Hey up /a/. Popped over from /co/ to pick your brains.
Berserk is awesome. Been reading the manga, and I'll happily say that between volumes I'm far more gripped than with anything us Westerners have come up with.
So I figured I'd check out the anime, see how that was. And then had second thoughts when I heard the opening theme. It just didn't seem to fit the tone of the series as I'd read it in the god-damn slightest.
Now, I'm never going to *not* watch a series because of an opening, because that's fucking retarded. But it has raised concerns as I considered looking for the anime. Given that the opening song is poppy bollocks, how's the regular BGM do? Does that fit the series better? Does the anime even get across the tone of the Berserk manga at all?
yeah, just stick to the manga
stick with the manga if youve already started it. the show doesnt deviate too far but it only covers the first...12ish volumes? it really gets good after that point when he starts killing babies and shit, so you might as well just read the manga now since youre going to have to switch to it later anyway.
as far as the music goes, i honestly dont even remember the op let alone the BGM.
are they on elfheim yet?
The opening to this anime is one of the worst I've ever had the horror of sitting through. Please do not let it reflect badly on the show.
The incidental BGM, as I recall, is meh. But you can ignore it. Just please trust us that the show is made of pure fuckwin.
The anime basically adapts the manga frame-by-frame. It's just way way way way way shorter.
Now go watch it.
I like the anime.
Also, YOU WILL JOIN MY BAND OF THE HAWK.
Forces, at least, is awesome.
>The anime basically adapts the manga frame-by-frame
Except the very beginning. I see no naked elf boy. WHERE IS MY NAKED ELF BOY?
Anime doesn't have wyld.
Which berserk character has what it takes to reach the top of the Aggro Crag?
Don't watch it subbed. The dub is amazing.
The BGM is good. I liked the Engrish OP and ED.
But MOTHERFUCKING FORCES IS SOMETHING YOU SHOULD NEVER FORGET IN YOUR PATHETIC ANON LIFE.
There's a reason why you can skip the OP sequence, OP.
fuck you, Ultros
SWORD IN ONE HAD BITCH IN THE OTHER
the other bgm is all very good and fits the series fantastically. why dont u download it and see...
watch the anime, it's amazing and great atmosphere. the opening song is completely out of place.
BGM is produced by this man: Susumu Hirasawa.
You'd know why this is holy and divine if you were one of us.
The dub is pretty goddamn awesome
Skip the OP/ED. If any thing, get a copy of Forces and listen to that in place of the OP/ED
I'm reading the manga right now, only just recently started. They just got Griffith back and Gatts is tearing assholes open.
Ugh, I hate those. Is Forces the song that plays during the "Next Episode" segments? That song rules
Well, if the anime only covers up to volume 12, there's not much point me checking out the anime, unless it's fantastically animated, or maybe has extra bits.
Cheers /a/, you're right helpful.
Now, considering I think Berserk is the dog's bollocks, what else can you recommend of a similar tone? Doesn't have to be a fantasy series or anything though. I dunno, like, "Guts In Space"? I really don't know fuck all about recent anime, but I'm looking to start watching again now I've got a broadband connection. Older stuff I like is Orguss 02, Tank Police and anything Go Nagai, if that helps.
SAVING THE DAY
YOU GONNA GIT RAPED!
AND YOU'RE GONNA GET PROMOTED
soundtrack is AWESOME
Been there, done that, sent postcards, would rape again. *yawn*
Jojo's Bizarre Adventure is universally loved on /a/. Try that.
Berserk puts the MAN in Manga
Bitchin, been looking for that. d/ling now
English dub is pretty good, especially the outtakes. The guy who voices Griffith always bursts into song randomely
How many volumes of Berserk are there? I found a 1-29 torrent. Am I far off?
Griffith is moe.
I too liked the English dub. I thought Griffith's voice was perfect.
about 33 I think?
If you like the "chopping up monsters" part of Berserk, you might dig Claymore. If you're looking for more "realistic medieval warfare" like in the Golden Age arc, read Vinland Saga.
The guy who did Guts also did Zoro/Zolo on the 4kids dub of One Piece. I love the FUNi dub, but I miss 4kids Zolo/Zoro
I know I know, can't stand the fucking opening song. Actually the opening is just fine if you put it on mute.
Is the Berserk OST on rapidshit? Cause I don't have it, but I know most of the songs were very good.
And yeah watch the anime, no reason not to really. It's perfectly awesome, even though it leaves out a lot from the manga.
>I dunno, like, "Guts In Space"
It doesn't get into space until the second series, but Battle Angel Alita is pure rugged.
Claymore was pretty cool. I'm not sure why they stopped airing the anime at episode 21.
26 episodes but the anime deviated from the manga in the end and gave a phail ending (and effectively end the anime series). As to why they decided to end the anime no one knows. My guess is because the manga comes out just as fast as Bereserk's manga. Not nearly fast enough for an anime series.
Yes, make sure to watch the English outtakes too. Fucking hilarious.
You're a retard, Anonymous-san
I don't know what you're talking about. They canceled the release of 22-26 at the last minute, and declared that they would never air, unless they made a second season, starting at episode 22.
I liked Berserk's OP, but it was pretty silly.
DAM DAM DAM DAM
DUN DUN DUN DUN
BRRGH BURG BRRRGH
BRRGH BURGH BRRRGH
BRRGH BURG BUUUURG
They should have done what they did with FMA. Claymore would have made a fantastic 52 ep run if they had some good writers to work ahead.
They could have followed the manga and left an open airing for an eventual sequel, but for whatever reasons it was decided on as a one-off production.
It would be another 4-5 years before said sequel would be possible though, because the anime went through about 5 years worth of manga in 21 episodes.
Nothing is remotely good as far as Seinen anime is concerned, enjoy your Monster, Akagi/Kaji, and Bartender.
>>BRRGH BURGH BRRRGH
Sounds about right.
What they need to do is make an anime with similar music to this:
Ya just...don't...get it...do you?
RARed up all the Berserk tunes I could find. Two versions of Forces, one some "Godhand Mix" or something. Some nice stuff in there.
>>10010799 as far as the music goes, i honestly dont even remember the op let alone the BGM.
I loved both OP & ED.
Anime doesn't get that far in the story and if I had to choose, I'd say I prefer the manga. Still wish they'd do the whole story in anime.
