Wish someone would translate this, so we can see some NPC fucking action.
>Best Girl is an NPC
Retroactively adding more material eh
Well, that's what most of Aincrad arc is to begin with.
Otherwise, you just have Kirito on the first day, and then we jump 2 years, to Asuna and Kirito already at a point where they obviously like each other.
The author just figured it was a good idea to go back and add more content to fill in some of the gaps, and now he wants to be more thorough with that.
Yea I know, there's a million sides stories to SAO, and I don't consider that a sign of good writing/planning.
at this rate we are getting sword art online progressive:phantom bullet by 2047
The reason it's like that because the original SAO (that was entered as a short novel in a contest) contains only a few things before the final fight, plus a flashback to how it started due to the word limit imposed on the contest.
Progressive's only meant to cover the 75 floors of Aincrad...
And seeing as it seems it's 1 book per year, so far... And each books covers only 1-2 floors. 30 years if a pretty small estimate.
>B-T page goes down
>first volume translations never finished
That doesn't really stop it from being poorly planned.
Basically this. SAO, in its birth, was only released as a single book. I'm not even sure if Reki would have continued the same way, if he had won that contest.
Either way, it seems people suggested he write some of the short-stories, to fill in Aincrad arc. And Progressive, my guess, is just his way of filling everything in, instead of making randomly assorted Short Stories.
Why would you say this? That's terrible?
>Why would you say this?
I'm just saying that this is basically never getting translated to English.
well at least you can have the original series, there's nothing translated in spanish and i'd really like to get the novels in paper some day.
Well, at the very least, I hope YenPress actually licenses Progressive (if it's not already,)
"Poorly planned" wouldn't be my choice of words, he submitted his work to a contest and had to abide by its rules or his submission wouldn't be counted. Simple as that.
Original SAO is pretty dodgy at best and you can tell that the word limit really had an affect on how the story was told so the side stories, and eventually Progressive, will be the definitive version which means SAO will have to stand on its own.
Well, they licensed the manga but not the 4koma.
Then again, the 4koma is filled with spoilers for everything.
Progressive 2 is out? Wait, is this about the third floor quest where Asuna beat some NPC that she wasn't supposed to beat with "hard work" ?
Yeah, the entire volume is about Monochrome Concerto.
It's licenced so wait 5 years and you'll eventually have it
Wait, what happened? Was it more Teh_Ping drama?
I might actually buy this then, I really hated how that got cut off because it wasn't fully written in the doujin he released.
SAO got licensed.
Ah I keep forgetting B-T drops licensed shit. I remember when they had to take down Haruhi and S&W, was a sad day.
First part was in that Doujinshi, but then later on, he posted the entire thing on his site. Concerto was fully avalable on his website, until a month before Volume 2 progressive's release.
>Progressive's only meant to cover the 75 floors of Aincrad...
I'm only expecting it to cover the first 25, actually. It's mainly about the author writing more Kirito-and-Asuna shenanigans, and 25 is where Asuna joins KoB. We know the general course of what happens after that already.
By the time he's done covering up to that, he'll be done the current arc of the main series and ready to switch to a new arc.
Kawahara publishes three volumes per year.
English translation starts when book 13 is already out and is scheduled for two volumes per year.
>I'm only expecting it to cover the first 25
By the time he's done covering that, he might be dead of old age.
>scheduled for two volumes per year.
Why would they do this? Why not just continue with the volume every 5 months thing? How stupid,
Because they always do this. Why do you think it took so long to get all of Haruhi translated? Fuck they even delayed shit sometimes, I'm pretty sure it'll will happen with every LN they get their hands on, too.
Official translators are shit.
You have what should be multiple translators working to translate a book written by one person.
The translation speed should be at least 1.5-1x faster.
Instead they somehow end up going slower.
Translators a shit.
To be fair, Progressive Asuna is better than volume one and on Asuna. She's pretty entertaining as a newbie.
>"I keep getting...... an extremely evil feeling"
>"Because, that ghost tree just now, it was a still growing sapling, right? Chopping it down makes me feel not environmentally friendly"
Fucking Yen Press. I know LN writing is not top tier but I'd really like to own physical copies of some of these.
Better off having fanlators doing the work for them
>"It's that. That said, It was only possible for a quest...... the quest starting NPC is in a random place. Asuna, are you confident in your ears?"
>As I said this, I calmly looked away, as if nothing happened in the past, and saw the rapier user cover her cherry red ears with her hands and retreating a step back for some reason..
>"......Kirito-kun, do you have an interest in that aspect? Do you have an ear fetish?"
The release speed usually isn't caused by slow translations, but economic factors.
Or so I've heard.
That reminds me of a story someone told me about, about a translation company in China, that was doing some LN. But fans realized that they were just ripping off fan-translations from before them, and the company threatened to sue everyone online, for "defaming" them.
Holy fuck that's ridiculous.
Sounds like China.
how much stuff is he working on anyways?
there's alicization, which is actually finished so it's just an editing work, and progressive, so is he working on something else that i'm forgetting or he's just really slow?
>about a translation company in China,
Yup, that's china alright.
I don't get why people don't just assume "Developed in china" means "Stolen from somewhere else" by now.
The main SAO novel, progressive, and Accel world. He probably also frequently discusses the course / plot / changed to any of the adaptations of his works. The main SAO novel is now getting to the point where he is practically trashing his entire web-novel plot and writing it from scratch.
One person can only write so much stuff.
Accel World, Alicization (which by the looks of it, will be getting massive changes soon, not to mention there's some content changes from the Web->LN) and Progressive.
And he releases a book every other months
ah sorry i completely forgot about accel world since i haven't read it/watched it yet.
>One person can only write so much stuff.
Unless you're a program like Kamachi.exe
Dark Elf, anon.
a program like jso6.exe would be good too.
If Yen Press got a hold of that program we'd get novels every few months.
all the more reason to provide her with your johnson
I'd much rather finish AW myself, but no complaining. I'd like to read it too.
>Wish someone would translate this
What the fuck?
Why the hell not.
Even still, it's poorly planned out as a whole. It's pretty obvious the guy rode the waves of popularity and success, bleeding it for all it was worth. Not that I can blame him, I would have done the same thing. But still, it wouldn't hurt to admit that it could have been planned out a bit better. Justifying it with this or that is fine, but don't lie to yourself by saying it could, in no way, be better.
the progressive manga's actually got some pretty good art.
It all boils down to what will sell. He is writing for money after all.
because it's the remake of the series which is supposedly well written
At least AW as his third story is better in character development. Haruyuki hits closer to home to the target audience, and with his mechanics in Alicization up he doesn't have much new stuff to think of in AW.
It's pretty weird. I think both AW and SAO were originally written to be standalone novels.
Nope, I don't think so.
And the recurring technologies are the Nervegear, BIC, and Neuro Linker.
Kawahara straight up mentions in an interview that he had no plans for a sequel when he was writing the first volume of AW.
>Something from the SAO author
There's also how the End of the Web Novel would make Accel World impossible.
Of course, it's possible SAO will greatly change in the coming volumes, as most have predicted.
From that link, >I might write a third series that ties both titles.
There's a nod at JiME.
sorry about my ignorance, what's JiME supposed to be?
Just In My Eyes (http://forums.animesuki.com/showthread.php?p=4636676#post4636676)
well that sounds both pretty fucking interesting and really different from AW and SAO.
i don´t know how well he will handle it tho.
He's said to have shifted into older woman-younger MC pairings around the time of his web novel days, that's why KYH is older. If he really does write JiME or a reincarnation, then the pairing should be different too.
Who is that delicious being and does Kirito fuck her?
>rode the waves of popularity and success, bleeding it for all it was worth.
But SAO was a failure initially, and he was just continuing to write it as practice and putting it online. He wasn't getting paid until he got the AW contract and they scooped up SAO along with it.
It wasn't a failure. He just couldn't get it under the character count of the contest.
Dengeki had a strict limit of 120 pages for their entries.
What do you expect? She's a 2D girl in a 2D world, which makes her even better than all the other girls in it.
Kizmel the Dark Elf
Does she want the D? WILL she get the D?
Who knows. But at this rate, we get 4-7 more books of her.
New side story Johnson Concerto.
just what the franchise needed, another entry to kirito's harem
Non Penetratable Character?
would it kill if we get just one character that is not defined by his relationship with kirito?
This time it's Asuna's fault for choosing to help the female Dark Elf instead of the male Forest Elf and then beating the Forest Elf despite no matter which side you chose the Dark Elf died. Fuck Asuna and her game breaking bullshit.
It's not poorly planned, it wasn't planned at all.
It was meant to be a short story for the Dengeki Novel price which still exceeded the word limit so he didn't submit it and just published it online on his site.
People liked it and encouraged him to expand on the story so he did.
i don't know you people but if i were about to try my luck writing a short story i'd be prepared beforehand to expand the universe of my story to fucking infinity if it gets popular.
That's a point. So we do all agree if we will witness something like SaO in our lifetime, real girls in the game are still 3DPD, right? I just hope they work hard on the NPC artificial intelligence. Just imagine, people start rooting for NPCs and the game actually splits up people into defending NPCs or trying to eliminate the NPCs. I'm sure the female NPC cast will show you gratitude for defending them.
Just a reminder.
is this the normalfag entry level recomendation chart?
>Guilty Crown gold standard
There was a page limit which he still exceeded.
Now that he can do it, he is trying to rewrite the Aincrad arc from scratch without being limited by a word limit.
And everything that came after the SAO game (Fairy Dance, Phantom Bullet, Alicization) has almost nothing to do with it and isn't changed anyway.
>ggo already there
this was made by some /a/non to make others mad
But guys, all 13 volumes are already out in english, so even if they're slow, they managed to catch up
so with this new SAO season or whatever is he in a girl's body or is he a trap
You... You... You really have no idea what people are talking about, do you?
To illustrate, Fan Translations have been around for some time, which is why they've caught up.
However, the books have been licensed, which puts fan translations in danger. In fact, there's only one active translator for the series left, and he says he'll stop if he's asked to.
The company that's translating is going to start from book 1, and move all the way up to 13.
This will take years. And then there's how no one will translate Progressive, unless YenPress does it.
picked the fuck up. hopefully there are many lewd misunderstandings to be had
Fuck, I'm stupid, I thought that the 13 volumes were translated by Yen Press.
sao is for edgy teenagers with shit taste
Same case for AW. The translator for V7 is busy with university and I have army commitments.
In the meantime, this is my progress on V6 chapter 6: http://pastebin.com/igd0wceu
I wonder. Does SAO have censorship, if you haven't disabled the Ethics Code?
I'd rather not think of the implications but once the ethic code is off in-game, anything is possible. Your "business" is suddenly active just like in real life (or rather that's how I saw it).
Just Realized that in japan, you have to cencore certain erotic images, even in porn.
