Hello /3/

Can we have a thread dedicated to the discussion of creating assets, worlds, and avatar in Vrchat?

Here are some official resources:

Why even bother trying to break into this market anyway? Your average user is happy to rip some model off of bowlroll for a quick sleeve conversion or add some crappy shirt texture to a TDA base. Might as well be pissing in the wind.
>>
>>702786
The last two commissions I got for VRChat were furry avatars.
>>
Good. As long as these freaks are contained in their VR playpen they won't do any damage in the real world.
>>
>>702961
How much?
>>
>>703397
Furries pay a lot, I'm a drawfag but I got $60 for a default pose fullbody with flat colors and no background.
>>
>>703518
How long did it take you to finish it? I'd say that for one or even two hours of work that's more of a fair rate than "a lot".
>>
>>703522
I think seven hours. Thanks, anon. It's just twice as much as I was getting before, so I was in honest shock. I was sure a flat color fullbody isn't worth more than $35, maybe it's like this on deviantArt that people are selling their art cheap. I constantly feel pressured to keep practicing fundamentals (/ic/ got me on a right path, but it planted a ton of insecurity on me), so I'm afraid to ask for higher prices.

I always wondered why furry art always had such an atrocious quality. Since that's gonna be the only time I can actually communicate with a furry, would you be so kind to elaborate on this? Is it too hard to model with one hand or perhaps the lack of references plays a crucial role?

1. the wings were an OLD model that was meant to be a TF2 power up.
2. you cant see it clearly in this shot but this face exploits Unity's stencil buffer to even more anime-styled faces, I can explain later how I did that.
3. this hack I did with the legs is not necessary at all, at least for these hips. At the time I modeled this I didn't realize the better method. That being said I plan of making a v2 where I fix this for something that can bend much better and doesn't need segmentation to reduce the ugliness of twisting this joint.
>>
>>708612
I guess the one thing I would say is that the amount of geometry seems really excessive, especially since you're making it clear the model was meant for more cartoony shading from the outset. May I get a closer look at the face?

It is a bit too high res for typical video game operations. Frankly however people in VRChat actually frown upon anything under 20k, (especially this one guy in my discord server that thinks anything under 100k is trash). Optimization is neglected a lot on VRChat.
Anyway as for the face, the short of it is that I can use different materials to cut stuff out in the screen space, think of it as a per-frame blue-taping procedure.
>>
>>708612

this was KINDA explained in post >>708617 albeit it was an oversimplified explanation. so for (you) I will use this screenshot of the Minecraft mod "Better Nether Portals" to visually explain what I did.

basically this uses at least 3 materials.
the first one (the mask as I call it) does not render at all but instead marks pixels in the screen space as a value of '1'.
the second material renders like normal EXCEPT it is only visible in the stenciled region on the screen.
the third material also renders like normal EXCEPT it is not visible anywhere in the stenciled region.
there is also an implied fourth material which does not even interact with the stencil at all, (basically every other material in the game).

pic related's analogy is that the square inside the nether portal would be this first material (mask), the netherworld would be analogous to the second material, and finally, the overworld would be the third material.

going back to my avatar the "netherportal" is basically the shape of the eye holes and mouth, which could be anywhere inside or outside of the head's mesh, it does not matter because the mask ignores the zBuffer.

makes sense right?
>>
>>708764
That's a fucking retarded and convoluted way desu
>>
>>708764
What did you use it for on your model though?
>>
>>708781

>>
>>708780
sounds complicated but in practice, it is actually really simple.
>>
>>708789
>people that look down on low poly models and achieving the same thing is looked down upon
holy shit are these guys fucking serious? thats fucking retarded. no wonder why when you join a lobby it lags a fuckton.
most modern anime games dont even hit 100k tris per character. Theyre just enabling incompetence
>>
>>708827
The early need to decimate really heavy MMD models by people who had no idea what they were doing instilled some maladaptive attitudes into the VRChat culture.
>>
>>708827
and that is not counting the fact that a single character could have something like 200 materials, the draw calls maaaaan....

>fuck MMD avatar users, fo real though

I do trust that you know what you're doing and just doing this to feed yourself.
But i do hope you dont get influenced to half ass shit and do that too.
I dont get why people wont learn how to model. I dont have any artistic talent at all and im able to make models because i practiced.
And if they dont want to model theres lots of decent people who they can email or message to commission a decent model.
This is just sad. The industry getting filled with guys who know "3D"

The problem is that nearly all of the users in VRChat don't know how to use blender at all. Some people do know that optimization is important to reducing lag but often can't do anything about it.

Especially sense they play on underpowered hardware. And have to spend most of their time in the box.

Good description of stencil buffer techniques for folks that haven't heard of it.

We used to implement mirrors this way in game engines--stencil mask the mirror, render the rest of the scene, switch to render only the mirror, mirror the camera through the plane of the mirror and render again.

If you wand to make MMD videos, literally all you need is VRchat and a decent screen recorder like Snagit. There are worlds you can go to where all you do is pick a song from a list, make your avatar stand in a circle, and it automatically syncs with these amazingly detailed animations, though some avatars (particular the humanoid ones) work better than others.

I assume that rigify's armatures work with unity and I know expressions/lipsync need to be visemes but do I have to worry about all the facial bones? is there a way to export the model without them or do I have to make a copy and delete them myself?

What makes you say that?

Is there a listing of what kind of scripts are allowed on maps and avatars? I've been watching videos about drivers and corrective bones in blender and want to do something like that in Unity.

SL has a giant variety it seems in what people will buy...what sort of polygon count should you aim for if youre selling simple models on marketplace? Even if you shoot for stylized and cartoony idk what people expect.
>>
>>731768
They want trendy shit so it's easy to make stuff.
>>
>>731776
does SL have a polygon limit or any general guidelines to follow at least? I mostly will be making stuff I would want, but id like it to have some appeal to others as well

>>731780
Just start with you and don't be a nigger who imports raw daz3d assets at 2mil tris and you'll be fine

I initially almost thought that and the new update was an April Fools' Joke at first.

Same. The Udon stuff looks pretty neat but I'm trying to figure out if shadergraph works with vrchat shaders.

I hope there's a guide for this stuff.

This is trash.
1. polycount is all over the place.
2. most of the shit looks like someone just threw a subsurf-modifier on it.
3. proportions are all over the place.
4. I don't even want to know what the uv maps look like (post them faggot)
5. the guy on your discord who said that shit about ~100k polygons is full of shit and you should tell him to kill himself.
6. kill yourself.

Has anybody found a copy of Shaderforge that works with Unity 2018.4.20f1? All the versions I find just bug out my projects and won't work.

consider the following: furries are hyped up sex freaks who want to see their sex objects with supernormal stimuli in full swing. These are cartoonishly exaggerated models to activate primitive dick brains, not make an artistic statement. Just think of /d/ and realize that sex deviants don't want "normal" shit.

How easy exactly, I'm still at the portfolio building stage and was looking at doing avatar commissions as a way to make some money off of it.
>>

Do you have any socials where you post your art and/or models?

Incredibly easy. My reccomendation is to make a few models and put your gamer name on a badge somewhere on the body so when people see your work they'll know who to contact if they want commissioned stuff. This is already being done and while the badge can be removed, most vrchatters won't know how to remove it and plenty want custom avatars. Also this way you personally don't have to worry about it getting stolen

Is there an easy to make MMD videos small enough to fit in /wsg/'s filesize limit (<6mb)? My converter cut half of the first video I made to stay under the limit.

The new stuff with Avatars 3.0 sounds very promising. Less headaches with eye rigging and visemes
>>
>Make small / big avater
>When sitting, they either sink into the chair or hover above it.
Are there ways around this? I tried an override animation but I'm not sure if I'm using the right bones for it.

>Why even bother trying to break into this market anyway?
Thats why its better move to look for the VTuber/vstreamer market than for VRchatters. At least they're constantly commissioning new outfits for their avatar
>>
>>736500
I'm one of the people who gets paid to make outfits across virtual worlds. Shit is TOO easy.
