Why can't Japan into chess?
There are no good chess players in anime.
cuz they already have Shogi and Mahjong
superior thinking games
I dare someone to try and count how many moves it would have taken to get that knight into that position.
Because being a lesbian makes you good at Mahjong, not at chess.
Shogi is less balanced than Chess.
Mahjong is great, though. My absolute favorite gambling game.
>Superior thinking games.
You should have went with Go, anon.
move the pawn
move the knight to where the pawn was
move it to where it is now
it's a pretty shit opening though
>Clearly this time GM Vachier-Lagrave was very well prepared to meet both Shogi champions.
>It seems to me that his strategy was first of all to not go for a sharp tactical melee, in which the Shogi champions have obvious natural disposition.
One of the strongest chess players in the world fears entering complications against a Shogi player.
Up to the left
Up to the left
Down to the right
But that's all about the flow, magical sand, demons and lesbian powers.
Or just Nh3-Nf4, in two moves.
Your notation sucks.
They don't have time to care for such plebeian games when they have the objectively superior strategy game of Go.
>ever putting a knight on the edge of the board
that's an even shittier opening, but yeah
never bothered to learn it. i don't read about chess or talk about it pretty much ever. i play it for fun.
I'm still mad
It is a perfectly playable strategy to use poor squares to get a knight to a good one, like in the game Carlsen - Anand, Bilbao 2012.
Because they focused on Go.
Why use chess, then?
because chess is for real men and only the greatest of minds enjoy it.
It's like lowly pawns who enjoy Dota and the greatest of kings enjoy Super Turbo
Because the setting was meant to mirror europe, and the west typically doesn't know about the wonders of Go.
why are they using dildos as chess pieces?
Because it's fucking Britannia?
I guess. I'm not an amazing player, just learned from my dad as a kid and been doing it for fun with the occasional friend ever since. I've always learned to keep them away from the edges because they get trapped and control fewer spaces that way. Top-tier players are probably always doing things that I would look at and think ?? when in reality it's more of a !! move. I should try to find Chessmaster again. I used to have it on my computer as a youngin' and I remember it having some really in depth lesson portion that I never wanted to use but would probably enjoy now.
What the fuck am I supposed to be looking at?
That is true. A knight can very well move to bad squares, but it's not supposed to stay there. I find it useful to think of the knight as an octopus.
>no white pieces
How do you even fuck up this badly?
not like non-Japanese are any better
>wasting time learning chess
>when so many better, more balanced, deeper options are available
Hell, even poker is tactically and strategically deeper than chess, isn't it?
Chess = Medieval European peasants
Go = Glorious Eastern warfare master race
Blame the nips.
Did someone say KoG?
Good, because I won't get dubs, as I'm not KoG.
The guy below, though...
It's nice to see autists like me in other forms of media.
Most of these are legitimate though.
Wouldn't know since I never bothered to play it. There's a lot of luck in that though, isn't there? In chess there isn't really any, though I guess white has an advantage so there's luck in hoping you get to go first. Being more of a laid back player I actually don't mind black at all though because I find it easier to respond from the beginning than to take the lead, waiting for my opponent to make a mistake I can capitalize on.
You could have just taken the five.
Guess i'll take dubs.
Mahjong is superior in every way.
Strategically: Go > Chess >Shogi
Tactically: Shogi > Chess >Go
Poker is about maximizing your odds. There is a lot of strategy involved in terms of conditional behaviour, bluffing up or down, betting amount (see: pot odds), table image, reading the opponent, and so on, but it's about probability, unlike chess. In the end, though, you could have 27o every single hand and still manage to win against someone who always gets suited pocket pairs by adopting the right strategy and tactic.
Then again, chess amounts to counting more than anything.
And that is why you are bad at chess
Stop projecting, onii-chan!
You mean that purely luck based game?
Well, if I was the world's greatest badminton player I'd think I'd lose against a great golf player in golf.
"va chier" almost means 'go fuck yourself' in french (lit.: 'go shit')
What does /a/ think about the position after 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Bc4 Nf6 4. Ng5 d5 5. exd5 Nxd5 6. d4 exd4 7. 0-0?
But they were playing chess. The Frenchman was playing the two best Shogi players, who also happen to be very strong chess players, at the same time.
>no mention of glorious Shion-sama
I am disappoint.
If I were playing two skilled opponents at the same time I'd be careful too.
I hope Judit Polgar played this line in the 1980's.
Not really a fan of the Italian unless it's fried liver.
3 if it was the knight on red to start, 4 if it was the knight that started on black.
The Fried Liver attack is better for black.
The anime setting was modeled after the idea of "What if Britain as it was during the Age of Colonization never lost the Americas?" with extra bullshit so they could have mechs and magic.
Britain played chess.
Are there any decent British chess players?
>the flow, magical sand, demons and lesbian powers.
Is that euphemism for cocaine or something?
The current #3 rated chess player in the world is Hikaru Nakamura from Osaka, so there.
Those horses look so sad.
I like white. Already castled and much better development makes up for the lack of control in the center imo.
He's lived in the US since he was 2 years old.
White is fucked.
look at them and laugh e.t.c.
Why she is so perfect?
Is that the Lolli Attack?
It would have been but black stopped it early.
But it's not how chees wo-
Oh. I get it. Fucking Schneizel.
Moot where is our chest board?
Then I demand an ass board.
wouldn't that be /tg/?
