why do weebs not consider this anime?
>>
The same reason Family Guy, South Park and the like aren't anime.
>>
>>100217067
I would have gone with a comparison to avatar or something considering the style difference
but basically this
>>
Because it was made by an american.

Gosh niggers are fucking stupid.
>>
Because it's not made in Japan.
>>
1. Is it animated?

2. Is it from Japan?

If you answered "no" to any of these questions, then it's not anime.

its Korean animation

Anime and anime style are two different things.

Anime is just the Japanese word for animation. In Japan, it would be called an anime. Animation, anime, cartoons, etc. They are all the same.

Now if you go with what these guys said...
>>100217120
>>100217132

then is that strictly for cartoons animated in Japan? Or what about who produces it? Or does it matter that the people working on it are Japanese.

For example, Batman the Animated Series was largely animated in Japan, by Japanese. Would those episodes be considered anime?

At the end of the day, it's all the same shit.
>>
>Dreadlocks

I don't think so Tim.
>>
It's not Japanese. Art style doesn't determine whether or not it's anime.
>>
>>100216848
It's not Japanese. Same reason Avatar, Code Lyoko and Torkaizer aren't anime.

>For example, Batman the Animated Series was largely animated in Japan, by Japanese. Would those episodes be considered anime?
No, because it wasn't directed or written by Japanese staff nor was it made for Japanese audiences.
>>
A cartoon made for an American audience based on an American comic strip isn't an anime? Gee, I wonder why.

I thought Code Lyoko WAS considered anime.
>>
>>100218669
It was? Well it's not since it's 100% French, if it were a joint effort like Eon Kid (which is Korean-Spanish) for example, then it could be considered anime.
>>
>>100217802
code lyoko is japanese
>>
>>100218762
No, it's French.

This guy explains it better than I can.

Because even if it's stylistically similar to what's commonly used in anime, it's not from Japan.

That's pretty much what it comes down to.
Last I checked, though, a good portion of /a/ doesn't mind discussing it and the mods won't be too anal about it.

So direction and the writing are what determine what is an "anime" and what aren't. That doesn't make sense especially considering animation is a visual art form.

Now saying it wasn't made for Japanese audiences does make some sense. Definitely one of the better ideas I have heard. But it isn't fool proof, an artist wouldn't restrict himself to one audience such as Miyazaki who has a world wide following. So not all anime is strictly made for Japanese audiences. Otherwise then Space Dandy isn't an anime.

Again anime is just a word. Matter of fact, it's a label. When it started to become popular and making its way into western video stores, people found it too violet. Remember anime then wasn't how we know it now. It was still too foreign. So Japanese cartoons were given their own shelves and a label. The label was anime.

To Japanese, it would be anime. Even stuff like Avatar, Family Guy, The Simpsons and South Park would be anime to them.
But elsewhere, they're cartoons, and the word 'anime' is used only for cartoons of Japanese origin.
