Well no shit. What else do you call it when they introduce a girl each arc to lust after the MC's cock?
There were just better harems. Yuushibu and Outbreak in particular were stronger shows - more character growth and development, better art and animation, and better girls.
Not really complaining, it just seems that Machine Doll's success is a little weird

I love how fickle /a/ is with sales threads. Any other time, anything under 10k is an automatic flop, but because Kill la Kill and NNB didn't make it, 8k is suddenly good.

I'm sure that scene was perfectly artistically justified and not a wholly salacious pandering to known market elements.

You can chalk up pretty much everything in KLK to being a stylistic decision at this point, and I like it a lot. It fits the whole action/comedy thing Imaishi and co love.

Season's average means shit for the profits.

5k is still a failure. Especially for shows with KyoAni's budgets.

Remember this is first volume with many bonuses. Other volumes will sell much worse.
>>
>>100220425
KyoAni is an ANIMATION studio, that's why the have those awards and don't write their LNs themselves. Thus, the quality fluctuates a lot between the titles.

I shouldn't comment on this, but, aside from stylistic choice, could it be that Trigger simply is a small studio? I remember the comment about a full feature movie for LWA2 being impossible due to their crew size, but that may be unrelated to this.

WHY DO PEOPLE KEEP SAYING THIS? Where do you get the idea that KyoAni has huge budget for their shows? They don't. Unless you're talking about the money that Kadokawa threw at them to adapt their titles.

The key to KyoAni's animation is lack of out sourcing and well done schedules where the animators are not rushed to finish an episode.

Who buys TV shows period? When's the last time you bought one?

Game of Thrones sold 100-200k+ but also is $40 for the each season (10 episodes). Japanese routinely pay $60-80 for 2 episodes, 5x as much. So, an anime selling over 20k actually can pull in more money than even Game of Thrones, and GoT is like the all-time best seller for Western TV.

That's just the DVD sales.

Here's what it looks BD-DVD combined.

39 Game of Thrones: The Complete Second Season 1,091,353 $35,898,418

>The first season of Game of Thrones was reported to cost between $50 million and $60 million to produce; but international sales covered more than $25 million of that.
>but international sales covered more than $25 million of that

Costs 60 million $, makes 25 million $ in sales.

That's US TV industry for you. Shit only made money because it increased HBO subscriptions.

>39 Game of Thrones: The Complete Second Season 1,091,353 $35,898,418

35,898,418 x 100 is

3,589,841,800 yen

Yeah, that's Bake-Madoka tier.

Game of Thrones S1 is Gundam Seed Destiny Tier.

>45 Game of Thrones: The Complete First Season 1,509,504 $57,159,040

5,715,904,000 yen

Makes me wonder how much the Game of Thrones books is selling. (Is it One Piece level?)
>>
>>100223640

>Madoka Magica
>436,989 volume sales x 8,000yen (80$)
>34,959,120$

Madoka made just as much money as Game of Thrones by disc sales.

Game of Thrones costs 60 million $ to make per season. Madoka maybe 1 million $.

Still wondering why anime industry don't want to change?
>>
>>100223890

Game of Thrones probably has more streams of revenue than Madoka.

I haven't look up on HBO's cable subscriptions, but that stream probably pulled in more money than the disc sales.

The cable sub numbers would be like box office numbers.
>>

And Madoka made 400 million $ in merchandise by mid 2013.

Madoka isn't even the #1 anime moneymaker.

Mainstream mahou shojo like Precure or Jewelpet makes more money.

And GoT is the biggest western TV hit in the recent years. Comparing it to the biggest recent anime hit makes perfect sense.
>>
If Log Horizon does poorly on sales, then the various producers will know that the Sword Art Online formula is the preferred one for fantasy game show anime. Log Horizon is way too slow and full of filler whereas SAO has characters that actually do things and receive rewards. That's what characters do in games instead of staying still and talking episode after episode.
>>
>>100225042
Ratings are more important for Log Horizon than sales
>>
What does the number after the sales mean? I used to think it was amount of volumes out but after looking that doesn't appear to be true.

Except elder tale isn't a game anymore.
>>
>>100226154

The majority of western fans are underage pirates.
>>
>>100226154

The license fees are either nil or waived these days, with companies electing to just pay royalties. Again, either way, 12k American discs sold is is like 2k Japanese ones, monetarily. You pay 50-60 for an American set consisting of 12 or 13 episodes, which is about what they pay for 2 episodes in Japan.

>I haven't look up on HBO's cable subscriptions, but that stream probably pulled in more money than the disc sales.

An HBO subscription is about 15 dollars a month. HBO probably pockets about 5 dollars of that.

But it's hard to use cable subscription revenue to directly offset a show's production cost since the subscription isn't just for that one show.

I'd say just use dvd sales, legal digital download sales and licensing. I read that HBO got 25 million just from international licensing of Game of Thrones.

Another thing to consider is that the overall revenue at the-numbers.com seems to be based on unit prices which already includes Amazon's discount.

The anime revenue listed at Mania.com is based on MSRP (without discount).

> 25 Game of Thrones: The Complete Second Season 498,875 $17,220,292

34.52 USD unit average for the Bluray which has a SRP of about 80 bucks.

http://www.the-numbers.com/home-market/dvd-sales/2013

>57 Game of Thrones: The Complete Second Season 592,478 $18,678,126

The DVD is averaging about 31.52 USD. SRP is 60 bucks.

If we're going to compare to Mania's numbers, we have to fix this discrepancy first. GOT's revenue would have to increase by 50% or Madoka or whatever anime it's being compared to is subtracted by 25% which is the usual discount for anime dvds in Japan.

You mean, just like KlK has a limited edition OST added to the first volume? An event ticket is just another bonus and pretty standard in the industry. It's kinda funny how trolls still try to talk the sales down; don't forget that there are additional sales through the KyoAni shop, plus it's their own IP which grants bigger profits of each sale anyway.

Well, before you go all "they need to sell at least 20k for a show to break even!!!", consider the additional sales through their shop and the "own IP" bonus. Now look at Tamako Market which sales were lower and still warranted a follow-up project. It's not far off to consider the Manabi Line still a measure even for KyoAni shows (since a KA show will have the above mentioned additional benefits which makes up for the (alleged) higher production costs).
