I asked someone on the Blender subreddit about replicating the shader for the foam-looking hair and they managed to boil it down into just using the principled bsdf.

>Blendlets having standards

Good one op
>>
>>699761
i don't see 3ds max making mikumikudance models look sexy
zbrush on the other hand
>>
>>699763
That one actually got a daily deviation.
Also that render was in Cinema 4D, but the model was smoothed out in ZBrush
>>
This wouldn't have been impressive in 1998.
GTFO weeb zoomers
>>
>>699761
The reason I'm asking about today's standards is that Cycles has become less nebulous to use, to the point where I'm finding stuff like this from nobodys.

what about
>>
>>699763

Because 3DS Max people are busy making a living off their work while blendlets create shitty waifus and donuts in their spare time.

It doesn't look good even by modern MMD standards, aesthetics-wise at least, though clearly it's more of a skill and taste problem, not technology/software problem.

While not impressive in the least by the modern 3DCG standards, just some 10 years old vidya technology, with Ray-MMD/ikPolish/N3+ C Shader the weakest MMD's link is physics.

These certainly look more "high definition" overall, but the only reason (though it's a really huge one) to bother rendering MMD stuff in Blender/Maya/C4D I see is physics, mainly hair and cloth simulation.

I hope the Japanese are by now moving away from their ancient PMX editor to make MMD models.
>>
>>701798
They have always used Metaseq, Softimage, 3ds Max/Maya, C4D and Blender. PMXE is mostly for rigging and minor editing, though models made entirely in PMXE do exist most likely.
>>
>>701799
Confirm, though from what I've seen not many rig in PMXe anymore, if anybody, due to lack of BDEF4 rigging support (unless you use a plugin yet it's still painful.)
>>
>>700045
Cute face
>>
>>699862
>>700044
Of course they do. They are using MMD, which is now decades old and has not had an update for a long time.
>>
>>701854
So's 3D Movie Maker, but that doesn't mean you can't make great things with it.
Hell people still port every model they can get their hands on to Garry's Mod.
>>
>>701950
That sounds like a tremendous amount of work that could be done easily in something made this last decade.

I legit want to see what Japan can do with Grease pencil. I think they, and the french could do all kinds of magic with it.

>>702666
Not a single studio. It's just a single guy doing it all.

I seriously hope you guys are subscribed to the blender VTuber

Sculpting requires a tablet, right?

I think it's not that it's required, but it is so much easier to do it with tablet than a mouse.
