I just watched both gun and diebuster and I have to say my mind is blown away. These have got to be the best OVA's in existence. Both have their flaws and strongpoints, but each is excelent in delivery of awesomeness.
What does /a/ thik of the Gunbuster ovas??
Gunbuster was utter shit.
Diebuster was OH GOD WHAT JUST HAPPENED, THAT WAS AWESOME
AWESOME, BEST THING EVER, ETC.
In before Gainax circle jerk.
i hated gunbuster with a passion
diebuster past episode 3 was good
Postin' in an Aim for the Top circlejerk thread
FUCKING EPIC, actually liked the endings as well. Good job Gainax.
Also, my waifu.
Gunbuster was awesome, also best ending ever.
Diebuster I was like "wtf is this shit? lame way to cash the cow, gainax". Then Nono became Buster Machine 7 and it went uphill.
>>10004726 diebuster before episode 4 was good
Gunbuster was shit.
DIEBUSTER WAS SHIT.
the ending of diebuster was awesome
Gunbuster is the best anime ever.
Diebuster is unwatchable crap, and an insult to the original series.
I loved both. L-O-V-E B-O-T-H. My blood boils. When I reach them.
Also, GRRROOOOOVVVIIINNN MMMAAAGGGIIICCc
hating on gunbuster is like saying you don't like anything miyazaki has ever done. either you're pretending because you don't want to like popular things, or you have awful taste.
Diebuster is an awesome anime.
Gunbuster is overrated crap.
No. Gunbuster is pretty badly written. It's from Gainax's top.
No, I don't hate Gunbuster but don't try to pass it off as better as it is really. Nothing in this anime is outstanding really.
Incorrect, "Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann" is the best anime ever. Period.
That's mai waifu.
i suppose evangelion was "just another harem/mecha anime" and didn't have sweeping influence either, amirite?
Needs moar Garbuster. Composite space monster from outside our solar system has been destroyed, but what about the one made at the end of Gunbuster? It's gonna happen.
I meant "it's far from Gainax top". I can name 5 Gainax productions superior to Gunbuster, and will:
End of Evangelion
They were both excellent. I find Diebuster to be better, but not by much.
Whats the matter fags? too much HARD WORK for you to handle?
Honestly these two are gainaxs best works.
IKE IKE BOKURA NO GUNBUSTER!
Gainax anime is too DEEP for you charlatans, AMIRITE?
NGE is a special case, besides you can never know the impact something will have.
Besides NGE is also symbolism for symbolism sake without a actual meaning or purpose ... I hope you are not trying to pass off NGE as some kind of masterwork here ...
Watching Diebuster officially made me a Tsurumaki fan. That guy knows how to create atmosphere if anything.
Shame only a few sequences of Diebuster had actual atmosphere...
Clearly you don't know what atmosphere means.
i am, sort of, but also pointing out how people like to pretend that eva didn't influence 90% of the shit they lipservice. (like people who think FLCL is the best thing ever, but NGE was "too pretentious" (!!!!)).
as for whether or not gunbuster is the best anime ever, or even one of the best gainax, whatever. it's quality one way or the other, and people who hate just don't want to be "gainaxfags". if they really wanted to appear flippant and cool, they should just admit they like it but aren't gainax fanbois.
i don't see how one could like anything in even remotely similar genres without at least passingly liking gunbuster.
Look I watched the WHOLE DAMN thing so I can say it IS shit, and pretentious one at that (since it takes itself too serious).
Serious, you are trying to excuse a OVA that was completely serious about destroying the galactic core and also about the "monsters" being the the galaxy anti-virus ...
Diebuster is better because it does not try to be oh so serious, the only "failing" is when they remember it was Gunbuster 2 and started to work on it being that.
>pretentious one at that (since it takes itself too serious).
It's pretentious because it takes itself too serious. Oh, how I lol'd!
Gunbuster is better, but Diebuster is pretty good too, good enough for me to blow like $30-$40 each on the dvds
Not my favorite OVAs ever, but I had some damn good times watching them.
How can you say the whole damn thing? IT WAS SIX FUCKING EPISODES FAGGOT.
Also, all Gunbuster haters need to shut the fuck up. Seriously, most satifyingly epic shit ever. Diebuster's good too, but the scope was much more limited, thus not as epic.
>>10006422 is the kind of thing that doesn't ruffle my feathers at all. i understand not loving gunbuster, but thinking its trash while its sequel, other gainax anime, and any space/anime is good, is outrageous.
You do realize that most of the problems the Gunbuster haters have stem from the fact that it's really really OLD. Honestly, appreciate it for being great in its time, because it was, even if by today's standards it's not the greatest.
Then watch Diebuster, since it IS amazing by today's standards. Mai Waifu related
I really disliked Gunbuster. The first few episodes were stupid and unbelievable Robots doing push-ups and running in "chariots of fire" sequences? Is this supposed to be funny? If so, the fact that Noriko was crying like a little baby all the time, and the "character forming" events like the stuff with Smith made it seem like it was trying to be serious. The show couldn't figure out what it wanted it be. The battle sequences were also boring, with nothing real happening until episode 4. Maybe I'm spoiled by current anime, but Akira came out the same year and had tons of action.
lol so how much anime do you drop after 4 eps?
It's supposed to be a bit funny, yes. But when you stop to think of why they're doing what they'r doing, it actually makes sense. They're not doing pushups and running for exercise, they're doing it for *coordination training*.
>how much anime do you drop after 4 eps?
I'm not that guy, but my answer would be: A metric fuckload.
It's a real unit. Look it up.
>The battle sequences were also boring
>stem from the fact that it's really really OLD
yup. newfags cutting off hundreds of excellent anime because they can't stand shit that isn't CG. it's mindboggling.
Yeah, I came up with that explanation. It still seems more silly than funny or logical to me, and jars with the serious feel of the rest of the show.
I agree, if it's not good after 4 episodes it's not going to get better
You must not watch ANY anime longer than 26 episodes, because it's a simple fact that almost zero longer running series hit any kind of stride in their opening parts.
When was the last time you watched it?
Gunbuster before the latter half or so of episode 4 was rather slow and only enjoyable if you've finely honed your sense of nostalgia for 80's anime.
After that the rest of GB and all of DB are pretty much the winningest anythings ever made, and even /a/ can only kinda hate them, for all its efforts.
About a month or so ago?
6 months give or take.
BUM BOM BUM BOM BUM BOM BUM BOM

No love for The Wings of Honneamise? For shame on all of you.
The animation was too much "I WANNA BE LIVE-ACTION" for me.
I hate people saying this so much.
"What dude? you didn't watch that aneemeh til the 89th episodes? it's really great after that"
If an anime need 12, even 8 episodes before getting good, then it's a shit anime., and its director fucking fails.
And I can tell in one or 2episodes anyway if it's gonna be shit or not.
I watched first ep of Higurashi and thought it was gonna be crap, but I still watched BOTH seasons and I still think it's quite shitty, I should trust my impressions more often.
animation =/= character design
