Why can;t anime have nice, catchy songs like Disney?
Because songs in Disney are based on musical theater.
Songs in anime are based on actual music.
Why can't disney come up with an original story and animate without rotoscope?
You're saying that like it's something bad. Plenty of movies are based of something else and rotoscoping has been around forever, is a big time saver and if done right it can look amazing.
I want an anime about Cu Chulainn
> if done right it can look amazing.
there's your problem
>hasn't seen Macross
In any case "I won't say I'm in love" is a fucking underrated Disney song.
Disney is one of the few studios that actually do it right. Your bad experiences with low budget anime shit and rotoscoping can't dismiss an entire technique.
macross is fantastic, but it's also 30 years old by now
Still better than 90% of anime made today and still catchy music.
This still makes me laugh.
Suck my dick
BLESS MY SOUL
HERC WAS ON A ROLL
PERSON OF THE WEEK IN EVERY GREEK OPINION POLL
Are you not counting opening and ending songs? Or are you just not watching anime altogether? Because that's bullshit.
is that the nanny?
>Music played in theaters isn't actual music.
What kind of logic is that?
There's an entire franchise. What you gonna say that this isn't catchy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cl-OR8ppWpA
Weeaboo logic. Their beloved ana may has to be above all else when it comes to artistic merits.
Come on OP, you're comparing the best Disney movie ever made (fact) with every anime. Obviously most won't compare.
It's not like it's hard to be above all else when it comes to artistic merits nowadays.
Meg so tsun tsun
You know the fact
Disney > anime
>That bloated pic
Saved. That was the best episode too.
>implying Uchuu Senkan Yamato isn't the fucking pinnacle of catchy songs.
Well too bad they haven't made any good ones recently. It's all 3D shit nowadays.
/co/ please go back to bed
Because you don't speak Japanese
They don't even make 2D anymore
All disney has is pussy liberal shit. There's no hot blooded manly action like the Nips have.
Why would that matter? 2D mecha didn't stop Star Driver from being shit.
Because it's not a valid comparison. Disney is doing something entirely different nowadays. Apples and oranges.
I just came here to remind you all that Mulan is the best Disney movie.
They ARE the 2D animation industry. They have nothing else to prove, it's only natural for them to expand their horizons.
And she has some nice assets, if you know what I mean.
That's not Fantasia
Eddie Murphy shits all over it
>They ARE the 2D animation industry. They have nothing else to prove, it's only natural for them to expand their horizons.
More like the 2D animation industry just died and they moved onto something else.
If you're gonna draw comparisons over animation, do it with their old stuff, otherwise it's irrelevant at least in this context.
>not liking Frozen
You got to let it go sometimes, my friend.
>best Disney movie
Listened to fucking Blumen like 30 times already.
I will admit zero to hero is a good song and it does work with this.
No one gives a shit about 2
No one gives a shit about Plus' music
>Not best Disney movie
Best characters, best songs, best jokes, top tier (of disney) plot
I actually listen to that song when I go to the gym. It's on my pump some iron playlist.
Holy shit that was great
you didnt post the dinosaurs. but those are the best part
I think 'lol' is appropriate for this.
Who put the "glad" in Gladiator?
>no one gives a fuck about Voices
That was perfect
>Best Disney movie
>Anything beside Rescuers (1 or 2) or Great Mouse Detective
Reminder that Idina Menzel is godly.
Catchy songs do not equal good songs. Todays mainstream music is already littered with them, they're just annoying as fuck.
>better than the REAL best Disney movie
It's alright bro, you can be wrong sometimes.
>Best characters, best songs
But that's The Lion King
Hercules is the prettiest Disney movie.
Best songs is actually Princess and the Frog.
That's not Fantasia.
The only memorable one is the villain's songs. Better than Tangled with songs but still meh.
I know this is a bait thread, but what the hell. speaking as an animator here.
Rotoscoping simply doesn't scale well across different budgets and production schedules, and furthermore is only applicable to a very specific squash-stretch style of animating. Disney is a huge business, and thus has ironclad, centralized control over their own budgets, scheduling, and style. In contrast, anime production is a much more diffused process spread across multiple studios (incidentally, one of the major reasons why licensing anime for Western publishing is more of a pain in the ass than you'd think it would be). Furthermore, the stylistic cues of anime have their roots in static manga, thus relying on quick shifts between locked poses instead of squash and stretch.
The Disney production style is an exercise in centralized individual excess, while the anime production style is an exercise in diffused group minimalism. Rotoscoping is well suited to the former, but ill fits the latter.
The best song from hercules is I can go the distance no fucking question.
>Implying this wasn't your first waifu
If anything, I'll give you Lion King as a close second.
Man, I hardly even remember that movie. I'll have to watch it again soon
Actually, now that I think about it, why aren't there any anime musicals? Or even musical episodes?
Is it the xenophobia thing? Which means they'd never try a different approach to the songs, and instead stick with jpop?
(I just remembered, Excel Saga joked about a small musical segment. But you would think someone would have done it for real by now.)
Almost There and When We're Human were great, what you talkin' about.
This. Frozen songs were better than the last few Disney movies.
I literally laughed out loud. It was appropriate.
/co/ git out
Voices was shit, Idol Talk and Information High were great though, just like how Sharon Apple was better than Myung
Not him... but Ariel was my first waifu for sure.
No, this was.
>not knowing you are hero in your life
Watch the last episode of Kiniro Mosaic
Let's agree to disagree
>Or even musical episodes?
Even Japs know musicals are shit.
Beauty and the Best is the best.
Glad I got to see her in Wicked. Dat Defying Gravity.
>hair clips through her arm
Kurenai had one.
Lilo & Stitch is one of the most touching, and actually realistic, Disney movies.
Nerima Daikon Brothers
Am I the only one that's watched Nerima Daikon Brothers?
There are. Several
One of the things that was really nice about the older Disney movies, at least pertaining to the music, compared to, say, this >>100021563 is that older shit tended to have really good theming. The movies would do a great job of creating a consistent idea or mood throughout the whole movie with its music, like Hercules with the gospel mixing or, say, the jungle book, Lion King, or Hunchback.
More recently, it's just getting to be the same generic pop music in every flick. Not that they don't sound good, but they don't have as much character as the themed songs.
