So I got the new card from Chase because of the whole Target hoopla but I ordered something of AmiAmi yesterday and won't get a payment request until they open. If I activate the card, cancelling the old one, will that cause any issues? I mean, the checking account number and all is still the same.

I have pre-ordered them all on AmiAmi. I was a little late though so I had to buy Volume 1 from the dreaded eBay but it was from Japan and it seems all legit. £52 including postage but no doubt I'm going to get slapped with import fees.

All of my volumes are now listed as "Pre-Order" except for volume 2, I ordered it about 2 weeks ago and it still says "New Order". I thought that it might just be down to the fact that they'll be busy with the orders placed over Christmas but I've ordered a few other things after that and they have been processed and shipped off. Volume 2 is now listed as "Sold Out" when I search on the site. Should I message them and ask them what's going on? I don't mind buying Volume 2 on eBay like I did with the first one but I don't want to buy it and then get an email from AmiAmi telling me they've processed the order and want payment.

Yes and no, it was printed within the boundaries of the original model, meaning sanding down will fuck it up, you would need to first dissect it in multiple parts, then add epoxy putty then sand it down. and at that stage you end up with something barely worse than your average resin GK.

And that's if you pick up the right materials to print and putty to fill, if not it will just crumble instead of getting smooth while you sand it.

Actually you can't, not in that print. When you rapid prototype a model the shorter end of each layer should be exactly at the boundary of the original model so you can actually remove material, if you try to sand that, with any medium that is not additive the total volume of the body will be less than the original model's, meaning you will get a physically thinned down result.

Wrong, most manufacturers that deal with castoffable figures mold with colored resin, and leave the inner side unpainted, that way paint WILL NOT transfer to the body.

Native, and orchid seed do that, even Freeing.

That aside, I checked just now out of curiosity and don't see anything wrong with a lot of their figures other than the prices of the petits and a few fuck ups from years ago (they seem to fuck up more often if it's anything railgun related), they also released only two scales last year and this one looks cute in my opinion.

That's literally why I would have done. I was looking for a good picture, but >>100121725 will do. Take a look at the bluenette in the foreground. That's how you hide rods and pegs. Not a lazy plastic wedge that's an eyesore. They should spend some time actually designing the figure's base instead of slapping her onto a wedge and calling it a day. It's not the type of plastic they use, it's how they chose to mold and display it.

Take Madoka here, who's suspended on a cute magical burst of wind. That's how you put a character into the air. That's how you thoughtfully design a dynamic figure. But if you want to defend lazy designs, then go right ahead.

The petanko figures are a laughingstock if you compare them with Nendoroids. Exact same scale and pretty much the same price (think of Petanko as a non-poseable Nendoroid with absolutely no accessories) and yet Petankos pale far in comparison in quality. Worse faces, questionable paint job, the hands usually can't both touch the ground evenly, overall quality is comparable to that of a prize figure, not a Nendoroid.

I think of them as spending money I have somewhere else, when I use my CC I make sure I have the cash in my account to pay for it in that exact moment.
>>
>>100127884
But you do have the money, you just settle into paying the bill at a later date, it can also get you more time to pay the bill, and you know, time is money.

Buyfagging helps a lot with credit rating if you ever go out to finance your car or whatever that relies on credit score
>>

>"Hello, anon, did you know that you qualify or this credit card. No, seriously, just sign right here and we will give it to you."
Every fucking time I enter, it's ridiculous. Anyway, we shouldn't get into the topic of credit vs. debit. We always seem to get into a shitstorm when that happens. Let's go back to talk about the only important plastic: figures.

>>100128140
identity theft is one reason, if someone steals your debit you're fucked for a while to get your money back, and it usually has a larger limit. If your CC gets stolen you report it as stolen and any purchases are not your responsibility, and CC usually have a smaller limit.
>>
>>100127884
Credit cards also act as an additional wall protecting your money. If you notice fraudulent activity, you notify your CC company, they freeze the card and will work on getting the money back, because up to that point, it's their money, not yours.

Have the same thing happen with your debit card and you're in for a world of hurt.

Just food for thought.
>>
>>100128140
As other anons have said, to build credit so that your bank can see that you're a responsible individual and be willing to open bigger/higher lines of credit to you. One day you will have to make a big and necessary purchase, like a car or a house, that will rely on it since most of us will never become doctors or billionaires who can pay off hefty purchases in cash.
>>
>>100128280
>>100128320

>>
>>100128140
CCs give you more safety locks, and often rewards for using your credit. I get back 10% of my purchases in a debit card, so it's like having an extra discount when buying.

Plus, credit build
>>
>>100128280
>if someone steals your debit you're fucked for a while to get your money back

well there's plenty of it in the opposite direction, with people being fucked over by their banks and getting locked out of their money. CC have never had that problem. Besides, there's really no reason to NOT get a CC. there's no down side to owning one even if you never use it.
>>
>>100128348

Most doujinshi (10-20 pages) fit in an envelope and easily qualify for envelope shipping rate, which is 60 yen starting and going up to about 240 yen. 700-1000yen shipping service is asking for Yamato, Hakoboon, flat rate Letter Packs, and other incredibly tracked and insured methods that are far too excessive for a doujin.
>>
>>100129687

> Amazon uses pretty minimal packaging for BDs, so it seems like there would be a good chance of them being damaged in transit

Yep, that's why I stopped using them. Plus I think they got rid of that feature where you could preorder and get like 200yen shipping.
>>
>>100129491
No they don't. Most doujinshi sellers on YAJ use Kuroneko mail, and that's around 80 yen for a 30 page doujinshi. You can fit around 3 standard size doujinshi in a kuroneko envelope/box, and that would cost around 180 yen.
Tora offers Kuroneko too.

>>100129540
I don't see any reason to use SMJ, ever. You can easily see how expensive they are compared to other proxies.
>>
>>100129534
All the less competition for me.

Kidding aside, I actually don't understand why people use Suruga-ya for doujinshi. It's not a great site. That said, Mandarake is accessible for most folks while the Global Rakuten site is so atrocious in English that fewer people are willing to fight through that. Not to mention that some idiot got BiJ blacklisted from Suruga-ya.

Forwarding is a service that some people find as a hassle or extra hoop to jump through as well.
>>
>>100129886
The one that was 1080 is pretty thick (about 150+ pages) so that might explain it. The other doujin I had shipped didn't say anything for internal shipping, so maybe I paid for both of them at the same time. It's weird, though: you think they'd still list the two prices in separate columns.
>>

Never used SMJ, but now I am suspicious that they ask for the most expensive and stupidly insured/tracked shipping method from the seller possible and just pass the cost onto the customer so that they can collect a bigger fee in the end.

The checkout process on Y!AJ isn't automated at all, so SMJ can easily ask for different shipping methods in the Transaction Navigation (Torihik Navi) and get it, and all those communications are private.
>>
>>100129921
>I don't see any reason to use SMJ, ever.
I was young(er) and stupid(er), and it was recommended to me by someone I trusted since they'd been satisfied with them. Obviously I know that they're pretty expensive now. I haven't used a proxy in a long while, but if I did get back into buying doujins I wouldn't go with them.

I paid 780Y for two precure prize figures via Small packet.

Why is Suruga-ya not a good site for doujinshi? They have many hard to find doujinshi for a fairly low price. There are downsides to Suruga-ya, such as no item condition and how they put a fucking sticker on the cover, but you can easily peel it off without leaving behind a residue. I use Suruga-ya a lot for my old Touhou doujinshi, so it would be nice to hear some arguments about it.

Oh right, the BiJ alternative for forwarding:

Starting at flat rate of 500 yen, great for Suruga-ya since you can easily pay with card or PayPal and domestic shipping is free from 1800 yen, insanely easy to break.
>>
>>100130743

>>
>>100130743
Their deals aren't that great. That's pretty much it.
And once you factor in shipping & etc., it seems that the money isn't worth it compared to just download the doujins for free.
>>
>>100131418
Perhaps I don't find it an issue since I buy in bulk. The proxy service isn't too expensive at all, and shipping is just shipping. YAJ would be more expensive if I have to pay separate shipping for every single doujinshi.

>>100131535
Do you mean deals as in their sales, or deals as in their general prices? The prices for my doujinshi are pretty cheap. Shipping is not different when it comes to Suruga-ya or any other website.
>download the doujins for free
Some people prefer physical copies, and people are willing to pay an amount for them. That's a poor argument.

And to both of the responses, I am using Suruga-ya's main site. Not their Rakuten. Their Rakuten site is horrible since it's forced EMS, and that sucks for doujinshi. There is also a markup on every doujinshi there, so the extra amount ends up being ridiculous if you buy a bulk of doujinshi.

I know that. The point I'm making is that, depending from person to person, there is a price point and hoop-jumping at which blowing so much on a physical copy is no longer worth it.

As a general rule of thumb, if the flat/small chested girl in question has not reached puberty yet ;she's a loli. If she has; she isn't. Again, this is just a general rule of thumb as there are exceptions where artists draw 15 year olds as 10 year olds. Loli is more of an appearance thing (short + cute + child appearance = loli, if the character in question fails even one of these conditions she is not a loli).
