Does this get better or is it only mahjong al the time? I watched the first two episodes and I didn't understand a thing.

You're not ought to understand what Akagi is doing. Rest assured, it's intense despite that, with life-or-death gambles and all that. The important thing is to understand "Whoa! Akagi's opponent has some sort of Royal Flush equivalent, and Akagi will die if the hand gets through!" and it drives that point home very well.

But the point is that I didn't understand what ANYONE was doing because I don't know the game.

You could go through the basic rules from Wikipedia, but that shouldn't be necessary. I didn't and I enjoyed Akagi a great deal. Same goes for pretty much every person I've talked to.

Learn to play the game then. Holy shit.
>>

They are all bullshit, just like Saki
>>
You really don't have to understand shit to appreciate it, from what I remembered.

Okay man but don't be so rude. It's not often that I have to learn something to enjoy a show.
>>
so whats the difference between akagi and that other show where there is some guy who looks like akagi but with black hair.
>>
>>100101891
everyone's telling you that you don't HAVE to learn it to enjoy the show. Unless not understanding exactly everything that happens and every move they play actively annoys you. And in that case, blame your autism.

different games.
>>
>>100102052
not just that, characters are pretty much polar opposites as well, although both talented in winning gambling games.

Let me put something into perspective.

You are watching a series about a game that is not even known in almost any Western country. The entire series is about Mahjong and pretty much nothing else. This would be like someone watching a game of poker and then complaining because they didn't know anything about it.

>>100102052
Kaiji is the show you are referring to. Main difference is that Kaiji is usually gambling for an insane money however most of the time they don't play traditional gambling games. MC is the complete opposite of Akagi but they are still good at gambling.
>>
I wonder how many failed Mahjong clubs this has caused.
>>
>>100102399
Riichi Mahjong has been popular around the world dude. There are tournaments for it in just about any country. Clubs like chess clubs are gay anyway. Identifying yourself with a hobby? Jesus.
>>
Akagi isn't about mahjong anyway

Akagi is about how awesome Akagi is and how he makes everyone suck his dick.
