good dubbed anime?
most anime for casuals
watch and decide for yourself.
boku no pico
heard it was goof never actually watched it
space dandy.......yeah i said it
Howl's moving castle
The dub has better jokes. It also has that Big O thing going on where the robot character's English voice was better done and more robot-y than in the original.
Nah dude. It was decent, Christian Bale was miscast. Kimutaku was such a perfect choice for that role; Alan Cumming or someone similarly dandyish would have been much better for the dub.
The other Ghibli dubs have all been excellent, though, Kiki in particular.
nigger you best be joking
what's so bad on the laptop that she punches the wall?
my personal favorite yu yu hakusho
Spice and Wolf ....the russian one
>requesting outside of /r/
The sub wasn't that great to begin with, honorifics had no place being in the show.
The accents in the dub are pretty good too
Ha ha what is this the official dub?
I think they decided to throw out the script and just wing it.
So it's SPC all over again.
I need to check this out apparently.
>The other Ghibli dubs have all been excellent, though, Kiki in particular.
Please, no. Rest in Peace Phil Hartman, but you were awful in your role.
I'm willing to debate this.
>Spice and Wolf ....the russian one
Korbo with an Russian accent? Your ideas intrigue me and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter.
Beck Mongolian Chop Squad is probably one of the few anime I prefer dubbed.
I'm willing to debate this
You're Under Arrest
This is probably a rec thread but since it's well known, FLCL has a great dub
all of it except that which you have to stop watching before the end of the first episode due to cringe overload.
Just preview with exiled-destiny on rizon before being a dumb buyfag in the anime section of eb games you faggot
>I want a thread full of shit posting.
Aya Hirano is a slut, but she is an excellent va.
I know this is supposed to be a good dub thread but jesus christ has anyone else here watched the Gintama movie dub? I was curious to see how much they could fuck it up and god it was painful. After that I had to watch the original to bleach my ears and forget.
why does she have a body pillow of her sister?
That cat's voice makes me angry.
Wait, boku no pico got dubbed?
>motorcycle girl episode
You beat me to it. I was pleasantly surprised by the voice acting.
>>>/some other board/
You're giving up some precious engrish though.
PSG was okay but they fucked the ''you're a fatty'' part by half a milisecond and broke the whole joke.
I'll never forgive them for that.
But garter's voice, and panty's slut voice, and stockings perfect annoying emo kid voice.
What about them!?
Too bad it's a shit movie.
I expect more weeaboos in this thread.
dubs are for ilitrate people who can't read subs / learn japanese
real anime master race is japanese no subs
god tier is japanese english subs
shit tier 12 year old moran is dubs
All of them
Personally I think the following are all better dubbed:
Romeo x Juliet
>>100085732 This is the kind of person you ally yourselves with.
People who don't listen to both and decide for themselves are pretentious elitists.
There aren't any good dubbed anime. No matter what you watch, you aren't watching the original version. Call me a weeaboo or whatever but if I am watching a show made in an English Speaking country I watch that in English, if it's from France or Germany I'd watch it in French/German and if it is a Japanese cartoon I watch it in Japanese. That's how the show was originally made and intended to be enjoyed and if you can't enjoy it like that then this isn't the right media for you.
>forgetting your sage
Never change newshits
or how about you fuck off?
>Not listneing to hilarious dubs for the fun of it.
oh my god you cannot be this stupid
bludgeoning angel dokuro-chan, no joke
But that's the beauty of the world we live in. As long as there is a market for dubbing services, then it does have a place in the media. Dubs are available for those that want them and I'm fine with that. Heck, sometimes the people that do the dubs actually do a great job of making the show interesting, and so I don't think that it's necessarily a bad thing for anime in general. However, if we want to talk about how it affects the market and how dubbing companies don't give enough money back to the original creators, that's another discussion.
I tried watching the dub and didn't care for it, unfortunately. I loved the series itself, though.
The subs themselves are an alteration of the original, the show wasn't originally made with subs and isn't intended to be watched with subs. If you can't understand the language then you aren't going to be able to enjoy it the way it's intended to be enjoyed either way, whether you watch it subbed or dubbed. I understand not watching live action shows dubbed, but animation? Just boils down to preference.
/a/ told her her waifu a shit.
Yui's her waifu

It's a mixed bag. On one hand it provides more variety - that could never hurt. On the other the variety it provides is shit, and the sort newfags actively latch onto. I'd say overall the costs outweigh the benefits.
How? He has a good point. As a dubfag, you should be defending your casual-ass, minority view, not being condescending to people with better taste than you.
Do you think I'm joking?
>The subs themselves are an alteration of the original, the show wasn't originally made with subs and isn't intended to be watched with subs. That's like saying "The edited versions of Star Wars aren't faithful to the original. So that means I can replace the soundtrack with the Benny Hill theme and it would be as authentic as the new version." No, there are varying degrees of modification, and not all changes weigh the same.
Localization is always going to detract from an experience. However, why localize translation, acting, inflection, and pacing when you can choose to localize only the translation and leave the rest alone? Subs are ultimately the lesser of two evils, but compared to dubs it's minuscule.
Though the best choice is still just to learn moon.
What a good argument you have there.
>The amount of pretension in this post.
>Hates an old demotivational
Jesus christ kill yourself.
subs are best
You still have more of the original if you watch subs.
Subs dont localize as much as the dub and you still have the original audio.
So in the end, it just boils down to whether or not you care about the show and quality as a whole.
Yeah, I agree that a lot of dubs turn out awful, but then there are a few series where the voice actors just sound good in their roles, like Chobits. Of course, it really is a matter of preference, but I think that some voice actors can really enhance localized versions if they do a good job, even if it's so bad it's good.
Oh, it was perfect but they fucked the timing.
The one great joke in the whole thing and they fuck it up.
>Hates an old demotivational
Has nothing to do with it. No one uses them nowadays, besides ledittors. Is "le epik troleface" and "LOL" allowed now just because people used to do them?
What, dubs aren't casual now? Get your head out your ass.
Somehow I had no idea this was dubbed.
I thought it would be shit but was actually pretty decent. Might have rewatch the whole anime.
To >>>/v/ with you!
>Subs dont localize as much as the dub
But that's wrong you. Subs and dubs use the same script most often
Subs because you miss out on delicious hanakana voice
>Yeah, I agree that a lot of dubs turn out awful, but then there are a few series where the voice actors just sound good in their roles, like Chobits. Dubs are only better in one of 2 situations.
1. The original actors are such shit that even second rate western hacks are better - almost never happens.
2. They decide that the anime is shit from the getgo, and reinvent it entirely, a la Ghost Stories. That's always a good time. See, they're not LOCALIZING anything. They're not imitating anyone's acting, creating an inferior product. They're letting their own creativity run free, and that's what makes a good show.
>Redirecting people to /v/
Look, a dubfag casual is trying to act condescending to others. Isn't that cute?
So much "holier then thou" in this shitty excuse for a troll thread.
>So much "holier then thou" in this shitty excuse for a troll thread.
Jeez, what a surprise?
/a/, what the fuck are you doing?
my main problem with watching with Subs is that they're usually poorly done and more often than not translated fucking wrong. dubs are good in some very rare instances, i'd say FLCL is one i'd pick as being one of the best dubs, maybe Trigun.
most of the time though I just watch raws cuz incorrect translations piss me off so god damn much
It might not be exactly what you're saying, but when the voice actors get comfortable with their role, that's what makes a good performance. It's easy to tell when they can, like, as you said, Ghost Stories. Then again, that's a great dub for many other reasons, but the voices really fit their characters.
Because, I'm tired of just defending dubs, something that really bothers me is when the voice actors for dubs sound completely different the original japanese, like Kenshin in Rurouni Kenshin who has a female voice actor in the original, but then his english voice actor has a really deep male voice. It just really doesn't fit, and that is exactly what I dislike about dubs.
Only good dubs are mine.
Come to expect this is now anon.
For as long as Space Dandy is on tv people from /co/ and /v/ will come here every saturday and shit all over the place
I want Milly's taco, if you know what I mean
The problem with dubs is that they get almost no direction from the original creators. If you've ever been in acting, known an actor, or worked with any sort of performance whatsoever, you know how fucking important direction is to getting a role down. Dubs, having little input, relies on a actor's interpretation of another actor, with no direction and oh, the original being in a fucking foreign language the dub actor doesn't know. So there's that.
It boggles my mind, though, how people can really stand dubs. At best, they're about as good as the original, almost never better. So why would you watch a product that's just "almost as good" as the original? Why not just watch the original and be done with it? Can these retards not read?
But if you watched the dub first you would be used to the deep male voice and then the jap one would sound weird to you. Which ever you saw first would become the "normal" one and any others would be a "change from the original."
That's a meaningless point
Kyon's sarcasm is 1000 time beter in the dub
>Wanting Crispin "Literally One Voice" Freeman over Tomozaku "Literally Sugita" Sugita
Gr8 b8 m8 I r8 it an 8
That's a lot of eigh......oooooohhh I get it. I aint laughing, but I get it
In the words of Kinomod, lurk moar faggot
Osaka's dub voice is pretty entertaining for about a minute or so, but the rest are pretty much all bad.
You are not very kawaii you'reself, m80.
I prefer the other American Osaka
Oh man. The Osaka Hedberg crossover is probably the only instance where I can tolerate other people using his jokes.
DON'T FORGET YOUR SAGE
The people here are so new that they probably dont even know how to sage.
I'm sure this is a riveting thread full of constructive debate, but I'm just going to ignore the fuck out of it and post my personal (incomplete) list of quality anime dubs.
The Big O
Ghost in the Shell
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex
Ouran High School Host Club
Sword of the Stranger
Rebuild of Evangelion
Studio Ghibli films
Mobile Suit Gundam 0080
Mobile Fighter G Gundam
Tiger & Bunny
0/10 Quality post
I want more people to know that there are more good dubs out there than just Bebop and GITS. Dubs have been shit on by /a/ for far too long.
I'm not spoonfeeding, I have an agenda of my own.
>I want to decrease board quality by encouraging dubfags
How can that be possible if the dub comes out month or years after the sub? Of course you shouldnt watch the subs from the company who made the dub.
You really arent from here.
>all those shitty dubs
?implying this or any board has actual quality
The sub is better
>125 replies and 20 images omitted
Jesus, I thought we are better than this.
>stop spoonfeeding, you'll ruin /a/!
But anons, I already hate /a/. This place has nowhere to go but up. Maybe if you old crotchety bastards got chased out by new blood, things would improve around here.
Why am I watching this?
How do you know OP was asking to be spoonfed and not just looking to have a discussion about good dubs? The only shitposts in this thread are the ones crying about not liking this thread. If you don't like it, great. Who fucking cares? If it's breaking a rule, then fucking report it and move on with your life. It's really that easy.
Because Mitch Hedberg was taken from us too soon
Mitch is kill? When?
>This place has nowhere to go but up
This could be a contender for stupidest post of 2014.
Golden Boy had a great dub. It was actually better than the original audio.
Dude, years ago. Like 2008 or some shit.
>i hate /a/.
And yet you are still here, you autistic idiot.
If you want a community that spoonfeeds and welcomes every retard, go to Leddit.
Because he wouldnt open the thread like he did if he really wants to discuss dubs.
Everyone knows you cant discuss dubs on /a/, anyway.
I had no idea. Wh-who else?
There are dubs discussions practically every day. It's just a matter of luck hoping the retards don't show up. The same is true of Naruto discussion and pretty much anything else "/a/ doesn't like." It's mostly just idiots trying too hard to fit in.
>If you want a community that spoonfeeds and welcomes every retard, go to Leddit.
I'd rather be a subversive element here. It's more fun.
>calling it spoonfeeding
Do u even word of mouth? Does /a/ even word of mouth?
No. If anyone on /a/ suggests anything that they like to others, it's spoonfeeding.
It's not surprising that any threads that aren't Big 3 or the moeshit du jour 404 immediatley.
>using "moeshit" seriously
Reminder that we now have worse moderation than /sp/
>Complaining about 4chan (its policies, moderation, etc.)....
What does that matter if no one enforces the rules?
Well, i sure hope those retards show up in every dub thread. Those threads are shit anyway.
That's your opinion. You're welcome to report threads you think are breaking rules. No one is welcome to shitpost in threads they don't like.
>No one is welcome to shitpost in threads they don't like.
That happens on /a/ every day. /a/ has the most mini-modding of any board on 4chan.
I didn't say it doesn't happen; I said no one is welcome to do it. Just because it happens all the time doesn't mean that it isn't also against the rules.
Because our moderation is shit so we have to try to do it ourselves even if we're awful at it
I'm with you, dude. I just keep my head down and try to talk about shit I like as best I can.
God knows /a/ doesn't make it easy though, with shitlords like >>100093537 around.
Anything before 2006.
Do you disagree? I don't think I ever see shitposting deleted anymore, ever
Me neither. It's probably the same as on /v/, where there's just too much going on for the janitors and mods to do anything about it, so they just let the mice play.
This is incredibly retarded
Nice argument. Again showing that these threads can be nothing more than listing threads, as dubfags are incapable of discussion.
That stupid Jewish little fuck needs to make me a janitor, I would at least fucking try
Good dubs - don't exist.
I'm not a dubfag although every once in a while i like to watch dubbed anime.
But saying "Japanese version is automatically better because it was the first/original version out and is the intended dialogue" is retarded. Many dubs make anime far more enjoyable wether it be the setting or context (Baccano!) or even just incredibly good performances (Cowboy Bebop, Maybe even Hellsing). It IS possible that what the writers / directors intended to be the best version is in fact not the best version. I'm not saying all dubs are good / superior to their japanese counterparts, i'm just saying that believing that the japanese version is automatically better because it was the first version is stupid and ignorant.
There's your fucking argument there
>i'm just saying that believing that the japanese version is automatically better because it was the first version is stupid and ignorant.
So do you also watch dubs for live-action then? Fandubs?
The original is already a finished product, which then afterwards has a completely alien element added to it, by someone with no relation to the original production. If it was a complete adaptation of the original material it would be something entirely different of course.
>But saying "Japanese version is automatically better because it was the first/original version out and is the intended dialogue" is retarded.
Sure, if you don't think that original intent matters in any way. You have to wonder why people protest 4kids' alterations to animation and story, when it's apparently perfectly okay to do the same to the script/dialogue
This is why Sailor Moon has my favourite dub, it stomps all over the original, but it does so in such a bloody entertaining way that I can't help but love it and what it manages to pull off.
>Ctrl + F
This was a absolutely amazing dub.
I probably wouldn't have laughed at this if it were in Japanese
>calling people illiterate
>can't fucking spell
The only voices in the dub that I liked were Kobato and Rika
Trigun's dub is awful.
>I'm not retarded, I was only trolling
what the fuck is this shit
>I'm not saying all dubs are good / superior to their japanese counterparts, i'm just saying that believing that the japanese version is automatically better because it was the first version is stupid and ignorant.
This, so much. Just because the JP voices were the "original intent" doesn't mean they're better. Sometimes a dub performance absolutely creams the original. Hell, sometimes the original voices suck. The Japanese aren't perfect. They have shitty voice actors too.
>The Japanese aren't perfect.
Has nothing to do with the discussion and no one has implied that. Lots of countries have media that gets dubbed, not just Japan. Going by your logic you should watch shows dubbed in every possible language (including fandubs of course) because you think removing and replacing parts of a show is no problem. Why are you even watching it in the first place, if you don't care about what they wanted to bring across?
