What makes a harem not-shit, /a/?
Nothing. They're all shit, realistic and inconclusive.
I think you missed an "un" there, anon.
Harems are like reality shows: they're shit by definition.
ANN pls leave.
-Monogatari isn't an harem. It's more like Golden Boy: good hearted guy helps girls with their problems.
Hayate no Gotoku!
Seitokai no Ichizon
Seto no Hanayome
Sora no Otoshimono
No, it is and it's a damn good one.
MC, and it helps if the girls are non-shit too.
That show isn't an harem either.
a. It's not focused in the girls wanting MC's dick
b. The only one who wants Tsuda's dick is the judo girl.
>The only one who wants Tsuda's dick is the judo girl.
You should actually watch the show before making this call.
Harem doesn't require multiple girls wanting MC's dick. Interest and affection that the audience can imagine a possible route is enough for harem. And you clearly forgot Suzu and Pres..
The imouto and Aria only tease him.
Shino sees him as a close friend and a confident.
Suzu sees him as a friend (she's still a child, unable to understand things like physical love)
The teacher wants to fuck anything with a cock.
The other girls aren't interested on him.
Shino wants him
Suzu wants him
The other school president dates him
A girl who can't talk to boys can only talk to him?
Christ. You must be a femanon if you seriously see it the way you do.
>(she's still a child, unable to understand things like physical love)
>she's still a child
By either being a parody, aware of the cliches and character archetypes it uses but doesn't rely too heavily on them, or simply being different.
No. I just don't like to use shipping goggles.
Using a blindfold instead is the dumbest thing you could possibly do
Maybe I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you didn't watch the OVAs
a nice boat
Just stop. You're embarrassing yourself.
The only way harems work if they focus on enjoyable harem antics, ecchi, etc. - as soon as they try to focus on romance they become incredibly shitty and melodramatic. Romance can only ever be hinted at.
The only way to do harem and romance right is to use an omnibus format.
3+ girls romantically like him and are relevant to the story. It's a harem. Just because there are hundreds of bad harems where all girls just fawn over MC's dick doesn't make this not a harem.
You must be retarded. Shino obviously wants his dick and Suzu too. The signs are so fucking obvious. Blushing around him, getting embarrassed, and so on.
Even if so, it's all good while it doesn't become the main focus.
One could say it's part aside from being a comedy. Even having harem elements that plays the tropes and cliches associated equals harem.
It depends on how you mean that. SYD has little to offer besides the cuteness of the girls. They have always been the only strong point of the show. Humour-wise it has been rather unfunny and if it weren't for their girls' charm, the show wouldn't work, e.g. if you replaced them with male characters.
However, the show not focussing prominently on romance being a good thing I agree about. Serious romance only ruins the mood since it leads to conflict.

>a good harem isn't a harem
