The music in this series is absofuckinglutely incredible. That alone made up for the shitty dialogue in the first episode, the amazing animation on top makes this a definite series for me to watch this season. What did /a/ think of it?
Is there actual music like this? How do I find it?
It's popular, therefore /a/ hates it.
5/10 at best.
qt is qt
Also I liked the episode in general.
The dialogues weren't that bad. In the english dub at least
Well there were people hyping it hard on /a/ in fall 2013. "saving anime" and whatnot
Created a backlash effect so now its a hate it or love it type deal on /a/
I can only assume this was their plan from the beginning
Overall, I enjoyed it a quite a bit once I got the feel for it. It definitely doesn't take itself seriously in the least. What sold me was that fancy pistol twirl followed by Dandy completely missing his holster
You mean.. jazz?
I'm shit at putting songs in genre's, but Viva Namida has a house vibe going for it.
Like Daft punk's discovery.
I like how it didn't have any moe highschool bullshit in it.
It's fine, but having +100 shows about it sucks.
The small things about it made me laugh like when Dandy went to holster his pistol and just missed
That was probably the best part of the whole episode
I liked the dialogue a lot, the sub script was pretty stiff though
There's a dub airing at approximately the same time.
This obviously means that a horde of outsiders will invade /a/ and destroy everything you love, like your quality "Who Homu here?" threads or Waifu discussion #52312 threads.
It's shit, and it looks like nips think so too, thankfully.
That's not a good thing.
I appreciate that Dandy can appreciate a fine ass over overrated meat pillows. A proper butt takes time to form, breasts are genetic.
Both can still be affected by poor eating, but one will look better bigger, the other sags.
i liked it, colorful, well animated, nice music, qt is a qt and the cat is fine too
>There's a dub airing at approximately the same time.
The "dub" airs first, bozo. It's an American cartoon. The Japanese version is the actual dub.
I am sorry anon, I didn't keep up. I was under the impression that they were repeating the first episode on a western channel, while episode two aired on Japanese channels.
Keep telling yourself that
I love this ending. Etsuko Yakushimaru's voice is a fucking blessing.
god I love that ED.
Cute straw man you've got there.
But seriously, I was under the impression that the first episode bombed hard enough to ruin any sort of expectations of "popularity" for this show.
You should stop having impressions, you are not very good at it.
It was really bad. The animation is top notch though.
FMA Brotherhood is popular and /a/ loves it. It's not that /a/ hates things that are popular, it's that /a/ hates things that are lacking of substance/innovation, and those are the type of shows that when given a large enough budget, are pushed down people's throats.
I could say the same about anyone under the impression that Space Dandy is a good show.
>are pushed down people's throats.
Yeah, you sure are being forced to go to Nyaa and download Space Dandy (or use RSS or whatever).
Abandon thread, the shitposter has arrived.
>/a/ hates things that are lacking of substance/innovation
Good god really?
You realize this thread was kept alive by the crossboarders here for the 99m get? Now you can hear /a/'s opinion.
oh boy here we go.
FMA Brotherhood was good.
Space Dandy looks promising so far too.
Can we now talk about cute space cats again?
>The music in this series is absofuckinglutely incredible SHIT.
I don't know, it's been like one episode.
>Space Dandy looks promising so far too.
Judging by the first episode alone? No, it doesn't.
When's episode 2?
If you want to talk about dandy go to /co/ or /m/, rarely does /a/ shit in a show in such an uniform manner
Judging from the post times this is most likely just one guy samefagging.
Hey you, what is your problem?
Maybe every thread that wasn't during corssboarder hour has been this way and /a/ honestly dislikes the show.
Because for a comedy it was surprisingly not funny and the characters were boring.
People trying to like anime.
so is this show going to have a new episode every week on toonami?
Who gives a shit?
Space Dandy sucks and so does Toonami.
>caring about toonami
Well, yeah OP and ED was great but the rest of the music didn't really catch my attention. Which means it was fitting of course, just not outstanding. But cool if you like it I guess.
Anyways, I'm hyped for next episode. Will they explain the ending of ep01? Will Sayo Yamamoto let Dandy check his privilege? We will see.
Because it's a dub bloc for normalfags.
I was quite sad that she hasn't done music for anime in a while.
>mfw the ED
That was a nice surprise.
And why are you angry about these "normalfags", anon?
Have you ever watched Toonami?
Seriously, your question should answer itself.
Haven't watched it and I won't watch it, but it's a giant piece of shit.
In your opinion which suits Space Dandy better the dub or sub?
I love how Dandy made the prior decision to hold that pose through the duration of the teleport sequence.
Why do you keep asking "why"?
That is the onpy answer you should need
Fuck off bear, you are retarded. Go post your MAL somewhere.
Not again, take it to the get thread
Probably because they tend to watch shit shows like Bleach, Naruto and Space Dandy.
Well I will watch both but until now the dub just convinces me more.
This kind of wordplay/dialogue humor that is heavily carried by speech delivery just doesn't work that well when you have to read the punchline. No idea how it is when you can understand moon.
Sub or dub?
Tomorrow at 11:30 PM EST
It's irrelevant since the show is shit regardless of language.
And why would you care that much about other peoples tastes and opinions?
Are you a bit insecure maybe?
I preferred the dub to the sub by a wide margin
What kind of retard watches a dub?
There are other communities for that kind of retards
>This one autist samefagging
It's more about supporting the network and riffing on crappy shows with the livethread. It's fun anon, you should try it.
Why would i want to support it? In a circlejerk of all things.
oh boy oh yes.
And the japanese two hours later or what?
Because their tastes and opinions shit up the board and the industry on the whole.
You understand what "fun" is, don't you?
But I don't want to support the network.
Watching chinese cartoons is serious business, how dare you.
Because it's fun you goon. It's a bunch of dudes getting together and watching anime on a Saturday night
I'm not even sure, I liked the dub more so I kinda tuned out for the sub times. It's close though
Yes, but i also understand that dubs are a defective product and toonami and the whole western media is even more decadent than the nip one.
And toonami threads are just retards circlejerking, /co/ should never have allowed them.
Now please stop posting offtopic about that retard bloc, discuss dandy if you must, braindead retard.
Heey, FLCL mind
What kind of question is that?
The one he was written in, and where the writer had actual input on the characterization.
Not some retarded westerner's interpretation of him which consists of trying to sound like Nathan Drake.
All this toonami kiddies.
I hope the preorder sales weren't a fluke, and dandy is bombing hard as fuck, producers will be scared to even mention toonami in the future.
Best mind son
If you are a 15 year old hipster.
I thought the dub script was better though, it was funnier than the Japanese script.
FLCL is 14 years old itself, anon-kun
I hope your alone forever
You used the word "retard" three times in your post.
No pleasant discussion is going to arise from posts like that.
Well, you are completely within your right to be mistaken, /co/cksucker.
You mean the script that butchered one of the characters and added retarded lines everywhere?
The one where the poor actors have to speed up and slow down their lines in weird ways to match mouthflaps?
Yeah, it's great.
No shit, one would have thought you'd gotten that point after dandy sucks#70 thread.
Discuss this in /co/ with the other toonami shitstains.
I watched both, thought one was better than the other.
I wonder what made this guy so angry, did /co/ rape his waifu or something?
Half the fun is baiting people like you into posting here to waste your time "trolling" people.
Being factually wrong is a thing, you know?
Not everything can be waved away with the casual mention of "opinions".
Jokes on you!
I never even liked Space Dandy.
So will toonami, maybe you are not familiar with how anime industry works.
It's absolutely dependant on otakus, even more for late night shows like space dandy, and it's bombing hard in japan for now at least, and producers are going to think (and this might not be all that wrong, otakus are this obsessive) the reason that happened is because their fans saw them as "traitors" by going to an outsider fanbase for money.
Sucks, I still liked the dub better than the sub.
That gif is shit holy fuck.
And it's totally in your right to be an idiot.
Just don't flaunt your ignorance around, it's unsightly.
whatever, it's a long way to go. Also bones is also making Captain Earth, if this doesn't sell I don't know what does. Nobody really knows anything yet.
I know this is half of the fun but when I see this one retard spamming his ass off, I almost feel bad that I want to enjoy anime.
You are acting like this is weird in /a/
I don't think it's just one autist though
They have been spamming Adult Swim with commercials for it. I'm sure there is some sort of the same practice going on in Japan. This is common sense...
The comedy was bad, the characters were annoying, and the concept is idiotic.
As with a large majority of /a/ users, they want the content of the board to be something besides circlejerks on popular shows. I don't think anyone cares about 'normalfags' as long as they aren't on /a/. Just like I assume /co/ wouldn't want a bunch of threads on Family Guy, or /mu/ on whatever shit band is popular on the radio, or /v/ on CoD, and so on.
>the concept is idiotic
Do you even anime? An alien hunter in space is pretty mundane by anime standards
That's an awful nice opinion you've got there.
Too bad it makes you look like a shit eating retard.
>this one retard spamming his ass off
How are you this dumb and still capable of breathing?
Don't be rude, that is for starting who homu here threads.
Yes it's an alien hunter in space. Now describe more of the concept. Like, how this is a job? Why is he an alien hunter? Where does he get these missions from? What's with his sidekick robot? If he's an alien hunter, how was he so fucking bad at catching an alien who had no weapons, skills of any sort, was completely alone, and had no idea he was after him? etc, etc. They just took a generic concept, and said, let's make this funny, and seemingly ignored all logic behind it. Which is completely fine, as long as it's actually funny.
This might be a bit of an overused insult, but you should really go check if you don't have autism.
This is actually going to be explained in the next episode. Red haired chick will be introduced who is his boss at the interplanetary alien bureau of whoknows.
You didn't even comment on anything I said, or even quote anything for that matter. If you really can't think of anything to say, maybe take a second to think if you might actually be wrong?
God damnit /a/, I came to this thread for music.
no music, only autism
Man, I understand your point of thinking, but I really doubt most of /a/ hates things because they lack substance. They usually tend to hate what is popular, really. It's just a natural pattern. The more famous the show is, the more people will know, and that's bound to annoy /a/.
We have no idea what that first episode was about.
Damn right. I wish /a/ could actually discuss something instead of shitpost and derail threads.
It was even worse than KlK.
Well yes, they are obviously going to explain stuff as the show goes on, but I'm saying that the concept of the show isn't anything special. Obviously, there is a slim chance that the show completely changes in following episodes, but it seems highly unlikely. It already has too many flaws to be taken as a remotely serious show. And again, that's not what the show was aiming for. It's a comedy.
/a/ will probably get upset if there are a shit-ton of useless threads on a show, but if a show is popular and decent, you will be able to find genuine discussion of it on /a/. That said, most shows that are popular are rather bad, and the thread starters even worse. Maybe I'm giving /a/ more of the benefit of the doubt, but I can't think back to a show that was popular and (I thought was) good that /a/ entirely hated on. And the same goes for shows that aren't popular and are bad, (most?) people on /a/ don't just pretend to like or dislike something based on it's popularity. There probably is a slight biased, and a ton of shit posters on each side for shows that are popular though.
Its not simply a problem of popularity. The problem is that Space Dandy attracts the worst kind of fandom, the toonami crowd and other casuals. That would ruin /a/.
Well your opinion is wrong and gay.
I expected it to start with a bang like Cowboy Bebop and Champloo, but it didn't. I had to stop watching 2/3rds through and go to sleep because my eyes kept closing. I didn't notice anything special about the music, but I'll go check out Youtube now to confirm. If Space Dandy doesn't get good within the next 2 or 3 episodes it's getting dropped.
Great discussion skills /v/ermin, learned them in the toonami general?
It's common knowledge that Japan has shit taste.
Indeed, but this series can be considered as a test, so if it bombs, no more simulcasts for toonami.
Oh, I get what you're saying.
Not that I want toonami to crash and burn, but i like their fans confined to /co/ with old series.
You know what was great last week?
Half of Sunday 4chan was down.
It really delayed and weaked shitposting.
Fuck you, I actually had to watch my backlog
I managed only to watch Magi and We're the Millers with my brother
Finnished fractale, never felt so saved before.
I was thinking that he actually tossed it because it has zero accuracy
I checked out the dub. They took the god tier OP and ED out of the dub. I don't see how people say the dub is good.
What about the part where that robot alien thing tried to give the thumbs up while being consumed?
They watch it on toonami anon, what do you expect?
You mean the terminator reference?
>OPs and EDs are all there are to dubs
the dub itself is good, even if Funi screwed over the OP/ED (it's not Toonami's fault they got cut; they aired what was given to them)
No it's not, it just shows how out of touch and destroyed most subs are.
Seriously, stop trying to defend shit.
How is it bad?
>There's a dub therefore it's both a success and is popular
>implying anime is relevant in the US
Despite what the more autistic Toonami-viewers believe, that's not the case
Mediocre acting, discrepancies with the script even Commie would laugh at, butchered OP and ED.
Only one of this would make it laughably bad, all the dubs that are accepted as decent suffer from none of these.
The characters are flat as fuck in the dub.
Only good thing the dub had was the narrator. He sounded like something out of an old western film, and i'm a sucker for those.
Other than that it was your usual Funimation "recycle every actor we have" gig
It's set to air a full OP since it's first in the block, but something went awry
This shit is why you never try to do a simulcast. You're going to be so rushed you won't be able to do the best possible. I mean yes, dubs are usually always terrible, but you could at least make your shit slightly less shitty.
I think it's 8 hours later or so in Japan
>producers will be scared to even mention FUNIMATION in the future.
I love waifu and Who homu here threads.
No, he learned them from being 15.
Are you not getting the point? We have seen otakus boicott shit for stupidly trivial shit, and the studios either beg forgivness or file for bankrupcy in (most) cases.
Nips are not liking the USA first thing one bit.
Which subs /a/?
They were planning on having it, but there's some licensing issues with Okamura's music. TV is a bitch, man.
They said they'd go after the rights if enough people requested it, though (i.e. go tell them about it). Which SHOULD seem like a no brainer, but we're probably talking close to a million dollars here.
>And toonami threads are just retards circlejerking, /co/ should never have allowed them.
>implying that's not how all Generals are
Not to depart too far from the topic, but seriously that's what happens when you have consistent Generals on a given subject. It starts as a good idea on paper, then devolves into tripfags circlejerking on how they're all regulars and spewing the same shit in each new iteration.
Then new people will come in and try to get some discussion going on said topic, see how shitty it is, then call them out on it. Then all your tripfags and regular anons will bitch and moan about how the people who disagree with how the General is are cancer killing it. All potential new posters are scared away by the faggotry, and the General continues to bask in its own shit.
/co/ really shouldn't have allowed it, but really there's no other place it could go (and quite frankly /co/ has an issue of accepting just about anything. Even shitposters, which is probably why it's easy to troll over there)
Only Commie or HS, throw a coin and try not to vomit.
Only morons at Toonamifaithful.com are like that, man.
And this is anime we're talking about, autism is highly likely no matter where they're getting it.
Horrible Subs it is, they may be horrible, but I'm not enough of a masochist to use Commie.
What is NoobSubs?
It's their retarded "we are love" idea, great on the old 4chan times, HORRIBLE nowadays.
I almost feel bad for them, toonamifags should have been told to get fucked, simple as that.
Why should we try to help toonami of all things?
Most US underaged B& are asleep and normalfags somewhere else, this is no place for toonamifags.
No idea, try them out.
If the people in Japan want to be angry with anyone it should be Bones, Bandai, and Watanabe since the first in America thing was THEIR IDEA.
Nah, it usually works like this.
>normalfag/person who has never been on /a/ doesn't lurk
>Posts shitty thread
>Gets saged/railed to oblivion
>Goes to /co/ because it's "close enough"
>"Hey guys I don't like /a/ and anime is cartoons sooooo"
>Half of the replies are about how elitist /a/ is
>Other half are calling OP a faggot because he shouldn't be posting that on /co/ and that it's his fault he's not competent enough to lurk before posting
/co/ used to be one of the best boards on 4chan, people from other boards used to envy them as one of the more tolerable boards.
Ever since generals, it's been a containment board on level with /mlp/, which hilariously enough, is clearly not the problem, the split didn't remotely fix /co/.
It's /a/'s fault that it's there in the first place.
And they are, you think they can live on USA love alone? It's not hard to subsist with anime without nips
How so? It's not our fault you fucks are too stupid to throw cancer out like we do, we didn't send them nowhere, they just asked and you accepted them.
>we didn't send them nowhere
>he doesn't remember when /a/ pushed it onto /vg/
It's not just generals, we have tons of them but we are fine.
It's their lack of elitism, they let anyone through the door, they are not small enough to survive that like /tg/, which is still a shadow of it's former self.
Mods did, we had nothing to do with it, and /vg/ did not accept them, they shitposted in the threads until mods had to give up.
At the end of the day, you can't force a board to discuss something it doesn't want to, you have no one to blame but yourself.
>/co/ should never have allowed them.
1. /co/ did not like the toonami threads, and there was always endless bitching about it all the time.
2. Most people in the toonami threads aren't even /co/ regulars.
But it's there now because /tv/ or /b/ wouldn't take them, and because the moderation hammered down that it should be stuck on /co/. Bitching eventually died down because it was futile and because people were actually banned for bitching.
Except that's not true. Most shows on /a/ are judged by their objective quality, and the shows that are shit that some here still enjoy are usually ironically. Shows like SAO, and AoT, that are immensly popular outside but hated here are riddled with problems and are trite, brittle, and shitty anime.
You seem like you just crawled off from reddit. Bet you're missing your karma right about now to hide these posts you don't like?
And so are people that spoil rec threads, but they keep doing it.
If you really don't like it, you only need ten people spamming in them with a dynamic IP to make them pretty unbrowsable.
This made me so sad. There are a lot of fags that should have been told to get fucked.
Going to be completely honest. Sure, it's nice that CN/AS wants to continue a tradition they started over a decade ago by continuing to air anime despite it being their lowest rated programming. However it's created a terrible delusion in viewers that anime is now a semi-viable market in the US as if it were 1999 again.
But c'mon, the average person probably only wanted that back just so they could watch DBZ for the gorillionth time. I mean it's no wonder /a/ doesn't want that kind of shit. Really it's common sense.
>watching anime for fun
I bet you listen to music for fun too, don't you?
>But c'mon, the average person probably only wanted that back just so they could watch DBZ for the gorillionth time.
Well, that's probably true since the people that run Toonami are extremely irritated by DBZ being constantly requested even after they've explained many times that not only do they not want to air it for the millionth time, but they can't even get it in the first place.
To be fair /tv/ is probably even worse than /co/ is now
It's far, far worse. Whereas /co/ is terrible because it's too accepting, /tv/ is fucking shit because they're simultaneously stuck up and dumb.
That's because it makes no commercial sense to have it, nor does it gain more popularity, internet has actually lowered anime "popularity", so now it's a great time to be a fan in the west in /a/, but horrible if you want mainstream shit.
The only decent big board left is /a/ (because we camouflage ourselves in layers of shit that no normalfag would ever want to go to) and /vg/ in some generals, but that one varies even in generals that were good after a while.
I sometimes go on /co/ to see if there are any storytimes going, and last Saturday there was a Toonami General up at like 8 PM and all it is is random shit and random anime discussion. How do the mods allow that garbage?
The only mod that is in touch with the community is our based kino and /jp/'s maido, but maido hates them.
>How do the mods allow that garbage?
I think they aren't allowed to do anything about it.
I mean if you're going to allow something you could at least make sure the threads about it are actually, you know, ABOUT the topic.
He doesn't say it out loud, since /jp/ field trip day proved whatever board he says he likes dies, but moot doesn't give a flying fuck about most boards, the only boards that are decent are the ones moot dedicates some time to keeping clean.
They retroactively ban people by browsing old Toonami threads. They're just too lazy to do anything immediately.
I wish they were at least active enough to get rid of that guy that never shuts up about Clone Wars.
He's so dedicated to shitposting about it that I'm starting to believe that he's serious.
If they spent more than two weeks, they are either REALLY good at it, or have a personal interest in the shitposting topic.
Speaking of mods, haven't ours been picking up the pace lately? the past month was slow as fuck, but we are back to a mass shitposting prunning every 15 minutes.
>implying they'll do that
Nah. Remember this is a general you're talking about, and on /co/ no less. Chances are nobody reports them because they just think "lol he's just one of the bros!"
It depends. A dubs thread went to autosage the other day.
>implying that anyone likes shit wars guy
It isn't even a Toonami General thing, it's all over 4chan. Half of the time someone brings it up he just appears like magic.
Well, even in the past we had one or two rogue threads, even more likely if the janitor is new, which I suspect. But you can't deny that it's been really calm this past days.
Agreed with OP. Really digging the music so far, OP and ED are addictive. Listening to OP now NAMIDA NAMIDA. Even OST like the song playing in the last 5 minutes where it picks up when the robot comes out that sounds pretty cool.
Overall enjoyed the episode, came in expecting more style and entertainment than an intricate plot or anything but I think we're still in for a ride and there's still time for it to have all 3. Time to wait and see. Now listening to the ED, aaaahhhhhh.
January 29 couldn't come soon enough.
Viva Namida Single release when?!
the translators actually did a decent job making the portions where jokes should have been and maybe the subs just lacked the knowledge to translate the provided jokes well.
