Continuing the Dragonball storytime from yesterday.
Hope everyone's having a wonderful Sunday.
Since a single volume seems to fit pretty well in a thread, the plan is to finish this kanzenban today.
Casual reminder Roshi destroyed the FUCKING MOON with a kamehameha. Taking physics into account, he'd have to possess a power level far greater than Vegita himself when he came to Earth.
Thanks for doing this, I haven't read through it all in more than five or six years
I've been waiting all day
I wanted to start a bit later this time, since more people are on in the evening, I think.
Toriyama sure loved those harem pants.
So he murdered them?
No, you silly goose. He just sent them TO THE NEXT DIMENSION.
This is Mai's introduction?
It's strange that they made her into a pedophile in the recent movie.
When will the new manga come out?
It even shows you that he literally took them to the Moon, negro
Where'd you get these scans from? The ones I have are fucking awful.
oh boy, color!
bakabt, although the scans turn to shit sometime during dragonball z.
H.A.O Scanlations. Last time I checked he was up to the 22nd Tenkaichi Budokai.
What new manga?
Viz is releasing the Full Color Comics version of the Saiyan arc in February if that is what you meant.
Cool, I'll have to download them. I got mine from BakaBT a while ago, but the quality was pretty much unreadable.
spoilered for lewd
The problem is that people can't live on the moon
The rabbit gangsters can in Dragon Ball.
He is moving slowly along and plans to do the whole thing.
There is also another group that took the Japanese Kanzenban scans and edited in the dialogue(I know they didn't translate it but I'm not sure where they got it from). I'm sure if you search you can find it.
Vegeta destroyed a planet with ONE finger, not just a moon.
Only in the anime.
Not that I doubt Vegeta isn't stronger, it is clear that he is.
I really love how these limited-color color pages look.
Much better than the white knight he becomes in Z. Chichi must have whipped him good.
Give her the Dragon Bawls Yamcha.
Mai is too pure, would waifu.
Why the fuck haven't I been using 4chanX
Back when Yamcha wasn't just Toriyama punchbag. Nigga had a really shitty luck, died thousand of times only to be NTR'd by Vegeta
>Suddenly the brick walls are now metal walls.
I see what he did there.
They were put into different rooms.
NEED T/L NOTES PRONTO
here ya go
Seeing this kinda makes me wish DB and DBZ were redone, like HxH was redone. But knowing japanese sensibilities, they would want that annoying, screeching, dying cat of a female VA they had for Goku and his sons from the original series.
Could babyBroly beat child Goku's super ape form? I think their PLs are similar
Who would you rather have voice Goku?
Sugita or Wakamoto, for adult Goku. Kid Goku could be anyone.
I could see Sugita working for Goku, but Wakamoto really doesn't fit here.
I know everyone loves this dude, but his voice doesn't fit Goku at all. In my opinion it barely fit Cell besides Imperfect.
>Goku sends the rabbit gang to the moon
>Roshi destroys the moon in the tenkaichi
Yamcha is at the top of his game for this arc. After this arc he was used to show how characters were stronger. "Even Yamcha was beaten!? This guy must be strong!"
Vegeta was used for the same purpose.
Some Japanese kid wrote a letter and asked Toriyama about this. His answer was that the Rabbit Gang went on space adventures. There are couple of games that go into this.
gonna get some dinner, be back in a bit.
Yeah, Toriyama said they floated around space. I think in the DS game he comes back as a boss and explains how he escaped in time.
Thanks for posting all of these!
I remember things started getting better from this point on. Less focus on goofy/ecchi shit, and it actually tries to take itself seriously from time to time.
It's still pretty damned goofy for a while, though.
22nd Tenkaichi Budokai to the end of the Freeza arc is the golden period for DB, imo. But yeah after this the story it stops being about a mystical adventure and turns more into Hong Kong cinema. And it is always a bit goofy.
yeah, I'd agree it starts to pick up
"And then the Tenka’ichi Budōkai began. But why did you do that sort of a development?
Up until the Tenka’ichi Budōkai began, the series hadn’t been all that popular. That’s what Torishima-san had told me. “Your protagonist is rather plain. That’s why it’s not popular.”, he said. Personally, since I was doing a fighting story for this series, I had intentionally made the protagonist’s clothing excessively plain. So this annoyed me, but then I figured it out. “Well, let’s increase its popularity” I thought. When I had designed Goku’s character, the words that best represented him were “I want to become strong”. So I thought I’d bring that to the front. Even during “Dr. Slump”, the tournament-like events such as the Penguin Village Gran Prix or the Mini-Event had been amazingly popular. So I’d simply make the story into a tournament format. From there the Tenka’ichi Budōkai was born. I temporarily withdrew the other characters besides Goku, brought back Kame-Sen’nin, and added Kuririn as a new character. From there it got popular before I knew it."-Toriyama
Man, I always wanted to live in a house/island like Roshi
it does look pretty comfy
I don't envy you. I check the thread every 20mins or so, but knowing captcha, it must take you half a day to post a volume, with such a long post timer.
I've actually never had much trouble with captcha. It's still a pain, but it's not enough to make me buy a pass. The post timer does suck, though.
It's not like I'm doing anything right now, though. I've got a week before college starts.
>it is always a bit goofy.
Yeah, but before this point is was pretty much a full, dedicated gag manga. That's what I meant by "less focus" on it, in favor of more substance.
It didn't post this page for some reason. This should go between the previous two.
Do a gag manga, you? What could go wrong, you say?
That is weird, why does Turtle Hermit have a picture of Yajirobe if he hasn't appeared in the story yet?
So quick question, I've been watching the Dragonball anime for the first time and I fucking love it. My favorite thing about the series is that it's funny as fuck and the gags are fucking amazing, my favorite part so far was when Kuririn used the Turtle Hermit and Bulma to spray blood on the invisible man so Yamucha could see him. I'm at about episode 90 at the moment, and I've started thinking about if I'm going to watch DBZ after I finish. Should I watch DBZ, or should I just stick to DB Kai instead? I kind of think I might not even want to watch it if it gets extremely serious or all the fun characters go away. Opinions?
holy fucking hell what country did you grow up in where you didn't watch dbz as a kid?
Kai is a good choice, can't see a reason not to suggest it since DBZ is full of filler and time sinks. If you have seen original animated DBZ uncut like it was in the west, then go for kai. If you never seen DBZ uncut, then go for original airing.
Mah boi Kirllin.
DBZ is a lot less fun and goofy and focusses mostly on long battles, though it still has a few moments.
Even the more goofy buu arc quickly ends up plauged with power levels and tedious fighting.
Just watch Kai.
DBZ uncut. Then Kai if you want.
How did Goku know that the mermaid was a woman?
maybe there aren't any mermen? Or it was just a lucky guess.
....Her chest butt?
She didn't have a peepee
>Hong Kong cinema
What exactly does that mean?
It means you need to watch a hong kong cinema and culture yourself, murrican.
Eh, it depends.
If you really, really REALLY love the kind of feeling that Dragonball gives you, then a bunch of Gohan's filler episodes emulate that same feeling
That's kind of what I was thinking, because I've never seen DBZ before.
I didn't have cable when I was a kid, furthermore I doubt my parents would've let me watch it anyway.
That's exactly what I was worried about. I never bothered with Dragonball for the longest time because whenever I met someone who liked it they would never shut up about fights that last 5 episodes, power up scenes that go on for 15 minutes, and power level dickery. Things that feel so removed from what I've seen of Dragonball so far that it's almost shocking. I'll probably end up watching Dragonball Z uncut for weeaboo cred's sake, and I'll try my hardest not to resent the original series for it.
Well, if you're watching it on your computer, you can skip the to whatever parts you want.
He probably asked.
This is delicious Lunch, you must eat it.
>I'll probably end up watching Dragonball Z uncut for weeaboo cred's sake, and I'll try my hardest not to resent the original series for it.
Going by the text of your typing pattern, I'm going to assume you are at least older than 14 or just a jaded fuck. DBZ is the highlight of many young boy's youth. You won't enjoy as much now that you are older, but it still delivers, just don't raise your expectations too much.
The anime is eh.
Read the manga. If you have to watch, watch the Japanese version.
How does goku know what a pachinko ball is?
You are going to love the OP's and ED's of original japanese airing.
Yeah, if I go in expecting it to still be fun but maybe not as fun as the first 150 episodes, I'll probably be fine.
And yeah, watching 300 odd anime series makes one a jaded asshole when it comes to the subject, doesn't mean I can't have fun though.
what does "Fu fu fu" mean?
Is it an onamonapia similar to laughing?
I think so, yeah. It's sort of like evil laughter, I think.
So 80's I just had a relapse.
It's the japanese equivalent to 'Mwa ha ha"
i'll be honest, i thought you guys on /a/ hated dragon ball. this is a pleasant surprise. thanks for this, op. reminds me that i have to buy the kanzenban when i get some more money.
I'd imagine it's not a hate for dragonball so much as a dislike for the people who have only watched Dragonball Z.
The series itself is pretty well beloved.
I think most people were just displeased with what it turned into.
/a/ is not a hive mind. Also, is you're shift key broken or something?
That makes me happy to hear. I just kind of figured you all would dislike the series because it's "entry-level."
Entry level isn't necessarily bad. Cowboy Bebop is considered entry level, too. It just means there's not a lot of discussion of it, since everyone here has likely already seen and talked it to death years ago.
entry level doesn't mean bad... cowboy bebop is entry level and it's great.
Also, this is the last chapter I'm posting for today.
There isn't really anything bad about entry level stuff, except for those fucks who think that it's the best thing ever because they haven't seen anything else.
Right. I gotcha.
Is Dragon Ball GT canon?
No Yes Maybe
and that's it for tonight. I'll keep the thread bumped for a while with some chapter art, though.
Why is Krillin such a cunt
Also can you start earlier tomorrow?
It's really late in Yurop
A skilled martial artist uses every tool at their disposal.
Thanks for the thread. I haven't read Dragon Ball in years.
I can try. No promises, though.
So he can one shot Buu?
yeah, too bad he's on the moon. which gets destroyed
u 2 m8
is there a torrent of this?
i never realized an english scan of this quality existed
i need me an answer
I got these from Bakabt, and there's probably other options as well.
>So he can one shot Buu?
Buu can transform other people too. So since Buu is clearly the more powerful sorcerer the Rabbit is outclassed.
No, gotenks transformed Buu into a volley ball, but it didn't last long.
>not five seconds afterwards
By the way, I'm just here to make up for lost time, don't mind me.
So I just started reading this and in chapter one Bulma shoots Goku and is surprised it doesn't kill him...
She shot a little kid with the intention of killing it.
Sounds like something /k/ will do.
