Blender has zremesh now.
Its not a knockoff, its the plugin written by the same character who created the original.

https://exoside.com/quadremesher/
>>
I don't use blender but it looks like it worked pretty well other than being a little high density for games. Did he have to use guides for the remesh?
>>
>>704667
I did that remesh, I wanted to do a quick test so I just downloaded some random Trex from turbosquid then subd'd it up to 2mil then tried out the remesh.

There's lots of options for guides and such, I didn't touch any of them. This was just default.
>>
>>704669
I should add it took about 30seconds, my PC is nothing special though.
>>
>>704665

What's it like with faces and things like pants or coats.

I'm worried by their own example, how it puts a bump in a flat area.

unacceptable results. unusable.

I downloaded that chess piece from his sketchfab
https://sketchfab.com/3d-models/chess-rook-b7cf2ea41d22496882fcfa811f5f8b4c

and put it through ZRemesher in ZBrush
detect edges, half poly count, adaptive size 50

The areas from your pic are flat in ZBrush, but the top part is way less usable.

Wonder if it was just some simple quick remesh without manually set guides or something with the plugin for that chess piece or if some other options were also used to keep the shape at the top correct.

a closer pic.

Cool. Just as useless for animation as the original zremesh. Now blendlets can delude themselves into
Not remeshing like zbrush cowboys do!

ZRemesher in ZBrush VS Quad Remesher pluggin.

Who win?

Shows you don't understand what these tools are typically used for.
It's usually just used to have better topology to continue working with, most people know it's not supposed to be the final topology and that nothing beats manual retopology currently.

The final goal might be to get usable final topology, but near everyone who works with these tools knows it's not there yet, at least for animated objects, for static objects it's mostly fine.

Maybe in a few years we will have AI retopology or something that produces excellent results.
>>
>>704696
No, I get it. Just like happened with zbrush we will have people trying to pass this shit off as production ready topology.
>>
>>704696
Nah it's still shit for static objects in production.
>>
>>704697
yeah, casual amateurs who probably do this for fun and that's their problem.
If it's good enough for their standards it's good enough for them.
I'm sure if they continue working in this field they will eventually learn the truth. They'd just have to watch a single advanced sculpting vid on youtube to see how it's actually used.
>>
>>704700
[irony] yeah, people will care about the topology of a rock.

If you do something else you probably already have modelled a base mesh to just sculpt details on to then bake those details into the low poly mesh. So you don't really need the remeshing there anyway, maybe just for reducing the polycount to reduce the stress the project puts on your pc while working.
>>
where can i get this addon on CGP? what do i search for on CGP?
>>
>>704700
who in 2019 cares about static polycount? do you guys still use real meshes there? wtf
>>
>>704715
Search for what it's called you fucking brainlet
>>
>>704720
I searched for remesh, nothing came up kid
>>
>>704665
Meh, i made over 50 high>low character models at my studio now using zbrush and i never used zremesh for anything other than dynamesh replacement when my fingers or other shit would get merged together.
I sometimes try, but the result is always so fucking shit half way into it i just start from scratch by hand or match a better existing topo .
I like using zremesh to clean up hard edge panels for sifi designs kolby jukes style though.

Still its nice to see blender getting more love, i use it for retopoflow, but other than that i find it too lackluster to model or UV in, maya or modo only way to go for now. UV tools especially are really shit by default, basic unwrap and fuck off.
>>
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the different poly groups in zbrush (different colored pieces) helps zremesher with finding edges, and to stop spirals from forming between the parts you split up. It's a pretty big help in zbrush when zremeshing. If there isn't an equivalent in blender atm, I doubt it will be as usable.
>>
>>704736
You also got guides you can paint it tries o fallow and paint the zremesh density so you can have more polies around eyes or what ever
But polygroups wont stop spirals, it tries its best to have a gard line going along the loops edge, but right outside and at the edges it will do what it wants
>>
>>704736
yeah without polygroups I really don't see the point in zremesh. sculpting in general without polygroups is a no go for me, once you get used to them there's no going back
>>
>>704736
>>704737

time spent trying to give the algorythm clues to what you are after with polypainting density, polygrouping geo or adding in guide curves could be spent making decent topology by hand.

it's not hard. just slow for your first few models and then anything 'unique' that can't be cheated as below.
after a few models you'll have enough raw good topo that can be sliced apart/inflate/scale/ then project to shrinkwrap and run the relax mesh brush over it (Hold shift to get smooth, click mouse, release shift whilst holding mouse to relax)

Then back into maya to add/remove edge loops and quad draw to stitch the disparate parts of the mesh together.

franken base meshes save time and retopology frustration.

Since when did the 3D industry become overrun by jews?

What the fuck do you want me to do about it
>>
>>704780

I used to buy loads of software that would just stop working after a while. Ipackthat, Silo, Unfold 3d. You can never trust these indies to support it.

>>704801
Remember Softimage? Remember Mixamo? Yeah, you can't trust publicly traded corporations either.

what happened to miximo? I just used it yesterday.

It's mixamo fuse that is bieng killed. Rather unfortunate.
