Is there a way to nicely get rid of these poles?

It will probably work fine with deformers for something simple

Also watch out on that body of the fish, there are some edges and meshes overlapping.

those are the gills, it's just one edge loop kinda folded over another one
do you think it's fine to do it like this? there's no clipping or anything
