercials to sell toys to kids.
As I said, I loved it. Kenshiro is a badass invicible motherfucker but the manga was a really fun read regardless.
I started with Build Fighters and watched 08th MS team after three episodes because I'm a rebel.
>Gundamns were glorified commercials to sell toys to kids.
that's what mecha is all about, but the old gundam series, and other mecha as well for that matter, are still worth watching
I'll probably try that then, thank you
Actually most of my favorites aren't really action-packed or shounen so i think it should be okay.
Still is, just look at Build Fighters. GBF is one hell of a fun anime with a great OST though.
Does anyone have any cool North Star gifs that they could share?
Why would anyone want to watch Gundam?
It is without a doubt the most pretentious anime franchise ever made, trying to actually portray war in a mature fashion with two fucking plastic toys smashing into each other all the while touching on only the most one-dimensional aspects of war (people die omg).
Also Tomino is a omega-class faggot who kills off characters and generally acts like a retard because he admits he's mentally sick and it prevents him from acting out real crazily in real life. Why is this hack praised and not locked up and ridiculed? I can't understand it.
Never underestimate the importance of stealth and camouflage.
I've only ever read the manga and it was an ugly and pretty gross suckfest. I'm sure it probably translates well into animation but I was really just bored with the whole thing by the end.
It's a sad thing to say that a glorified toy commercial is one of the better written war dramas in anime. Gundam is no LoGH, but the writing in there sure as hell beats out most of the horseshit we get today.
Just picked up the BD recently. A fantastic movie.
>Jonathan's head takes it's body back from Dio.gif
Nobody remembers it but me.
This reminds me of the reaction of SnKfags when Tomino talked shit about their show. Tomino was right then and he's still right now.
What did he say?
It's in my backlog I'll watch it soon I promise
I remember dropping it
Escaflowne was a better fantasy anime.
>Do you watch old anime?
>Innovative mobile suit designs
00's mobile suits looked silly though, they almost look like Bayformers even
>wasted potential in universe and plot design, unconvincing drama
complaint SEED has surely applies to 00 too? The story is hot garbage, people just seem to like some of the ideas behind it
Power leveling, the blessing and curse of fighting mangas
I don't think there will ever be another over-the-top campy fighting manga with Hara's art, which sometimes give an unexpected deadpan hilarity
like fuck it was
>but I was really just bored with the whole thing by the end.
That's pretty much how I felt after watching the anime.
Didn't help that it was cancelled before it got a conclusion.
Cutie Honey is still pretty fun, it's just that when you watch a few episodes it's fun, but when you watch them all it's repetitive.
>Thinking you're the only one
Old man yells at cloud.jpg
One of the best.
Speaking of Cutie Honey, is this any good?
The OP is pretty good at least.
Lodoss was a pretty bad attempt at transposing DnD RPGs into anime. I wouldn't be surprised if it bombed hard.
I just started Cobra pretty recently, ended up really loving it
Any other Future Boy Conan fans here?
It's alright, not as good as the original, but a lot better than the second TV series. That OP is the best part.
Apparently he lambasted SnK as being a Freudian example of repressed anger towards bullies in the past, and unbecoming of a manga series.
Its absolutely bizarre and everyone treated it as a senile moment
>endeavor to watch as many shows as possible every season, and even then there are tons of shows I don't see three episodes of as per the rule
>have been watching anime seasons regularly for ten years
>realize that there are tons of obscure anime from the darkness of pre-internet history that will go untranslated until the end of time
>most of it isn't even available on the internet in any form
damn japan, you crazy
>that feel when you are over 30 years old
his statement on evangelion is a lot funnier in my opinion, when he goes on about not being able to accept any series that doesn't "encourage the viewers to work happily until they die" or something similar
Despite being so influential on the face of Shonen did we ever REALLY get another protag like Kenshiro?
Where have all the good men gone?
I liked it the best out of all the honeys.
But I know people will disagree with me on that.
Either way, three episodes with a nice retro feel to it. Kinda too short and they have to pack a lot in, but it's still pretty satisfying.
what do you expect listening to the ramblings of an old insane man?
he's been coasting off of the success of Gundam for the past 40 years and thinks the entire anime industry and world at large owes him praise.
They turned into guys like this.
He is the genius who brought ZZ gundam into the world. Do not question the master.
>lyrics to the OP are 'THIS IS NO ANIME'
The exact moment Gundam became so pretentious it went bordered on parody
Hey, I watched episodes in random orders cause they were at the the local rental shop. Shampoo is the best.
Mai waifu since 1995.
Berserk is the living legacy of Hokuto no Ken and Rose of Versailles. Feels good to have both of them in your favorites.
Phantom Blood and Battle Tendency were basically HnK in different settings. JJBA's writing/story structure turned to shit after that though, unfortunately, Araki seemingly traded in his whatever writing skill he had for really creative/weird ideas.
as much as i like both berserk and rose of versailles i'm having major trouble making the connection here
Don't knock Diamond is Unbreakable and Steel Ball Run.
Did Miura seriously draw that?
Oh god the irony of Berserk fags being the most consistent detractors of HnK for all these years.
Steel Ball Run is the best Jojo.
What the hell does Berserk and HnK have in common beyond angry really strong protagonist? I guess there's the effeminate best friend betrays him and takes his woman but still that's pretty broad. Guts and Ken are polar opposites in terms of character.
First time I tried watching it, I could only find it in .rmvb, so I only watched a couple then deleted.
Still haven't gotten around to watching it
>but still that's pretty broad
Uh, no it's fucking not.
Well, it's called being inspired by something, not plagiarizing existing works. Of course Guts and Kenshiro are totally different.
The era of MAN characters is over.
Diamond is Unbreakable is literally a string of barely connected random-but-cool shit he could think of
Steel Ball Run was mostly good, only took him like 15 years though. though the Soundman shit bothered the hell outta me. As did who-know-who's shoehorned appearance at the end
Monsley is the best Miyazaki girl.
Yes it is. You see that type of story all the time in random shit. HnK didn't invent it.
>Diamond is Unbreakable is literally a string of barely connected random-but-cool shit he could think of
You forgot that it has the best cast, best stands, and best villain.
Now Miura i busy with idolshit games or drawing lolis.
Shit! Muh nostalgia affect me now...
Berserk is old and busted, Gingantomakhia is the new hotness.
That was legitimately bad, Araki clearly had changed his mind about how he wanted the story to go and wanted to drop that character. Reminded me of Amiba/Toki in the Hokuto no Ken manga - originally Amiba was actually supposed to be an insane Toki and this was made clear in the manga. The author changed his mind halfway through and had Rei appear out of nowhere and explain/force a retcon into the story.
Uchuu Senkan Yamato (seasons 1-to-3)
Legend of the Galactic Heroes
that old enough?
I was always happy to see that whenever they made a new FOTNS work (no matter how bad) they never 'modernized' Kenshiro's character to appeal to modern trends. His personality and characterization are very conservative and outdated now but everyone knows to keep him the way he should be.
it was the go-to anime in the 90s, but its pace doesn't really hold up to modern shows and doesn't offer much in terms of waifu wars, so unless you have nostalgia goggles for it or like Ukyo then it will be disappointing
So how do I watch digimon, what are the ones in the series that are good, and do I go subs only?
Ah Jesus that looks like shit
Men died the moment we accepted FREE! and anyone who liked it.
Digimon Aventure and Tamers are good and I prefer the subbed version. Frontier was okay until the shitty Royal Knights arc.
actually free! is the modern version of hokuto no ken. it embodies the same ideals
>Did Miura seriously draw that?
What? No it's from some bonus page from Young Animal (the magazine publishing Berserk) in which we learn or confirm interesting tidbits like the fact that Miura and Kôji Mori (Holyland, Suicide Island) were classmates, the original Band of the Hawks members were partly inspired by Miura's high school classmates, etc. And yes, Miura did draw inspiration from HnK and RoV who were some of his favorite manga. Of course when you read "inspiration" it could mean only as much as appearance wise. You can't deny Guts and Griffith are like two diametrically opposed worlds clashing into one. Guts being the epitome of manliness and Griffith being the aesthetic bishonen.
Occasionally, although I'd like to watch a lot more.
I just recently watched the OVA Genmu Senki Leda. I really enjoyed it.
He can't even protect his woman
That's the main basis behind his character. I didn't say he couldn't and didn't fuck up at times.
I do know for a fact that the creator of Vinland Saga was directly inspired to even enter the industry thanks to HnK
>In a January 2008 interview, Yukimura revealed that he was inspired to enter the manga industry by reading the manga Fist of the North Star as a boy. In the same interview, he said he had always wanted to produce a series which reflected the same themes of "strength and justice".
>Themes: bishounen, fanservice,
Oh yeah its exactly like Hokuto no Ken
Sure, but he's not manly.
Hokuto no Ken had plenty of fanservice and general homoeroticism though.
>wants to write about strength and justice
did he not seem to realize the entirety of HnK is basically Ken KILLING guys who are approximate to wasteland vikings?
So what influenced the whole farming thing?
Not hating on it, I'm genuinely interested
>Do you watch old anime?
I tried to watch serial experiments lain but i just couldn't take that Neanderthal aspect ratio and encoding no matter how i tried
so no, i don't watch old anime, I cannot stomach it.
>Sure, but he's not manly.
Name one manlier character than Guts, bar Kenshiro.
Anyone watch Cream Lemon?
>so no, i don't watch old anime, I cannot stomach it.
Note that this reaction image is in God's Own Aspect Ratio.
what if Kenshiro went into the world of Kill la Kill?
>Serial Experiments Lain
Is this what /a/ has become? This is a new low.
Pretty much any character who does a decent job of protecting people they care about
Naruto is better at that than Guts is
so is Yotsuba's dad, all things considered
Guts is a chump, dude. Nothing wrong with that though so don't worry about it.
Four By Three Is the new Black And White.
If it's not New, It's Old. New things come in correct aspect ratios for Human Beings.
Kenshiro a shit.
>aspect ratios for Human Beings.
Forgive me for not being born in 2005.
I bet you wouldn't even touch Galaxy Express or Yamato just to not sully your virgin eyes.
Nobody could beat him.
I watch more old anime than new.
I don't know if it was your intent to make me upset or something, but your definition of manliness sure is something.
16:9 is significantly closer to the nominal natural vision aspect ratio of human beings with two eyes.
16:9 gets you something like 30% more anime than 4:3 which necessarily requires
* stretching the video (unacceptable)
* black bars (acceptable but wastes space)
* zoom crop (almost never acceptable)
and let's not even going into the absolutely GOD AWFUL resolution, bitrate, encoding, audio (encoding), etc that old releases have
anime is probably the medium that most benefits from technology advancement which is why everyone is so elitist about 'muh madVR'
you cannot justify this elitism along with your propensity to watch 4:3 old animes. you cannot have your cake and eat it too.
No man can serve two masters. You can either support the di/a/z "way of life, or be a nostalgiafag and watch technologically inferior things
Shit like Satsuki and the elites are basically what Kenshiro has a gold star in blowing the fuck out.
Implying 95%+ of /a/ doesn't agree with Diaz and his hi10p, MadVR, mkv dogma (it is technically superior, yes)
the term perfectly encapsulates the movement
video quality means nothing, content is everything. such is the nostalgiafag creed
On a related note what is the oldest manga you guys have read?
As for me, Lupin III and Ishinomori's Kamen Rider
>Find a new shounen to watch
>Enjoy many of them
>Still can't top HnK
It's Daiz you faggot. If you're gonna suck his epenis at least get his name right.
the problem is the vast majority of old things are terrible, just like the vast majority of new things. actually often the old things are slightly more terrible.
but nostalgia blinds them and clouds their judgement, making them think old things were not terrible
this false belief must be corrected
You can't reason with those yougins.
Lupin for me too.
Yes, quite often.
Besides JoJo (which pretty much veered off into its own direction) nothing has hit the same notes as HnK since all they do is parrot DBZ instead.
I was trying to avoid summoning him
now just look what you've invoked
>actually often the old things are slightly more terrible.
How would you know if you haven't even watched Lain which is from 1998, I doubt you've even considered watching anything from the 70's. You're stand on the quality of the content of old anime is based on baseless assumptions.
sturgeon's law doesn't change anon, also sturgeon was wrong, the actual % is past 90
You can't talk of a medium you haven't even started exploring.
Old Anime I'm Currently watching:
Baoh: The Visitor, Crying Freeman, Dominion Tank Police, Jojo's Bizarre Adventure (1993 and 2000), Doomed Megalopolis
I'm going though a mild Miyazaki phase(Porco Rosso, Luputa: Castle in the Sky, Nausicca, Princess Mononoke)
Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie(1994), Vampire Hunter D(1985) Wicked City (1987)
Cowboy Bebop, The DIC dub of Sailor Moon (really, is it worth watching the Japanese?) Fist of the North Star, Nazca (1998)
I think I've found I like old anime better than new. Not that I'm an elitist, but I find that you need a few years to see if it's really good or not.
Actually the nice thing about it is that it applies to everything, everyone, every idea, every concept, every tangible object
>you will never find a listenable rip of the end theme
It's spelled Laputa and Nausicaa, champ.
my favorite gundam is Gundam 00
because that's the only Gundam I watched
If there's an abridge version of it maybe I will.
I like the MS Gundam one.
actually it's spelled nausicaä. my autism is the stronger one
Wait, you actually think that actually has any objective, scientific value?
Are you perhaps majoring in liberal arts or you're just clinically retarded?
That show's the fucking best. My brother and I even named our cat Gourry.
Nope, I just think the vast, vast, majority of everything ever created is absolute shit.
Actually that's pretty much 4chan's/the internet's ethos when you get down to it.
(I guess for 4chan add "and anyone who likes it should feel bad")
I watched Master of Martial Hearts yesterday if that counts.
Sorry, you were joking. I thought you were actually defending a point.
It seems I just can't get jokes anymore.
Unless you count a new Jojo every now and again... nope.
>I watched Master of Martial Hearts yesterday if that counts.
I hope this is bait.
I honor his memory in my video games.
>I just think the vast, vast, majority of everything ever created is absolute shit.
When you start to think that way, usually everything does turn out to be shit.
>Sailor Moon (really, is it worth watching the Japanese?)
>Megumi Ogata in her best role later on
>no pointless cuts
>fanservice left in
>incidental music intact
>OP and ED animations and music
I'm not going to be rude to you because any Sailorbro is a friend of mine, but dude, you are missing out.
The 90% figure is probably nothing more than the result of the % of charletons, fakes, con men, and weak willed people in the world
>one person makes something good
>said person gets well deserved credit/fame/money for it
>for every 1 geniuine person it attracts it attracts 9 people looking to exploit the situtation
Is that the one with the loli?
>Dominion Tank Police
>dat unabashedly cheesy europop opening
It's not old. Watch more fucking anime.
I watched Venus Wars a while ago
Of course. I'm currently watching Maison Ikkoku, Panzer World Galient, and Layzner (waiting for subs).
Old to me is last season.
Get on my level.
Last thing I finished was Aura Battler Dunbine, which I actually enjoyed quite a bit, and I don't normally like Tomino shows (not because of the death count, but because I usually don't like Tomino's directorial approach to telling stories).
Normally most of the old stuff I watch ends up being OVAs and movies though. I'm usually not in the mood to invest myself in shows that run for fifty or more episodes unless the story manages to keep moving at a good clip (Saint Seiya managed to string me along for 70-some episodes with its cliffhangers.)
It's only notable for being in the theme to Malcolm in the Middle
Drop it asap
Does Utena count as old?
This. Plus the last season (Stars) was never dubbed in English, so unless you're planning to watch it in Spanish or something, go find the original.
Greatest story ever told.
>old not being anything aired last week
no anon you are the pleb
It's about 15 years old, so yeah, it's old
I only watch anime airing on the day. I'm a 2ch level otaku.
>ink and paint.
It's sure as fuck classic.
God, I remember buying that on VHS and watching it with my MOM. Good thing I didn't make it past the beginning of the Black Rose arc while I still lived at home, or I can imagine it would've gotten awkward fast.
>2ch level otaku
That's the same level as a 4chan level otaku.
If it came out before Evangelion, it's old.
I don't like old anime because it looks genuinely terrible. I watch stuff for the story, so I end up watching some anyway.
Metropolis by Osamu "God of Manga" Tezuka from 1949.
It's really cartoony, not like the 2001 movie adaptation which is much more serious. It's also apperent how much Tezuka liked Walt Disney, Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck look alike make several appearances throughout the book.
That's an interesting question. What was the last major anime (not counting indie stuff, or recent ones where they made it by hand because they could like Ponyo) to be hand-animated? I'd guess Noir, but feel free to correct me.
>I don't like old anime because it looks genuinely terrible
Some of the most gorgeous anime out now have garbage characters/stories.
What does that tell you?
>Neanderthal aspect ratio
>incestuous crossdressing trappish lesbian bitchslapping elephants
Even the beginning is strange, anon.
I judge it by whether it's done with cels or not. Then again I don't know when exactly everything started switching to digital.
I watched Dunbine a few years ago, and have been rewatching each episode, week by week, on the day it aired 30 years ago. Next Tuesday is the finale.
It's a good show, but it has a lot of filler. However, the filler is less noticeable when you're watching one episode per week.
That's precisely the reason I compromise and watch some older stuff despite my preference not to.
It doesn't say anything at all really, and doesn't really have anything to do with what he said.
Old anime can be jarring at first but usually after a few episodes I don't notice the things that bugged me at first.
Sometimes getting past those few first episodes can be rough though. Tried rewatching Guyver (First anime I ever saw, rented from blockbuster on VHS) could not do it.
Yes, not mention it's movie adaptation Project A-ko
If girls had noses, it's old.
To be fair, Guyver is really pulpy trash, even for its time
Overall, the best space-based anime series came from the 1980s-1990s.
And then died shortly after.
>Some of the most gorgeous anime out now have garbage characters/stories.
Pic not related.
Funny thing about Metropolis is that Tezuka was never really proud of it, and didn't want it animated at all.
Hence why when Rintaro made the film he waited for Tezuka to die so he wouldn't have to get his permission to make it.
yeah, the 80's were all about space
KnK sucked ass.
>i have no idea how licenses work
I'm just going based on what I heard Rintaro say in an interview around 2002.
Yeah we all know you jumped on the shitpost wagon, watched 40 minutes of the show after deciding it was kyoanus shit, then complained about things that didn't make sense or were all explained later.
>tfw Shinya Hasegawa doesn't get to character design anything any more, and when he does it looks nothing like his style once the overseas animators are done with it
And that's when he's not being wasted on garbage like Kill Me Baby.
>Mamoru Oshii will never make comedy again
He waited a lot longer than that, though. Also it appears that the real reason he waited so long was so he could employ large amounts of CGI.
It should be noted that the movie bears little resemblance to the Manga and probably is more comparable to the Fritz Lang film of the same name.
I watched every episode.
It was shit.
It only was watchable for the delicious Christmas cakes/milfs.
I wouldn't go as far as saying they died, just that the number of good stories are few and far between now.
I still consider this one of the better series of the 2000s.
Yeah, I love Code Lyoko
Is this any good? Aside from the antagonist being the inspiration for M.Bison, is it worth watching?
>I judge it by whether it's done with cels or not. Then again I don't know when exactly everything started switching to digital.
i might be talking out of my ass here, but i vaguely remember hearing that sazae-san was the last anime to use cels, and that they stopped doing so fairly recently
I have this downloaded and will be watching it in the coming weeks. How does it compare to Nadesico? Because I fucking loved Nadesico.
Did you know he was descended from Hattori Hanzo?
Oh, I can't honestly say I've seen someone who only watched it with their dick before.
Try watching with your eyes and ears open and focused on more than the women.
It's a really good show, and without spoilering anything, I will say that its final space battle is probably the greatest one ever.
Supposedly it was Tezuka's inhuman work ethic that influenced the current tight deadlines and hefty workloads that most manga authors and animators work under. to the point where some hate him for that.
This is probably another example of nostalgia again but are there any magical girls that are as fappable as the original sailor scouts?
Who wouldn't want to bang Miki? Hottest girl.
Who Vifam here?
Unless you count Cutey Honey (and I don't), no way.
That fucking token loli, Chibi Moon I think her name was? One very valid reason to never pick up that series, nostalgia notwithstanding.
I enjoyed it
One that immediately comes to mind is Nurse Angel Ririka
My brother of black complexion.
Dude she's like 10.
At least you could have said Sakura.
Man the end of that show was BAAAWWWWWW.
>there will never be an OVA as perfect as Mad Bull 34
KIMI WO, KIMI WO
KOKORO DE MITSUMETEIRU
You sure about that?
that scene where they crossdress to catch some rapist gang is the best. mad bull forever
This anime had a bad case of SAY MY NAME, but I loved it nonetheless.
She's actually 13 (19 in transformed form). It's kind of an important plot point.
>no mentions of Dirty Pair
faggots, all of you
I personally have a soft spot for violent 80's movies.
They're neck and neck, though Angel Cop actually had a budget, plus this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oDdr-1iOqag
And does anyone of a rip that has accurate (read: full-on antisemitic) subs for the whole show?
Dropped after the first episode when I realized it wouldn't be an anime about dirty underwear.
Watching Votoms, this is the best thing I've seen for months.
I flew halfway across the country once to see Maaya Sakamoto at an anime convention. Hearing her yell "VAN! USHIRO!" in her panel when someone asked her to do a line from Escaflowne made every minute and every penny spent getting there worth it.
I'm like 80% sure this is the worst anime I've ever seen. Maybe in the top 5
>cyber city oedo
>dat UK soundtrack
Probably the only time where a replacement soundtrack was better than the original music, sans maybe the opening.
A life without a single regret.
>the worst anime
Didn't have to fly halfway across the country, but the fact that got to see Maaya Sakamoto, Mari Iijima, and Megumi Hayashibara perform live over the course of just a few years made otherwise shitty conventions rather bearable.
Not even close.
It's so macross.
Anyone watch Super Express Hikarian
Riki-Oh and Kenshiro are practically the same person.
I don't like it, it's absolutely soulless and has no character.
>Hating the glorious original soundtrack
Most of my favorite anime/manga are older serie.
For some reason, I just love them, because because you can always see a bit of the times in them, no matter what kind of series it is. You can watch almost any futuristic 80s series, and you'll find that no one has anything like a cellphone around.
I like seeing what the characters do for fun, and how they deal with communication without cellphones. Not that I hate cellphone, but they've had a big impact on how things are done these days, that I like to take notice of it.
Besides that, there's so much gold out there, great series that has a great run, and without any of the nuiances that I dislike in current anime. No LN garbage, no shit about little sisters, no harem nonsense.
But at the same time, it makes me said. There' a lot of creativity and great stories, and they just pass through time like nothing. No one else talks about them. No one else remembers them. Unless it was a runaway hit, there's no reunion special, no remake, nothing. No one else remembers it but you. Imagine being the fan of an OVA or something back then, that's all you've got. I guess like everyone else, you've got to move on, but it's like finding out about a gold rush after it's already happened
But of course, it's easy to get disillusioned. When I turn back to watch something old, I can watch whatever I want and the series has already been completed, I'm not watching everything
Are you really going to fucking argue that the technological prowess of the medium of a piece of art is what makes it superior? I guess CGI models are better than La Pieta (ha, stone is a Neanderthal material) and Kill la Kill is a masterpiece of literature superior to the works of Shakespeare, which were written on paper (that's not even 16:9 lol pleb). Not to even mention the fact that hand drawn cels are still the objectively superior format in terms of upscaling and video quality.
Your post is hands down the most autistic I have seen in years on 4chan and I really recommend you commit suicide.
What is the name of the anime with the guy who wear tiny glasses and has spiky hair an wears a green tank top again?
does he also have a guitar and eats leaves and pilots a vf?
I watched old anime 20+ years ago, when I was young.
Do I want to listen to his song?
I watched Wizardry yesterday after completing the game.
Basara from Macross 7
I kept telling myself it was macross, but couldn't recall which. I forget 7 even exists.
What is /a/'s opinion on Ideon?
How could you forget about Macross 7? It's got more animated content associated with it than any other series in the franchise.
I watch my Gendams and am currently half way through Dancouga
I wish Dancouga was good so I could bear watching it for the VA cast.
eh, I think its alright. Picked it up when I was on a SRW kick
Be Invoked is one of my all-time favorite anime movies
There should be a guide or an image guide for newer generations, so they could look into the past and read awesome manga.
The first season was really fun. Especially since I was drinking the whole time and my reactions were far too generous. HNK2 was a bit hard to watch after they went to the island though. That was only bearable due to my drinking.
I've been meaning to watch it, but I have too much on my plate already.
Char being a general dick to the Zabis makes this incredibly satisfying. Oh and...once the episodes of 0079 are mass produced....
The Hakkenden worth checking out?
They all died along with your hopes for this world as a child.
It's fun watching stuff like Crusher Joe or old Cyberpunk anime and seeing how primitive the supposedly futuristic computers operate.
I have the entire Slayers collection. Slowly but surely combing through it. It's really fun. Seen bits and pieces of the original as a child, glad to have my mitts on the whole series, good times.
That's the dub though.
Whatever Happened to the Vinny Mac? Two volumes in and the manga was dropped ;_;
How is Urusei Yatsura? Is it worth the near 200 episode watch? I sort of want to see the film of it which oshii directed most of all.
>missing the huge-ass threads we have yearly for Lodoss.
I promise you, if you are alive in 30 years and still watching anime, I will bring this character archetype back to the forefront.
The Oshii film is pretty fine to watch alone, assuming everyone has the basic idea of the love triangle for lulz dynamics that are the premise.
Do you consider this old?
The good old days, back when Kawamoto designs still looked like Kawamoto.
(Did you know he did Noragami? Yeah, me neither.)
>The DIC dub of Sailor Moon (really, is it worth watching the Japanese?)
Definitely, as long as you accept that it's completely different and many parts of it won't be as good as they are in DiC's version (which I still very much like and will willingly defend), though naturally there are tons of things that more then make up for this. The fact that there is no evil Negaverse and each of the villains have their own individual motivations and reasons for their actions alone makes it worth watching.
If you really liked Jupiter for instance, the Japanese will likely disappoint you with how her character is handled. On the other hand, Mercury and Mars are enormously better characters.
I read HnK while it still had the gap in the manga. Project Bite Me closed that gap, right? Is the complete version on Batoto, Bakabt, AB, etc. to download?
HnK is garbage.
Yes, Space Pirate Captain Harlock is good.
Too bad it was never finished.
i love you pai ;_;
Every car I've ever owned has been a stick shift.
This is why.
>the show's actual animation
I'm ashamed to admit it, but sometimes when I try to watch pre-80s stuff the art style and shit res really does get to me, I've dropped some shows I really wanted to watch for this reason.
I wonder if they'll remake HnK.
There is one Obari as fuck episode.
Arcadia of my Youth is better than the show.
Best sub group that's still active.
They've been active for ages. Their old release of Rose of Versailles is absolutely awful but I guess that's the fault of the raws rather than them.
