So it's been bothering me for a while now. Why the fuck did everyone turn gay somwhere at the middle of the show? Was it something the village did? I noticed that all the other students turned gay too.
I liked the show though,
Did you skip through all the boring infodumps?
Did you miss the whole bonobos thing?
They fuck to keep the stress down and they are gay to prevent pregnancies.
OP, you reminded me to finish another series in my backlog. As to why they became gay and lesbians, I... Never mind. I forgot what I was going to say and I don't remember most part of the show either, except for that totally gay grass scene.
Such a progressive idea.
Why can't we use it today?
Because we can't add bonobo DNA to our.
So it's been bothering me for a while now. Why the fuck did everyone ignore ep 5 explanation?
Because people are stupid. Really stupid.
The culture was described as encouraging a freewheeling primate-like pansexuality.
In a situation where you grow up like that, it's not surprising that people who swing that way would be open about it.
The reason why it wasn't noticeable before was because they timeskipped right from the cusp before puberty goes crazy, to when teenage hormones were at their very strongest. The feelings under the surface were brought out in force.
Maria was most interested in Mamoru but I guess she and Saki had always been close...so why not?
Mamoru has a different personality than the others, he was only interested in Maria from the start.
Shun and Satoru are harder to see, but it's made clear that Satoru was strongly in love with Shun.
Shun and Saki both probably realized they loved each other most but circumstances and such conspired to keep them attached to others.
I really don't think the author intended any of the relationships to be fanservice.
Because the average anime fan intelligence is pretty low. Why do you think LN and Nasu shit is pretty popular? They are used to be spoonfeded and can't do a simple 1+1.
If this was an average anime, you would have a narrator explaining why they all got teh gay 5 times during the episodes and people would claim good writing.
Maria never loved Mamoru. She cares about him like a mother would. But she was never romantically attracted to him.
Mamoru best everything
That crossed my mind, but wouldn't it still seem weird to them, since they all had mommys and daddys, and no one from the previous generations seemed gay?
That kid had a shit life
He got to fuck Maria.
He was the only winner in that show.
But he didn't get to live. I think that's pretty bad.
living is overrated
Would you live forever without having ever fuck anyone, or fuck one of the most gorgeous woman ever and die?
I wouldn't want to live in that crapsack world.
At least he went out with a bang.
But she was probably thinking about Saki's boobs while he fucked her.
So they wouldn't accidentally a baby.
I think he was on the verge of being crazy (if he wasn't already) when he died. I seirously pity him.
If we added any more bonobo DNA to ours, we would just turn into bonobos.
>(if he wasn't already)
You have to be pretty crazy to fuck the practically comatose lobotomized body of your (probably drooling, for good measure) friend.
I would imagine he had a hefty breakdown afterwards, or even during it.
It makes me so horny and sad at the same time.
No, they first fucked and he got her pregnant, then lobotomy ensued (not to him though, he just got killed).
I think they were pretty well treated actually. Bonobos breeds only if they are in good living condition. Squealer kill them after the baby was born.
EH EH EH, does anyone think about the humans with moel rats' DNA? The "monster rats".
Bonobos and hipster shit.
Mamoru couldn't into forced gay.
Bonobos, it wasn't really well explained. Apart from episode 8 and its lack of budget, it was pretty good. First ending was marvelous too.
How is it hipster?
Not really. Sure, there's "only" about a 2% difference, but considering the vastness of the genome that 2% is quite a lot. We're talking tens of millions of alterations before you get from human to bonobo.
Perhaps he meant "hippie shit"?
I still don't get what happened to Shun.
What an shitty anime
I thought we went through this already. Can't you just ignore the threads if you're that insecure, please?
We are going that way. Fast.
1 year later, some retards still try to troll SSY.
Their memories would be altered to have them have homosexual romances to keep their stress in check and to prevent unwanted teenage pregnancies.
This is why Maria and Mamoru had a child after they left the village as their minds weren't altered.
I thought the queerats forced them to have a baby?
>went out with a bang
First of all, it's a great show.
Second of all, it makes sense that, since they are so terrified of children, the society would discourage opposite-sex partnerships other than those that are explicitly arranged as per the whole "pairing up" thing that they show later on. My thought is that it becomes a cultural thing. Teens of opposite sexes are kept separate as much as possible and their "sexual" urges are veered towards those of the same sex to prevent procreation.
Also while we're on the topic of this show, it was really good and underrated. I don't think I've seen something better since it aired.
He was simply a ghost, I think.
I thought he was too powerful and had to realease his power somehow and somewhere. For the sake of people's security, he went far away to sacrifice himself without harming anyone. But maybe I'm confusing some things.
yea something like that. He became a karma demon so the elders had to kill him. They failed but he was still responsible enough that he moved away from everyone else (and maybe killed himself?)
I think he killed himself. I don't remember very well, but no one but Saki was around him.
It's explained better in the novel.
Basically, male/female sexual relationships are forbidden until the pairing ritual.
There are no limitations on same-sex relationships and they have modified genes to prevent inhibitions.
So what's normal in their society is to form a same sex couple until the age of sexual maturity is reached. Nearly all of those pairings end at that point, when they move on to wanting families and when heterosexual sex is allowed.
So it's basically an outlet until they can have the real deal.
Everyone was bisexual in that universe. No one cared because their children where all devil children so some couples not procreated was just all right with them.
I'm guessing what annoyed people was that all that "gay" was condensed in a single episode so suddenly.
Basically he couldn't prevent his power from leaking out and warping his surroundings. It's psychic incontinence or some shit.
Don't try to explain it to OP, the show did it fine and if you didn't get it you're a retard.
Scared / stressed out cantus user = walking atomic bomb.
Sex calms people (that's why anons are always so pissed off because masturbation isn't so effective)
Gay teen relations = no teen pregnancy before finishing school / growing into adults
Later everyone switches back to 'normal'.
It's in their genes. If they are stressed, they are programmed to start (hate)sexing each other. This plus the brainwashing made them all crave sex, gay or not.
So it was the Mamoru/Maria's kid who killed Kiroumaru's whole army, right? And she died because death feedback triggered when she killed Kiroumaru?
Then why didn't she die when she killed the army
This show is really fun to talk about because of all the subtext.
For example, at one point there's that thing about how "our names have meaning."
Maria means Mary, or the woman who was the mother of the Messiah. Shun means talented or gifted. Satoru is a verb that means "to know/understand." Mamoru means "protector." And then of course there's Saki, who it's explained means "youngest child."
Reiko means "beautiful," which doesn't really have much to do with her. How many of you guys even remembered her? Heh. This show was pretty clever in getting you to forget all about Reiko by the end.
No. Pay attention for fuck's sake. Messiah only disarmed the rats. The other rats massacred them later that's why Kiroumaru managed to slip away.
>So it was the Mamoru/Maria's kid who killed Kiroumaru's whole army, right?
No, she just stole their weapons, and the enemy queerats slaughtered them.
>i didn't even watch the show
She didn't have death feedback.
She had, it's just inverted by querats' education.
Did you search all of that? That's rather impressive, I didn't know that about any of those.
Sorry if I'm wrong, but wasn't Reiko the first girl who disappeared because of her weak power and the "cats"?
Satoru got Saki. Checkmate.
The elders gave him poison pills. But his unconscious wanted to keep living, so the unconscious cantus leekage broke the poison down on a molecular level. He was crushed by roots or something that his own cantus controlled, right after he threw Saki away from the cabin he was living in.
At some point I recall him knowing he had been drugged from the start, he accepted his death as it was.
Yeah, I just googled it on a whim because I noticed the Maria connection off the top of my head and wondered if the other characters had names with meanings. They all seem to make sense except for Mamoru's. It makes me curious who or what he was "protecting." Maybe because he (failed) to be Maria's protector.
Cute grill that got taken away in ep. 1. Why was she taken anyway? I thought they were relatively safe after entering Sage Academy.
hmm now that you mention it i remember something about pills. I just had this image of the cat sent to kill him but shun kills the cat instead
I just watch this show for the first time yesterday, and I don't understand why people made a huge deal about the whole "everyone is bi" deal. The story seemed mostly straightforward to me. my only question is how Messiah managed to kill Shisei. They mentioned something about the whole power leaking thing, but that didn't quite make sense to me.
he was protecting his virginity.
He failed ?
I think even if you enter but you're still pretty bad you get snatched anyway. She was the one who always messed up right?
She was in Harmony School and she was removed because she couldn't master her cantus. Strictly speaking, because she was hazardous and unstable.
It was a huge deal because it was weird to see an entire class of gays. Felt a little off, and there was no warning. Suddenly there was nothing but homoseks.
The "fiend" killed Shisei with cantus. Even though humans have cantus, their bodies are weak. Since she wasn't wired to trigger death feedback on killing humans, Shisei was no problem for her.
Saki got to nail Maria too, in all fairness.
They are not safe until they are like 17 or so.
Said something like "in previous civilizations, someone was considered a living human after 16 weeks in the mothers womb. For children who control cantus, this age was extended to the age of 17"
Or something like that.
I remember connecting his name (Mamoru) to protecting, in this case, protecting Maria. Wasn't that all he wanted, despite being weak?
She wasn't very powerful, she was weak and didn't have many chances of surviving.
>Why was she taken anyway?
I think they said being bad at using your powers is an early sign that you may be able to become a karmic demon (i.e. cantus leaks out subconsciously), since it pretty much means you have weak control over your powers.
Yeah. She didn't have good control of her cantus.
>Felt a little off, and there was no warning. Suddenly there was nothing but homoseks.
That was consistent with the overall style of the show, though. It kept throwing bizarre things at you and forcing you to figure out what they meant and work them into your understanding of what was going on. I actually really liked that. It kept me interested.
I think her inability to properly control her power made her a potential Karmic Demon, I guess.
It's completely explained in the show
>don't want too many people in the villages
>teens are full of hormones
>"hey, let's engineer humans so that they're gay during their teens, so that they don't have kids"
I don't really agree. We knew that their society was different, but then, all of a sudden, their entire class is nothing but gay couples. Except for Mamoru, who Saki bullies because she's in a relationship with his crush. I didn't mind the fact that Saki and Maria and Shun and Saturo were together. The fact that EVERYBODY was homoseks at that point was what irked me.
It didn't bug me, I was laughing a lot though. The part where Shun and Satoru are rolling around on the hill and Shun's shirt flies open... that was pretty golden. I do remember thinking "what the hell is going on?" but I was enjoying it way too much for it to be a negative for me.
>they have modified genes to prevent inhibitions
Shitsekai Yaoi confirmed for forced gay.
Saki doesn't bully him?
Remember its a choice.
So he couldn't protect himself against a direct attack on his body then? Just seems weird to me, given how powerful he was supposed to be.
Ah, well, she's all like "You like Maria, right? Well, too bad. She's my GF."
Wasn't it stated that cantus is not particularly good for defense?
She was sexually frustrated.
Yeah, but at least it was self-aware in the way it delivered it.
If two people control the same object with cantus "an intereference pattern appears and it becomes a dangerous environment", I think. I believe that was said during that weird tournament with the clay dolls. Plus, what killed Shisei was the unconscious cantus leaked from the fiend, if I understood the anime correctly. I dunno if that makes it any different, but there's that as well.
Oh, yeah, there was nothing wrong with how it was shown. Nothing wrong with gay couples either. It was just such a sudden shift in tone, especially right after Shun and Saki's encounter in the canoe.
Ah, shitposter-kun is back. There were 2 great SSY threads yesterday. You were missed.
He did nothing wrong.
Don't give it attention.
Doesn't mean hes nothing more than an ugly queerrat.
They are conditioned to not make their cantus collide with another user cantus. This means not only he can't damage Maria's daughter but he can't stop her from damaging any part of his body.
Form the moment he faced her he assumed he had lost and just tried to stopped her for a while. It was just a matter of time until her cantus' influence reached his body and killed him.
They didn't "turn gay." The story progressed from their childhoods to their teenage years, where they have been programmed to relieve stress by being sexually open with multiple partners regardless of gender, which yes is normal in that society.
sorry. I had to.
nope, hes a human, just like you and me
Fite me IRL, fag.
maybe like you.
Didn't they explain that when they were lolis and about to fuck each other when in captive or are you fucking retarded?
We cant have SSY threads that dont start with stupid questions.
At least one person has to be baffled by something to have a thread.
People tend to ignore how clingy and touchy the girls were with each other in the early episodes, too.
>For children who control cantus, this age was extended to the age of 17
That was probably also a way of getting around the death feedback for the people who had to deal with problem children, I can't remember if it was explicitly mentioned.
Well i don't think just psychologically believing that they can still be "aborted" prior to turning 17 would stop death feedback; that is why they had the cats do it.
Because unlike them, we can masturbate
Believing seemed to work for the people who knew the truth about the queerats. I figured it was something decided so many generations ago that it became remained as inherent knowledge even if you knew the truth, so it would still work.
Quuerats aren't humans though. They were created and breed from humans yes, but they were bred specifically so they would change enough that they wouldn't trigger death feedback.
If what you say was true, then the 'fiend' incident would have been no big deal if they could just kill any kid below the age of 17.
They can't masturbate?
Its immoral anon-chan.
after the world collapsed the knowledge was lost
They wouldn't be that fucked up if they could.
>the 'fiend' incident would have been no big deal
Not necessarily, since they don't seem to be able to use their power effectively in direct contest with another's power, which is why they are so intent on ctaching shit before it escalates to the point where there is a mental break and active antagonistic use or passive constant leakage, either of which would be harder to work against.
I probably would be able to figure this shit out if I read the LNs, but that'll likely never happen.
>posting you email
Not OP, but instead of being silly you could just bully him through email.
Would you create an email account just for bullying?
Some people are different.
maybe he posted his email so other people interested in SSY could contact him and become friends
Sounds pretty gay.
I remember hearing something in the novel about how Saki's mom teached her how to masturbate. Is that true?
This isn't a real anime. Before the homosex, there were only five people watching this on /a/. The yaoi and yuri artificially created a fanbase in the lab. If not for this, there would never be a thread on /a/.
Honestly Squealer was pretty damn fantastic. The kids? They showed even less expression than Rei Ayanami which still didn't stop them to whine and cry all the time.
I liked it even before the yuri came along. I completely ignored the yaoi and found it enjoyable.
when is UTW going to do the 2nd half of the series on blu-ray?
When they have enough space to make their encodes.
Does anyone even care anymore about this? I feel as if the fanbase here is like 4 ou 5 people, sadly.
Don't tell me they got Daiz working on it.
I'm trying to finish it right now since I dropped it at the snow back then. The directing is ass half of time. The animation budget is as disaster. The squealer scenes are probably the best thing in it.
How many episodes in?
they blew their budget on episode 4 and then 5 was a disaster.
I just finished it.
The snow part sucks for quite a bit, but it gets better once they move on to the next real plotline and the climax.
The thing is, since it's not ongoing there isn't much to discuss and everything gets explained in the course of the series.
It was among the best of 2013 if not the best, but 2013 wasn't exactly a banner year.
Make that 6. This and Jinuri where my favorite shows of whatever season/year it was.
I just finished the snow. So I'm gonna watch the second timeskip.
What do you think after that ending? Does Saki and Shun living peacefully hiding the secret until they die?
You mean, Satoru?
Ah yes I mean Satoru
