How come there are no more notable animes that take place mostly in space besides Planetes, Space Bros and Space Dandy that doesn't involve insane amounts of mechas lately?
>>
Space anime, particularly hard scifi, is not really an easy sell. There haven't been that many pure space anime period, let alone lately.
>>
All anime take place in space.

Because unless you add sci-fi to it, space is pretty fucking boring.

Hard sci-fi space anything is generally a hard sell.

Which is a damn shame, cause when it's done right hard sci-fi (without mecha) is damn awesome.

This smells like a hidden recommendation thread

I totally agree. There's a ton of stuff to work with too like the Orion Battleship project. Unfortunately for us anime seems to have trouble staying grounded in a relatively realistic setting.

Space doesn't sell, even cute girls doing cute stuff (in space) didn't help.

Start Trek and Star Wars did well because they are interesting.
Or are you telling us that the glorious nippon can't into space?
>>
>>100108776
Are you implying that those are hard sci-fi?

2014 is terrible so far.
>>
>>100108776
Star Trek and Star Wars aren't hard sci-fi with its FTL space flight, colourful lasers and magical force. They're fairy tales.

Also, mecha is better than ships.

That's a fair amount of recent shows for a niche, considering how many there are overall. I don't even understand how you can complain about something not getting enough shows when there are two currently airing that fall into that category (Space Bros and Space Dandy). If you aren't happy with just two currently airing, go watch the backlog that already exists. No, I'm not giving you recommendations, since this is obviously a thinly veiled recommendation thread anyway.

why is /a/ so goddamn illiterate?

Seriously, apart from few shows, threads about new series are almost empty, board is slow as fuck, there is shitload of terrible threads with reply count under 10 posts. What the hell? Mass sudoku during New Years?
