ITT post the first anime you ever saw.
I'll start where most people did, at 6 a.m on Adult Swim. Pic related.
You have to be at least 18 to be on this site
>I'll start where most people did, at 6 a.m on Adult Swim. Pic related.
Only young people.
In all the time Inuyasha has been rerunning, I don't think I've ever seen the ending.
I can't remember if it was Sailor Moon, Pokemon, Digimon or Dragon Ball Z. But I do remember it was on YTV.
>I'll start where most people did, at 6 a.m on Adult Swim
Yeah...No! FUCK YOU!
I started around 6-7yo. My parents watched anime and read comics, so I watched anime and read comics. My first series was Astro-boy.
I remember my dad watching a lot of action-shit and tits being less censored back then. My mom later got me into Ranma.
and it was glorious.
Inuyasha aired at midnight when I first saw it. I watched it in its entirety, although the longer the plot went nowhere the more it frustrated me. It was a different time.
We used to have a template for this kind of thing.
I had a friend whose parents were passive as fuck, he convinced them to let him go to some sort of convention, and he came back with a bunch of tapes.
dragon ball early/mid 90's on saturday mornings
That's a pretty hard core first anime. I still likes me some Fairy Dreaming.
Is there a reason to stop a kid from going to a convention? If you think that's odd, what were your parents like?
Would you happen to have a blank template?
Either this or mazinger, and I still want those lions.
pic related, first manga was ranma
DBZ it ran along side pic related.
He was ~8-9 at the time(mid-90s) and two years older than I was, my parents were pretty strict so my metrics may be off.
dragon ball early/mid 90's on saturday morning, the series was still so new to north america, that everytime they got to the point where goku finally tranforms into his ape form at Pilaf's castle they restarted the series.
Isn't it past your bedtime?
Fuck those series restarts at plot climaxes.
Sailor Moon. Mercury was also my first love.
I was 7 and didn't know that it was jap at first
I know ronin is older, but I didn't see it until it ran on toonami. Where did you see it?
This. At the age of 8 or 9. My Oniichan forced me to watch it.
Now im a huge moefag.
After Pokemon, I think Eureka Seven
>Saturdays on Adult Swim
>normally turn off TV at Boondocks (hate that show)
>was preoccupied 11-12
>Bleach is cool
>dozed off during one piece
>Soul Eater, that one where the kids are fighting over the guy in the bag
>wait, which ones are the good guys?
>I should watch more of this
>what's with the pentagrams, ninja girl?
oh god i forgot that purple thing ever existed...always creeped me out as a kid
USA network, back in the day (around 95, 96 ish) when they showed it back to back with Salior Moon and that godawful Street Fighter cartoon.
Does Sailor Moon count? What about Pokemon?
If those two don't, then Cardcaptor Sakura.
Attack on titan
No, but I can make one in the same vein really quick if you want one.
Fug. The white armor gave me so many boners.
I had totally forgotten i was into this shit as a kid. I just got rushed with all those memories. Shit hit me like a fucking truck when i saw that pic.
Yea probably pokemon or sailor moon
Sailor Venus was my first waifu. I remember how eager I was to come from school so I could watch her.
I think WGN had it before that.
Does this count? If not, then it was Samurai Pizza Cats.
They all count.
>That feeling when you collected the clow cards instead of pokemon cards.
>That feeling when nobody knew what Cardcaptor Sakura was, and if they did thought it was only for girls.
Fuck you childhood.
I think I watched dbz off USA as well. Maybe sailor moon too. It wouldn't have been until around 97-98, I guess.
>Does this count?
No. Why would it?
Rurouni Kenshin on local tv about 16 years ago.
Um... Dragon Ball I think, not Z. It was some really old dub.
My dad had a few speed racer tapes that I watched and I would watch sailor moon with my sister and mom before school. After that a friend introduced me to ranma, pokemon, and dbz.
I started with this.
Can you make a non transparent one?
Transformers (トランスフォーマー Toransufōmā?) is an entertainment franchise co-produced between the Japanese Takara Tomy and American Hasbro toy companies.
I wish that the mods would ban you for low quality posting.
Spirited Away on release. No regrets.
It was. /a/ convinced me to watch it because it wasn't moeshit
>brother is watching GI Joe
>this comes on after
>Why is everyone's eyes so big?
>Why is there a talking cat?
Didn't even know what anime was, but watched this anyway.
Yeah, but that movie was a western production. I mean, it had a lot of Japanese guys animating, but so did every other western animation at the time.
You can remember being 4? Are you perhaps 5 or in possession of some kind of super brain?
I love you anon.
This, as far as I can remember
Just go back to /co/ and stop posting here, you tumblr faggot.
Was either Ruroni Kenshin, Tenchi Muyo, or Ranma 1/2 can't remember for shit.
I can remember certain memories if they're strong enough. Like I remember being a retard and getting knocked out by a toddler on a swing. Also, I remember going to my friend's house and playing X-Men on Sega Genesis every day after school.
i always wanted to fuck sugar
My uncle set me up with lunch in his room one day, decided to show me a movie.
So I guess my first was Akira. I remember it vividly, eating lunch while being horrified at the man being shot by the police, nauseated when Tetsuo steps on glass and sad when the climax came. Couldn't stop watching.
That's some good shit.
Jesus Christ you are so fucking new
please don't be real
This image seems very, very familiar for some reason.
>Having any positive attitude toward those liberal piss pots.
Either Sailor Moon or Dragon Ball.
Probably Sailor Moon.
YTV. Also born in early 1989.
Fuck off and go back to /co/.
>falling for obvious bait
Not that anon, but the hint is that screen cap looks way better than the manga art it's adapting. Also, the artist got mad at the anime company for fixing it.
>some moefaggot and most likely weaaboo horse fucker complaining about character development
SnK is shit but please
I am glad I was not alone.
Wow. Okay. Didn't realize the /a/ stood for assholes.
So would you consider the 1980s Transformers more akin to a weaboo imitation, like Legend of Korra? Or a full on American cartoon like Rugrats?
That might've been where I actually saw it, seeing as I grew up in Chicago (WGN is a Chicago-based affliate network). I was very very young when I saw it, like 5 or 6 probably, so I might be confusing networks or it may have aired on the USA cartoon block as well.
I remember later when I watched Pokemon on WGN saturday mornings, and before that it UPN weekday mornings.
Good, now go back to your hugbox.
>not hating tumblr
Dud, I wouldn't let my kid watch SnK, I have no clue what you're talking about.
>weaboo imitation, like Legend of Korra?
You are trying to hard to define things.
Produced by a western led team: Not Anime.
Produced by a Japanese lead team: Anime.
Samurai Pizza Cats, early in the morning before school. It was also the first time I'd ever seen a Hello Kitty commercial.
But I am. And that rustles your jimmies so.
WGN played it weekday evenings. I hated WGN. They cut Sailor Moon out of some programming block that all the other affiliates had it in so they could have the fucking Bozo Show. I lived in WV and hated fucking Chicago because of this growing up.
This may interest you anon
I asked a friend to show me the most violent series they could think of
Then I stopped being a faggot and developed my own tastes
Basically this method allows someone to not provide you with retarded entry level shit
Sailor Moon, before going to Elementary School. Dragon Ball Z on Toonami after school.
I roll with the the best.
Speed Mother Fucking Racer
What were 2002, and not 2013?
>Adult Swim would even finish the series.
I can stay here if I like.
What's wrong with it
I remember this. God, that guy gives so much less of a shit about everything than I remember.
I dunno man, when I think about it. The old Robotech I would also classify as anime, but your definition would put it in as American.
Started out stronk
Probably Sailor Moon when TV wasn't Cable only and had only 7 channels to choose from. Damn I feel old imagining all the kids that will never know how amazing analog TV was.
i have a plenty of memories from when i was 4, and that was well over 20 years ago, and i've taken a number of shots to the head in that time.
>assuming everyone on /co/ is from tumblr
As a /co/ oldfag I must disagree; you know how IRC is a real thing here on /a/? Well tumblr was a kind of bizarro-IRC we blamed our problems on but never had any real connection to, then it grew into a "some people on /co/ had tumblr accounts so they must be a secret cabal bent on our destruction" thing. Its really pretty sad and thats mostly the cause of the transition from the fairly nice board I once loved, to the ignorant and stupid /co/ of today that is far closer to /v/ in terms of shitposting.
You may continue.
I'm envious. I couldn't remember anything before 10 at 20, and not that I'm a wizard most of my memories are from the last 4 years.
I dunno, probably something on Cartoon Network or a Ghibli film when I was really young.
>Whats wrong with it
>Also pic related
Don't worry, anon. I still remember /co/oper/a/tion, you used to be cool guys. /co/ will always be love in my heart.
You were born 1990-1993
How many marks did I hit?
>Whats wrong with tumblr
You got me barely. 93
Magic knight rayearth, used to come from TV when I was a kid
There are not many left who remember the old days, but with how /co/ is today I do now blame them.
Can't really remember the very first, but the various few from my earliest memories would be Doraemon, which I watched the most, an episode or two of NGE, that ninja kids show (can't remember the name, does anyone know what I'm talking about?), and Patlabor.
Get the fuck out. Just go. right now. Before I get platinum mad.
I don't get how you people hadn't seen this or astroboy before any of the shit that was on in the 90s.
The OP is glorious. Dat manly harmonizing.
Good night gents.
anyone who falls for this is a simpleton.
86 here and you missed completely.
the manga was dope too.
ah, another piece of my warped childhood
>anyone who doesn't like what i like must be less intelligent
>that ninja kids show
I got you covered. I can even guess which country you're from.
Yeah, that's the one. Also watched a lot of Shin-chan. What country am I from anon?
89. Close but no cigar
Don't remember if it was Pokemon or Sailor Moon. My first subbed and uncensored anime was Azumanga Daioh
Got me good
Somewhere in the nusantara......
Malaysia. What were the broadcasters thinking?never get to watch it when it aired, though
The day /co/ trolled the FUCK out of /a/
Mazinger Z. Used to come on TV in the US in the mid 80s renamed Tranzor Z. Next was the Getter Robo G movie which was renamed Starvengers. I still have the VHS somewhere, my dad had 2 VCRs so he copied for me. Old video store actually had a large animation section.
Yes, I'm old.
OP's post is also bait is it not.
Don't know. Probably Saint Seiya? Maybe Ronin Warriors. Could be Nadia too.
Uncles had it on VHS. I still have it, but the tape messes up exactly a second before the final battle when the get to the Red Sea.
I didn't retain any of the plot. Why did YTV even run this show? It wasn't great.
Not quite. China
No one ever talks about this
pretty darn sure it was this...
All those 80's mecha dubs were so heavily rewrote. Do you remember Macron-1? The Goshogun dub? It had another show mixed in it as well for no reason.
it came on after Bananas in Pajamas on whatever channel this shit was on before I went to school in the morning
D'oh. lel dammit all those listed >>100093818 were broadcasted on local TVs over here when I was a kid. What a coincidence.
I always read manga when I was younger and didn't watch anime, my first one was the adaptation of Clamp X, and my first manga was Pita Ten
lol i am actually an immortal vampire that's 300 years old
apparently it was UPN assuming this person was in the same region as you and got the same programming schedule
Probably this. But then that was before i knew about anime.
I don't actually. I do remember Voltron though.
i know i clicked the damn file
88-90 is the generation of 4chan before the gaiafags and all subsequent shit came over.
I imagine those shows would've been on TV in many other Asian countries at the time. Anime's reach to other countries was probably at its height in the 90s
I don't think it aired here in the US, but my local video store had it right beside those Transor-Z tapes.
Fucking crazy opening http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sxh07tT52ys
On scifi channel. During the summer they would show anime all one weekend. Before they turned it onto a weekly thing.
I'm not counting stuff i saw before i knew whwat anime was. Like Sailor Moon.
Not my first anime, but definitely my first fap to a doujin. I cannot look at it without a deep feeling of shame.
Mah nigga. The summer of 1996 and I always called it "japanimation". I wish I was 12 again...
I guess. Very few SEAfag posters I've met didn't have Patlabor and Eva as one of their firsts though
When I was 10 my little sister was born and I went to live with my Aunt for a week. We lived out were no TV existed, but she had a satellite, which I thought meant porn. I found Project-Ako: Grey Side Blue Side playing super early in the morning while looking for that porn one Saturday and it changed my fucking life.
nothing wrong with Patlabor as first. especially compared to eva
86 Master Race here
>muh old /a/
the ones who watched it at that time(when it was broadcasted on local TV) were probably too young to make sense of it anyway.
Patlabor was broadcast where you live?
yep. barely remember an episode where some cat got into Noa's/some other character's mech.Need to really rewatch it some day
specifically this episode
The only thing I remember about Patlabor was when one guy was ordering lunch for the rest of the team. He didn't even write them down on a piece of paper and just counted on his fingers.
I was so hungry listening to them listing food...
Does Bubu Chacha count?
I was about 4 at the time, I think.
First TV anime was Sailor Moon, I was like 7 or 8 or something, and didn't understand why I wanted to watch it alone and why I blushed at the transformation scenes. Heh.
I think the first anime I ever watched was Dragonball on YTV back in 1995. I find it strange that when you grow up on something you will likely end up liking it for the rest of your life. I grew up watching anime. I started watching anime when I was in elementary school. I think the anime that I remember most fondly are DBZ and Monster Rancher, which aired on YTV back in 1999, if I recall correctly.
This is probably the oldest of all my primal memories involving anime.
Best kids show OP ever. Still have it crammed in the back of my head
009 was my first, seen on Toonami
1994 bday year
I dunno, I watched a lot more cartoons than anime growing up. Pretty much everything noteworthy on cartoon network and nick from mid 90s to early 2000s, I watched it all and loved quite a lot of those show. And I fucking hate cartoons now.
Maybe that's just more of a symptom of the cartoon industry today; I cannot comprehend how anyone could stand watching the shit on /co/ these days. However, I've also sometimes gone back and re-watched some eps of an old favorite like Ed Edd n Eddy, and was amazed to find it wasn't funny at all >pic related, yet I fondly remember it really did make my sides hurt when I was a kid. It was like opening a time capsule only to find it contained nothing but a turd, at least I don't sometimes wonder if I'm missing anything on /co/ anymore; the answer is a resounding noooope.
Speed Racer and a strange movie about a sheep were probably technically my first. The first things I was especially fond of and really sought out were Sailor Moon and Pokemon. After that Toonami with Tenchi, Gundam Wing, Outlaw Star, Dragon Ball, and Bebop.
Ami was the first and only 2D girl to do things to my heart and body, and I'll probably never understand why.
