It's finally been done. Net neutrality is over. ISPs can now block any website and lock them behind a paywall.
Which got me to thinking:

>big daddy ISP checking my most used sites
>hundreds of hours and traffic on nyaa and exhentai
>blocks them
>tries to charge me monthly for them

We need to start downloading the entirety of exhentai like right now and upload every manga on a safe site like mega.co or something
>>
Or you could just live somewhere that isn't shit.
>>
>>100255296
>implying they wouldn't try Sekai Seifuku

So if one ISP decided to not paywall shit, wouldn't everyone flock to them?

I used to go to Adult Swim for Venture Brothers and Robot Chicken. Then they teamed up with the ISPs and made it so you can't watch full episodes without an internet AND television subscription (essentially like giving an all-electric house a gas bill because their appliances can do something that gas appliances traditionally handled). I haven't been back since, and it has been a few years since, so they might have reversed it. But the fact that they tried something like that, makes me suspect they'll do anything for more money.

That would be possible if it wasn't for the completely ridiculous and stupid way our internet tubes are managed. As it is there are a couple of very large media companies running most of America's ISPs and these companies have collaborated under a unique partnership so that they can share ownership of the infrastructure together and crush any small competitors that try to encroach on their territory with lawsuits and bullshit laws they have proposed.

The FCC is hardly innocent itself also, they're full of these same scumbags. Basically we're trusting these pieces of shit to propose rules that they can use to manage themselves.

Wont happen in a lot of places. Everything here focuses on being a monopoly, and companies like Comcast will not let smaller guys into their territory through money, bullying, and loopholes in the law. The only choice most of us have is one big shitty provider or the other big shitty provider.
Sure, there's satellite, but it's slow, expensive, and the latency is retarded. Outside of that, there's really no other option.

The only thing in the near future that we know of is Google, but they're only doing major cities, everyone else wont see them for a few years to come. And even then, with the rate Google is going, they'll be just as bad as other providers.

While this is certainly a step in the wrong direction, here are a few points to brighten your day.

>FCC has a history of winning rulings over VZ including 4g throttling and 4g mobile hotspot payment requirements
AKA they can't throttle 4g and can't do shit if you download a mobile hotspot app without paying for their contract to do so because their contract isn't legally binding since they don't actually own the 4g towers.

>appeals court
IIRC there is at least one more court of appeals before this reaches the Supreme court, who would almost certainly strike this down.

>legality
Do you want to be the first ISP to tell Facebook that you are charging users to access their site? Enjoy your ensuing court battles over charging people to access a site you don't own. Far different than just charging for internet access as a whole.

>outcry
The first ISP to implement throttling/paywall is going to lose a large part of their marketshare, as consumers leave and investors pull out. Nobody will want to be the first, as the first will take a large financial hit.

Currently nothing changes but if you rely on services that are from America or that Americans use it might inadvertently affect you. This doesn't apply to anime or piracy in general in the first place though, it only applies to "legal" traffic. ISPs are free to fuck up bittorrent/P2P traffic even if it's legal because there's no way to discern legal from not without physically checking every file

I went to a nice middle-class school in a nice area.

The worst that has ever happened within a 10 mile radius of where I live was a guy who got into a fight with his girlfriend and got stabbed in the hand with a potato peeler.

It's not like the USA where the chances of being attacked daily are 100%, even if you live in the nicest areas.

Very rarely. The government knows that there's only a handful of people that do the ripping, cracking, and uploading, and that getting them is a better use of resources.
Catching some random neckbeard for pirating porn and the latest battlefield isn't one of their concerns.

Though it does happen. Every time is just because they need to make an example of someone.

"Prioritize" does not mean "block" or "charge for."

And while I can totally imagine the cunts at comcast or rcn getting confused and mixing those up, cable isn't your only option if you have a cell tower near enough to get reception. So there is competition from verizon and clearwire and etc.

Whereas in other countries, the jerk in charge personally owns all the private media companies so you're stuck with only one person you're allowed to get your news from.

And anyway, as for the anime, the FCC doesn't like bittorrent or piracy much, remember their primary responsibility is guarding against nipple slips and four-letter words. They're ratings cops. They still occasionally drive vans around looking for gypsy radio stations, I guess, but whatever.

Often I find that Supermarkets are the most prone to being fucking retarded with these rules and IDing for stupid things. Languages aren't harder or easier to learn, it all depends on how exposed you are to it and which languages you already know.
English is "easy" to learn because you can even stay home on the internet and be exposed to thousands of English speakers instantly. English is everywhere, in movies, in videogames, all that.
Japanese is actually easier to learn than many other languages for the same reasons.

I personally didnt mind my TV license as I really like the BBC and its programes and doumentaries. However recently after how the BBC squanders all the cash it receives came to light I have been less impressed.

Anyways, its just one tax. We dodge many that other countries have in place.

To be honest, you can't really judge a country until you've spent a significant amount of time there. >>
>>100260532
I will concede that Hanzi/Kanji is much more difficult to learn, but you can also make educated guesses about the meaning and pronounciation of a character based on its constituent radicals (and likewise guess the pronounciation and meaning of a word based on its characters). It's very easy to make spelling errors or to misunderstand words because of their spelling in English, and that's just piled on top of the various other inconsistencies.

English is just a very irregular language, and that makes it hard to fully learn as a second language.

I don't see how this changes anything. The ISPs always had this power, and if they suddenly become as draconian as the cable companies people will bail on them.

Because the internet is different from cable. Cable TV was never as open and free as the internet, there was never a time when people didn't pay for shitty bundles of channels they didn't want, and had to upgrade service just to get the two or three channels they did want.

If ISPs tried starting this shit now, the first company to do it will lose customers in droves. Once they out themselves as an enemy of free, unrestricted internet they will commit public image suicide.

Cable companies are the major ISPs in the US, and usually there aren't any other options because people switched in droves to them when they first started offering internet bundled with cable and phone service or else smaller ISPs got sued to death or bought up. In many places there are not many options, and where there are it's generally amongst multiple big cable company ISPs.

You're not thinking on a large scale. So the small town people can't switch. City people can, and there's a lot more of them.

The ISPs won't all move at the same time, one will go first, and when that happens people will switch en masse (the ones who can anyway). It doesn't matter if the small town people can't switch, they aren't a competitive market anyway, it's the city people who have the ability to choose their provider that the ISPs care about.

>>
>>100261375

Correct.

The reason they are in the news so much isnt because of their high numbers but because of their low numbers. The historical residents blowing everything out of proportion due to not liking their new neighboors.

Take the UK for example. It was and still is a great trading hub and was the centre of the biggest Empire the world has ever seen. However, despite this its population is still 86% White in the last census.

>yes, like everything that eliminates competition.
This eliminates competition in a different way, everyone would stop using home internet and just browse facebook off their smart phone and stop using other websites except maybe like amazon and wikipedia. ISPs would lose a huge amount of profit (by which I mean users) and as a result so would the websites trying to profit off the damn thing.

I for example casually play a few big name online video games and visit few other semi-popular websites, if I were to be charged extra to do this I would just be like "fuck that" and stop. Chances are a crap ton of people would do the same.

You can't just weed out competition like you would a competitor, the internet functions as a network between people. Kill the health of the network and you're just going to kill your profit as well.

They wouldn't move straight to blocking. They'd start with throttling and offering "premium" websites (maybe a special section of Amazon or something) under their name packaged with deals. And then, once the consumers got used to that, they'd start continuously testing the waters to see if consumers were willing to tolerate being stripped of more of their freedom by giving them something in return until they got an affirmative answer.

You need these regulations to combat the consumer's addiction to convenience.

Yeah well there's nothing that can really be done about it, with so many idiots. Its the same reason the current population of SRS exists. That place also used to be satire, look what it is now. A hivemind of idiots trying to stop hating by hating.

>>100262732
I see it going both ways but that anon only seemed to be upset that anti-Americanism wasn't as popular anymore.
>>

The ones that dont want to carry them and Police by Consent?

One of the funny facts about British police is that the Brit public can get all fussy and complain about them for various things but when foreigners come here, the first thing they say after having any dealings with them is "I cant believe your police were so nice. In my country I would have gotten the shit kicked out of me, gun pulled on me, treated like shit"
>>
>>100262866
Welcome to modern 4chan.
>>
>>100262694
The funny thing is, in America all the police have guns and I wouldn't trust 90% of them with one.

Nationalism is definitely new, because the misanthropy has always been the 4chan way.

Policing by Concent, not Policing by Force.

Its a romantic and old fashioned notion. One that has its problems and one that can lead to a very entitled public but one that is ultimately extremely nice.

It happened right around the time that the rest of America became self-serving assholes.

American cops are what happens when you give self-centered, "why should I" conservatives a badge and a gun.

Because it should really be on the appropriate shitposting boards, >>>/int/ and >>>/sp/.

I miss the days when the only form of mention of where we were from would be things like Anonymous of Sweden's incest stories.
>>
>>100263054

They did have the tools. They had a radio to keep the control room fully updated so when the Armed Police with the tools arrived, it was over in a matter of seconds and done with a surgical accuracy and timing.

Rather than just blunder in gung ho and try and have a pistol shoot out that results in injured and dead police and dead suspects that cant answer for their crimes.

Exercising restraint and then dealing with it with surgical force > all out aggression
>>
>>100262965
And, as much bullshit and stupidity is on their huge boards, Reddit is essentially the new old 4chan.
>>
>UK doesn't care about loli!

That's the same thing that they said about Canada, until some poor sod got arrested for the sex positions image that isn't even considered loli on 90% of the internet.

Oh, but it's true. There were several polls taken through last year and the number of people who voted in each poll who were around from 2007 and before made up like 10% of the population, 2008-10 about 20% and 11-13 were the other 70%. roughly.
>>
>>100262756
It's not satire since that implies you don't agree with it. You can have an opinion, yet still be self-aware and poke fun at it. You and that anon seem shocked that not everyone on 4chan is American hating liberals. Yet anime is neither liberal nor anti-American, so why would you expect that in the first place?
>>
>>100263073

Indeed it does. Which is a good thing. Public needs to trust its police.

And what is even more funny is when scumbags mistake the police's politeness for beta-ness and try to get in their face/start shit. They get put down fucking hard.

Thing is, people who fill in these forms are likely to have a grudge against the police and will rate them low for the sake of being shits.

That puts officers under enquiry, which causes undue amounts of stress towards the officer. If people were more honest when filling them in, it'd be fantastic.

But that's exactly what you're doing by shitting on nationalism. Youre just jerking yourself ofd about how "progressive" you are. No one is explaining which posts they find nationalist, or disproving it or arguing with it.

You essentially want 4chan to be some normalfag echo chamber where unpopular opinions are shunned and weirdos looked down upon, but that is not what this is or ever will be.
>>
>>100263369

>Regardless, it was in one of those ultra-conservative bible belt shitholes, not in one of the states that actually protect some freedoms.

Still happened in the USA, buddy.
>>
>>100263430
It's pretty fucking obvious this kind of thing will happen and I hardly expect anyone would set the standard that they should be mostly positive for people being arrested.

But really, the whole concept is bullshit. It exists just to give the public a sense that somebody gives a shit. In reality some underpaid bureaucrat has to read this shit and slap together some bullshit reports and presentations about it, next to no meaningful change comes out of it and it's just business as usual.
>>
>>100263517

USA's laws vary by state. That said, I'm not trying to promote the USA in any way. I want to get the fuck out of here.
>>
>>100263561
That's still one more case than what has happened in the UK. That said, I'm not exactly going to scream from the rooftops that I have loli here. Pedo paranoia is strong enough here that people will try to justify the murder of innocents on the basis of false accusations. Fuck knows what mobs would be like if they saw loli.
>>
I have a question for these people complaining about nationalism on 4chan.... ever heard of 2channel? Like seriously? Is it THAT surprising to you that 4chan has more offensive/controversial beliefs than normalfag communities like reddit and neogaf and MAL?
>>
>>100263553
Stop projecting so hard.

99% of the nationalism shitposters just regurgitate the same exact crap over and over. Not a single one of them actually came to the conclusion that they live in the greatest country on Earth. They were just told that, internalized it, and now spew it out like a mist of shit, all over the internet.

Serious question, how hard is it to live in Japan? I know the society is fucked, but it's not like I'm even a social person. I just want to make money and live a quiet life alone in a modest home. Getting access to japanese MMO servers would be a pretty nice bonus too.

You'd be better off just paying for a Japanese VPN.

If you live in a first world country, I can guarantee you'll have a far easier time doing this in your own, rather than trying to move to a country that doesn't want you there unless you're there temporarily teaching English or something.

My point is you're complaining about something that has always been a part of 4chan and the anime fandom. It is not something shocking or new. You should tolerate it, since essentially what you're bitching about yourself is tolerance anyway; be the change you seek. Be more open-minded, and stop calling people murrifats.
