What went wrong?
It was greenlit.
Its not that bad, but they should have made the story something more concrete than space cat stoner adventures.
Maybe it'll eventually get better, but as of right now its being carried but the OST and animation.
What a waste of a good ED
Welcome to Shinichiro Watanabe.
Bebop had entire episodes that were carried hard by the OST and animation.
Champloo was ENTIRELY afloat on animation and OST.
Jazz Snooze was the same, too.
I'm waiting for the story to pick up before I make any real judgment. The first two episodes were just establishing the characters and the world, and it's hard to say where the plot is going to go from here. The second episode was a lot better than the first, so I'm still hopeful.
And Hell, I'll probably keep watching it for the animation alone.
Dandy was just an asshole. Meow and QT are fine but the crew needs more people to drown out their leader. Also it's really not that funny for a comedy and I get the feeling I'm not going to like the excuse for Dandy being the most wanted man in the galaxy.
>hurr what went wrong?
>Bebop had entire episodes that were carried hard by the OST and animation.
Which ones? The weakest episode was Wild Horses, and it was still okay.
The Lelgend of MAXX
You retards overhyped it like Kill la Kill and Kyoukai no Kanata.
Someone told Watanabe that anime's popularity was dying in the west.
>what went wrong?
You tell me.
We just made the mistake of watching the first episode not drunk 'n blazed of our asses. An easy correction to make going forward.
The first two episodes weren't 11/10 greatest anime of all time level stuff.
Also, it airs in dub first. No way /a/ is gonna take that seriously.
I watched both of the episodes high and only the animation impressed me.
I'm tempted to just drop the show and download the OST when it releases. This show doesn't even deserve to be in the same sentence as Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo.
Frankly, I don't want backstory. Or story. The Gogol Empire chasing Dandy across space and misinterpreting everything as him being some super-skilled badass is great, and I don't want to see any reason, whether it's comedic or some boring space opera cliche for it.
I just want Dandy, Meow and QT to wander space and meet people like the Ramen Alien and have fun.
Fuck dark serious plot-driven anime, I'm just tired of the onslaught of 2edgy4me animes the last year. And fuck cute-girls-doing-cute-things, too. I want something I can throw on and relax with a beer to.
Comedy show without comedy
No plot to fall back on either
>Also, it airs in dub first.
It also fucks with streaming and subbing schedules.
A bit early to tell, ain't it?
>I'm not going to like the excuse for Dandy being the most wanted man in the galaxy
He's the key to unlocking the multiverse and harnessing that form of energy they mentioned in the first episode, probably because he keeps jumping through wormholes and pulling threads of reality and shit.
Or so I assume, at least. It would make sense thematically. Dandy's the only person in the whole Universe both dumb and lucky enough to come into contact with the fabric of reality on a regular basis.
>You retards overhyped it like Kill la Kill
Except Kill a Kill is actually funny and has good action.
I'm scared /a/,
The anime looks like it may just be plain shit, but it's also the first anime that is supposed to cater to a Western Audience.
If this anime doesn't do well, will the Japanese think it's because it's a shitty anime, or because the Western Audience doesn't appreciate their work?
Do we want this anime to do well if it would suggest we want more of this shit?
>The weakest episode was Wild Horses
This is the most incorrect opinion I have seen in a long fucking time. The correct answer is and always will be BWFS.
Keep telling yourself that.
Do only extremes exist in your mind?
Believe it or not, there does exist the possibility of having a somewhat serious plot behind the lighthearted comedy. There still exists the possibility further down the line, but I doubt it. At this point, we'll be lucky in Dandy and the monkey even have some sort of showdown.
Are you kidding? KLK has better comedy for the most part but the action in Space Dandy is obviously better.
>most of the stream sites get lazy and only bother uploading the dub version
>inferior dub torrents get more exposure than sub torrents, dampening people's opinion of the show
Do you see now why pandering to Otaku is a better option than pandering to Westerners?
>the first anime that is supposed to cater to a Western Audience
That's not true though.
>it's also the first anime that is supposed to cater to a Western Audience
It's not. Big O S2 was funded by Adult Swim or Toonami or whatever.
Also, considering how stagnant the anime industry is getting, it would actually be very nice to see more anime aimed at different audiences. It's not like Cute Girls Doing Cute Things-type shows would go away. Those always have and always will sell very well.
>if you don't like dandy then you only like grimdark and moeblob anime
All I wanted out of Dandy was funny adventures in outer space. But it's not funny.
>but it's also the first anime that is supposed to cater to a Western Audience
There were a whole bunch of shitty OVAs in the '90s that only got made on the hope that they'd ride the wave of western anime popularity.
My problem is tha Dandy,Meow and the robot don't have much chemistry (they are too similar) and they don't complement each other like the cast of Bebop and Samurai Champloo, they need a Jet Black or a Jin
At least Space Dandy isn't as bad and cancerous as Monogatari.
>Kill a Kill is actually funny and has good action
ITT Americans you don't know what comedy is
Need some change?
No more "saving anime" shows, it always ends up a disaster. Just like Fractale.
>I get the feeling I'm not going to like the excuse for Dandy being the most wanted man in the galaxy.
But /a/ already figured it out
Yes, I see everything in extremes.
It is possible to have a somewhat serious plot behind the lighthearted comedy, but I really don't see that being the point of this. It's a homage to the sci-fi of the 70s and 80s where there was no such thing as canon, there was no coherent plot, and making a Flash Gordon film was a-okay. Honestly, the monkey is clearly not a threat, despite all of the ominous imagery and such. I don't see a showdown coming with him at all. Maybe we'll get one with the Ghost Rider Emperor at the very end, but if we do, I see it being like Desert Punk with everyone dying to some super-weapon, and then the reset button being pressed for the credits. And I'm totally okay with that.
Not quite; I'm just saying I'm tired of the avalanche of grimdark and moeblob we've had recently. You're right, though, it's not really that hilarious. I'm mostly amused by the Gogol Empire; Dandy's segments aren't that fantastic. But maybe they'll pick up.
>why are you crossing the dateline?
don't you mean the east?
contain you elitism, anon.
The solution to this is to not watch the dub.
I don't really think anything went wrong so far. Its established itself as something different and we are only 2 episodes in so there isnt much to go wrong. It does have a nice OST and animation so it at least has that working for it. The characters aren't bad and the plot is basically nonexistant. I don't know how you could hate or love the series at this point although I do think I'm going to enjoy it if it continues down this path.
Just going off of the first two episodes?
It wasn't funny when it was trying to be.
I'm entirely watching the dub because I thought the first line was funny, sell me on the sub Onii-chan.
But everything is great, I'm really digging it so far.
And to the guy who talked shit about "Wild horses": Your opinion is wrong and gay.
Give this man a medal
I watched the sub, hey still don't have chemistry
his hair. no seriously why the fuck is the back so stupid when the front is so glorious
but isn't the weakest episode my favorite episode?
both BWFS and Wild horses had more plot
It was entertaining.
It's not like Samurai Champloo exactly started with a bang (except it did...literally)
i think dandy is just too much man for this board to handle
little girls being lewd= perfectly okay
grown man hitting on grown women = omg sux
theres 2000's postmodernism and then theres 2014's postmodernism
>not liking Space Dandy so far
shit taste, etc.
In fact, if anything this show needs a mirror rival episode like SpikeXAndy.
Yeah, the way it comes off like spider legs bugs me when they do close ups.
Samurai Champloo's first episode was fantastic. The next few were kind of weak but it found its footing fast. I'm hoping Dandy can do the same.
Samurai Champloo has the best first episode of all Watanabe show.
Dandy makes me want to rewatch Bebop and Champloo
I'm not watching it cuz it's pandering to american markets so I already know it must be shit
QT could have been the straight man by he's got too much snark in his retorts and doesn't seem to pay respect to Dandy or Meow in any aspect. Jin didn't want to be around Mugen at all and they weren't on good terms for a decent portion of the series, but he at least acknowledged him as a skilled swordsman. Spike and Jet act more like best friends than partners.
QT barely even sees the two as friends and has even less respect for them. Also, he feels like the third wheel because he's a nagger who doesn't actually get the two to actually do anything. This could easily be remedied by making his voice a little more influential in the group, but it's also very early on in a 2cour show, but I don't see long-lasting character development or plot being a thing in this series. The best we can hope for is for the characters to be built upon enough so the writers can improve the cast dynamic. If QT has more voice or Meow had a defined role other than being an idiot (which Dandy himself fulfills) this show could be a comedy gem for 2014 rather than a fun ride you don't really care to revisit after it ends.
I laughed my ass off when the alien dude flamed the alien girl. It was just a short scene, but so unexpected and nonchalant that it really got me.
Finally a joke in an anime that you don't see coming from miles away.
I think it's entertaining, but has severe flaws, at least according to my tastes:
- ADHD style
- too random at times, like dying in episode 1
- jokes that are hit and miss, mostly miss
- way too little Honey
Won't drop it, but could be much better. However, again, this is not a professional criticism, it's mostly that the execution doesn't appeal to me personally.
Just watch both.
That's what I'm doing, and I'm having a blast being able to watch a sub/dub anime together for once.
>senjougahara will never grab you by the ahegao and rotate your head
This could be the case, considering how so many people here are creaming their britches over Wake Up Girls, Chuu2 and Sekei Seifuku even though Sekei Seifuku is pretty good.
I really wish Funimation and Japan could solve their music licensing shit for the OP and ED. That's my only complaint about the dub.
seems a little premature to be asking that
>girls dominating boys
Fuck yeah, SHAFT knows what the audience wants.
The alien designs are more interesting than the main character. All that shit happening in the background and we have to pay attention to some boring shithead who's obviously going to be a chick magnet. I'm not interested in human-related things when they're alongside non-humans. They're almost always more interesting based on design alone. Next week's episode already looks boring.
>way too little Honey
Who would score more chicks?
Dandy or Johnny.
How are the preorders for this? Last, near last?
Scarlett is hot, but I don't dig her pompadour.
Hair down is a go though.
The dub makes major alterations to the characterizations, particularly of Meow and Honey. Honey is a sly and sarcastic woman who makes the most out of her job in the sub, whereas she's a generic ditzy blonde girl in the dub. Meow is hapless and dumb in a charming way in the sub, but the dub rewrites him to be very sarcastic and, frankly, kind of an asshole.
But really, you should watch them both and form your own opinion. As should everyone else watching this show.
The reason I said WH was a weaker episode is because the subplot was more interesting than the main plot.
The question it, who has the better dance moves
The only woman Johnny could score was a little girl.
I'm only watching this shitty ass show for Meow.
Meow, Meow, Meow.
He's so fucking perfect.
I've already fapped to him too many times to count.
My dick is actually sore from fapping so much.
In fact, the only reason I'm here on /a/ is for the dandy threads so I can be on the look out for more Meow images I don't already have.
That's such an retarded thing to say and I hope one day you will realize this.
Do you guys even realize how episodes of tv shows are supposed to work?
I knew the cast was going to be a problem since it was revealed. Jin and Jet were the "sane man" and brought balance to the cast and yet they were funny on their own, everyone in Dandy is an idiot, you don't have to make all the characters stupid to make them fun.
>nobody has made a comic of dandy and johnny becoming best of bros and striking poses while failing to pick up chicks
truly this world is shit
Dandy was implied to be at least somewhat charming at the end of episode 2, so probably him.
Dandy, if only because of the glorious Yutaka Nakamura animation.
Forgot to add:
- MC is a wimp that gets outclassed by a woman
I'm sure we'll see him getting his ass kicked by the ladies a lot more in the future.
I thought Dandy was confirmed to be 13 episodes via the disc pre-orders.
fund this shit now
Scarlette is obviously special forces or something. It can't be helped.
Mushroom Hunting was too fun to be the worst episode.
>implying you can beat DO THE MONKEY
What went wrong is that there's no good subgroup handling it, just fucking funi hardsubs and Commie trashsubs. I can't even feel good watching it.
dandy is two cours
mushroom hunting was amazing and made me fall in love with cowboy bebop.
dat ed strut song
What? It's not a movie, not every episode has to be 100% about the main plot (we know how that turns out *cough* kill la kill *cough*) In fact having episodes with a strong subplot enhances the series far beyond what could be done in say a movie where it's much harder to have little chunks primarily focused on one subplot.
What, do you think other subs will make the show actually good? Space Dandy is garbage, accept it.
My main issue with the first two episodes is how dull the first half of them were, but the second half of them were great. The latest episodes 2nd half and entire interaction between Dandy and the Ramen Vendor was great, I really liked the tonal switch, and the 1st episode's action scene with everything just getting worse and worse as things go along with a domino effect was great, coupled with that ending 'punchline' was hilarious. Loving that OP and ED too, and Dandy's voice is great, hopefully the later episodes come together with more of a plot like Champloo and Bebop did.
The worst episode is Brain Scratch. It's tonally incompatible with the series.
BWFS isn't very good either but at least it jives with the rest of the show. I'll call it second worse.
Scarlet was stylin' on everyone in the building, man. Can't really fault Dandy for that one.
Ya blew it.
I actually really like QT's character, and I'm sure we'll get more development on her relationship with Dandy over the course of the show.
What? You're speaking English right now, why do you need subs? The Japanese version is the dub ya know.
I'd enjoy KLK 100% more if Satsuki was the MC instead, or we have Satsuki and the four Devas SOL show.
Fuck Ryuko so much and her revenge. Fucking boring.
>that single red pixel
>oh god I have a stuck pixel out of warranty
The weakest episode was when Spike goes to get his ship fixed, Brain Scratch was great.
The script would have still been written in Japanese first and translated to English later, and then re-written to hopefully match lip-flaps better. The original is still the Japanese.
Mushroom Hunting was great, while it may have been a little weird even for Cowboy Bebop it was a riot and I really enjoyed it's lightheartedness in the face of the dark sadness of a lot of the later end of the series.
>it doesn't jive with the rest of the show
And Pierrot Le Fou does?
all animation is dubbed
Jap animation, western stuff animates to prerecorded dialog.
The shuttle episode was fine. A breather episode yes but they throw in some expense at the end to compensate you for your time.
Brain Scratch is garbage all around.
>can't appreciate a character's story told from the perspective of another
Straight plebeian anonymous. That shits older than dirt.
>Woolongs are being used as the currency in Space Dandy, confirming that it's in the same universe as Cowboy Bebop
What if a Bebop appeared as a cool cameo, like grown up Ed or something?
Nah, Brain Scratch was great. It was pretty distinct from the rest of the episodes, but the events felt like a natural consequence of the show's universe.
Now Pierrot le Fou, that was just stupid.
Appreciated the Pink Floyd cover, though.
>The weakest episode was when Spike goes to get his ship fixed
This guy was awesome, though.
To be perfectly honest, I was thinking of this comparison as well when Dandy walked up to Scarlet. Part of me almost wanted to see her suddenly leg sweep him and hip toss him into a garbage bin then walk off as he slurred "Call me..."
Dandy is almost a mix between Johnny Bravo and pic related. At least that's the way I see him for now.
Ed would have to be at least 10,000 years old.
I would instantly ejaculate.
Watanabe said though that he will not confirm or decline anything, because some fans will be pissed anyways.
>Straight plebeian anonymous. That shits older than dirt.
But I can.
I just hate Ryuko.
>What went wrong?
Humanity hadn't even made contact with any aliens in Bebop. If SD is in the same universe, and that wasn't just a little nod to fans, then it has to be so far into the future that every character from Bebop is dead as heck.
And actually, judging from Earth's condition in SD, it almost certainly can't be the same universe. Earth was totally fucked and almost completely irrelevant in CB, whereas it seemed to be flourishing and civilized even 10,000 years before SD began.
How about you stop caring about this shit and watch a real Anime like Sakura Trick?
>yfw second cour focuses more on plot
>plot features how he's only doing the job to support his dying mother on earth
>big twist near the end is that his mother is already dead, and that he's one of thousands of dandies
>the zoo corporations are using the dandy clones as cheap labour, and whenever one dies, another one is woken up from stasis
>the real dandy returned to earth a long time ago
You guys are missing the point. They can't be the same universe because Cowboy Bebop was all just a dream.
They started with episode 1 rather than episode 2.
No, fuck that. The movie's ending was stupid and bad.
You guys are ALL wrong. The weakest episode was the one with the alien life form that came out of the fridge or whatever. At the end Ed ate it.
I also didn't much like the one with the blind girl and her brother, who reminded me of a puppy with down's. The ending was the only good part.
Nothing, everything is going smooth.
Dandy dandying around, cat thing being adorable stoner, qt robot voice trying to be voice of reason, whacky adventures in space, high production values. All is right in the world.
that's weird. i used a file with leonardo dicaprio in it and it shows this avatar shit.
That reminds me; I need to see how much it offended ANN's lesbian bitch.
Waltz for Venus is one of the best episodes.
So is Toys in the Attic. What are you on?
That was a perfect hommage to Alien, and I love that movie.
So shut up. But yeah, I go with blind girl and brother for worst episode.
So after half of it was absolute shit, they end their first episode with some huge explosion and then completely ignore it for the second ep?
What is this shit?
>What is this shit?
Pay attention to the ED for a hint, dummy.
Toys in the Attic was great. Fuck you.
It's called episodic content. The show is being more American than you realize.
Sometimes I wonder if Johnny's problem is that his mother raised him on retro propaganda and Elvis movies, never getting that the exaggerated self-masturbatory moments and constant posing was part of being a showman and not truly how to pick up chicks.
He should have gone loli or super spy route.
The worst episode was Heavy Metal Queen, with the intergalactic truck driver girl.
It was totally out of place AND boring. Far moreso than BWFS. At least Mushroom Hunting was zany and fun to watch.
Isn't that the plot of Moon
Is there even any difference between commie and horriblesubs?
You've never seen Alien 1, right?
commie is not hardsubbed and has dual audio
Dropping some hints in the ED doesn't keep the show from being a disjointed mess, dummy.
If they want to pull a running storyline they should work that into the actual show. If they want to keep it episodic they shouldn't go killing of their main characters at the end of the ep.
No, fuck you. That episode was great.
V.T is mai motheru
>If they want to pull a running storyline they should work that into the actual show.
They are. Dandy dying is clearly a very large part of that. Come on, man, use your brain.
You need to be some kind of stupid to not realize that Dandy created some Back to the Future style alternate timelines when he fucked with the space string
And Toys in the Attic was creepy and fun to watch.
Lets see, looking back I hated Ganymede Elegy and Black Dog Serenade. Jet was a boring character when he wasn't playing off either Spike or Faye and the angst that came with his solo episodes was so contrived.
>he summarises the plot of moon
We've seen 2 episodes. Fuck you
dude, you are not the president of anime. You don't make the rules what they have to do and in what part of their show.
Remember the beginning of TTGL when they were flying in space and it's never explained?
Did you bitch about that too?
10/10 choice in motherus.
Ganymede Elegy i give you that, but Black Dog Serenade was great for it's hommage to Con Air.
>there will never be another show as simple and genuine as K-ON again
>Dandy was just an asshole
Did you even Phantom Ramen?
She was cool, but the ending was dumb. Spike and his crew are constantly in need of money, and he gives up a fat ol' stack that he won fair and square. What a shitter.
I liked Jet's episodes because they showed him dealing with his past and moving on like a goddamned adult. Whereas Spike was just a big stupid baby who charged into his death with no regard for anyone else.
>shit autistic moeblobs
Thats some funny ass shit
He was being mean to Meow though. ;_;
Black Dog Serenade was great because of this godliness.
It went wrong when they decided to pander to western audiences by making a dime-a-dozen "wackier star wars" SoL spoof show, without realizing that outside of Japan that shit is as tired and cliched as it gets. It could have been good if they had just done their own thing, but its sadly obvious that the west was firmly in mind when they made this.
He only charged into his death because the woman he loved and had just been reunited with after YEARS of heartache was murdered. I don't see why that would be a hard concept to understand or sympathize with.
Nothing, I'm liking it so far.
My only complaint is the "quality animation". Other than that, the show is really good.
It's just that some people thought this was going to be just like Cowboy Bebop.
expected overhyped trash, got a funny and psychedelic anime instead
everything went better than expected
>highschool girls having fun
Why must you hate fun?
Anyways, worst episode was objectively Boogie Woogie Feng Shui.
/a/ has no concept of empathy because /a/ is composed of autists
Let's think about this rationally. It didn't go wrong, because I'm pretty sure their pandered audience is loving it, which is the teenage viewers of Adult Swim/Toonami. They don't know shit about anime besides what appears on that station.
Not trying to sound like an elitist though, I'm actually enjoying Space Dandy quite a bit for what it's worth. Just simple, fun zaniness.
Top tier reaction image dude. Not an artifact in sight
Heavy Metal Queen was the "worst" episode, but they were all good really.
>not opening images within the thread
What's it like living in a decade in the past?
I think it could improve a great deal, or it'll continue to be a sort of watchable disappointment.
God damn that OP/ED is god tier though
SpikeXDandy rivalry confirmed.
But one's a fuckup while the other's actually competent.
I enjoyed the first episode but I felt like episode two was kind of disappointing. It felt unnecessarily solemn, like an episode towards the middle or end of a series, which I imagine has something to do with Dandy tugging on that space thread. I'm pretty sure this is like Haruhi where the broadcast order is disjointed so I'm not upset by how episode two played out, just a little disappointed there wasn't more action.
Which is which? Neither make any money.
Ask when the series is over.
People seriously trying to judge it based on watching 2 episodes are idiots.
The universe of Space Dandy uses Woolongs. ₩.
Confirmed for Cowboy Bebop sequel.
I'm still waiting for Commie. Fuck.
Meow seems to be the reckless (contrast to Dandy who just reacts recklessly and doesn't do anything stupid without having reason to do so) information broker who has been around the universe on his own and actively looks up information on his smartphone which inadvertently compensates for QT's lackluster database.
QT's subdued reaction to the idea of Dandy trading him up for a newer robotic companion hints that it's a possibility that she's considered, accepted, but still resents. Notably, while Dandy is painfully oblivious to a lot of things about his profession and the universe he lives in, he's well versed with the quirks in QT's personality and the imperfections (notice how he's reluctant to trust her judgment while she's low on power) brought about by her technological shortcomings. On her part, while she calls him 'useless' at some points, QT frequently defers to Dandy regarding where they need to go or do, implying that she values his judgment to some extent. If the intro is any indication, Dandy's had a fair amount of adventures with her before Meow came along, so that can be grounds for an episode in itself.
>out of place AND boring
Jesus Christ, how can someone so retarded exist?
I wouldn't call Dandy a wimp. He handled himself pretty well on the incredibly hostile and chaotic alien world in the first episode and even took his imminent death incredibly well.
Though I must admit, this episode has me wondering if he can in fact fight without his gun.
What makes Dandy different from Johnny is that while Johnny is always "on", Dandy seems to have to consciously decide to go after women. In the first episode, he was fine with just oogling all the waitresses from afar like a goof until Honey came along and he tried to switch into "cool" mode. In the following episode, he barely notices Scarlett during their first and second meeting, and puts on a loud but insincere show solely to try and get some cash out of her. It isn't until she beats up a bunch of aliens and reveals her sublime posterior that he actually show some attraction.
That's the thing though, there's nothing to really enjoy. Ep two had no funny moments at all, I think I chuckled at one point, but I can't even remember when. I know you probably think I'm some jaded elitist, but I find pretty much everything funny, from shit like Family Guy and even BBT to Seinfeld, Fraiser, Azumanga; pretty much anything you can name. But not this. The only time I've ever laughed is when he threw the gun behind him.
Enjoying it out of a sense of "damn so original and different wacky zaniness" just doesn't cut it, because its the LEAST original shit possible. Star-Wars-esque spoofs are old and overdone as time itself, I can't think of a single western animated comedy that hasn't gone there at some point. I've been turning it over in my head for some time, and I just cannot imagine why this show is liked so much. The visuals are the only good element, everything else is just juvenile and bland as your average children's cartoon. "Boobies"? That's just incredible, I've never heard of Hooters being spun off in such a way! "Dandy, Space Dandy"? This is literally my first time ever hearing of a reference to that James Bond line. Truly, this show is amazing.
The worst part is, I've been in your position personally. I've loved and defended shows that were fun and silly, and had low-key worldbuilding, visual, and dialogue humor. But that's the thing: this isn't one of them. There is nothing redeeming or charming about this show whatsoever. It's not terrible, but it isn't good, and while I don't like to write off whole fanbases as being bad, you truly do have to be a plebeian to enjoy such a thing. this shit is just Star Wars minus everything that makes it good or interesting, with "zaniness" thrown in.
You don't deserve the gloriousness this show has to offer anyways, go back to K-on, you uncultured mook.
being episodic is American now?
leave it to /a/ to harshly judge a show 2 episodes in. turned out so well for valvrave.
I understand it, but it was still irresponsible of him. Plus, it was cruel to Faye and Jet. Suicide is never the answer.
Well, almost never.
d-does anyone have a gif of Meow slurping the ramen noodles up in the second episode?
Nothing yet, its been pretty solid and the characters are likeable
Meow was great this episode.
>not liking a fun and colorful anime for being fun and colorful
You guys must be riots at parties. a party is where people get together to be social btw
Dandy was pretty great, too. They made him really likable at the end.
You know who else likes colorful things? Retards.
I use Cowboy Bebop to fall asleep because it's so fucking boring. I can't remember anything except Spike dies.
oh there's a thread here, couldn't find it
Hugh Everett III (November 11, 1930 – July 19, 1982) was an American physicist who first proposed the many-worlds interpretation (MWI) of quantum physics, which he termed his "relative state" formulation.
>ED has people walking along light cones
>I spot at least the equation for relativistic velocity and what looks to be the Schroedinger wave equation in the credits
So he's a womanizing PhD Physicist with amnesia (retro AND antrograde) from traveling through dimensions/time/space? Based loosely on Feynman perhaps?
It's why this board exists.
I don't think that Dandy has a PhD.
I held off watching because I thought it wouldn't be very good at the threads would be a horrible perfect-shitstorm because of co/toonami/IRC/etc but that was nothing at all like what i expected and i really liked it, although i'm probably a bit too far into it
How is this working though since apparently the toonami broadcast airs earlier, is the japanese broadcast significantly later?
I'm guessing HS is still broadcasting it since HS has the first releases.. it's not like you can sub the japanese release directly from the dub, but i suppose it might help in some small way, for context or whatever.
Is it unconfirmed if it's 1 or 2 cours? Wiki just says '2+' which leads me to belive that.
Might have been okay fifteen years ago, if it was funny. I think the director/writing is out of touch.
I watched both episodes after taking 12.5mg of doxylamine succinate (a common OTC antihistamine) to help fall asleep and it was absolutely amazing
Also i know Google named their company off the number, Gogol or whatever, but that's so clearly based off them since they're tracking everyone with their botnet smartphones (/g/ must absolutely fucking love it)
This show is just so fucking far out of left field, i thought it was going to be some boring 'basically cowboy bebop' normalfag/toonami cash in shit
Where the fuck did this glorious concept come from? It appears to be an anime original
Dude that is fucking dangerous, 24min of Dandy + 12.5 mg of doxy succinate will put you in a permanent coma.
Would you make Meow a nice warm bowl of ramen?
Anime enjoyment goes up several times when under the influence of alcohol or anithistamines for me
I mean that happens in general for most people, but anime seems to be particularly affected by it
Wasn't this meant to be a comedy? Why am I not laughing?
>loves Kill La Kill
>shitposts about Dandy
You're all retarded
so this is then:
cowboy bebop + many worlds interpretation from quantum physics + charlie's angels + /g/oogle botnet + even more to come
pretty sure from the ending it's a 3deep5you time/space travel slice of life or something. like stein's gate before shit goes down, although i think it went down pretty fast in that, can't remember exactly when it kicked in
better than cowboy bebop
this episode felt strongly like bebop / champloo
This is nothing like cowboy bebop. The only thing they have in common is that they take place in space
Cast,Themes,Interaction and general tones wildly differ
>yfw Professor Gogol or whatever the fuck the pimp's name is is actually a future version of Jet
that's why i included it with several different things, it's clearly nothing like charlie's angels except that there's clearly a cast of women capable of fighting, it just takes small ideas and concepts from it, which of course are immediately obvious (created by same people, space bounty hunter who's not entirely bright. action sequences, etc)
I'm sure it was a common sentiment but they just screamed "we are almost a carbon copy of the 'evil imperial war race' from redline"
No i mean bebop should not even be included in that list,Cobra is a better fit
Yes it is. Are you watching the dub?
I ship Meow and Dandy.
Yes i am and its nothing like it. Anyone who thinks so is delusional and clearly sipping the watanabe Kool-aid
I want to fuck Meow.
I'm pretty positive he's blushing there because he's about to cry over his lost ramen in front of both of them
it is less serious, but the atmosphere is very much like it
dub changes a lot, probably
I'm way more okay with this than I should be. What am I becoming, /a/? I don't want this to happen.
The point is not the blushing, it's the stare.
>but the atmosphere is very much like it
No its not, Dandy is way more colorful and expressive than bebop
Do you think Champloo was Like bebop too?
>mentions of cowboy bebop
>mentions of samurai champloo
>no word about kids on the slope
really it's more like champloo + gurren lagann
this guy gets it
what'd he say i didn't read it
Would you take him to a nice ramen restaurant?
There's bound to be some sort of band in a club scene in the future.
Pay attention then.
>Dandy will never smile at you like that
not interesting is what's wrong.
I'm enjoying it, I just sort of wish it had a little more plot.
>we'll be lucky in Dandy and the monkey even have some sort of showdown.
That's exactly it. I don't give two shits whether this ever happens or not. I'm here for the humor, the characters and seeing what kind of fun the creators can have with sci-fi and Japanese media cliches.
tfw Watanabe didn't decide to make it Space Andy.
I think Scarlet is going to get the straight man role somewhere down the line.
Too bad Scarlet is probably the love interest. Meow is way cuter than her.
I wonder if there'll be a good excuse for the Aloha Oe to stop at Blaxploitation World. Even better if a disco danceoff gets worked into it.
He's not a stoner, he's just an otaku.
commie out yet?
What is "comedy"?
How can you sleep with so many sharp edges?
i like it and it can only get better from here
Hurr. Wouldn't that be a hilarious twist.
Yeah, I went and looked him up after hearing the "nee Everett" lyric. Pretty cool homage. ED animation and song are great too. When Etsuko Yakushimaru brings her A game it's glorious.
I think nostalgia goggles may be at work at least for some people comparing it negatively to previous Watanabe series, because I remember being REALLY unimpressed by the first few episodes of Champloo, but it hit its stride and became awesome sure enough. There's no doubt in my mind that it'll happen with this show too. Besides, what it lacks in substance for now, it makes up with some really damn funny gags.
I think the show tries too hard to pander to western normies. At least the fanservice is there to tell off the prude fucks.
God the butthurt blog posts over the OFFENSIVE AND EXCESSIVE FANSERVICE in this are so glorious.
Is it because they're grown women? I don't see any of the same people objecting to shows with lingering creepy closeups of teenage girls' panties.
It's pretty entertaining for sure. It's good old autism theater. And they actually think anyone reads their rants seriously.
I hope there is a full on sex scene.
People home on a Saturday night watching anime in the US are probably the same kind of people home on a Saturday night watching anime in Nippon
Jesus, if you're going to vent your retardation on this board at least get your references right. It riffs on Flash Gordon way more than Star Wars.
>This whole paragraph
You are that fucking angry someone likes it?
totally, i'd follow him on future twitter too if i can get some creep shots too.
Probably why Toonami will never have an afternoon timeslot ever again. Real soccermoms watch at that hour.
>Probably why cartoon net work will never have action shows in that time slot again. Real soccer moms watch that hour
You should have seen the shit storm over this
It is though, It has a few good gags so far.
I didn't laugh once throughout the 2nd episode
That says more about you than it does about the episode.
Okay then congrats. Me and you have different sense of humor. I got a laugh from the alien killing his Gf and was entertained throughout it.
That's something else I would love to see in this show: more space truckers.
It's got just as many as previous Watanabe series.
I found myself bored of some of the earlier episodes of Champloo. It really kicked into gear later on. At the end, it was awesome seeing Jin and Mugen finally admitting that they're bros.
So you have low standards
No it just means that the episode wasn't funny.
>Besides, what it lacks in substance for now, it makes up with some really damn funny gags.
What funny gags? This show is unfunny as shit.
>So you have low standards
I knew you were gonna say that .I'm glad to see you have no real argument here
Thats just your opinion man, no need to be passing it around as fact
It's too high class for plebs.
>No real arguments
>pointing out the fact that the show is unfunny and there is no funny gags
>makes no effort to prove him wrong
>LOL YOU HAVE NO ARGUMENT
So this is how Space Blandy fags argume
>Tits and ass jokes
- "Didn't you say you were an ass man?" "eh I forgot"
- Meow getting tossed out the airlock by Dandy
- everyone getting tossed out the airlock by Scarlet
- fleeing while still eating the ramen
- bad guys found them because Meow is broadcasting their every move on The Tweeter
- Ramen Pops' tragic bosozoku past
But if you're determined not to have any fun I suppose I can't stop you.
Plebs on /a/ like you only say the most plebeian responses.
Damn I hope there is a danceoff somewhere down the line.
You want me to spot you some cash, pleb?
This is how the final battle between Dandy and Dr. Gel will go down.
>Pointing out a subjexctive thing and passing it off as objective
>Get told its subjective and waved off
>Replies with " LOL YOU HAVE LOW STANDARDS"
I cant change what he thinks good comedy is, that something entirely on him. Theres no point in proving hi wrong because theres nothing wrong to point out.
Thats why I waved it off in a way where he didnt have to respond, yet he still did
best part of the show is the OP and the dub cut it for burger commercials
Stay class Ameriburgers, stay classy.
Was that suppose to be funny?
Well appereantly funimation doesnt even have the rights to either the ED or OP. Japan is being greedy and Funimation is being cheap
That's actually Funi fault and the first show will always have the full OP/ED
Appanrelty they still haven't figured out the licensing bullshit.
this is elementary school level humour
You cant argue with someone like that by pointing out gags, You're always gonna get a responses like>>100160092
But the HorribleSubs rips are from Funimation's streaming service, right? They have the OP and ED. Is it just that they can't broadcast them on TV?
Yea they cant broadcast them on the TV. Jason ( guy who runs toonami ) Has said that the 1st show on the block will always have full Op and ED, thats why he cut Shitpuddens OP and replaced it with a toonami bumper instead. He's been trying to get funi to buy them but it hasnt worked
Do babies really get outraged over fully clothed twerking?
Funi will probably buy it if the ratings are good enough.
FLCL aired in the US on a late-night timeslot, and it apparently achieved a very impressive level of mainstream success. The times may have changed, though.
You're talking out your ass
I think the show is more cute than funny. Most slice of life shows has more cutting sarcasm than this show does. Westaboo pandering will do that.
Most likely. Licensing is a crazy thing.
The tumblr whales and Feminist along with the moms raged hard as fuck at that scene. They raged so hard that Cartoon network proceeded to try and kill show DESPITE it being the second highest rated show on cartoon network at the time. They moved it around from timeslot too timeslot with no advertisements till it went dead. It's sad because that was the thing that drove out the last cartoon creator from the high 90's and early 00's. It sad too since the same episode had an actual good message for young girls and a better scene http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OMYO8cXFCRs
Never work for cartoon network.
That's not what happened. The reason that SBT was cancelled was because CN wanted Genndy to make it like Ben 10, and he refused.
>They raged so hard that Cartoon network proceeded to try and kill show DESPITE it being the second highest rated show on cartoon network at the time.
Bullshit. It was doing quite poorly overall
Unfortunately, I don't have the quote I'm thinking of on hand, but FLCL really did do quite well in the teen/young adult demographic. It's not a household name, of course, but I imagine a good sample of the now-20-to-30 US population watched and enjoyed it back when it first aired over here.
>They raged so hard that Cartoon network proceeded to try and kill show DESPITE it being the second highest rated show on cartoon network at the time
The ratings were quite dismal actually and they DID advertise it.
Naw it was actually doing good till they changed it
No it wasn't. The reason why they changed it was because it was doing poorly on Friday nights
Demarco needs to lay off the drinking, he's taking the lich king persona way to far sometimes
I distinctly remember SBT having low ratings on Friday nights.
What the fuck. Why do people ever listen to that vitriol? Companies should blacklist social media full stop. The evenheaded everyday cartoon fans gets dicked here.
>Director of Bebop
>Made some unfunny and boring shit
The murrican audience surely must be awful
For now? Nothing. It's still a strange little UFO, and a far better comedy than Kill la KIll. Only time will tell if it is good or just average.
You dislike it because it's popular and marketed at western audience. It's only prove of your immaturity, nothing else.
>t's still a strange little UFO, and a far better comedy than Kill la KIll.
Space Dandy is a comedy?
I left the TV on in the background as I am wont to do when working on things, and the promo for this episode kept playing and all I could think was “Ye gods, I am not looking forward to this.” This is the most exciting or funniest thing in the episode? This is the best thing in it to promote it? Unless you count that boinging noise, there wasn’t even a joke. I wasn’t sold on the first episode, but that did absolutely nothing to make me look forward to this one. Someone on the production staff also tweeted this week “Please watch until at least episode 4 (3 maybe?) before making up your mind,” which begs the question of why they put out a month of episodes that they suspected people wouldn’t like.
It was pretty indicative of it too. I don’t even know why they introduced the new character either. She showed up for about 30 seconds at the start, 60 more seconds in middle (where she lost pretty much all definition every time she moved) and vanished entirely again. I couldn’t even defend that as an in-between frame either as it’s just sticking out there being ugly between actually drawn close-ups of her face, or stylistic since nobody else devolved into a blocky monster as they moved, wormholes notwithstanding. The production was otherwise probably better than last week, or at least more consistent, but it was also reversed, with the blathering and stills coming at the end of the episode instead of the start, so maybe they’re just tricking my brain.
I’m not sure that the blathering about ramen is any kind of improvement over boobs and asses. Maybe I’m not Japanese enough to see the comedy inherent in ramen. I’m not sure I could point out where the comedy was even supposed to be though other than Dandy spazzing out. It beats being yelled at, or the gong and splash screen of your traditional Jump comedy, but even that was all but absent in the latter going besides some minor at best sight gags.
Naw i was laying about the rating things. It actually did poor on it own. Still was a good show though. Apparently people wanna see more noodle armed shit like AT or more LOL so randumb like Uncle granpa. Action is dead in the west. Cartoon network did however alienate Genddy to the point that he is still pissed 3 years later and wont work for them
I wasnt lying about the tumblr whales and feminist going crazy though, That did happen
Here we go again!
Uncle Grandpa scares the shit out of me. We went from Batman TAS to Uncle Grandpa. Every cartoon is a fucking prime time TV cynical banter sitcom. How many new cartoons come out each year? Like 3 or 4? Christ.
((casts curse draining life from small, helpless creature))
ANOTHER DAY, ANOTHER DOLLAR.
So did you like it or not, I cant tell. Are you on the fence ? Im really confused
Its what the american people want! Action shows not named ben ten arent getting good ratings and all of DC's action shows from the past 2 years have been killed off and replaced with comedies.DC nation is pretty much dead in the mornings and that aside from toonami was the last action block left on cartoon network. It has some cool shorts http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y3UJagJ-tnA
Apparently rumor is DC animation wnated them those guys to make a series for one of their heros ( batman wasnt it ) that was killed
In all, I think AT is fine. The shipping crap can get tiresome, though.
Grandpa is aids, however.
The closest thing I can think of recently that had was going for more realistically proportioned character designs with an action focus was Young Justice. Of course, that show's now extinct. Animated drama/action for television in the west that isn't completely interspersed with child-like goofiness is really almost non-existent.
Are you actually saying UG is good?
You honstly like hearing someone constantly shout GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD Morning!
Lies, there's no good Meow porn yet.
I wonder if they'll flesh out the Alien Hunter profession a bit more as the show progresses. The fact that you can capture sentient creatures in public with no legal action kind of makes the job seem like legalized serial kidnapping.
Where the hell are the space cops anyway.
Its more of an excuse for Dandy and his crew to go all over space and do crazy shit. Just like how in Cowboy they didn't really focus on the success of their bounty hunting, but where it took them.
On the side note, I think I enjoy watching the dub more because I can focus on its glorious animation rather than reading subs and missing out. Dubs first, Commie sub second.
I hear DC block was doing very well but the lousy toy quality killed merchandising. And mistreatment of timeslot ravaged the ratings.
>On the side note, I think I enjoy watching the dub more
>On the side note, I think I enjoy watching the dub more because I can focus on its glorious animation rather than reading subs and missing out
I like both.
>On the side note, I think I enjoy watching the dub more because I can focus on its glorious animation rather than reading subs and missing out
There are people who are really THIS stupid
It was doing well, TJ was in the top 10 fpr ratings most of the time and GL was an okay show. The toy thing was one of the reasons it got killed but it was also the fact that CN just wants more Comedies and thats why DC had to make TTGO.
> And mistreatment of timeslot ravaged the ratings.
This also, they didnt want to support the shows and with the way TTGO is being Broadcast,Its obvious
It's not good action because it tries to be funny, and it's not good comedy because the humour is shit.
And the voice acting sucks, both versions.
>because I can focus on its glorious animation rather than reading subs and missing out.
You guys are so funny sometimes!
I am the biggest faggot you've seen and the cancer killing /a/. But can't stop me from watching the show twice and loving it all the more.
Lets calm down
Green Lantern was fucking fantastic. Some of the best, non patronizing dialogue in cartoons in years.
Oh, put another man's dick in it.
What do you think next weeks episode is gonna be about? Other than Fanservice of course
What do you thhink Honeys gonna do?
Shes going to do what shes does best.
Before the "save YJ campaign" that came about to raise ratings when the show was already cancelled it was getting pretty shit ratings all throughout the first season. And yes Toy sales were terrible, face facts these shows are expensive to make and if they can't support themselves then they really don't need to be on the air. Green Lantern unfortunately was dead on arrival after the movie bombed nobody wanted anything to do with GL do to the association with the film, damn shame since it was a good show. Beware the Batman is also getting the boot as well.
Since we have all of this cartoon talk going on has anyone seen Rick and Morty?
I actually enjoy it honestly
YJ did fine. It was the extremely prolonged hiatuses and inexplicable timeslot changes that ruined it.
But yeah. Comedy makes more money. And American culture is fucked as far as cartoons go. It is never going to break free and be anything that isn't funny or mostly for little kids.
>The only dub out so far for episode 2 is some bloated, shitty 1080p version at nearly a gig in size
Being a dubfag is suffering.
I tried the sub first and had planned on being sub only, but nearly dropped mid-episode until I realized Commie's was dual audio and gave it a shot for the hell of it. The dub is the only thing that makes it watchable.
>Before the "save YJ campaign" that came about to raise ratings when the show was already cancelled it was getting pretty shit ratings all throughout the first season.
Not really you can go on websites for that sort of thing and see that it was getting okay ratings and wasnt really down. The second season was up and down most of the time but overall it was solid
>face facts these shows are expensive to make and if they can't support themselves
Maybe the toys shouldn't be so shitty?
Also beware the Batman is pretty shit so far so im glad its gone
Rick and morty is great!
The people who thought they were going to like or thought it was going to be good hyped it up so much the only way they couldn't be disappointed would be for it to be a surprise masterpiece and the people who were convinced that it was going to be bad set out to look for so much shit to complain about that the only way for them to think of it as being good was for it to be amazing.
In other words, it was average when it should have been perfect or horrible.
>YJ did fine.
Then why is it cancelled?
I've checked those websites and it's ratings weren't good for most of the first season, the second season got a jump only after it was canned.
>Maybe the toys shouldn't be so shitty?
That's a really poor excuse given the shit that flies off shelves nowadays.
>Then why is it cancelled?
Not him, but have you heard of the man called Stuart Snyder? His goal is to destroy everything nice on CN.
>I've checked those websites and it's ratings weren't good for most of the first season, the second season got a jump only after it was canned.
What are you talking about ? The 1st season averaged over 1 million in the ratings
>Then why is it cancelled?
Because its not a shitty comedy,we've been over this.
Yes he's a guy /co/ thinks is the devil incarnate but believe it or not he's not the reason YJ got canned, it just wasn't doing well
>The 1st season averaged over 1 million in the ratings
Bullshit. It's ratings on it's original timeslot (Fridays) were bad and then it moved to DC Nation where it recovered a bit.
>Because its not a shitty comedy,we've been over this.
No because it performed poorly. Go be a delusional fantard somewhere else.
>these shows are expensive to make
Cartoon network didnt fun it,DC did.
>The 1st season averaged over 1 million in the ratings
Even if that was true that's pretty fucking shit for a CN show.
>Because its not a shitty comedy,we've been over this.
No because the ratings weren't that good and the sales for the toy and comic tie-ins were abysmal and even the videogame that came out recently bombed.
He never said CN funded it you fucking retarded
>Bullshit. It's ratings on it's original timeslot (Fridays) were bad and then it moved to DC Nation where it recovered a bit.
This is wrong though because it did better in friday where it had more than 1.4 million viewrs and when it changed to Dc nation it dropped off too a mil
'>No because it performed poorly. Go be a delusional fantard somewhere else.
The one being delusional here is you. I get the feeling you enjoy one of the shitty comdies that are out and thats why your so mad
>Even if that was true that's pretty fucking shit for a CN show.
Good enough to land it in the top ten for the network
>the videogame that came out recently bombed.
The video game was bad and came out way after the show was canceled
Actually they did. YJ is animated by DC's animated studios and CN co-funded the production.
Start talking about dandy again you fucking faggots
Do you think they're gonna expand on the alien hunter gimmick and do you think well ever see a abck story for dandy? For some reason i get the feeling his back story will be left a mystery
>This is wrong though because it did better in friday where it had more than 1.4 million viewrs and when it changed to Dc nation it dropped off too a mil
Wrong again. The reason why they pulled it from that block was because their Friday lineup was dying in the ratings against Disney and Nick. It actually did better on DC Nation.
>The one being delusional here is you.
You're the one insinuating that YJ was canceled for no reason. That's pretty damn delusional.
>Good enough to land it in the top ten for the network
Actually it wasn't. It got beat ot by fucking Beyblade
Nobody cares you fucking faggot
The problem is that this is another show that tries to have the characters be sentient bumper cars for the big dumb ending and money shots instead of people we actually give a fuck about.
I could care less about the actual story or that if it's stand alone, they could make shit with popsicle sticks, but there has be characters that go beyond archetypes. Maybe FLCL could scoot by with it for audiences, and maybe even Gurren Lagann could get away with it, but it's 2014, we want the action, the comedy, AND developed characters. No excuses. Maybe they shoulda thought of that before they filled up the first episode with a bunch of dumbass 4th wall jokes. I have yet to see anything actually funny in an anime. Western animation is shit, but at least it can sometimes be EFFECTIVE, not good, and get a laugh anyway. This shit isn't even effective.
The Japanese who produce this shit are fucking robots I swear to god.
>Wrong again. The reason why they pulled it from that block was because their Friday lineup was dying in the ratings against Disney and Nick. It actually did better on DC Nation.
EVery credible news source says differently
>You're the one insinuating that YJ was canceled for no reason. That's pretty damn delusional.
I gave out reasons, They want more comedies and dont like Action shows any more.
>Actually it wasn't. It got beat ot by fucking Beyblade
This is also wrong
This is my last post,I'm done discussing this on here. This is a space dandy thread and not a YJ thread afterall.
>The problem is that this is another show that tries to have the characters be sentient bumper cars for the big dumb ending and money shots instead of people we actually give a fuck about.
I care about Dandy, meow and qt so far they're pretty likeable.
>we want the action, the comedy, AND developed characters
Its been two episodes,Clam the fuck down. You really expect a fully developed character in two episodes? At least in the second one their relationship was fleshed out and they got more interaction time
>EVery credible news source says differently
Your ass is not credible news
>I gave out reasons, They want more comedies and dont like Action shows any more.
No and no. Keep spouting bullshit
>This is also wrong
Actually it's right.
>This is my last post,I'm done discussing this on here. This is a space dandy thread and not a YJ thread afterall.
Why don't you fuck off back to /co/ with the rest of the retarded YJfags.
This wasn't the first time it was catered to western audience and it certainly won't be the last.
>Welcome to Shinichiro Watanabe.
I thought I sensed the red suit and wig somewhere.
What's funny is that the show never made it to America and bombed pretty hard in Japan.
I didn't say fully developed, I just said something, ANYTHING, some ray of light that would give me hope that any of these fucks acting as the stars for the show would show something beyond the same tired old archetypes we always see.
I cant resist
You think you;re not suting bullshit? You sure have presented sources to actually back yourself up as well! I mean just look at all those non existen links
>Why don't you fuck off back to /co/ with the rest of the retarded YJfags.
You act more like /co/, Getting annally devestated when your shitty comedies get called out
Okay now im done talking about this.
Stan Lee can't into anime, who would have thunk.
What archtypes would that be?
Still waiting for a good GIF of him chasing a laser dot around the ship
or hitting a catnip bong like a boss
But Bebop and Champloo had a decent story to keep you interested, But I agree with the OST part.
2 episodes in and not much has happened at all apart from twitter and eating shit loads of ramen.
This guy is posting in both /a/ and /co/.
It caters to western audiences the same way any Watanabe anime does. It's not like its content isn't the usual fare for the japs.
I'm liking it quite a bit. Meow is great. I'm sure it'll just get better.
Its pretty obvious that IRC never sleeps.
This thread started with some /v/ tier bait post "What went wrong" and people actually respond to that crap, meanwhile there is another space dandy thread that's dead because it actually discusses the show without shitposting.
Stop falling for such obvious bait already.
Bebop: Some bounty and then some character development for all characters involved. Even the new ones.
Samurai Champloo: Three people go on a journey to get one person the her father. Some crazy/random shit happens along the way.
Dandy: An empire is chasing the main character for some reason that's yet to be identified. The main character is somewhat oblivious as to the who/why while trying to his job.
Are you kidding? You have the manly hyper idiot, the mascot with a twist of pervert, and the robot representing the foil in Japanese comedy who's only bland role is to say "EHHHH THIS MAKES NO SENSE". It's not special to anime either, really. It exists in a more subtle form in American sitcoms that's still just as annoying. Having all those characters combined, particularly the dynamic between Dandy and that robot, it makes for what I call apologist humor. They can't play anything straight because they assume the audience is retarded so all the momentum and the characters STOP, then explain the joke, and then excuse or apologize for what was supposed to be a shitty joke on purpose.
Just fucking tell the joke and move on, play it straight.
>who's only bland role is to say "EHHHH THIS MAKES NO SENSE"
Except he hasn't done this and so far only cat has done this in episode one
For me it's the pacing. It's like sitting still or not playing sounds is something that has to be avoided at all costs. It reminds me of western animations, those ones where it's literally hyperactive scenes, screaming, and more hyperactive scenes.
I'm not a small child, you don't need to keep my attention by being loud and constantly shifting attention to yourself. This is the reason I hate 90% of western productions.
what thread has dicussion in it?
It doesn't have to follow an exact quote, but the robot definitely fills that role.
Twice, it questioned the narrator's skills instead of just letting it be like it was supposed to be funny, or "ironically unfunny".
>Wow, he really phoned that one in, didn't he?
It's entirely unnecessary and it takes away from the point of having the narrator, who could essentially be just an omnipotent, unseen character that could add a dynamic that's at least a little more unique than from what I've seen.
That's what I stated, yes.
>You really expect a fully developed character in two episodes?
There's been shows this season with better developed characters in one episode than Space Dandy manages in two. Action shows, even.
>but the robot definitely fills that role
He hasnt done it so far,He's only pointed out that his crew is useless
>I'm not a small child, you don't need to keep my attention by being loud and constantly shifting attention to yourself.
See? This is why the anime industry is shit. They should be making their animes specially tailored to >>100163303 this anon's tastes, but they clearly aren't doing it. When will you learn, Japan?
I just quoted the episode, you bell end, that is, WORD FOR WORD, what that little autotune robot said, what I put in greentext in my last post. That was a fourth wall joke specifically put in to explain the narrator's willful incompetence, which was fine on its own.
They aren't explaining jokes.. at all. It's just gags man. This shit is typical Japanese humor..
>I'm not a small child
>This is the reason I hate 90% of western productions
90% of any form of media blows buddy.
>there are shows
>I just won't name any
What? This season blows. None of the shows have any character development at this point. They're mostly gag/gimmick shows.
But you see, pointing out that the narrator exists and isn't just a storytelling convention is HILARIOUS (to 6 year olds).
If they just adapted Shamo we wouldn't be having this discussion.
You're really bad at this.
Yea but thats not really him being the straight man and commenting on how ridiculous the show is. What you quoted was a gag in of itself
>What? This season blows. None of the shows have any character development at this point. They're mostly gag/gimmick shows.
Nobunagun is a juvenile blow-shit-up show and has much better characters than Space Dandy.
But they do, otherwise I wouldn't be posting on an Anime board about Anime. I wouldn't be a fan of the medium if I didn't like what was being shown, in general at least. This series is just too fast for more liking. This is pretty much one series compared to years of other series'. Your shitposting holds no merit.
I'm not sure if you're arguing or not. I just don't like this at the moment.
Bebop: The intersecting lives of bounty hunters a former mob hit man, an ex cop, a woman from the past, and a kooky hacker girl as they take on jobs through the galaxy and as they go along their pasts catch up with them.
Champloo: A girl begs for the assistance of a tyrant who grew up the hard knocks and a rogue who killed his master as they go on a jpurney to find a samurai who smells of sunflowers.
Dandy: Three guys...in space....and do they stuff.
That's not a standalone gag, it's connected. Gags can build onto other gags. The robot has also had the most subdued role of all the important characters featured that has a direct relationship with the protagonists.
>Dandy: Three guys...in space....and do they stuff.
Which is perfect, it doesn't need to be serious, it doesn't need to be story-heavy, just three alien hunter having wacky, over the top space adventures.
Its like you people have forgotten how to enjoy simple things.
It's whacky, i like it
Meow deserves it.
nailed it. This show is FUN Can you believe it! And i am happy that it doesn't try to be more. No pseudo-intellectual bullshit or preschool philosophy. Just fun... in space.
Also, i want to be Dandy, chilling in space with my cat homie and shit
>ALL DAT LOW STANDARDS
sorry, not all of us can be 2deepfags pondering the meaning of people clapping at a pussy mech pilot
The second episode was much better than the first. Very fun from start to finish. I was really disappointed with episode 1, but this week's made me much more excited for the future episodes.
>I'd rather be a pleb than someone who knows what they're talking about
you were already told in the other thread
So you need forced melodrama to enjoy anything? What are you, a bored housewife?
So you just want an unfunny dudebro comedy in space? What are you 12?
I want anything that isn't a goddamned slice of life semi-yuri feels bullshit or maho shoujo #132546
Jeepers, you're so right, anon, I can't wait until my tastes are as mature and refined as yours!
But seriously, how does it smell having having your head stuck mid-colon?
Doesn't smell as bad as your tastes that's for sure.
Doesn't smell as bad as that comeback.
Man that's terrible. How can you smell taste?
Based on the rumination in >>100155973, this could turn out to be an interesting show.
Space Dandy has a Western feel to it. I swear I've seen the plot element of the MC being chased around by the badguy while the badguy mistakes the MC as being some badass because he keeps escaping even though he's only doing so through luck. I can't put my finger on where I've seen it, but I know I've seen it before.
Didn't Dandy die on the first episode?
What's going on?
Nothing, it's based
especially the animation in episode 2
Irresponsible Captain Taylor has a similar setup.
I rike it a lot
each episode exploring something new about the characters and world
Nigga do you even Thundercats?
It implies that Spike didn't die in Bebop.
Panty and stocking x Sealab 2021. But in space.
So much shitflinging. Feels good to actually like anime. Maybe some of you should look for a new hobby.
>forgetting about Ein - the corgi that is probably smarter than most humans
I've been under the impression that most people on /a/ don't actually enjoy anime, they just need something to pass the time, and also to give them something to talk about.
Manga bros are exempt from this.
Lack of emotional connection due to lelsorandom story and action scenes.
It's a vanity project "look I can make an animated short into a full series".
We just can't have really nice things anymore, can we?
4th wall breaking overdose.
Because it's garbage made specifically to appeal to a western audience
But I'm western audience and I'm not amused by it.
Never seen the dub. They don't have an OP/ED? That's the best part of the show.
Would agree with you on that.
I would also like to know why a big part of the Space Dandy fans seems to hate moe ans SoL so much.
>I would also like to know why a big part of the Space Dandy fans seems to hate moe ans SoL so much.
All went right, it's a good show so far.
>We want the toonami audience
And then space dandy became a flop.
Who cares? It's already produced and will air, I get my Space Dandy and that's all I want.
I don't delude myself with the illusion of being actually market relevant, since all I do is pirate and post on /a/. I'm generally pretty uninterested in stuff like marketing, merchandise or sales and don't think such stuff really belongs on /a/.
>thinking his tastes are objective.
>Dandy bumbles around
>Does something cool/stupid by accident
>Empire guy gets mad
>At the end Dandy does something genuine
i like it
