Who is the greatest wizard in all of anime?
Clow Reed from Card Captor Sakura and Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles.
Hayate Yagami and Precia Testarossa (before she went insane), the only 2 SS rank mages in Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha.
Lina Inverse is the only true answer
He controls the fuckin Demonbane, mang.
>There is a Demonbane that isn't controlled by Daijuji Kurou or Al Azif
>There is a Demonbane that is controlled by Gandalf
>There is a Demonbane that is Gandalf
Ergo, Demonbane is the greatest wizard.
I dunno about greatest but Ryner Lute is a legendary wizard.

You really think anyone around here remembers this piece of 80's greatness? Or any 80's series in general?

>Lina Inverse is the only true answer
She was a sorceress. Along with 99% of other magic users in anime. Actually, the only wizards in anime I can think of are from Nasuverse, Aozaki Touko particularly. They actually had to prepare their spells in advance. I'm not from /tg/.
He's a fucking Enchanter!
>has a daughter
Why did nobody mention him?
For some reason, magic in anime always turns out rather crappy. Not that it's much better in western settings, but in anime you have so many people who can shoot fireballs, kamehamehas, katanah vacuums or whatever at people, that the wizards kinda become indistinguishable from the rest of the people with super powers with just another explanation given that is behind whatever shiny things they shoot at people. Martial artists, espers, magical girls, wizards, sorcerers, it all ends up kinda same-ish.
Also, Japan always seems to overdo it with the super powers. The shows are so short that they can't afford a real build up and progression any more, everything needs to be fast and flashy, even low- to mid-level enemies are whipping fireballs out of their ass left and right, ... - it just feels kind of cheap. Like in modern BioWare RPGs where they make the player character kick ass from the start to not bother casuals with the low level gameplay, completely forgetting that part of the enjoyable part of RPGs is the level progression and the sweet moment where the player realises that he isn't kicked around any more but that he can kick ass himself.
DS is metal as fuck
