/a/, do you only like anime and manga or do you appreciate Japan as a whole?
Japan is shit tier.
>appreciate Japan as a whole
What's there to appreciate?
They make good games too but I don't give a fuck about the country itself.
The food is nice, and the scenery is nice. Nice literature too.
Their experimental music scene is second to none.
Japan's culture is 2beta4me.
Japan has a really pretty culture and mountain landscapes, but I wouldn't want to live there. I only really care for it in a tourist-y aesthetic way.
Japan is shit, and has shit taste.
Japan's weather is too hot. Only visit and only during winter.
Japan's society is one of the worst in the world. They are working animals.
I like shintoism, though. Not something to believe in, but interesting nonetheless.
Their culture has some cool stuff but also things that are bad.
Like any culture really.
This, only they are rally extreme about some stuff and that's why it either seems as heaven or hell to people who don't live there.
Games, anime, food, and music: fuck yeah
Actual culture/history: ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
What's wrong with their history?
Just not interesting enough for me to actually care about it like I do anime and other shit
I like their battleships.
Anime, manga, VN and LN, and their games. That's all.
It's a neat country all around.
>cool history mostly composed of war war war, fuckin' ninjas and samurai, political intrigue and such, this extends to fascinating recent history with the imperial push and rise and fall in WWII, and their complete about-face on that after the war
>technological / economic powerhouse
>weird food, some of it in fact quite awesome too
>culture echoes what I wish ours was a little more like ... very polite, secular, values science and technology as a default trait, very low on violent crime from peoples' common respect for each other
>quirky people overall.. unafraid to try bold ideas like vending machines that can vend almost anything, cat cafes, obviously anime/manga culture etc.
It's hard not to like it at least a little even without the anime stuff, unless you're a racist piece of shit or a still-butthurt chinese/korean.
>They make good games
They made good games.
>Games, anime, food, and music: fuck yeah
>Actual culture/history: ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Their games, food and music is terrible.
Their culture/history is actually pretty fascinating.
You mean they stopped localizing their games for you baka gaijin?
>like it at least a little
You could say this about practically anywhere. No one said that the indifference didn't apply to everywhere.
I find their historical architecture and attire fascinating. However, other than anime, manga, music, and scenery modern Japan is meh.
>being this weeb
I mean they stopped making good games after the N64 died.
Final Fantasy a shit
I used to live in Japan. it's not as cool in 3D
I like a few of other aspects of Japan but hate most of it.
I like the cars, along with animu and mango. Hi from /o/.
Do you like 2hu painted on cars? Hi from jaypee
I dunno, there are a lot of countries out there that just really don't have much going for them. Japan is certainly a much more interesting place than say Tajikistan, or Gabon etc. Is it more interesting than say France, Germany or Italy? I don't know, I'd put it on a similar level to them, but it's definitely in that caliber imo.
I like me some 2hu on cars. Itasha a gud.
I'll be nicer to Japanese when they all stop being ignorant racists. But, looks like that day will never come.
Italy is not interesting at all.
Doens't deserve to be in the category with France and Germany.
>Culture that respects elders
>Entertainment industry is still a thing
>Work until you die then work some more
>Can't television correctly
>Arbitrary censorship laws
>Beds that aren't beds
>Everything is expensive
>Everybody is poor
The former. I don't really care all that much for Japan in general, I just have so little to do where I live that I need all the hobbies I can get.
Shino is olev though.
>>Arbitrary censorship laws
Does any country not have those?
As far as I know, we have none.
None because of violence or obscenity, at least.
What country do you own?
They have some nice stuff here (scenery, less thieves, some good looking schoolgirls), but they're ignorant as fuck. Or more like completely oblivious to the world.
>White man = Murrican
>European languages are basically the same.
>Europe must be cold, huh?
>You can't speak japanese. So I'm gonna replace some easy words in my otherwise complicated sentence with bastardized english words, that even english speakers wouldn't recognize.
>Also, I'm gonna use dollars instead of yen. Because you're white, you must know dollars better than the local currency you've been using for the past 8 months.
>White people never take their shoes off in the house.
>White people coming to japan are always really surprised to see people sleeping on the train.
>There's no racism here, that's a lie being spread by those fucking thieving lying dog-eater korean bastards.
Some guy also wanted to give me a pronounciation guide to portugese, even though when I said hora, he confused it with olá.
Some shitty European country that actually denies basic freedoms?
Maybe you should pronounce grorirusu Nihongo properly.
>There's no racism here, that's a lie being spread by those fucking thieving lying dog-eater korean bastards
I never visited Japan, my impression is that they dislike the Chinese more.
>Can't television correctly
>Or more like completely oblivious to the world.
remember that their immigration/tourism rate is hilariously low compared to their total population which means people are racist by sheer ignorance rather than actual hate
The second, I always liked Japan and other asian cultures since I was a child, surely anime, manga, tokusatsus and videogames help to increase my interest (especially in Japan) but Japan as a whole is a very interesting and fun country to live in even with all the problems.
I'm a Brazilian Dutch national and I'm currently living in Okayama, Japan surely have it's problems but it's nothing too extreme that other countries also doesn't have (except if you live in countries like Somalia). You just need to be sane enough to know that Japan is not like an anime or how the media generally portrays it.
Chinese here, can confirm Japan is more pleb than the plebs I hire to clean my (coin operated)squat toilets.
The history is interesting but I really wouldn't want to live there. So pretty much the anime and manga
It's a good place to visit on a trip. Wouldn't want to live there though.
Japanese are not really racist, they're just too closed in their own cultures. Surely there are some cases of racism here and there, I was once denied an apartment that I wanted to rent here because the landlord didn't rent to foreigners because ''they don't know the way japanese people do things'' even though I speak japanese.
But outside that (and one other that a drunk guy on the middle of the night scream at me ''stupid american'') I've never received anything but affection and good treatment by the japanese, I know brazilians, americans, chinese here who said the same thing.
The thing is, foreigners are really rare here, less than 2% of their population is a foreigner (or have foreign descent) and most of the foreigners are chinese, koreans and filipinos (that means other asians), we're such small as a community here that they don't see us as a threat (unlike in the US or Europe for example).
Japan hates me because I'm Chinese, so I only care about their anime and manga.
Never forget, everything is tatemae, tatemae is everything.
>I'm a Brazilian Dutch
Funny thing is, I actually do. (And I've been told that by Japanese, Koreans who speak much better than me, and fellow Europeans as well)
Exactly, I feel more sorry for them than angered.
It's a country full of repressed desires. I don't understand how anyone that values freedom or is ideologically a (classical sense) liberal could wish to live there.
Fala português? What are you doing in Japan?
Sim cara, sou de Alagoas e minha mãe e de São Paulo.
I'm studying at university here and occasionally working.
Someone from Alagoas with a Dutch passport and living in Japan. Wow. Now that's rare.
At least the scenery is beautiful
I do, as a matter of fact, appreciate Japan. They do most, if not all, that I fap to and that is one of the things that keeps me alive.
I also like their culture and their xenophobic behavior.
Not really, there are many dutch descendents in Maceió. And I occasionally find brazilian nikkei working in factories here.
The first, definitely.
They do have some nice music, though.
They still need to apologise for occupying Korea and forcing them to adopt Japanese society culture.
